DIY simulator steering wheel and pedals

  • Hey! I am not a huge game fan, but sometimes I play with the DIRT Rally and some other games, so it was the motivation for me to design and build this wheel and pedals. In the future I am going to make a video about the building process. Furthermore I want to design and build a shifter and some other stuff too. If you interested about it, please follow me.
Some information about my wheel and pedals:
    3D CAD pictures:
    drive.google.c...
    Based on this software:
    www.xsimulator...
DC motor: Denso 45200 05271 from a Toyota
    Power supply: 12V, 40A
I used 2 BTS 7960 motor driver in parallel
    Drive ratio: 4:1 with HTD-5M (25 mm width, pulleys: 60 and 15)
    Encoder: OMRON E6B2-CWZ1X
    - Mainly I used aluminium for the frame and steel for the shafts.
    - I wanted to use the least amount of cable, so I used slip rings for the shifter paddles and the buttons on the wheel. With this solution does not any limit the number of wheel rotation.
    - It can produce more than 20 Nm torque on the wheel.
The paddle shifters: Yes I know, in this video there are in a wrong place. When I made this video it was among the first tests and I have never used a paddle shifters earlier and this layout seemed comfortable to me.
Later I changed the layout to the standard.
Thank you for the reading and watching! :)

tomthomas21 oh no I’m sorry I didn’t mean to the cent I was like roughly speak g what would it cost in materials I’m guessing by time You factor in the man hours you could buy the highest end wheel available and most likely still come out on top at least for me and I’d assume you judging by the quality of your work you make enough that the shear amount of research time it’s not a financial advantage to build your own sim wheel but it would be a fun project ! But thank you and I will watch that when you make that video it would be interesting to see a build time lapse and explanation of what the processes are for sure you did a beautiful job for diy I’m not a expert by no means on sim steering wheels but the construction looked very nice and the input and feedback system was impressive .
Do you have to have a software or driver that you also programmed to interface it into the pc? That is as impressive as the wheel itself even in my eyes !

I thought DIY meant Cardboard and stuff, you built a steering wheel that looks like its factory made!

Hello. Well done. But please explain. As you have the encoder crossed with the steering shaft ? How is the recoil motor crossed and what is it used for from what ?

With that torque, you will have to learn to hold the wheel military-style or lose your thumbs LOL. Amazing piece of work.

Do you have the recipe/ spreedsheet/ plans?
How much torque ur engine produce's?
The Logitech G29 pedal set inverted can be used to make ur pedal setup?
I'm. Asking because I swapped the G29 base engines for 1 with 10Nm torque, also changed the gears from plastic to steel to negate the plastic gears imperfections/ degradation.
I just don't feel good about buying a steering wheel when you can make ur own.
    FANTASTIC job! 10/10
    :)
It blows my mind how clean the wiring and the steering wheel base looks ....im genuinely shocked .
