I just bought the game for the ps5 and looks amazing! I’m actually enjoying the game 8 hours in and my friends on co op are liking it too!

I tried the challenger edition and this game is gorgeous. The mechanics are way better than most game and so much smoother than god of war. I’m debating whether to buy lol

Yeah thanks for this review, Totally what I was looking for. As a warframe player, another flawed but hugely enjoyable looter shooter/slasher, I was intreagued by this now that it has come to PS4.
Yes I think it's something that a lot of people are looking for. I'm rooting for the game to keep improving and I think after another big update or 2 it's going to be in a very good place.
To me Godfall is kind of interesting as well I recently got my PS five back in February 2021, ever since then I never have played any PS five games.
I’ve been playing all my previous download games from the PS4 and I’ve been storing them on an external hard drive that carries 5TB, I never had that the decision of making exactly which PS five game I wanted to play because when I got my PS five there were only certain titles that were available for the console itself but now since it’s been a while a lot of games are available for the PS five including upgrades from the PS4 versions.
So since God fall right now at the moment is 40% off I decided to buy it and when I did buy it it was a PS4 version I got the option to download the free upgrade for PS five do so I downloaded the PS five version and I got to say to me at the moment it feels great yeah there is repetitive combat but if you’re someone who likes To grind out and collect materials, loot pretty much everything and obtaining every trophy basically being a Trophy Hunter then give Godfall a try but that’s my opinion.
Also gearbox made Godfall to test players to see how they would like a melee combat only since they have been getting a lot of feedback from fans saying to add melee weapons in borderlands so instead they did in Godfall now they’re taking that experience and adding it to Wonderlands combining melee from Godfall with Borderlands loot shooter. That’s my guess.

I just grabbed it off psn. Been curious about since it came out. I couldn't justify buying the $70 version on BB but psn had it at $34 so I could justify that in my head

Tried a bit through getting it free on Epic. Even though it look sgreat the controls are kinda clunky. Not as fluid as I would like. Had a "For Honor" feel. Wish there was a way to holster your weapon and super sprint, but it sorta left up to automation. I see how it can have fun gameplay loop but personally just rather just pick up Warframe or Destiny 2 again instead. Both are F2P already and offer what seems like an endless upgrade loop with several classes to choose from.
I keep having people mention Warframe, I'll have to try it out sometime. I do wish they had made it so you could cancel actions in Godfall which I think would have made it feel a little more fluid, but I guess it was a deliberate design choice. I'm hoping at some point they come out with another expansion that adds in a few more gameplay styles like raids and other things like that to mix it up.
@@ZslayerDre Warframe is great its just a massive grind and a very convoluted progression. Still a staggering amount of content that is all for free.
The game is a bit wash, rinse, and repeat. However, the game itself is what it is, a slasher looter game. If I get an hour of play time per dollar spent then it is money well spent.
Great review! I think I'm going to wait a little longer hopefully they get the bugs worked out.
I think the upcoming Lightbringer update will fix a lot and it'll add in matchmaking which will make the online experience much better.
Just bought this on PS4 on PSN while I was at work tonight, should be downloaded the time I get home. I've been wanting to check it out for some time but I was a bit skeptical because of certain reviews but I figured I'd give it a go. Looks like it's legit.

Thank you, if you get the version that comes with the first DLC there is a decent amount of content and then there is a considerable amount of grinding that can be done once you hit the endgame (although you will be doing a lot of the same content multiple times). They just put out a tweet saying there is more to come so maybe wait a few weeks before the next big update before buying that way you'll give yourself time to level and there should be a very good amount of content after that next content drop. But no idea when that will be.
Dude, the game is rumored to be in December's free PS Plus games... so grab it there and have fun with it for free... I think it's really worth it but I'm a Warframe player that has put in 1500hrs in Warframe so I really really like looters... also I agree with Zslayer on the combat system being very underrated... people were giving it shit but it's actually the best kind of combat system... the kind that is based on action and reaction, dodging and parrying instead of endless OP combos that look cool but make the game very easy and not a challenge at all...
Finally I believe that the devs are working on the game constantly and the only reason it was released so barebones is that Sony wanted to make it a posterboy for the new PS5 console and show off it's graphics and they were forced to rush it out unfinished because of the PS5 launch date... now they are improving on it constantly and they keep believing in the game... and honestly, if Destiny 2 and Warframe survived their godawful launches why not Godfall too?
@@ZslayerDre I agree with you on your point of view... and honestly Godfall devs were actually screwed by Sony because they forced them to push the game out unfinished and full of bugs to meet the PS5 console launch date... I believe that after the August update we're seeing the game they actually wanted to bring to us and as you said they will keep working on it... I am really excited to get this game free on PS Plus next month... it has insane potential if the devs don't screw up... I just hope they keep working on the Valorplates to make them more unique, offering even more unique powers and combat styles based on the Valorplate you wear... this is the one thing that Warframe does better than any other game ever... every Warframe gives you a completely different playstyle and also Warframe doesn't treat it's community like they're imbeciles that can't use enough braincells to make a build themselves... so they give you insane freedom of building your own playstyle... Godfall can't reach that level in any way but I think they should aim to improve on their current Valorplates and make them more unique...
btw, you got a sub and you do a great job man... also, you have a very good voice for such reviews, clear tone and good volume...
You won't have to pay for it if you have a pc and epic games it will go free for a week a week after this reply if you get it during that week you will have it permanently
Nice review excellent presentation, you earn yourself a new sub ,how come this channel is less than 1k sub? the game is on sale now and just wondering if I should pick it up in 2021. I’m a MH grinder type and this game looks like what I need for the next couple of months.
MH probably has a bit more enemy variety but there's definitely some MH influence in Godfall. While the systems in place are very different it's similar in MH where you min/max your gear and progressively fight harder and harder enemies. Lot's of stuff to grind especially with the new expansion although I'd like to see 1 more xpac to get things to a really good place. Thanks for the sub hopefully it won't be under 1k for much longer!

They had a crazy sale on Prime day and it ended up costing half of what I paid for it a week before that lol. I'm sure they will do a good sale on PSN before the expansion comes out.
Hiding the story away in obscure journal passages is bad story telling? I agree, but try telling that to a Souls fan, they'll have a damn stroke.

For me, the ONLY way I'd buy this is if they removed the online ONLY requirement.
I'm pretty puzzled why it's that way since you can play through everything solo if you want. A lot of games are like this now and have to wonder what will happen when the servers go down, hopefully before then they will put out a patch to make it so people can play online.
@@ZslayerDre I'm sure making solo games, into live-service only online effects the sales too. Remember Hitman, the backlash was so bad they changed the online only requirement

Thanks! Although they never say how long an exclusivity deal is for, its generally for 6 months or 1 year so if it's coming to Xbox we should see an announcement soon. Sometimes it seems like Sony will extend the deal, although I don't see that happening in this case (assuming it is for 1 year). I hope it does come to Xbox though or even gamepass.

Its combat reminds me a lot of the latest God of War

I had heard the biggest issue with combat was the inability to cancel so players kept getting cheap shot deaths when trying to combo... Is that accurate?
I read somewhere that the inability to cancel was a deliberate design choice so you really had to think about your actions. It's really only an issue with the slower weapons the faster ones not as much. Early on before I figured out you really need to focus on parrying I did die a few times from this but later on in the game it's not as much of an issue once you get more tools at your disposal. I would personally prefer to be able to cancel combos but you get used to it.
I've been playing the challenger edition. Feels like it's trying to be Destiny. There's too much going on. It's too confusing. I don't like. The battles are a mess, just a button masher.
Trying to platinum the game myself
Outside of getting to floor 20 in AToT it's a pretty fun platinum. Has extra dlc trophies now too.

The ascended edition was on sale on amazon when I got it then again for Prime Day (half of what I paid for it of course). Looks like it went up a bit but standard edition is still $30 off on amazon right now.

Does it offer good endgame?
It has a few endgame options, they just added in the Lightbringer mode update (I covered it in a newer video) which does add in a more challenging endgame experience than what was in the base game and where you can get some of the best new gear.
Is it like anthem?
I didn't play Anthem but from what I've seen they are completely different gameplay wise.
there a a few of us that play on pc still, it is a real pity there is no cross play, whether that is to do with sony or the dev team who knows, one thing you didn't mention is it would have been better if the skill trees were tied to each valour plate so you don't have to respec everytime you change or want to do a diff build, hope that makes sense i have played on and off since the game came out.
It never makes sense to me why they won't allow cross play especially if there's no microtransactions (it usually seems to Sony blocking it but never know). And yeah sometimes for sake of time I will leave some things out although I pretty much kept the same build throughout I had horrible luck getting the gear set I wanted so I just stuck to a bleed build mostly because that's what dropped for me.

I know they are crazy expensive, I still can't believe I lucked out with one. I'm having that issue with graphics card though - I desperately need a new one but way too expensive.
The game is great I was playing the PC version but I'm ready to play PS4 version of my computer can't run it I'm headed ran on my brother's computer and as soon as he gets home he gets on his computer so I'm only able to get like 2 hours a day on it so be nice to finally go to play it on PS4 and I have to get off it and finish it play it straight through cuz I'm going to be honest with you I see no reason to get a PS5 right now there's just not a big enough a library and must have games of shooting yourself in the foot by putting them back on the PS4. So with games coming like lost soul aside and tales of arise I don't see a reason to drop 400 or 500 on other system the games are still coming on the old console
I totally agree on waiting for PS5. Since I've gotten mine Godfall has really been the only ps5 game that I've played, everything else runs exactly as it would on my ps4 pro outside of a small handful of games. I mean the extra performance is nice, but if I didn't need it to cover upcoming games then I would have waited till they come out with a model with a larger SSD, the thing fills up insanely fast and I constantly have to delete and redownload games and not to mention all the bugs/glitches I've run into with the PS5 UI. Godfall should be fine on ps4, it'll be 30 fps but still totally playable and I think this expansion will just improve the game overall.

I want to try this game, but every time I go to buy it I can't help but think there are better games for me to spend my money on. Seriously how do you have different damage types that don't actually do anything different? This just seems like a very pretty, very empty experience.
They've since changed how the damage types work when they did the expansion update thankfully. Now with the expansion and extra game mode added in there's a decent amount of content although I would like to see one more big patch to add in a few more things.
godfall for $30 bucks is worth it on ps4 pro, he'll it's miles better than outriders
