      In this case I was increasing the pressure. Got more power out of it but at the cost of shot count. Went from 3 mags down to 1-1/2.
      Getting 100 shots now at factory power levels but had to put a bottle on it to do that

  • @mrhalfstep
    @mrhalfstep ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If you shot the gun over a chrony and noted the point where the velocity dropped off and then read the gauge on the tank, wouldn't that be pretty close to the reg pressure setting? Maybe record the pressure before and after each shot to nail it down a little more accurately, but it seems that it should give a good ballpark feel for what the reg was on, wouldn't you think? If a guy didn't have a chrony, I bet he could shoot some pellets at long range and note when they suddenly dropped in elevation on the target. Using really heavy pellets would probably make the drop more obvious and sooner, seems to me. What do you think? I guess if you had a gun with both gauges you could test the theory, if you just wanted to find out. Might keep you from messin' with installing a second gauge.

    Marauder pistol or notos? Which do you prefer? My prod is accurate ans quiet with a sumo.

    • @kidpellet6544
      @kidpellet6544  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have both though not equipped with the same scope. Oddly enough my Marauder pistol is all stock still???? while my Notos has a custom bottle on it now.
      I love all my Crosman/Benjamin stuff and have a couple of custom builds that are fantastic, however, stock Marauder pistol vs stock Notos, the Notos wins hands down. First, neither one is an extreme benchrest contender. More of a great 30 or 40 yard pesting/small game rig.
      With very similar accuracy and power it's my humble opinion there isn't enough difference to say one is hands down better than the other in that area.
      The Notos will indeed get 20 shots on the reg but doesn't seem to have as good a barrel as my Marauder pistol. The Marauder pistol I have will shoot really good for 10 or 15 shots and then needs a fill before poi starts to move.
      The fact that the Notos has a regulator, and I don't know of anyone reporting reg creep or total reg failure is great. It also has a side lever, which isn't as important to me as some others.
      The fact that the Notos comes with a fairly comfortable adjustable stock and the Marauder pistol has to be purchased as a kit or ordered separately, and costs more is another strike.
      Then there's the cost, most Marauder pistols I've seen lately are north of $450 without the stock which I believe are around $40, it's not adjustable or all that comfortable, to me anyway.
      The Notos, for the time being is still around $270. That's a lot of features for that price no matter what brand.
      There's also a custom Carm magazine for it, a couple of custom bottle options so it has enough interest that the aftermarket world is already on it.
      So I would definitely get a Notos over the Marauder pistol, probably going to get a lotta hate from the Marauder fans😬

  • @mary0224
    @mary0224 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have somethingto ask have you tried a heaver hammer spring in the notos ? A lot of us dont have the courage to pull the gun apart to adjust the reg but the hammer spring would be a easy swap out to get some more fps out of the gun

    • @kidpellet6544
      @kidpellet6544  ปีที่แล้ว

      The spring g is an easy swap for sure. The problem is, the spring in my two Notos is already opening the valve as far as the valve can open. That's why there is almost no noticable difference in hammer spring adjustment.
      Most are finding that the velocity drops off right around 1900 psi. So 1900 psi is the general consensus for the factory regulator setting.
      I increased my regulator to around 2300 psi and was able to get and adjustment from 12 fpe to 23 fpe with the factory spring but had to add a spacer to the spring.
      What's important to note is that my shot count went from 3 mags to one mag. I'm positive this is why the gun comes setup the way it is. It has a fairly small airtube and increasing the pressure and fpe makes a huge difference in shot count.
      There are some "plenum kits" on Ebay that if nothing else increases the volume of air the gun holds and gives a few more shots.
      So far though no one is bragging about a big power gain.
      Also, a few people in the Notos FB groups reported less that ideal threads and even chips in the plenum kit they got from Ebay.
      I dont know if your in the Notos FB groups (2) but there are ways to bottle these things and one guy that is offering to do the work.
      I bottled mine with a small carbon fiber bottle and at a factory 18 fpe it's getting 100 shots on the regulator. I put a little bigger bottle on it for an iguana hunt and didn't refill it the whole trip.
      The carbon fiber regulated bottle and adapter will run about as much as the Notos itself though.
      Maybe join both groups to see what people are doing. I'm in both as Ray Barnett and would be glad to share what I've done to mine so far

      Ok the springs in your Notos are fully opening the valve but if you put in a bit heavier spring the valve will open faster and stay open a bit longer therefore making more fps & fpe ! You said that you put a spacer in one of your Notos hammer springs isn't that the same thing as using a heavier hammer spring ?? Both the spacer & heavier hammer spring would preload the hammer spring !!

    • @kidpellet6544
      @kidpellet6544  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mary0224 yes, the spacer and the hammer spring being cranked up to the point of coil bing. Any more and the gun wouldn't cock. I did this for more power along with the regulator turned up to around 2300 or 2400 psi.
      I don't know the math on it but at some point I expect the pellet to be out of the barrel or nearly out of it before the valve can close.
      I'm certain in my case I was wasting a lot of air as it only got one mag before it fell off.
      It also didn't group as well at 30 yards. Not sure how far out I tested after that.
      My intentions were to get a little more power for 30 yard squirrels.
      I settled it back down to 18 fpe with 18 grain pellets and it shoots around 3/4" at 30 every time.
      Not exactly a target gun but plenty good enough for what I want and with even the small carbon fiber bottle it gets 100 shots at that power.
      Need to make a video on the conversion but I was waiting until I get my new block design finished before I disassemble it.
      Maybe help others out that are on the fence about mods and such

  • @gman9543
    @gman9543 ปีที่แล้ว

    So did you back out your hammer spring until you saw a decrease in velocity to get the optimal use of your air?

    • @kidpellet6544
      @kidpellet6544  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Initially there wasn't any real velocity change in the hammer spring adjustment at all. I suspected the hammer was already opening the valve all the way even on its lowest setting. This is because the regulator was set really low from the factory, probably to gain a few more shots.
      I backed the hammer spring all the way out then increased reg pressure until it lost velocity. Now when I turn the hammer spring up it actually increases velocity so I can tune for different ammo.
      It is currently bottled and using a paintball type regulator and 4500 psi carbon fiber bottle getting 100 shots per fill at 18.3 fpe.
      It gained just under a pound with the bottle conversion

A half turn on the reg and max out the hammer spring?

    • @kidpellet6544
      @kidpellet6544  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@slicktmi a half turn is a lot.
      If you dont have a chronograph try this.
      Fill the gun, shoot it at a target at 45 ish yards. Keep the same aim on the target and shoot it until the poi starts to drop.
      Check the pressure gauge and see what it says. Repeat and confirm the pressure at which it drops.
      This is roughly the regulator setting. Most are reporting 1900 psi.
      If you got the plenum kit from Ebay I think they come with a hammer spring spacer. Install that, turn the adjuster in as far as it will go and still cock. Then turn the reg up about a quarter turn.
      Repeat the shot string and see what pressure the poi drops again. Confirm it again and decide if you want to go more.
      You might be able to get some chronograph help from a local paintball or archery shop. You might have to bring your own backstop.
      I was able to get 23 fpe with approximately 2300 psi on the reg, a spacer on the hammer spring and JSB 18.13 pellets. That's plenty for pigeons and doves. The plenum kits should give you a little back on the shot count and a few fps.

      @kidpellet6544  ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't really need a video for that. It's easy, just turn it clockwise one turn then check to see if it clocks. Repeat until it doesn't. Then back it off a half turn until it cocks again.
      Fine tune it from there careful not to make it a hair trigger.
      Warning though, it could use a drop of blue thread lock to make it stay

      @kidpellet6544  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@2musiclover534 the ATN scopes both thermal and day/night don't actually do the calculating. There is a rangefinder add on and then ballistics app that works with bluetooth to change the reticle for that particular distance.
      I do not personally have all that setup. It also doesn't work with the Thor LT I have as it is the cheapest model they have.
      I just sort of deal with the range by keeping it in my zero lol.
      It's very interesting to zero a thermal lol. It sees nothing but heat differences. A piece of aluminum foil rolled up in your hands stuck in cardboard with a hole in it works for a target.
      Aluminum foil taped to cardboard with a cross made of black electric tape works.
      Anything but the $30 dollar ATN target lol.
      This one was just under a grand when I got it but now it's closer to $700.
      The hot setup is the day/night vision with a handheld thermal.
      The handheld thermal let's you scan the area/trees day or night for heat signatures that would be hard to see among vegetation then you can use the day/night vision to see if there are any obstructions like branches. The thermal doesn't do such a good job of showing branches and such.

      @hermes2019 if you really want the freedom and portability of a pumper then yes. It would be a very easy and inexpensive build. Big jump in power just putting a longer barrel on it. I believe you can get a drop in barrel on Ebay. Putting a shoulder stock on it is also really easy. You can get the Crosman stock but for me the length of pull is a little long. There's also some vendors selling a folding stock adapter that takes an AR style buffer tube and you can put whatever style AR stock you like on it. A little more expensive though. I made my own adapter to fit a Marauder pistol and got the cheapest buffer tube and stock I could find and it worked out great.
      Like the Crosman 2240 there is about no end to the mods you can buy or make

    • @kidpellet6544

      Not to adjust it. If your going to start disassembling parts of the trigger/receiver your not familiar with then I would degas just for safety.
      Generally though just turning the screw located in the trigger itself clockwise will take up all the slack.
      Take up to much slack and it will become a hair trigger. Back off just a little and it will be pretty good.
