- Seven gray metal rectangles create a stacked array of straight lines on a quiet street in New Orleans. These shipping containers once traveled along the Mississippi River. Now stationary, they make up the extraordinary home of Kicker Kalozdi, founder of premium bag company DamnDog, and his wife Anne Kalozdi, who is a biomedical engineer. They designed and built this house made out of shipping containers... despite having had no real experience building a house before!

This is the most functional yet beautiful container home I've seen so far. I would have loved to have seen a floor plan to get a better idea of all the levels. Well done on getting through the experience and achieving such a sanctuary.

Shipping container are fine in certain part of the world but It just not best place to look at..... I would recommend cut it up and only used the main structure. otherwise you just waste a lot of money make it look good...

That would be amazing, wouldn't it? Homes are being renovated into whatever you want it to be. No more just settling on something huge, pre built and that it would cost you thousands and thousands of dollars for 30+ years of your life. Tiny homes, van life and container homes are the future!!!

This home is beautiful, would have loved to see more of it. People watching these videos may be drawing inspiration to build their own container homes, so a tour of the home would have been nice, not only for those of us who are just nosey and want to see all the cool features, but for those who are looking for ideas for their build.

Shipping container companies should just on this, by making modular house units that facilitate joining for housing building, pre-wired, pre-plumbed, etc.. a huge spin off business potential.

You're living in this nice neighborhood with a big open lot near you and one day all of these trucks and a huge crane show up and start stacking six or seven of these huge ugly metal boxes next to your home. And even when the house is complete and the big ugly boxes look nicer, you still have this very industrial looking two story home where there used to be green grass. Maybe that would make you happy but I doubt it made their neighbors happy.

Because it costs way more the due to having to prep and adapt the containers. They still have to build interior perimeter walls for insulation and all the other standard stuff a house has. They save a bit on the exterior cladding, but it looks like shit. It's going to be expensive building to code.

@@willfromthepack3423 Only if you do the bare minimum code and have it looking like shit, maybe. But not if you want something decent. You have to compare equivalent structures with equivalent labor and the containers won't end up cheaper.
@@MotoAtheist It won't be cheaper, but it will be far more structurally sound than traditional construction. I don't think a magnitude 8 earthquake would knock that thing down.
shadowtheimpure lol it’s Louisiana we don’t get earthquakes it’s the flooding ya have to worry about. And when it can raise up to 5-8 feet of rain this could have a problem holding. It is indeed much cheaper to get an elevated home

This is really one of the most intelligent container home designs I think that I have seen and I have seen a lot of them. This is a great design.
Clever that it uses practically the entire lot and the front portion of it is like a patio protected from prying eyes.
I would have placed the AC outside and not on the roof to prevent noise/vibration though.
Walls never get ruined because the use magnets instead of nails 😱😎👍
