A common misconception, but the B-36 was meant to bomb Europe when first ordered. It was designed to bomb Europe from the US in the event that the UK fall before the US entered the war. Same with the Atomic bomb. The first targets suggested to FDR when they were developing the bomb were in Germany (I believe Dresden and Nuremberg were two of the main targets). It was only when they realized that the bomb more than likely would be too late to have an effect on the war in Europe, were targets switched to Japan

Some alternative fun facts about the b-36:
    1. There was also a plan to tip-tow RF-84s off the wingtips of the b-36 (project Tom-Tom). This is great in theory until you realize the rf-84 doesn't exactly have restrooms and the b-36 can fly for well over a day
    2. The b-36 was used on at least one occasion to ferry a partially assembled b-58 hustler dangling from under its bomb bay
    3. The b-36 used a tunnel with a mechanic's trolly and rope system to go from the front pressurized section to the rear pressurized section.
    4. The original XB-36 had a pair of 9'2" tall wheels for its main landing gear. Unfortunately the loading was so great from the main gears that it was restricted to 3 airports due to concrete thickness, and the gear was switched out. This is also the reason for the hump on the back inside of the wing, to accomodate the wider landing gear.
    5. On the subject of landing gear, the xb-36 also tested tank tread style gear for less prepared fields. Because someone fully intended for a plane with a longer wingspan than a 747 to take off of a giant grass field
    6. The xb-36 fielded a windscreen a lot more like the b-29, however the production b-36 switched that out for the greenhouse for...visibility probably? idk
    7. A good chunk of the plane is magnesium, which means it not only catches fire, but catches fire in such a way that spraying water on the fire makes it worse.
    8. It originally had eight gun positions, six of which were retractable pairs of remote turrets, each turret with a pair of 20mm cannons. The other two were nose and tail guns. These were removed during featherweight 1 as it was thought the b-36 could outmaneuver fighter aircraft at its cruise altitude
    9. They made a transport version of this beast, the XC-99. Same wings, same engines, super weird looking tall fuselage. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convair_XC-99
    10. There were 121 of these, potentially the most overt aircraft to exist, configured with a camera for reconnaissance.
    11. The peacemaker name isn't official, because there were objections because "only god is the peacemaker"
    12. These aircraft never dropped a bomb on an enemy target, conventional included.

I dont think you understand, the spaceplane b36 failed because you didn't attach the fuel b47s.
Additionally, as per the original designs, the super-b36 would not carry its 271 goblin parasite aircraft on its wings, instead it would use the giant nuclear autocannon in its center to fire them at any possible targets, which would obviously allow it to outrange missile aircraft such as the f35 or su-something-something which were being designed around the same time.

Some more facts about this wonderful wacky aeroplane: the desired report on the engines was "Six turning, four burning" but the unreliability of the engines gave rise to "Two turning, two burning, two joking, two smoking, and two unaccounted for." At high altitude, its huge wings gave it fighter-like maneuverability. There was _NO_ oil change interval established because any oil put in was consumed before it wore out. You could work on some of the engines mid-flight. It could sustain flight at high altitude on the jets alone, and this and those huge wings would let it fly very slowly, slower than the stall speed of its escorts, which developed a game of trying to get your own escorts to fall down by tricking them into flying too slow.

The YB-60 was pretty much a straight forward jet conversion of the B-36, literally taking the same wing and tail surfaces, sweeping them back, adding new control sufaces and replacing the piston engines in the wings with jet engines on pylons under the wings.
While the YB-60 had a longer range and a heavier bomb load than the B-52, the B-52 was over 100mph faster, had a much higher service ceiling and was more stable in flight thanks to it being designed from the ground up as a jet aircraft. The thicc wing, while necessary to house the massive piston engines in the B-36, proved to be a liability in the YB-60.

Besides the B-47+B-36+B-47 concept they also worked on the triple B-36. (3 B-36s wingtip to wingtip to wingtip) This was intended to carry parasite fighter-bombers close to the USSR. Then they would be dropped by the 3 bomb-bays and do a high speed dash to drop a great big H-Bomb on a airfield. The fighter-bombers would land in Turkey.
Triple b-36? Yeah, another extended range idea.
