"Humanitarian aid supplies" (Two huge bombs clearly displayed on the back of the truck) Yea, you're not fooling anyone with that... Unless those bombs are filled with chocolate.
The XB-70 and B-1 programs aren't necessarily direct predecessor aircraft to the B-2. Just predecessor programs whose failures led to the creation of an entirely new program. The B-2 draws its heritage from the earlier Northrop YB-49, a late 40's post war era strategic bomber that was derived from the YB-35, also by Northrop and a strategic bomber. Experience from testing the two aircraft helped the Northrop-Grumman team design the B-2. The design was broken out again to give the B-2 not only the benefits of lower drag and more efficient lift, but a reduced radar cross section from the lack of angular surfaces and stabilizers. Really if you wanted to you could trace the B-2 all the way back to the first flying wing aircraft created by Hugo Junkers in 1915, but I just felt it was relevant because the Valkyrie and Lancer were really two entirely different animals that don't share anything with the B-2.
sharpshooter740 Well politically it got greenlit because of the failure of the other two leading proposals of that time and the fact they had delayed the creation of the next-gen bombers meant stealth technology had developed far enough. Just explains the catalyst really.
Also about the XB-70 it was designed to out run SAM's but it had a bit of a problem with wingtip vortexes so much so that during one of the photo-shoots for it that one of the chase planes was destroyed by getting sucked into it (which also partially damaged the XB-70 as well). As for the B-1 the one you mention is the A designation the B designation, which is till used today, is a mid to high altitude one that is meant as more to use cruise missiles. As for next time I see no radar fence so an A-10 type aircraft should be good. Perhaps even an armed amphibious rescue might be a good idea.
EnterElysium shame it would be awesome to see all those landing craft and jeeps with the weapon managers from bd firing the guns while you drive the vechs up the beach
Glad to see WWK making a return. the original WWK series is the reason I subscribed. Slightly annoyed that my subscription box missed this 3 days ago. Luckily it randomly showed up in my recommended videos.
Yes! Waited for so long for this to come back. And in the original format, too! Really missed those build videos. What made the original WWK so successful wasn't overly complicated missions. In fact the missions were pretty straightforward. Enemy has X, build Y to destroy it. What made WWK so awesome was the vehicle build part and the fact that you always immersed people into the universe by talking about the geopolitical situation, the various sides involved in the war, their tech, their doctrines, their ideologies. You should do that more, talk about what MechJeb is doing, which territories it occupies, what do the Elysium Empire's leaders think MechJeb may be planning, etc. Just talk more about the universe, its all this needs to be perfect.
I'm now going to make a plausible representation of WWK series's fans reaction to this video. Ahem. *OMGF WWK3 IS OUT OMGOMGOMGOMGG FAPFAPFAPFAPFAPFAPFAPFAPFA YEEES I WAITED FOR THIS FOR YEEEEEEEARS AAAAAAAAAAH MY EVERYTHING IS BURNING, LIKE, FAVOURITE, OH SHIIIIT, WHEN IS THE NEXT VIDEO PLS BE IN 2 HOURS*
This was fun! I always loved the space-based combat of world war K a little bit more, but this is more like the first series, so I love it! Hopefully, enough people are excited by this series to let it go on for a while. now I can't wait for this rescue mission
So how long will this series last? 5-6 episodes? :P RE the yaw issue, I've seen drag rudders in use on flying wings before (can't remember the exact plane). Little grates pop up on the wing to add drag on one side, causing yaw.
Tom Holtorf Even if Germany did still have "secret" Ho 229s they'd be completely useless in modern combat. They're slower, less durable (made out of wood for christs sake) don't have radar like modern fighters and so on.
The B-2 does NOT use vectored thrust from its engines to yaw. Rather, it has split ailerons on the end of each wing. These will split apart to create a drag moment on one side of the craft, yawing the entire bomber towards the direction of drag
I think for the next mission you should go for an amphibious long range tank killer that can also pick up the kerbal. Or a helicopter/ VTOL carrier with bombardment and rescue aircraft. Glad to see WWK come back, to me it was always the hallmark series of you channel, it was the reason I started watching and ever since the end of WWK2 I've kinda started drifting from the channel. Keep it up EE!
rexrex600 Yeah, ditto on the paveway, I wouldn't go for an F-117, we've already tried a stealth bomber, though I was disappointed he didn't go for the Vulcan design.
Thank you so much for bringing WWK back from the dead, truly my favourite series, I know how much time goes into these. Just wanted you to know that I really appreciate the return to Kerbin.
Actually for the yaw movement the b-2 uses these split wing airbrakes. They open at the ends of the wings and its like a flap and another flap upside down on top of it. This makes drag on one wing and foces the aircraft to yaw in that direction.
Something I've noticed: The LLL Dual autoloader cannon is absolutely murderous. I tried putting 18 of them on Mk4-based plane, and it blew the living snot out of KSC from like 10 kilometers out in FAR.
There are even hints that being able to fly obliquely in a flying wing may lead to advantages due to being able to mess with wing sweep in a relatively simple manner.
More World War K! Yay! If I may make a suggestion, this situation calls for a helicopter gunship. I've had great success in the past up-arming the civilian 'copter from the KSO pack, but I imagine that Mec-Jeb are going to be trying to bring anti-air tanks pretty quickly, so you might want something with better armor.
Challenge for next episode: Air-drop 3 tanks of your own design design using burn together, then pilot them and have a turn-based battle like in Kerbal Origins. I would love to see combat like that return!
The B-2 has no thrust vectoring capability. It achieves yaw control by having two control surfaces on top of each other and one will extend up and the other extend down at the same time to create an even drag on one side of the plane.
IDEA: With a basic armor coat (enough to take on a single tank round), underside weapons, 2.0 meters lift, and some side-based rockets, I've gotten hover-tanks up to 150+ meters per second on bumpy terrain. Keep the speed below 100 and you could get anywhere on-planet in mere minutes.
I suggest, if you're serious about rescuing that kerbal, either a VTOL with a serious loadout(maybe a few missiles, but aim to have 'enough' dakka), or a delivery system for a tank with room for more then the tank crew. Maybe a hover tank. With a futuristic main cannon and 2 drone LASER weapons for point defense. ...Or you could just make a weird, overcomplicated drone bristling with missiles, with a UAV LASER on the tip, and a small rover/vtol ship to drop as well.
It does have a yaw, but it's fairly odd and pretty much impossible to get working in KSP. It has something called "split rudders" and they're located near the end of each of the wings and it opens these to create more drag(or slow down that side), thus turning the B-2
Gabriel Abdel Thank you, but I have already tried to do this before. It just starts going side to side because of SAS (because it tries to counter the movement). But I think I'm going to give it another go now, since I've just come home from holiday.
I'd recommend if you're using basic bombs to not go for a carpet bomber since that is better for attacking bases. But a Dive bomber would be better against tanks. Something like the JU-87 Stuka. Simply fly high, roll-dive over into the target and aim and pull up the moment you drop the load. Much more percise when dealing with small targets like vehicles or bunkers.
Against these tanks I think a VTOL gunship might work. The tanks don't have any anti air, so slowly drifting side to side aught to do for evasive manoeuvres. Not only that but it would allow for extraction of the stranded aid worker. :) Edit: Oh, sorry, thanks for all the time and effort you put into this EE.
I think a dive bomber would be a good option, it is much more accurate therefore has much less chance for collateral damage. Also if physics is accurate enough the extra velocity from the dive will provide some additional damage
The throttle control is cool but the gimbals on the engines work fine, plus it's easier to just bank the turns. It might be worth it if you could bind the keys but using a slider to fly a plane isn't practical.
I just made a B-2 in 1.2 and it uses juno engines and has the engine above the wing. the engines are insanely weak, and work fine at like 140 m/s. the engines are above the wing and you wouldn't be able to tell a difference.
there is always the realization every time i watch wwk i remember Macey dean who made the same thing but dissapeared from the internet compleatly then fear for elysium's life
By the looks of the B-2 you had a harder time controlling it because the B-2 was lower on fuel and using the engines to yaw cased unbalance fuel so when you switched the engines to one throttle while landing it started turning try and find a way to make it all one tank or balance it
Glad to see Wwk back up. Hope its kind of like the first one. Would like to see dog fights and the aircraft carrier. Maybe you could do a stealth type mission with the kerbals. Just suggestions.
EE, did you hear the story of the cargo jet pilot who got hit by a shoulder fired missile launcher, lost all hydraulics (So all control surfaces) and managed to learn to fly his aircraft using purely the ability to differentiate the power of his engines, he landed successfully.
Hey for the next episode you should try a naval assault using a ship, or station one outside loadrange and launch an attack helicopter off it, make for a more stable, accurate missileplatform, or maybe some cruisemissiles would fit the bill *
Looking this over, I think the Throttle Controlled avionics mod would of helped a lot, as it actually does a lot of the steering with variable throttle automatically for you. Also I noticed one of the kerbals in the vehicle is alive as you approach, you can see their name, I believe its Bilsby Kerman, Oh you see him, Bilble
World War K 3? Awesome. I don't think anything else needs to be said. {Waits for fan screaming} EDIT: Thanks to the magic of TH-cam video acceleration, I've finished the video! The bombs are pretty good at destroying vehicles they're in--when I tried out the K-Day Landing, I used one as a self-destruct mechanism in an early design. The kerbal sometimes survived. I hope MechJeb is forced to pay for its crimes...
Download the mod: Kerbin Side. It adds town and multiple launch points. It should be cool because then you can do. taking over cities. and laucnhing enemy vehicles. Its awesome
"Humanitarian aid supplies" (Two huge bombs clearly displayed on the back of the truck)
Yea, you're not fooling anyone with that... Unless those bombs are filled with chocolate.
Chocolate bomb!
Marty Melvin
weee weeee
Humanitarian aid supplies aka weapons. :)
hmm choclate
Imagine, those bombs, filled with Terry's Chocolate Oranges. They'd be just as deadly as if it was high explosive.
"They carry humanitarian supplies". So... Kerbals eat rockets ?
Danny's kerbals eat rockets.
***** no dannys kerbals eat dark matter
No no no no, don't be silly, Kerbals don't eat rockets, they drink the rocket fuel in lieu of clean water.
Choco bomb
I didn't say they necessarily ate them by choice...
tacticool missile?
laser from space
Dive bombing
drone kamikaze
any more ideas to take down the tanks?
a huge mech.
well they took out the tanks
yes I'm pretty sure that if the whole area is destroyed the tanks would be as well
yes I completely forgot its contents by now, and why are you even taking this so seriously.
Jack D because this is for the great commy one.
The XB-70 and B-1 programs aren't necessarily direct predecessor aircraft to the B-2. It is also quite similar in design to the ww2 German Horton ho 229. Look it up, it is quite interesting
landedhoaxer NatGeo did a bio on the Ho-229 they used Lockheed radar test bed and proved that it was the first stealth aircraft.
sharpshooter740 my god man. where can i find that info?
daneil franklin thats a joke right?
Dudes. It's back, the series that brought me to EE, MY FAVORITE SERIES ON TH-cam! I am crying manly tears cause I saw this...
Jackson Skylar been waiting about 2 Damn years for this series to start up and now I'm a year late
I say build a divebomber
maybe a JU-87 Stuka (German WW2 dive bomber)?
CrazyDutchguy is your doing that then why not make a me262 schwabble with the 57mm and actually have some decent speed
ti1tus I thought I had 4x 30 mm cannons.
There were numerous versions of the plane- 4x30 was standard, 50 was specialist dee for taking out heavy bombers
Gib both 4x30 und 50. Put on same flugzeug. Kill enemy Russisch.
TheMightyKraken I'd take a 75mm over a 50mm any day when taking down tanks.
Also about the XB-70 it was designed to out run SAM's but it had a bit of a problem with wingtip vortexes so much so that during one of the photo-shoots for it that one of the chase planes was destroyed by getting sucked into it (which also partially damaged the XB-70 as well). I thing he should use a multi craft control mod to stage a landing with the big Russian zubr hovercraft and several tanks jeeps and apcs
TheMightyKraken Do you mean burn together? Because that would be pretty neat to see.
Leif Eriksen Currently not working in 0.90 sadly... soon... soon...
EnterElysium Yeah I figured considering BD hasn't said he's back from vacation yet or anything.
Luckily it randomly showed up in my recommended videos.
people warned us, we didn't listen. when mech jeb went rogue it wiped 90% of our forces and spacecraft out in a week. we are barely hanging on now.
Yes! Waited for so long for this to come back. And in the original format, too! Really missed those build videos. What made the original WWK so successful wasn't overly complicated missions. YOU NOT HAPPY ENOUGH!!!!!!
Smilecorpers Lol! I just laughed way to hard at your comment XD
This was almost equal to Macey Dean coming back. Almost ;(..........
Also wwk 3 three THREE......... You see where eye'm goeyeng weyeth theyeis....
Dylan Foxall Why did you go have to make me sad? :'(
This was fun! I always loved the space-based combat of world war K a little bit more, but this is more like the first series, so I love it! Hopefully, enough people are excited by this series to let it go on for a while. now I can't wait for this rescue mission
"where's the cockpit?!" ......omg....laughed my butt off all night
THE HYPE IS REAL! thank you EE this is what i subbed for. wwk not a bunch of series i watch at first than get bored of
So how long will this series last? 5-6 episodes? :P RE the yaw issue, I've seen drag rudders in use on flying wings before (can't remember the exact plane). Little grates pop up on the wing to add drag on one side, causing yaw.
I think the ho 229 used that
The B-2 does have those and can use them as such but the ruin the radar cross-section so they are not used while on mission generally.
Alejandro Kellman SHHH!... The Americans can never know what we have. We do not speak of that ''thing'' anymore.
Tom Holtorf Even if Germany did still have "secret" Ho 229s they'd be completely useless in modern combat. They're slower, less durable (made out of wood for christs sake) don't have radar like modern fighters and so on.
EnterElysium Interesting, thanks for the info. Sorry for the cruel joke :P
The B-2 does NOT use vectored thrust from its engines to yaw. Rather, it has split ailerons on the end of each wing. These will split apart to create a drag moment on one side of the craft, yawing the entire bomber towards the direction of drag
I think we can write that one off as a loss
build an SR 71 next
That wouldn't do anything. The SR-71 was used as a high altitude spy device, which is heavily outdated and replaced by spy satellites.
battlefieldwaffles i know it would just be fun to see EE crash it and blow it up
what about a yf-12, basically an a-12 (sr71's sister) with weapons
so, he should build an obsolete, finicky weaponless spyplane? well he already did.
The Eye yeah to spy what the opposing side is planning
I think for the next mission you should go for an amphibious long range tank killer that can also pick up the kerbal. Or a helicopter/ VTOL carrier with bombardment and rescue aircraft.
Glad to see WWK come back, to me it was always the hallmark series of you channel, it was the reason I started watching and ever since the end of WWK2 I've kinda started drifting from the channel. Keep it up EE!
Honestly, to get rid of those tanks, I'd go for a Tornado GR4 equivalent.
Ideally carrying paveways or similar. Maybe an F-117 would be appropriate?
I would go for a b52 with a murican flag on it bombing a small Vietnamese town oh sorry we aren't talking about the Vietnam war are we?
rexrex600 Yeah, ditto on the paveway, I wouldn't go for an F-117, we've already tried a stealth bomber, though I was disappointed he didn't go for the Vulcan design.
Laser blimps must be involved at some point. They must.
Streaky100001 An F-111 with an ~8 tonne bombload would do the trick, but variable geometry wings :/
Love the world war k series. I could watch them over and over again!!!
Humanitarian aid my arse
As I notice so many others have pointed out. Derp.
Thank you so much for bringing WWK back from the dead, truly my favourite series, I know how much time goes into these. Just wanted you to know that I really appreciate the return to Kerbin.
8 view hype
Yay its tape
I caught it at eight minutes after upload. Interesting.
Alejandro Kellman Yay it's someone who recognizes me!
TAPE Gaming
I also watch your channel.
Me too, you're awesome! Keep up what you're doing, its incredibly entertaining and extremely helpful
12:27 (Back at the KSC) "... ... ... HEY JEB!!!"
"Yeah?"
"THE AIRBRAKES WORK!!! Like... REALLY well!!!"
I'm so glad you brought this series back u remember eager to wait every week for a new episode!
OH, wow, thankyou EE, my day just got infinitely better! I really needed to come home and see this.
So much satisfaction, so much awesome, so much worth the wait, so much cool bomber! Just brilliant!
Yes sortof back to the roots of the WWK spirit!! Go elysium!
It is so great to see this series back!
Actually for the yaw movement the b-2 uses these split wing airbrakes. They open at the ends of the wings and its like a flap and another flap upside down on top of it. This makes drag on one wing and foces the aircraft to yaw in that direction.

Interesting episode, I'm glad this is back. I'm eager to see the transition into space.
Elysium i was worried about this being fan filler but you brought back the original and 1/4 scale is very close. I like facts.
EnterElysium please keep this series going your wwk videos are my favorite ones I love them so much!
Love the return to form with this one!!!
You sir are a fantastic builder on ksp and indeed a great youtuber! And I thank you!
Finally WWK is back! I have been waiting so long for this....
I love channels that are actually informative and know what they are saying
I ayee.
THANKYOU WWK is my favourite series
Nice work! Pilots saved a lot lives!
At last a full length KSP video! Thanks EE!
There are even hints that being able to fly obliquely in a flying wing may lead to advantages due to being able to mess with wing sweep in a relatively simple manner.
Thank you so much for bringing this back! This series was the sole reason I subscribed in the first place! Thank you!
That one had the space combat, right? Anyways, he did turn-based combat, him vs MechJeb ships.
The B-2 has no thrust vectoring capability. It achieves yaw control by having two control surfaces on top of each other and one will extend up and the other extend down at the same time to create an even drag on one side of the plane.
Your airbrake design seemed to be the most effective airbrakes I have ever seen. Stopped the B2 so hard it imploded.
In Soviet Russia. Air breaks you
So glad this series is back
Thank you so much for doing another WWK series.
Quick input, the B1-Lancer is still in use, it's being used on the attacks on ISIS and such
IDEA: With a basic armor coat (enough to take on a single tank round), underside weapons, 2.0 meters lift, and some side-based rockets, I've gotten hover-tanks up to 150+ meters per second on bumpy terrain. Keep the speed below 100 and you could get anywhere on-planet in mere minutes.
omg im so happy its back keep up the great work elysium
The amount of explosions in this video is over 9000!
FINALLY I've been watching WWK since the first episode in season 1!!!
Awesome, a reason to watch EnterElysium! For a while there I had no reason to stick around, but now I'm happy.
wow that mid air explosion was awesome !
Best KSP series ever!!
I don't know about the asymmetric thrust thing for yaw, but the B-2 does have clamshell airbrakes on the wingtips to help it yaw.
You could also try using the speed brakes on the wings independently. If you want to yaw left, lift the left brake. Same goes for the right.
It does have a yaw, but it's fairly odd and pretty much impossible to get working in KSP. It has something called "split rudders" and they're located near the end of each of the wings and it opens these to create more drag(or slow down that side), thus turning the B-2
You can use airbrakes to replicate this, with the added benefits of more brakes.
Gabriel Abdel Thank you, but I have already tried to do this before. It just starts going side to side because of SAS (because it tries to counter the movement). But I think I'm going to give it another go now, since I've just come home from holiday.
Good luck!
Gabriel Abdel Thank you! :D
I know the drag, but i made one. If u look at my last Inkurgency vid, u can see it flying at the end.
Super excited for the continuation of this series!!!!!
omg you have no idea how awesome your vids are
I love this series just don't swear but you earned a subscriber
I've very happy this is back
I'd recommend if you're using basic bombs to not go for a carpet bomber since that is better for attacking bases.
Edit: Oh, sorry, thanks for all the time and effort you put into this EE.
Really awesome concept, love the series! 😉
I think a dive bomber would be a good option, it is much more accurate therefore has much less chance for collateral damage. Also if physics is accurate enough the extra velocity from the dive will provide some additional damage
Kerbin is a 10th scale to earth. 600 km radius vs 6000 kilometers radius. (Rounded off)
It's back been waiting for this for a year.
Im so Happy you brought back WWK :D!!!!!!
seeing you announce this video on twitter made my day, and then this actually video :D
The b2 sprit used a "yaw control" by having essentially small air breaks in the top of each " wing " like the ho229
I love the fact that WWK is back !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had a pretty bad day today...open up the sub box...HOLY FUCKING SHIT, FUCKING WORLD WAR K, JESUS CHRIST, WHAT THE FUCK!!! This just made my day
Not even one minute in and I already love it! :D
there is always the realization every time i watch wwk i remember Macey dean who made the same thing but dissapeared from the internet compleatly then fear for elysium's life
By the looks of the B-2 you had a harder time controlling it because the B-2 was lower on fuel and using the engines to yaw cased unbalance fuel so when you switched the engines to one throttle while landing it started turning try and find a way to make it all one tank or balance it
im so happy this is back.
the b2 also could yaw by using air-brakes on the tip of its wings to increase drag on one side.
Great Jeb of holiness in all that is explosive and boosters, wwk is alive XD
the b2 spirit has 2 air brake type things on the edge of the wings that when one is extended it will act like a rudder
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaa I miss this series i would pay money to see it keep going
This was uploaded on my birthday. YAY!
yeeeees, i've been waiting for this moment!!!
MY LIFE MEANS SOMETHING AGAIN THX YOU ENTER ELYSIUM I WOULD HUG YOU SO MUCH RIGHT NOW
Looking this over, I think the Throttle Controlled avionics mod would of helped a lot, as it actually does a lot of the steering with variable throttle automatically for you.
Also I noticed one of the kerbals in the vehicle is alive as you approach, you can see their name, I believe its Bilsby Kerman, Oh you see him, Bilble
Try using air brakes above and below the wing at each side. Deploying one set of air brakes will slow that side of the craft down.
the b-2 rolls to the side they want to turn to and then pulls up. This motion is actually more efficient than just a vertical stabilizer.
_Underscorezed _ In ksp nobody really uses yaw anyway because everyone does that, so yea.
World War K 3? Awesome. I don't think anything else needs to be said.
{Waits for fan screaming}
EDIT: Thanks to the magic of TH-cam video acceleration, I've finished the video!
The bombs are pretty good at destroying vehicles they're in--when I tried out the K-Day Landing, I used one as a self-destruct mechanism in an early design. The kerbal sometimes survived.
I hope MechJeb is forced to pay for its crimes...
Download the mod:
Kerbin Side.
It adds town and multiple launch points. It should be cool because then you can do. taking over cities. and laucnhing enemy vehicles. Its awesome
Sometimes i go back to your Channel and watch the good old World war k Series and Theo BOOOM WORLD WAR K 3 F*CK YEAH
Real b-2 also uses speedbrakes at the tip of the wing for yaw control, it slows one end making it turn
Most of the fatalities and losses that this guy faces are those of incompetence.
