    Hi Erin, this was very helpful thank you! When I have track changes turned off on both documents, I can copy and paste the comments/track changes. However, it doesn’t show that I have done this. I need to second document to show the track changes and comments but also to show that I have updated the document in this way. How do I get that to work? Thank you!!

    • @erinwrightwriting
      @erinwrightwriting  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching! I'm afraid I'm a bit confused about your request. Can you provide more detail about how you want the second document to be updated other than having the tracking and comments appear with the connected text?

      That is an interesting question! I don't have a tutorial on that topic specific to comments. However, I do have a tutorial showing how to use AutoCorrect to create reusable text (th-cam.com/video/_JhwnixAJfs/w-d-xo.html), which you could use in the comments. Thank you for watching!

    So for assignments
    Copy paste can be tracked this way too ?
    Not using any other plagiarism tool.

    • @erinwrightwriting
      @erinwrightwriting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching! Copying and pasting can be tracked with Track Changes. However, the Track Changes function is easy to turn off and on, so it's not meant to be used as a plagiarism tool. The Editor function has a web-based plagiarism option called "Similarity."

    • @erinwrightwriting

      Thank you for watching my video! You should be able to copy text from one Word file into another with comments without losing the comments. However, be sure to turn off Track Changes in the receiving file to prevent the text you are copying from being treated like a track changes edit. Best of luck!

    Hi. Do you have info on transferring text from a website into Word? I'm having trouble using Track Changes once text is copied and pasted. Thanks!

    • @erinwrightwriting
      @erinwrightwriting  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Nancy. Thank you for watching my video. If you are using a PC, consider pasting the web text into Notepad first. This should strip away any unwanted formatting. Then copy the text from Notepad into Word. I hope that helps!

    Thank you for the videos. I was wondering if you could help me with a problem I'm having. I often have to manage multiple versions of the same document that contain comments and track changes. Each version has comments from a different person. I am able to combine the different documents, with the comments, into one. When I do this each comment has the name of the person who added it. However, when I save the merged file and open it again the comments no longer contain the name of the person who commented and all the comments are attributed to "Author". Is there a way to keep the name of the person who added each comment after the file has been merged and saved?

    • @erinwrightwriting
      @erinwrightwriting  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Michael. Thank you for watching my video! When you use Word’s combine tool, the user names for tracking and comments should be maintained. But, snafus happen. I’m not sure of the exact cause of your issue; however, I suspect your Document Inspector is running. Before combining files, see if there’s a link in the Backstage Info tab (File > Info) that says, "Allow this information to be saved in your file.” (It will appear under Inspect Document.) If you see that link, you can click it to resume saving user data. Unfortunately, there’s no way to retrieve user data that has already been removed by the Document Inspector. If that doesn’t help, you may want to go to the Trust Center settings (File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Privacy Options) and uncheck “Remove personal information from file properties on save” if it is checked. However, use caution in the Trust Center because there are a lot of sensitive options there. I hope that helps. Best of luck!

    How does your program have the clipboard? It does not show up on my Word 2019, thanks!

    • @erinwrightwriting
      @erinwrightwriting  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, William. In my Word 2019, there is a clipboard group in the Home tab. I am able to open the clipboard from the dialog box launcher in that group. If your software has been changed from the defaults, that group may be in a different tab or you may have to right-click on the ribbon and select "Customize the Ribbon" to add it back in.

    • @rw42000
      @rw42000 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@erinwrightwriting It's so weird, I just downloaded all of the available updates yesterday so I should be all up-to-date. My paste group on the home tab only has the options 'paste', 'cut', 'copy', and 'copy formatting', theres no dropdown arrow or the word 'clipboard'. What do you mean by "right click on the ribbon" that doesn't do anything for me... Thanks so much for your help!

    • @rw42000
      @rw42000 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@erinwrightwriting Also, searching for 'clipboard' in 'help' doesn't bring up any results... maybe I should email microsoft or something

    • @erinwrightwriting
      @erinwrightwriting  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's really strange, William. I just updated my own software to make sure I'm not missing anything and I still have my Clipboard group, etc. Right-clicking an empty space in the ribbon should bring up a pop-up menu...since none of this is working in your software, you may, in fact, need to contact Microsoft. Good luck!
