Preach! Didn’t even now about Dark Souls when I got into this back in 2013. It still feels the most original and experimental in my humble opinion.

My first time watching game review by you with a 10/10. Surprised me and will end up picking it up!
Bro Dark Souls had some bonfires that were FAR AWAY that made you have to through a lot just to try the boss again. (ie, Seath, Ornstein and Smog, Gwnn) What are you talking about? Demon's Souls also has some short cuts you can open up. C'mon man. smdh I'm sick of people criticizing Demon's Souls for the same things that are in Dark Souls that they praise all the time.
You can run to every boss in demons souls in a minute. There is how many shortcuts and once you fight all the enemies for the first time and get to the boss you can easily run past all of them back to the boss. Idk what this dude is talking about in the review. The only boss that kind of sucks running to if you die is penetrator since you have the knights on the stairs that can absolutely punish you if you roll wrong. They cornered me and ganked me in the orginal game

You can't fault him for that tho, not everyone knows that there's shortcuts to get to certain areas faster, he even says in the video googling things is someone you should do, but it probably didn't occur to him that there are shortcuts. Cut him some slack

The diffculty is fun and rewarding. But to me the best element about FromSoft games are the world and level designs. This, along with the way Miyazaki wants the players to experience the story through the "less is more" approach. Fun fact: When Miyazaki was a kid, his family was poor. He loved Manga. So when ever he wanted to read them, he went to the community library to borrow them. However, The Manga, was in English, which he did not understand. So he just enjoyed looking at the illustrations and fantasizing the story. According to himself, that's something he has taking with him to FromSoft games. He wants players to experience the story through the environments.
That's an interesting story, my first one of his was Sekiro and I really liked the style of story telling in that game

This whole Soulsbourne genre looks interesting! Granted I do have a few of them Demons Souls(PS3), Bloodborne and Salt & Sanctuary I haven’t spent as much time with them as I should.. They sort of remind me of let’s say a “more realistic” version of the old Ghosts n Goblins series..
Wow. That's so cool. I finally got a ps5 and this will be my very first time playing a Souls game. I don't care how hard this game is supposed to be. The visuals and gameplay look amazing to say the least. I will endure the punishment like a man!!!!!
IMO this is the only true next gen release on either console. The Xbox is so disappointing in terms of games releases.
They got game pass for right now and they’ll have there heavy hitters when they are ready. AC Valhalla is also on game pass so that’s a good get.

Bang on review (from what I’ve played so far anyway). Great work. From someone who never played the original, I am adoring this game. I agree about the checkpoints, but those aside, every minute is fun.
If you’re intimidated by the difficulty and learning curve, don’t be. This is worthwhile.

I love the game so far. Never played the PS3 version. I've died more times than I care to admit in the first level of the game on my way to phalanx but now after running through it about five or six times soul farming it's a lot easier. Even the first time I thought the red-eyed Knight it killed me about three or four times before I changed up my strategy. I kept trying to overpower it like I've been doing the blue-eyed knights but that ended up being the wrong strategy turns out blocking and strafing it was so much easier. I'm perfectly fine with how much I've died in this game so far. Admittedly I've only fought phalanx and the tower night but I was able to eat beat both on my first try. The environmental enemies on the other hand wrecked me more times than you can imagine.
Quick hint to new players who read this . The two blue-eyed knights outside the tower Knight arena can be farmed for high-level grasses pretty easily once you beat the tower Knight

From what I remember, the checkpoint system isn't that big of a deal. Most of the time, the hardest bosses in the game have short cuts you can find to link back to the bonfire and the bosses who don't were usually pretty easy.
What I was about to say, there’s only really a handful of exceptions but most bosses have short cuts built in to the area
No the fuck there isn’t there’s exactly 4 checkpoints on every map and to get between them is a complete pain in the ass every time. From just makes a bunch of tiny ass rooms connected by a bunch of tiny ass hallways. Then spams enemies and calls it a day. This game has some of the worst level design I’ve ever seen in a game.

When the boss feels that far away you usually missed a shortcut tbh
lol facts, taking that long to get back to a boss means you're to blame. There's shortcuts all over the place in Demon's Souls. Obvious and fully intentional ones like opening a door that loops back to the start of the area.

How is demons souls?
How's the PS5? I got mine in June so I've had it about 3 months, and I have absolutely *LOVED* every second of it! Literally every singke game I play now is at 60fps and it's phenomenal. I can play Control, Demon's Souls, Tbe Last of Us 2, Spider-Man (and MM), Rift Apart, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Zero Dawn, Cyberpunk, Jedi Fallen Order, RE8...sooo many games at 60fps, and they all run at well above 1080p, many in 4k. Such a fantastic console

This is my first souls like game aside from dying 50 times on bloodbourne and not understanding it at all. I am 4 bosses in and this is probably my favorite game I’ve ever played, surpassing God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn. This is just incredible. The graphics, sound effects, strategy, music are all perfect to me. I have a lot to go in this game and I love it all from the first level to where I’m at now. I don’t know if I would have enjoyed the older clunkier version as much, but I really don’t need to worry about that now.
Nice! This will be my first Souls game as well. I played Bloodborne but traded it in at GameStop because I got so frustrated from dying so much. But I will not give up on this game. It looks amazing!
I honestly think this is the most next gen looking game out there right now. I was blown away by the graphics it looks incredible and I don't know exactly how to explain it but the controller feedback is amazing. It makes me very excited for the future of games.
Miles Morales, Ghost Of Tsushima are both next gen looking games

especially since you had to fight the game engine and network also (with lags, glitches, bugs and such hahaha like the honest trailer said they are simply unintentional gameplay features). man my training with things such as phantom range and such will make me a boss on this game if they've sorted all the crap with that stuff.
Game wasn't that glitchy. Maybe you played it day 1. Felt no different than the others aside from a few mechanics. Online worked fine too. Only game I'll get plus for. If it wasn't for ps3 having free online I would never know how essential the coop is. Only way to beat certain bosses unless you insanely good or well built.
I might say Dark Souls was harder. Not sure. A few bosses were pretty hard.
@@92mkd the original played kind of sluggishly in a way idk how to explain it. The new one plays so smoothly idk if i can ever go back to the original now the remake is just so clean and so much more fun from a gameplay aspect and the graphics are phenomenal.

I love Demon's Souls so much, for all the reasons you mentioned. I love how brilliant it is and with so many layers of depth and technique and customization and they're just like "here, figure it out, and make it work for you."

Doing my first playthrough right now. Visually stunning, great gameplay, fantastic sound, and a good hard challenge. Didn't have a PS4, so I bought all the best PS4 games to play as well, and it's certainly nice that most are selling between $10 and $25 this month.
Trust me it will be worth it for you. I would recommend you play ratchet clank on ps4. It was one of the best exclusives on the system but it is sometimes forgotten. I absolutely love jump and runs and throughly enjoyed it.
Please get some good exclusives. If you like Japanese games, I would highly recommend 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. 13 Sentinels was made by VanillaWare and because of that, the game is visually stunning. It is truly an under appreciated PS4 exclusive. It also has a great story and came out this year in the West. It's sad that the game isn't that popular, especially considering how bloody good it is. I would even attempt to call it a masterpiece and therefore, it is probably my favourite game of the entire generation.
Another game I would recommend to get is Persona 5. However, most people know about it anyway.

@@jamessha2107 It's the best gameplay wise, but it's still very uninspired. I felt as though the devs said "we should just copy and paste what made Dark Soul's good". That's the problem with it.
It's crazy how much this looks like Bloodborne; or rather, Bloodborne looks like this. Bloodborne is relentless, and exhausting. Not completed it yet, I'm stuck just after Central Yarnham. Looking forward to try this also on PS5 (hoping to get one next week) - nice video!
When they made Bloodborne the specified they tried to recapture the feeling/essence of the Tower of Latria from Demon's Souls, its one of the main reasons why so many fans of the original DeS were hyped for Bloodborne 🤔
Also there was a direct reference to DeS in the original Bloodborne alpha, found by a japanese player, as Father Gascoigne says "Umbasa", which might imply Bb and DeS were initially in the same universe. Personally I consider BB as a DeS sequel but that's just me 😌

Its interesting you bring up the idea of exhaustion. I have played through all the Souls games, all around 60 hours or so. I have always found all of them to be exhausting by the time I have finished them all.

I don't think the big distance between checkpoints makes the game worse. I would argue it makes it better, because you have a second chance to get your stuff back if you can return without dying again. This can make things *terrifying* at times, but it's super satisfying when you succeed. I played this on the PS3 last year and I had a blast with it (although it sucks that the servers were offline), but I've yet to play the Dark Souls games, Code Vein, The Surge 1 & 2... all of which are still in my back catalogue of games I need to get to, hence I'm in no rush to play this again.
All the bosses have shortcuts to them and you can run to each boss in 1 minute and run past every enemies. Idk what your talking about in your review.
Yeah I use that method with many games lol. Avoid all conflict and sprint to the fight you keep dying too.

I never understood how people break things when getting mad at a game. Why break something that costs so much? It's just a game.
When I originally played this on ps3 I threw my controller(and it broke) after grinding in 4-1 for hours getting loads of souls only to die once then accidently die again. That's so rage inducing. Hours down the drain.

But...is it harder than Sister Friede and Midir? I don't think so ;-) But I love the artstyle of Demon's Souls. I like the from software version over this every day. Yes it looks good but in the end it's only a clone from another company.
I purchased so many games this past Christmas that I decided to wait for this. It's a good game to get during the gaming drought that happens every year around this time. I mean, we (fiancee and I) picked up both the Xbox Series X and PS5 *physical. We snagged Watchdog's Legion (Series X), Call of Duty Cold War (Series X), Cyberpunk 2077 (Series X), Assassin's Creed Valhalla (PS5), Sackboy's Adventures (PS5), and Cyberpunk 2077 (PS5). This doesn't include the PS4 games we grabbed either.
I figured that I already played through the original Demon Souls (PS3) many times that I could wait. Well...I've waited long enough and tomorrow I'm picking it up. This game for some reason has been eating at me for weeks..."Buy me, buy me, buy me, buy me!" I cannot wait any longer it's time for some Demon Souls and it better be as good as it was on the PS3! ;)

Trial and error is how you learn something without direction. Not necessarily memorization. You can memorize something using trial and error, but you can also memorize something by reading a guide, or watching a video. Trial and error can also be how you become more talented, practiced, aka "get gud."

Just some feedback. Your audio balance is a little to the left I think. I checked with other videos, and tested my headphones on other devices, but it seems to be on your videos only. Love the video, my ps5 is only coming on the 18th.... of December.... if it comes at all....

Ok the whole having to go back to the boss after it killing you and having take 20 minutes to get back to the boss really turned me off this game.
coming from a demons souls player, he's actually really wrong here. theres only really two or so bosses where that is a problem, maneaters and penetrator. all other bosses can basically be ran to in a matter of seconds (in the case of phalanx, armor spider, flamelurker and adjudicator{if you know the shortcut wink wink}) or at most a minute or two. all the arch demons are literally just a loading screen away and the player is even awarded a couple of easy bosses such as king allant, maiden astraea and fools idol. this game has been called the easiest of the souls/borne games (an opinion I slightly agree with). most of the bosses have shortcuts anyway, so dont be afraid to give this game a try.

This game is just hard to be hard and I hate that. Dark souls 3 and bloodborne are the best souls games for me, but I can see why others love the earlier ones
At first this game was kind of underwhelming but now I'm on my third play through and it looks awesome, I could just use photo mode for hours to find new things. If you use photo mode to zoom in on the particle effects in one area they are actually little flies 😳

this review makes it feel like you are not getting the "brutally" honest opinion
The brutally honest opinion would be that they should have updated the AI even though it's still okay, some of the visual changes suck, they shouldn't have been afraid to do more balancing, they should have changed the Dragon God fight, and games should still be $60. My rating is 9/10 I think it is the best game this year followed by FF7, then GoT.

Arch stones, not bonfires.. and that's why demon souls is my favorite, because it was so punishing.. u fuck up, it's not just back to the last bonfire mid level check point.. it's all the way back to the beginning of the level.. and in my opinion especially with the beautiful remake, the game is actually the most balanced souls game I've played yet...
Demon souls is the goat of hard games. Especially with the mechanic of every time you die the game gets harder.
Yeah, I agree that the games looks and plays awesome and it is a faithful remake(every character is where they were)i even remembered from when i played it on ps3 😎👍 but I can see someone new to the game get frustrated and give up? My advice is...don't, there is alot to love and enjoy but it may take you getting used to dying and learning. You do feel quite the badass when you learn how to fight the enemies and where they are, cuz you pretty much own them...until the next level haha. This game is perfect the way it is, you have to adapt to it, not it to you to enjoy it and you will feel accomplished when you finally beat that section or enemy or boss 😊👍👏 thanks for this review gc guy, I expected a 9.5 because of that negative you said(as I have experienced that) but it really is just part if the adventure aspect and doesn't take away from the game, causes you to sharpen your skill(iron sharpens iron 😊)
I don't like hard games but it isn't because I don't enjoy a challenge. I find most games have cheesy mechanics that can either benefit you or hurt you. One example I can recall is Horizon Zero Dawn having these explosive barrels around one of the big boss battlefields but nothing I did to the barrels damaged the enemy, so it seemed like they were only there to hurt me even though they were placed in a way that suggested it was part of the technique to defeat the boss. Basically, I like hard but not cheesy hard. Give me difficulty but don't give me confusing, glitches, or no-win fights.

Yeah he completely missed there are shortcuts and ways to run past enemies. He made that experience harder than it ever needed to be. Demon's souls is honestly the easiest souls game made.
Still weird that the biggest game for this next gen launch is a remake of a game from 2 generations ago.
The game was ahead if it's time when it comes to game play. Plus it's refreshing for a game not to hold your hand.

It's so true. The game is still challenging but the more responsive controls with the higher framerates really makes it easier on the player. Switch to "cinematic" mode and the 30fps feels unplayable. Feels like a slideshow in comparison.
And yes, I haven't played this since the year it came out and the bonfires are few and far between lol. Dying can be pretty punishing

Is anyone else having trouble with demon souls starting it up? Today when I press play it doesn’t load up the game it’s just on the riel screen saying demon souls but my console doesn’t freeze the game isn’t loading up tho
I absolutely LOVE this! I'm planning on possibly buying a PS5 by tax time and Demon's Souls is straight up the first game I'm buying(hell, I may even buy the game before I buy a PS5 just so I have it)!

@@oneandonlyjack it was awesome. The graphics are unbelievable. I would spend a lot of time just looking around at everything including the bosses. The game itself is really fun. It was rather easy compared to the rest of From Soft’s games, but a few areas and bosses were pretty rage inducing. Overall it’s really good.

Dont Google. Just use your head and try and figure it out. I'll give a tip. Make use of ranged like bows and magick. You can also break obstacles with them. There you have all you need. Oh. Make sure you play onlineq

Demon's Souls Remake so far has honestly been really fun. I've played all of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, and I have to say that Demon's Souls Remake is really fun. I was never able to play the original one because I discovered Demon's Souls was a thing only 2 years ago, but once I heard of the remake only a few months ago I was dead set on getting PS5, and this game does not dissappoint. Yes the game is difficult, yes I'll get mad, yes there is basically next to nothing different other than a few minor improvements, but the game is amazing. The graphics are some of the best I have ever seen, I have surprisingly came across no bugs or glitches yet, and I am having loads of fun with this game. For anyone who is a souls fan I recommend this game, especially if you haven't played Demon's Souls before. Yes you could just get a PS3 and buy the original for like $15, but it would be nice to give this a try. Also there is a possibility that we could get DLC for the 6th Archstone, so that would be another reason to get this game. Although that is a possibility and not guaranteed.

The fact that I know I will die many multiple times at a boss level and need to spend 20 mins to go back and get killed again by that boss... over and over again, means I probably won't play this game, which bums me out cause I love the souls game aesthetic.
Couple years I'll pick it up for $20 and have a bash, but I ain't paying top dollar to get shafted and beat down by a game.

Enjoy quite possibly the worst game I’ve ever played.
@@Ironlegend7 it's not the worst game, but easily the HARDEST game I've ever played. So hard, that's it just not fun to play it. A friend let me play their copy and after a hour of torture I finally reach the titan boss. Only to die in seconds, I repeat SECONDS, and go all the way back to the beginning. Yeah, you can miss me with that!

@@fotografick that would definitely be faster. Blacks are so much blacker in 8k, and the haptic feedback of the Dualsense could work for the echo location

Most soulsborne fans havent played og demon souls. And for those who did the nostalgia is going to make it even sweeter. You are of a rare opinion but vote on metacritic and we will see where score falls.
@@filippetrovic845 like I said, I think the game is great and yes a lot of people haven’t played the game but I still just don’t think the game should get a 10/10 when everyone knows like all other souls games have it has quite a few bull shit areas that just aren’t good and some bad bosses at times to and those things make the game like a solid 8 or 9 for me because the pros definitely out way the cons but I just don’t think the game should have a perfect score since hell sekiro didn’t even get a perfect score for most people and that games was great with less negatives then this game so I just won’t understand the 10/10 but overall I think the game is great and over on metacritic right now I can for the most part agree with the score of 91 because it’s still amazing but it has its flaws every so offten but it is a good bit of nostalgia for me
Dying and be punish by it was all the fun back then in 2009. I don't see how the true essence of the Souls can feel like frustation. That you had to get to the boss again if he kills you, was always part of the fun. The Archstones works perfectly.
Does seem kinda lame that you can’t really just run past everything if you want in this game. I’ve only just started but it seems impossible to run past stuff so far.
@@donmcron3334 It's really easy, as there are many short-cuts. There's only one area where it's hard to run past stuff and that is probably the poison swamps in the valley (can't remember the name of the Archstone).

NGL i am not good at these games but i loved Bloodborne despite not being good at all with it and i really want to get this remake seriously it looks absolutely gorgeous Blupoint Games look like they have done an AMAZING job here so even though i am no where near good enough to beat this i'm gonna get this and Spider Man when i manage to get hold of a PS5 after the 19th November (UK here)
quick tip:
if you don't want to do a long run back, exit the game the second you get killed by the boss.
when you restart the game, it will spawn you right outside the boss area.
