Godfall is an action role-playing game developed by Counterplay Games and published by Gearbox Publishing. The game was released on PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Windows on November 12, 2020. The game is set in a high fantasy setting, split into the realms of Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Spirit, where players take the role of one of the last exalted Knight's Order to prevent a major apocalyptic event. The player has 5 weapon classes to select from, based on which of their armor sets, Valorplates, they equip. In this video DreamcastGuy gives his brutally honest thoughts on Godfall in a review style format while talking over gameplay, showing the combat, and talking about the grindy awful story. These weapon classes include the longsword, dual blades, polearm, two handed war hammer and the two handed great sword. Additional Valorplates and Augments can be equipped to customize how this character class plays out. It supports single player and up to three players in "drop-in drop-out" cooperative mode. The game is described as a "looter-slasher" being based on the loot shooter concept of completing missions and gaining better loot for further quests, the focus of the combat is on melee attacks rather than ranged ones. - เกม

Yeah man I get you didn't like it but I think this game just isn't for you. Idk if you played in easy or normal but the fact that you didn't even say says a lot about your mindset going into the game. Which is fair. No harm no foul. But If this isn't a type of game you're into you should be a bit more up front about it. For instance I just don't like fps games. They bore me to tears. If I was doing a review on one I'd say so up front. I've been looking at other videos and I know for a fact there's more depth to the game than you're letting on. Seems to be an improved devil may cry 5, with the addition of armor sets and more than 2 environments.

It shouldve been free... destiny 2 is free now, warframe is free and has tons of content. Theres like nothing that can differentiate this game from those 2, minus maybe graphics.

I think you can switch your skills at any point in the game so he probably played it normally and then just switched his skills the way he described in this video.
he even says he fell sleep of how easy it was. Dude probably didn't even discover the game has a difficulty slider because hard is pretty damn hard and forces you to use the deep gameplay mechanics. This is why games shouldn't have difficulty slidder, because after people play on normal or easy, breeze the game button mashing and after say it's boring. Same thing happened to avengers. But again this is a niche game, not gonna like it if its not your style obviously. Is like critizizing a vs fighting game because it's boring bc u only played single player campaign when really its not your style of game that's all

To be honest, they're two very different games.
Sure they're FPS titles. But they focus on other stuff to the point where they're not really comparable.
It would be like comparing Dark Souls to Dragons Dogma. They're very similar, probably even more similar than 76 and BF1. But they're both different enough experiences that they're not really comparable.

Got the game on pc and having a blast with it. The combat, on a higher difficulty is tough and not as easy as he claims it to be. I couldn't care less on the story part since the main story is really just a gateway and a big tutorial for the endgame.
If you are into grind ala Warframe and combat ala god of war (2018), grab the game or at least get a second opinion from someone who has spend couple more hours with the game after beating the "tutorial".
I always laugh when people complain about difficulty, but forget about adjusting difficulty settings. They are there for more than achievements. Lol
He did say he completed it not just doing the tutorial. But remember everyone has their own opinions dislikes likes and preferences, hes just giving his opinion. It's up to each individual to make up their own minds
The "tutorial" is the game. The endgame grinding is a waste of time for nothing so you can go back and beat the same 3 bosses over and over and over again. Give it another few hours and Im sure youll come to the same conclusion. If not, then enjoy. I guess it doesnt take much to entertain you.
Mindless grind games can be fun but.. this or demon's souls.. no question for me personally

Really? I have it on pc. It's pretty entertaining. I think if you sink some time in it you get some cool gear unlock some cool skills.
It's like a 3rd person Diablo. Hack n slash n loot. The story is about as generic as Diablo and the combat is deeper than Diablo. So why does Diablo get acclaim and this gets rediculed?

I think he just hates on it because it's the popular game to hate on atm. Easy views and so on. This game is indeed very entertaining imo. the combat feels very good and responsive, and it definitely doesn't lack challenge when playing on hard mode. I've died countless times in my 17 hours of playtime. And failed more missions than i'd like to admit, lol. And i've played through most of the games that are considered difficult by mainstream gamers (dark souls, bloodborne, sekiro, doom eternal (on nightmare mode), etc). I think godfall doesn't lack challenge at all. But i think the game was actually designed to be played on the hard mode. The combat gets way more depth compared to the other difficulty settings.
Right and he says spiderman miles morales pushes you, I beat both spiderman games on hard without even upgrading at all its way to easy lol but I believe its a good game because of the experience being spiderman, its a really cool experience.

it was the same thing with mass effect andromeda. "the worst game ever"... i actually really liked that game. Yes it had facial animation issues but that does not bother me. the gameplay was fun. for Godfall, i dont care about the story. i care about loot and leveling and fun gameplay. seems like this game has all that honestly.
Just by watching the footage I’d think it was pretty good.. OG God of War-ish.. But DCG isn’t a fan of that so perhaps this is why!?

@@jmroz311 Mass Effect Andromeda is aggressively average compared to the trilogy. Is the game play fun? Sure, but that is not what Mass Effect was about. The gameplay in Masd Effect 1 was ASS, but that didn't matter because everything else was so compelling.

The gameplay is awesome. These type of "mindless" fun games are not for everyone. The core gameplay loop is just so good that you keep playing, even when the story around it is sh*t. Also min/maxing your build is not for everyone, but i surely enjoy it. Godfall is an 8/10 for me. Has huge potential to be expanded upon in my eyes. It's sad the mainstream game press shat all over this game. When it really didn't deserve it. I feel kind of bad for the devs. They made a good game for the audience they were targetting. And it just get's hated on
Its like dynasty warriors on the outside the game might be boring to others but if it appeals to you it's all that matters
It perfected almost everything it set out to. Not every game needs an amazing story or whatever. The only stupid thing about this game is that it's a looter RPG...where you can't find OR mix and match armour... so dumb. This aspect needs to be incorporated later. Really like the game though.
a ton of people love Fallout 76 too. nothing wrong with it. Reviewers are BS mostly and they all stick to the trends.

Hi Dreamcast Guy. I haven't owned a gaming console since Xbox 360 and I want to buy either the PS5 or the Xbox Series X. I don't mind waiting a few months even to 2021 to get one. I only want ONE but don't know which to get. The only type of games I like are Grand Theft Auto style and I do like the Halo games but I get bored of Halo fast. I'm not into spider man or sports or COD or Battlefield or even online gaming. I like single player experiences and I'm not a "hardcore gamer", I play maybe once a week, 2 hours at most that week. How do I know which console would be best for someone like me? Can you do a comparison video of the two that compare/contrasts both consoles exclusive titles that are out and are coming out?

Because it’s not single player the campaign and ending both are multiplayer the thing is that it does not have match making
It probably also keeps the actual game size down. Its only 22ish GB vs other games that are pushing 100 these days.
It's a Gearbox game that's not Borderlands, in case you're wondering why it sucks so much.
Godfall was not developed by Gearbox. Also the last two Borderlands games were average at best.

@@alephnull423 idk. I've enjoyed godfall way more than i did borderlands 3 so far. Borderlands 3 gets a 5/10 for me. Would have been a 6/10 if it didn't have all the bugs and performance issues. Godfall i'd give an 8/10 based on 17 hours of gameplay so far.

Looks like it too. Ancient Mythical fantasy aesthetic, but with a sleek and mechanical sci-fi overtone. At least this one has more to the color palette than gold-sepia everything.
That’s because gods of Egypt is literally the backbone plot to the ancient Egyptian religion and this takes inspiration from it same as many later beliefs

This game is some of the most fun i've had in gaming this year. I can't decide between doom eternal and godfall. Both have amazing combat with very big learning curve. Both games obviously need to be played on the hardest difficulty to actually get challenged. I assume you played godfall on normal, where the combat is basically a joke. My experience is on pc, no clue how it is on console.

But I've had occasions when someone's review has been there niggling at the back of my mind when trying to enjoy or form my own opinion. Whether it was positive or negative. So you didn’t try the multiplayer component? What’s the end game content like? Regardless whether you felt like you needed to use the advanced mechanics, how was making builds?
These are some important questions for the type of game this but I felt weren’t answered. Thus making this feel like an incomplete review
I was interested in this game before launch but now I’m glad I didn’t waste my money on it.
Watch some reviews from youtubers that are a fan of he hack&slash genre. Their oppinnion seems to be very different to the mainstream gamers. I'm a big fan of hack&slash and loot games in general. I think godfall is awesome fun.
I was pretty excited about this game, then I played it and found out it was terrible. Yet I have multiple friends that act like the game is good. smh

Better writing could have salvaged at least something. I like to use Divinity II (note: not Original Sin 2) as an example, it's an ARPG with massive flaws and misguided design choices, and I can never bother to replay it, but recalling the atmosphere and writing has made memories of playing it for the first time sweet.
Im not defending the game, but this honestly doesn't deserve a 3 more likes 6 IMO, there is some fun to have coop

This really seems like somebody who prefers story focused games picked up an action RPG. Didnt even mention the endgame, or buildcrafting. I recommend aztecross gaming's video on godfall if you want a better idea of what this game has to offer. Seems like this guy judged toe game based on what he wants, as opposed to what it was designed to be

Finished Miles Morales. Getting Demon Souls next. If i finish that and there's nothing new out, I'll check this game out after that. Hope it's worth it.
I really feel bad for the developer of this game, this game is gorgeous and doesn't have microtransaction but the simple gameplay and lackluster storyline just make it uninteresting.
Not every game studio has geniuses like Miyazaki, kamiya or even cory balrog to steer game development into the right path

I do love how this game looks/plays but personally, I'm going to pick up this game when it comes to Xbox Series X in 2021. Maybe it'll be a bit more improved by then.
Think about it before purchasing, keep in mind that you need to be connected even if you want to play solo. And if your still interested get on a deep sale imo at least for 15 to 20 and you'll see that for that price the game can be enjoyable for what it tries to do and theres nothing afterwards. Graphically i'll admit it looks preatty good but thats not why i come to play a game in the first place, because i go to "play it" not to "watch it" this game was more of a show case in what (at least on consoles) the PS5 could do. But if it ever releases on XBox (i'm preatty sure it will one day) think about it because trust me when you play it you'll realize is not that big of a deal unless, like i said before, you got it on a deep price drop

You are easily one of my favorite TH-camrs and I absolutely trust you to be honest. I remember thinking that this game looked like crap even when it was announced. Pretty, yes, but you could almost get that there was no substance to it. I think this one will be forgotten pretty quickly.

And yeah, year ago they told that there will be 5 realms and they release only 3. They told that all valorplates will be unique but this is not true, all supers looks the same. Looks like game should be a gr8 game but they made it in a hurry.
Fun fact the game studio of this game released a game in 2016 the game die out immediately at the first day since the release so they forced to make it free to play at 2017 but still.. and they gonna shutdown the server for the game for ever at the end of this year

people dont play this kind of game wont understand the fun. this game is like monster hunter/soul type. very under cooked but it has some potential. at least we have something new. or you can play watchdog legion, where you basically beat the game by only watch the trailer.

It always makes me laugh when the Dreamcast guy says “this game is such a frickin joke”. There’s no bigger joke on TH-cam than the Dreamcast guy.

We all knew this game was gonna flop from the start. Nothing new here.
I enjoy the the combat and the loot grind. The difficulty spikes is there and can make this game quite challenging. Otherwise it is a shallow game.
But dont forget that amazing graphics with raytracing? They hope that would sell also it being a launch ps5 title.
I think this game is meant for kids and early teenagers who just want to muss buttons
You fell asleep playing, probably because you've been up 48+hours strait trying to review these games TBH lol. Just happened to be a button mashing borefest of a game.
This game is basically the equivalent of the Order 1886 for PS4. They wanted something that looked extremely pretty...but didn’t really focus much on the actually gameplay. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had fun playing this...but I’d say wait for a price drop before you decide to jump in. I don’t think this game is 3/10 bad...I’d say at this point I’d give it a solid 6.

godfall is not a bad game at all. its a "loot grind game" and thats what it is. nothing more nothing less

I have Demons Souls on the PS3. You can get Miles Morales on the PS4 even if you don't wanna play it. Are there _any_ PS5 exclusives besides a PS3 port, a game you can get on PS4, or Godfall?
