I think this is my favorite of our new G1 style 2019 OP's
TE-01 has a better looking interior chest matrix compartment that closely resembles the G1 cartoon Prime.
May not be as articulated as MS, but it definitely looks waaaaay better. This will more than likely be the Prime for me.
Agreed, I've chosen to get the Ultra magnus style Magic Square Prime. That particular paint scheme works REALLY well for the MS figure.

McItoshi Yeah it just sucks that the head has to be be transformed but other than that it’s really amazing.
Cartoon accurate bot mode. Truck mode looks like a real vehicle. Better looking than Magic Square. MS still has that outdated MP-10 design with the gorilla arms... I'll get the TE-01.
These arms are just a proportional as MS . None have gorilla arms like MP10.

This is the best prime I’ve ever seen head sculpt is perfect like the cartoon
the mp44 soon to come out has the most accurate head sculpt, this one isn't bad, but I hope they make a new one
I'm personally not a fan of this head. It looks like it's based on the cartoon model used in the early episodes, before the later redesign. If you look at MP 44, you'll see what I mean as it has both.

There were so many quick cuts during that transformation that I felt I was watching a Michael Bay movie.

Been does great reviews generally, but this is one where a little more practice beforehand would have helped avoid all the off-screen transformation steps and cut edits.
I knew it would be bad. He had that thing for a week before posting the review. Can't say i blame him though. That exploding transformation is something else

Just got mine, and wow is it impressive. Heavy, beautiful and clean as heck. I hate to say it, but it's better than MP-44 IMO.
This transformation blew my mind. Very innovative and complicated. It's unusual for a prime transformation because you have to convert the lower body at the same time as the upper, unlike any other prime until now. I have a feeling Takara's will give this a run for it's money next year, but very impressive none the less.
New version come with a "cartoon head" and a MP-10 trailer adapter.
Now, it's a pretty great alternative to MP-44.
*EDIT:* Bought it with no regrets. He's freaking awesome!

@@relicvault1515 Indeed it's much, much cheaper. Especially because no extra trailer. Got mine for 115$US with free shipping. Transformation is a bit baffling because of the garbage manual. But one you figure things out, the "eureka" moments are very fun. TE-01 OP Leader feel incredibly "premium" in hand too.
for me personally I'd say it's better then MP-44 regardless of price.

love the fact they manage to get the 'bed' of truck flat but that transformation looks tedious.

It's been over 30 years since I wanted a transformers toy. Just ordered my TE-01 today!
Just ordered TE-01C, which is the cell shaded version of this. Can’t wait.
Got the reissue of the regular TE-01 on the way soon, which now looks more like an MP44 Optimus with opaque chest windows, along with the MP44 head.
I got this figure. I really recommend it if ur looking for a cartoon accurate bot and alt mode! Transformation isn't as messy as it looks like

te01 is closer to mp44 while ms is like an updated mp10. te maybe more toon accurate but ms will be more enjoyable in the long run because of better articulation and more streamlined transformation engineering.

The figure looks good in robot mode. I love how they got the inner chest's Matrix chamber details correct! I don't think that I have ever seen anyone do that before! The C-clip connection for the Energon ax weapon is so much nicer than some gigantic orange blob covering a closed fist. Everything was going great...until the transformation. The way he falls apart into so much open space and way too many folding panels kind of reminded me of how as a child I would take a hammer to a Rubick's Cube to break it apart so that I could reassemble it in the proper color solved patterns. The chest windows were fairly unremarkable and largely went unnoticed by me in robot mode, however, they look ridiculously over-sized in vehicle mode (especially in comparison to those of MP-10! One positive about the transformation to vehicle mode that I liked was the disassembling and hiding away of the robot mode's waist. A good review and a good look at a decent figure, I will give it that! However, I simply refuse to spend my money on third-party figures!
It's definitely supposed to come with a trailer hitch, I saw it on one of the Chinese reviews. Probably just missing from this review sample.

hey Ben! he does come with a proper fifth wheel attachment the allows the mp trailer to attach level and turn perfectly!

Thanks for the review. I just picked this up on eBay. Although I will keep him in Bot Mode, TE-01 has the best Truck/Cab mode. With Magic Square and MP-10 you see his pelvis in Truck mode which ruins the illusion of being a truck while Transform Element nailed it.
This is what I call a masterpiece!

Thanks for doing these Ben. I think this video helped me decide on going with Magic Square. This looks good, but I like the more simplistic transformation and lack of fake grill on the MS.
I will give this one props for having the most unique Optimus transformation I’ve seen.

Erwin Villanueva I’m pretty ok with that, especially since there was a significant size difference between the robot mode gas tanks and truck gas tank. I want a good animation styled Prime, and it’s been a looooong time since we got a prime who has the same grill in robot and truck mode. But I think they both look good.
@@MikeKaess Yes. The fake grill on TE-01 seems a bit unnecessary, which is a bit of a bummer . I believe if Transform Element engineers added a little bit more effort to it, they could have done it as well. They probably could have made the thighs swivel too. Then this could be the perfect G1 accurate Optimus Prime figure in the market.
I think what they were going for was cartoon accurate bot mode and realistic truck mode but I think it should be cartoon accurate through and through I think it would be more easily designed anyway

My overriding concern is toon accuracy, and this wipes the floor with Magic Square in that respect. I've had mine on order for a while now and apparently the new head sculpt will be given away free to those who purchased the figure (you will need to obtain it through your retailer).
I like this guy a lot (the eyes don't bother me unless I fixate on them). I just hope he is shipped in bot mode so I never have to actually transform him.
I saw a video of a guy who has the final retail release of Transform Element TE-01 Leader Op & the figure does come with a 5th wheel/trailer hitch accessory piece for MP-10's Trailer!!!
The family should be first Ben, so that's totally understandable. Both TE and MS seem like solid figures to me, I like them both for different reasons. There are things I like more about the TE and things I like more about the MS, however, for me by the slightest margin, MS is more for me. Great review as always Ben! Thank you for taking the time.

This figure is very nice, and if you like it, that's great, but as someone who like to animate these figures, the Superior articulation of MS' Prime makes it better in my opinion.

great review as usual one thing i have to disagree with tho no figure should have solid ratchets for the outward movement for the legs as the ratchet teeth limit the stance every figure should have outward friction imho
DjWarpedcore I think ratchets would be great for this figure in the outward hip motion they would just need very fine teeth

I like this more than the Magic Square version and will order him soon enough, very good figure imo super show accurate, i'm re watching the show right now, hope they do a Megatron.
That is a really good looking alternative MS Prime. I hate the legs don't have the ratchets. & The transformation is a bit complicated. But,overall this appears to be a good option to MP-44 for the price.
I saw another review where it sounded like he had ratcheted outward hips. Here's hoping final version has it.

I think the MS looks better in both its modes but this has a more interesting transformation. Might just get both.
This is why I love reviews. I was really up in the air between TE Prime and MS Prime. I do like how MS Prime version is much bulkier, and the articulation is better. However, above all, the transformation for TE Prime is way to complicated for what it is. MS Prime version is simple and intuitive. Its MS Prime for me hands down!
I agree it looks pretty dang close to the G1 cartoon, but just the flat red cab just looks odd in a toy. It needs something to give it a break so it's more pleasing to the eye.
Those eyes are definitely too far apart... But, I don't think it is overly egregious. The issue is due to the width of the nose they sculpted. The nose is far too wide at the top, which pushes the eyes further apart. It's noticeable but not absurd. The lack of Hip rotation and ratchet joints for the outward hip movement is a far worse issue than the eye placement. I'm also not a fan of the Hip skirt pieces, it's an unusual choice for both design and engineering. Between this and the release from MS... I think Magic Square wins, but it is a solid entry.
But sometimes OP has that derpy look in the cartoons! XD

I think mp 10 still better I like it better
There's a lot of the transformation I really like. The crotch splitting and the wheels hidden there, the way the lower legs have everything folded and hidden inside, and how the truck cab side panels are formed and snap around. But all the floating panels weaving under and around other panels with such little clearance worries me. Truck mode is easily the best one, especially with how small they've made the bed.
I'm split, I like the MS bot mode and easier transformation but this truck mode and some of the transformation is exceptional.
Not sure if this was a game of jenga or a toy transformation😬 I think magic square has it beat. Glad I waited for this video. Thanks Ben👍🏾

I was so torn between this and MS. I had both at $90 from different sellers. Went with this one because the seller was fast to respond. I hope i made the right choice. Waiting patiently for him...
I purchased both. Received the MS OP about a week ago and it's pretty good. Waiting on TE this week. Can't wait. Just curious as to how the outward hip joint will be constructed. All but one review has it as a friction joint but there is one that has a ratchet. Here's hoping they went with the ratchet.

Wow, undecided comment section. Magic Square looks good, but TE seems to be more in line with the new MP-44 design (slimer, accurate colors). Also, all that diecast in TE will definitely make it feel higher quality.
TE-01 is excellent(more accurate), the best for me !
MS is good, but not excellent, not a good shape(more big).

mp01, mp10, mp44, ms01... i like this one better... i agree with you ben... he needs ratchets on his thigh to stabilise him.... bot mode : like! truck mode also like! but a bit blurred looking at te transformation sequence, but still like it!
Got it a year later, broke the left thumb off due to way too stiff joints in the fingers , while trying to massage the fist into the "correct position" for the first transformation .

i like this one the most. still not better than mp10, but im in for this.
I want to like this thing but I always struggle with the transformation, mainly the head, pushing it past the tabs and making sure the antennas aren't bending, got some stress marks on them :/
In my opinion, Magic Square has the better bot mode, with Transform Element having the better truck mode, this is why no one should get MP-44, it looks to have a ton of panel lines.

I overall like the look of this one better than the Magic square one, partly because I like his less wide physique, but mostly because I have a big nitpick with what I see inside the MS version's chest, which looks like a 5 on one side and a 2 on the other side. For some reason it distracts me. I see numbers instead of just mechanical details in there. On the other hand, the transformation just looks too complex for me to ever want to bother with it on this one.
I'm off to go watch your Magic Square Prime review now. If his articulation is better and transformation is significantly more fun, I can maybe modify my silly issue with his inner chest details and might just replace my MP-10 with him.
This one doesn't quite cut it as far as being so much better that I'd give up MP-10 for it, and I sure won't be paying $500 for the official version 3.

Really like the vehicle mode of this but the bot mode of MS, the transformation on this reminds me of a more complex toyworld orion, technically impressive but a pain to do more than once.
I don't know which version of MP prime I should get for my birthday they both look good
The trailer has an add on piece you don't seem to have that clips on so it sits right.

why did you cut the part of the video where the both legs have to be bent to flush on the torso, mine is defective or I don't know but its imposible to bend and get flush to form the truck back part, did toy have some issues?
Have the MS version and waiting for the TE version to arrive at my door step. I like the truck mode with TE and do like the fact it has diecast. MS version just a tad too light compared to MP36

I will stick with MP10 but this and MS are nice. I would be very worried about faceplate paint rubbing in this one
The grey add on trailer hitch comes with the full release bro. ;) I guess because yours was without packaging it didn't come with it.
Great as usual Ben, definitely Magic Square for me tho.
This guy has a great looking robot mode, and the truck mode is beautiful.
However that transformation looks like a fiddly mess. Explode the top, explode the bottom, flip around a hundred little panels, put it all back together starting at the bottom.
There is some clever stuff going on there. I like how the legs are done and that the wipers are hidden on panels that flip up so that they aren't on the chest in bot mode.
But that transformation just doesn't look fun.
To each their own. I loooooove the Transformation. You don't get tidy tight modes without some panelly transformation sequences. Well done.

All 3 look siilly past the cab. It's the nature of the transformation since the legs become the back wheels. Itll remain silly until you get into partsforming where the entire figure becomes the cab and you attach the back end.
I think MP44's transformation will also be this messy.
