- Transformers toy review - unboxing, first impressions and comparisons of the brand new third party Transform Element TE-01 OP Leader (AKA 3PMP Masterpiece G1 Optimus Prime).
We'll be taking a detailed overview of the figure and deciding if it's worth the money or not, as well as doing loads of comparisons with other Masterpiece-styled toys (including TakaraTomy Masterpiece MP-44 Convoy/ Optimus Prime).
PLEASE NOTE - I made a small error at the end, at 43:45 the trailer hitch is on the wrong way round (so the MP-10 trailer would sit further forward)!

If G1 animated look is the thing you want, this is the one to get IMO. It’s much cleaner looking than MP-44. Amazing it’s so much cheaper.

TE-01 OP Leader is the better toy in regards to play value. Whereas I’m always scared MP-44 Optimus Prime is going to break and the paint chips too easily. 3rd party companies usually place more care into their designs.
I have mp-44 and no complaints and while I think it is the better figure(not by much) I can totally see why people love op leader so much
One is very clean with decent posability, while the other is messy with exceptional posability. I prefer MP-44 as well.
@@Levi_52_336 agreed personally I don’t need the extra poseability but I do love the paint finish on Mp-44 I prefer mp 44
TE01 is like 90% of 44 at 1/3 the cost! Do the math!
I prefer MP-44 to TE-01 due to its superior articulation and because I simply prefer the sculpt. Both are definitely amazing figures, and I would recommend TE-01 over MP-44 to most people, but I myself could not live with TE-01 over MP-44.
It’s better to be honest. Yes, you miss out on some accessories, but being a Prime Collector, I only wish to have so many trailers.
@@Levi_52_336 I have a question why did te when making prime didn't include any battle damaged parts and why did takara tomy never fix the mp 44 leg with future molds of the figure
@@despacito4972 Transform Element seems to be more about the bare essentials, and battle damage does not fall under that. Black Convoy, or MP-49, is actually missing a ratchet. Takara basically figured that without it, I'd break less, but now it seems to just make the knees weak.

I’m not sure if you’re aware, but you’ve missed a small step. For truck mode, the smokestacks can actually pull outward and then hinge to the side to be slightly more on the sides of the vehicle.
Hey just to let you know that he does have a butterfly joint as well, you press a button and there you go!
This is definitely the only Optimus Prime figure for me. I do not regret getting it instead of MP-44, especially since I got to buy an MP-10 trailer separately. I have transformed it back and forth several times and the figure has not really suffered from it. It really looks good in both modes and is well built, too. My only issue with it was the short neck which prevented it from looking down with the other head but fortunately, that issue got rectified too with a longer neckpiece.
Finally got myself a copy, and I love him. You're absolutely right about the transformation.
Just bought preowned yesterday. Very amazing build quality with almost perfect accuracy.
A lovely figure, super clean in both modes! The lack of a thigh swivel, with the cut above the knee, kills it for me though.
Got him a few months back for 81$. Worth it is an understatement.
The head is nice. He looks like the compassionate leader we all remember.
Just bought him new for £127.50 I'm so so hyped as I've always wanted a masterpiece figure and finally got one ! Awesome video thank you for your excellent effort 👌🏻

Much better than mp44. It's cheaper, feels better, has diecast, is clean in BOTH modes, just as toon accurate depending on the shot, bigger gun, a way better matric chamber. I just wish te01 had chrome on the grill, gas tanks, smoke stacks, and I would have wanted just an abcrunch. That would bring it from decent articulation to amazing.

I prefer MP-44, (especially the KO with the cleaner backpack) but this is a nice option too

This is one of the cooler Optimus Prime’s out there. Excellent fit. Complicated and fun looking.
TE-01 is a great figure with a good amount of accessories. The lack of a trailer is a bummer though.
Who needs a huge empty rectangular box anyway.
Really fun toy. The legs were such a nice surprise the first time!

You saying you don't study Optimus's bum reminds me of how today, new photos XTB Magnus were revealed and people were arguing about Magnus's bum accuracy. Lol

@@SixoTF A shame that Magnus won't be out anytime soon. Even then I have doubts it'll be of great build quality. Because XTB. LOL
I'm not yet a crazy Masterpiece-type collector or anything, so far I only have the Harambe Primal MP23 that I found indeed very convincing, therefore it's most intriguing and entertaining to watch reviews of the numerous options for Optimus Prime himself. You'd expect initiallly knockOffs to be substantiallly lackluster in terms of quality, but it turns out I've been proven quite wrong today, this TE-01 definitely hold its own against MP10 or MP44 and considering the price gaps it's no small feat. It's about half the price for more than half the quality so all in all it sounds like a very viable option, especially for people who don't really care about the trailer.
Seeing it next to other MasterPiece scale figures makes it look kinda nice indeed although the red plastic does look a bit cheap and not too sturdy somehow but I guess unless I see it in hand I can only imagine it yes.

Just to clarify, I wouldn't say they're knockoffs. Generally knockoffs are direct copies of existing molds or borrow alot of engineering from an existing mold. Third party starts to blur the line of what constitutes a knock off since yes, it is based on the same character, but the engineering and sculpt is completely different. An example is if we compare mp optimus primal with the original toy. They're both based on the same primal design but they're very clearly different toys. You wouldn't call the mp a knockoff of the original just because it's based on the same character right?

TE01 to me is MP44 done right. Animation accurate without being an ugly mess.

I suppose the antennae being separate means you can attach super big ones (assuming they make them) to replicate how OP looks in some Japanese depictions. And then you can combine them with either of the two faces depending on which looks best to you

I absolutely love the fact that we as fans have so many options...I have the OP Leader v1 (twice over; one for robot mode & the other for vehicle) and I can say with absolute certainty, I much prefer OP Leader over the myriad of reviews I’ve seen for MP-44...while 44 looks beautiful from the front in both modes and that paint is exquisite, I’ll take OP any day
For mine TE-01 wins overall. It wins overall with its much cleaner and fun transformation. Display wise MP-44 has a better bot mode. But I think transformation and quality is important to give TE-01 the win. I gave TE -01 88/100 and MP-44 a 87 😁
He has a butterfly joint in his shoulders too.

I believe that you can put the trailer hitch on so it's closer to the cab. That should solve you gap issue with the trailer.
I think that both transformation is hard but te 01 works and I think it tides up better
I would like to see a Transform Element take on Megatron. That shares mp-36 proportions. Nice review there btw.

In the end, I think it has to do with how it is on the display. From what I’ve seen, with your comparison pics, TE looks off compared to the sculpt and finish of the TT and FT bots (who have a more professional fit and finish) I think I’ll stick with MP-44, although TE is a good budget option I guess.

TE Should offer a premium painted version where the whole figure is painted.
Considering how involved the transformation is, I'm not sure that's a really good idea.

Which version is this? Got mine from eBay and it was listed as version 3. The panels were so tight during transformation and I noticed you had relative ease when transforming yours.
Te01 is my favorite prime having mp10 and 44
This isn't that old. Last year I think it was released. I love it. I also got the MP-44 and love that too. I'm selling my Magic Square Optimus Prime, great figure technically but doesn't hold a candle to the look of these 2 beauties.

In this case he does come with a mini screwdriver but I also have a small precision one that is useful for toys and models etc.
If I were in the market for a Masterpiece style Op, this one would be in the running, for sure. The Magic Square MP Op is also a strong contender.
I'm sensing another Masterpiece Masterclass at some point in the future!

@@TheMissKittyStar I think it depends how happy you are with MP-10. For me, I always enjoy seeing new toys even if it's the same character of a toy I already own, so it's hard to say. I definitely think he's worth it though, if you're curious.

I think the guy I bought mine from doopped me. My gun is a different colour and my axe was all scratched up out the box.
The earlier versions did have a gray gun instead of black

the best Prime's Masterpiece is TE-01. the takara tomy's masterpiece leg and foot are terrible and the backpack look's like a "joroba" more clean is the TE-01.
