I have been trying to dock for years now. This is the one thing that always gets me to stop playing because I can't seem to do it. This video is a lot simpler than most other docking videos so I hope I can finally get it to work🤞 Edit: I finally did it, thank you so much!!

The rendezvous can be performed far more efficiently. Why’d you go into target relative mode so far from the station? If you use an astrodynamic approach to the station and execute your maneuvers precisely you can get there with far fewer maneuvers and less delta-v. it will also allow you to ensure that your relative velocity in close proximity to the station is low well in advance of closing in on it.
thanks so much, i was finally able to dock my 100 ton engine (running on xenon and has 47,000 m/s) to my huge space station in RSS and im ready to go to saturn. tbh making orbit with the huge payload was harder than docking after i saw this video

I know this video is old but please help me find out what im doing wrong i cant get close to the other one whenever i do it just does like a flip around the ones thats moving i cant get it within 20 metres and the bottom navball m/s wont go below 1 otherwise i start flying in the opposite direction ive never been so frustrated at this game please help Edit: guys i figured it out the speed was from slowly veering to the left or another direction from rcs to make it easier i highly recommend figuring out how to use docking mode that made it 1000x easier

You're almost there! When the nav ball goes crazy like that make a "pro-target" burn SLOWLY. And then switch to a retrograde (nav must say "target"). rinse and repeat.
Sometimes there's a glitch with the docking ports. Make sure they're compatible, if so try backing up or making sure other parts aren't blocking the docking. It also helps me to turn off SAS and RCS. Hope this helps!

Storage aswell. You can store excess fuel up there, send a rocket and refuel. I also have used them as a gateway for returning kerbals sometimes if I forgot the chutes :)
You should be able to press square or x depending on console on the command pod on the other craft and select control from here and it should let you control
Hey, so you can only 'switch' to nearby craft that's within 1 km I think, you can do that by using the lb1 or rb1 and left or right keypad to cycle them. Look in the controls option for 'cycle craft' If it's further away then you have to use the tracking station I'm afraid.
This makes no sense to me at all. i have attempted this 3 times and every time i fail. I do not understand why you retrograde. Every time i do this in relation to the station i fly into the planet or my orbit relative to the target changes drastically and i do not get any closer to my target

Immediate flaw. Is when you start talking about setting the nab ball to target you never specify the How. Poor quality right there and the reason why so many of these seem so damn confusing.
I think if you're trying to learn to dock it is fair to assume you know the basics of orbital mechanics. If you want real basic tutorials, I learnt from orb8r or Mike aben

You must change your nav ball to read "target". If it says, "orbital" or "surface" you will always fall back to the planet. Hope this helps!

Nav ball must say "target" otherwise, retrograde will always make you fall back to Earth.

The principal will yes, but the controls? I’m not sure, I haven’t really tried ksp2.
