In the books, you can't even get close to Valyria since it is an active volcanic site filled with toxic gas and Tyrion never gets close when he passes, he just sees the smoke and fire on the horizon. In the books, Tyrion passes by the ruins of the once great river city of Chroyane on the river Rhoyne which became known as the Sorrows after the Valyrians destroyed it. The Sorrows is basically a leper colony for the Stone Men. "Valyria" in the show is basically Chroyane in the books.
The "Valyrians", as an ethnic group, were largely destroyed by the Doom. The survivors that lived on in colonies such as the Free Cities generally intermingled with the local populations to such a degree that they ceased to exist as a distinct group. The Targaryen's wasn't the only family to survive the doom?
Adam of Hull of house velaryon had no confirmed targaryen ancestry but was a dragon rider.. it is the valyrian blood not the targaryen blood that allows them to be dragon riders
"Targaryen" is a family name. "Valyrian" is the name of a racial & ethnic group that is indigenous to Valyria. So, with that being said, the Targaryens ARE of the Valyrian race. Valyria was ruled by about 30 families (or something close to that number). These families were known as the Dragonlords. They were a small fraction of the Valyrian race as a whole, & as such they were the ruling elite of the Valyrian Freehold . Before The Doom, the Targaryens were one of these ruling Dragonlord families. Simply being a member of the Valyrian race is NOT what makes a person a Dragonlord , any more than being British does not necessarily mean that one is a member of the aristocracy. The Dragonlords had an innate ability to be close to dragons for reasons lost in the mists of time. They perfected this ability over the centuries by not only selectively breeding dragons, but by using blood & fire-based sorcery on them, which was dangerously potent & perilous stuff. But the Dragonlords took it even further by not only using these breeding techniques & sorcery on the dragons, they also used it on themselves. This is the origin of why the Targaryens wed brother to sister - as with all of their Dragonlord kin & ilk, brother-sister marriages were done to to preserve their ability to command dragons & to keep such power from becoming diluted with the blood of normal people.
Addam is a dragonseed despite being from house Velaryon-meaning that he has a Targaryen ancestor somewhere, with one of his parents being a cheeky Velaryon.
In the world of ice and fire there was a valyrian lady who married a yitish emperor in the east and she brought her dragon with her. So maybe there are some in Yiti who have the blood of the dragon.

I play CK2:A Game of Thrones Mod, curious I looked for referrences, and though I can't remember where or when I looked, it was confirmed minor houses other than the Velaryons, Celtigars, and the short-lived Qoherys houses of High Valyrian descent are loyal to Targs. Their seat is west of Massey's Hook.
So there are valyrian descendants all over essos but only lys and volentis have true old valyrians with valyrian traits. My fanfiction is that there is violence against them in lys and volentis and they are forced to migrate in westros with targeryen help.
Valeriyons and celtigars were not among the 40 dragonlords families..only Targaryens survived all 39 of other dragon lord families were extinct after the doom..wtf u talking lol
If I had to take a guess, since the Targaryen's were the only dragon lords left. That meant any other surviving Valyrians were eventually hunted down and killed by those who hated Valyrians. For annexing their lands and enslaving the people they conquered. Not to mention the Dothraki could be another factor. After the Doom, there was a period of non stop violence called the Century of Blood. Because without the Valyrian dragons keeping them in line, the Dothraki went absolutely wild pillaging as much of Essos as they could. Only cities like Qarth and Mereen were spared; even Yunkai, Astapor and other major cities got raided at least once.
The way I see it, not all Valyrian families were dragon riders. The dragon rider families probably had the highest status among the Valyrians and lived in Vlayria since it was the seat of their empire. The non dragon riding Valyrian families probably branched out to other parts of the world because of their lower status.
Jack Duck fat people can live just as long as anyone else, look at Winston Chruchill, that guy was an Alcoholic, Chained smoked Cigars for most of his love and was obese, he made it to 91 years old.
Seems like flimsy writing to me. The dragon lords in Lys and Tyrosh were just killed along with their dragons? Wasn't the first killing of a dragon in westeros a VERY big deal? And the Targs were a lesser dragon family. So they would assumingly have lesser dragons. How did a bunch of commoners in Lys kill dragons? Do they have scorpions in Essos? If dragons and their master's were that easy to kill, the valyrians would have never ruled anything

I am far less impressed with Martin's "world building" after viewing this little history. Considering how devastatingly omnipotent the last three dragons are in the more 'modern times' of Game of Thrones, it is ridiculous to think people thousands of years earlier would be capable of killing the surviving dragon lords and their dragons with far more primitive technology as related here. Martin states these early dragons were far large than Drogon. Dragons this large could easily wear metal armor to protect any vulnerable area, like grills over their eyes (like a knight's helmet or chamfron on an armored horse, so no dragon could be shot in the eye as we see in other portions of this "history". These dragons would be so valuable that every precaution would be taken to make them virtually invulnerable. Unfortunately Martin is too ignorant or real military technology in ancient and medieval times to keep his world even remotely realistic. The notion of Jaime spurring on his horse to attack a dragon on the ground as we see in the last season of the series is also totally asinine, though I cannot say if Martin would ever do something that stupid in his books. The first Roman cavalry to see Elephants were terrified of them and would not approach them at all, so to think that horses would attack a dragon confirms how ignorant the writers of the series are. (Just as the idiot-Bishop who dreamed up the St George and the Dragon fairytale, and all of the equally ridiculous dragonslayer nonsense that imitated it). It is a shame such a great series as Game of Thrones has degenerated to such childish, laughable rubbish (despite great acting and special effects), because both Martin and the series writers are far too ignorant of real military history and technology to write a realistic story.

But wouldn't any one from valyria be (and I know there are TONS OF survivors/descendants) "blood of the dragon"? Southam being said if any came to westeros (and had the valyrian traits like silver hair, purple eyes or all traits being the pale skin as well ) would Robert's hate/want to kill them? (Terribly sorry also just realized this is a mouthful 😅)
What is the name of the music used in this video, sounds like a Soul of cinder remix
if ever they made a show /movie bout old valyria civilisation at its peak😌.
I knew about velaryon, celtigars and some valyrian bastards that lived in the "free cities" like illyo wife. But house qoherys is new to me
I need a spinoff series/books of essos
Poor house Qoherys...Nobody survives Harranhall.
+potentially the Dayns and the Hoghtiwers because of their Valyrian looks. But these houses probably came long before the doom.
The Hightowers do not resemble the Valyrians at all.
As for Ashara Dayne (the only one with Valyrian looks) the Daynes are Dornishmen- they regularly descend from peoples outside Westeros- as people from Lys also have these appearances.
what if the other dragonlords had survived
"won't be any time soon" I'm watching this 8/16/2022. Still, "won't be any time soon" before the series is finished. I've lost hope there will be an ending. That man is not getting any younger. Just saying...he needs help. He needs to bring in an assistant writer to do the heavy lifting and just get it done.
Targaryen, Valareyn and Celtigar
I really petty the dragons
Varys is from Lis, so it's possible that his ancestors were from Valerya
the targeryans were or were not one of the 40 familys of dragon lords that ruled valyria?
They were part of the 40 who ruled the freehold and were one of the weakest families
@@Johnny-xu3ny the weakest of the 40 right?
Sérgio Beleza not sure but i think they weren’t very powerful they weren’t weak but they weren’t the strongest
@@sergiobeleza9630 yes
I really think you should speak less fast and articulate more, that would make it more enjoyable to watch
Edit: still a great video 😉
Johann Mendoza AGREED!! Great video, but he speaks way too quickly while meshing up the words he's trying to pronounce. For instance, "Vacation" @ 1:28 😖.
Can you make a Tully or Arryn family tree?
0:34 Aurion Belaerys I believe
correct me if I am wrong
Karlchene aka good boi Belaerys is the house of janaerys, the girl that tried to navigate sothoryos, but it Aurion could be from that house
I doubt that the 35 dislikes trolls can’t explain this with all the maps and banners. Good research.
the Old Bloods remind me of the World Nobles in one piece
Im a huuuge one piece fan!
Same! I fell in love back when I was watching the 4kids dub and have stuck with it all these years. I can't help but drawing similarities with most other pieces of fiction, I guess you say I'm a little obsessed. Haha.
Both stories have massive worlds and tons of interesting characters so I can see why you compare it to GoT
What about Baratheon? If orys Baratheon was aegons half brother wouldn’t that make the house made for him valyrian
His house didn't exist till after the doom so technically no.
"Wood"
i hope george r martin will wright a book about valeria
The Sunglasses and Rambtons are also High-Valyrians in Westeros.
Do you know where this was referenced?
I play CK2:A Game of Thrones Mod, curious I looked for referrences, and though I can't remember where or when I looked, it was confirmed minor houses other than the Velaryons, Celtigars, and the short-lived Qoherys houses of High Valyrian descent are loyal to Targs. Their seat is west of Massey's Hook.
So there are valyrian descendants all over essos but only lys and volentis have true old valyrians with valyrian traits.
My fanfiction is that there is violence against them in lys and volentis and they are forced to migrate in westros with targeryen help.
4:41 we got that but no ending still on the present time scale
What about house sunglass
Lol martin already finnished Fire and blood before the winds of winter
Fire and blood part one
He wrote it in Finnish :-)
@@jerrywhoomst1116 he’s about to finish part two and still no winds of winter xD
Valeriyons and celtigars were not among the 40 dragonlords families..only Targaryens survived all 39 of other dragon lord families were extinct after the doom..wtf u talking lol
Rip Qoherys
Jon snow is Valyrian
how is it possible they all died when they had so many colonies
(especially in sothoros)
Im wondering if there are more dragon riders further east???
George Martin better lose some fucking weight if he wants to get those books out
Jack Duck fat people can live just as long as anyone else, look at Winston Chruchill, that guy was an Alcoholic, Chained smoked Cigars for most of his love and was obese, he made it to 91 years old.
Other Valyrian ppl are more interesting imo high or low i dont really care🙄
Which I not be anytime soon 😂😂😂😂😂
Seems like flimsy writing to me. The dragon lords in Lys and Tyrosh were just killed along with their dragons?
Wasn't the first killing of a dragon in westeros a VERY big deal? And the Targs were a lesser dragon family. So they would assumingly have lesser dragons.
How did a bunch of commoners in Lys kill dragons? Do they have scorpions in Essos? If dragons and their master's were that easy to kill, the valyrians would have never ruled anything
Watched many of your videos but I still haven't subbed. I have little difficulty understanding your words. You seem to speak a bit too fast and stumble often on your words. I hope you improve in your speaking form because you have vast knowledge of our fave show. Please dont take this negatively.
Good video. Please stop skipping syllables. Take your time to properly pronounce what you say.
Perhaps he has a speech impediment? Maybe it's a language barrier? Please, take your namesakes point & *disappear*
You forgot about house Sunglass
"Fire and blood" almost here ;)
