ngl ive been doing it, although I got the base 14 I am so happy that we finally have our ports back and a thicker body. I haven't felt this laptop turn on its fan or ever feel like it gets warm. To be fair I haven't done anything intense enough to warrant excessive heat but programming on my old xps used to make the fans kick on instantly. I really love the unibody on the MacBook and I keep caressing it subconsciously lol
@@FRAMEDSKATEKREW69 Hey bruh. Can you please drop a quick feedback on how your base 14 inch Macbook works while programming? I'm trying to decide between the base 14 inch and the mid 16 inch. The price difference is quite a lot but if 14 inch base isn't good enough to handle multiple IDEs + handful of browser tabs + a simulator + a few background processes, then it ain't worth it.
Sadly… I was almost choking when HDMI 2.0 was introduced… Hell. Even USB C Sticks are still slow AF. They are advertising speeds of 500MB/S, and I barely get 60 - 70 MB/S if I am lucky. :-(
On repair, it's not great still, but improved little a bit. The battery now has pull tabs and is easier to replace (don't need to remove the logic board). All the ports are on detachable and replaceable boards, which is nice.

It’s been said so many times by so many comments, but I feel I have to say it again. Anthony is my favourite TH-cam host, he’s just being himself and clearly is extremely knowledgeable about tech, that together with his honesty is great.
@@Blaze_Gamez I’ve been using it for a while now and runs great especially with all the storage my softwares take up. At a general standpoint I’d recommend you build your own pc but for my scenario I needed to run apple for my software
I bought one of the 16" 10/16 M1 Pro models. This thing is one of the best laptops I've seen in a long time. The battery life is absurd. It's got a good keyboard, trackpad, and screen. It's plenty fast, especially given the efficiency and battery life. Having a full HDMI is super useful. MagSafe is lovely. It's not the lightest, but it's not that heavy relative to the size. I really wish there were Windows laptops that could measure up to these. No Windows laptop I've ever seen or heard of has this battery life while being this snappy.
Watching something in HDR on the new macbooks is a treat especially how seamless it is! And the spatial audio is pretty insane as well (need to listen to something other than crab rave - movies are pretty great).
@@2youn8 I tend to justify it as a practical purchase because I do a lot of high resolution, multiple-stream editing and gfx intensive after effects renders. However, as a bonus, it helps that it’s a brilliant mobile consumption device.

Apple finally made a professional machine by default, with more speed and more memory than most people will ever need for $3499. Thanks, Tim Cook. Keep up the good work. Now I need to save up enough money to buy the one with all the bells and whistles which is around $5600

I honestly wanted to love these new laptops but they are overpriced and will be beat by alder lake's New mobile proc. I cannot justify the cost because having a Mac is cool.
They are expensive, that is very true. But in most departments, they simply have no competition. I mean the display, trackpad, speakers, build quality...
1:35 I don’t know if Winshit will install but parallels + windows does work on the M1, so I’d presume that it’ll work for this. I have no idea if that’s a beta windows build or the performance, but it should
Hey, just wanted to say that you can actually use both windows and Linux on the M1 Macs, not natively of course but through VMs. I use Windows 11 and Kali Linux on a daily basis using parallels. Granted it is not the best VM software but it gets the job done and I haven't been limited until now !
For me, performance was so bad it barely launched cinebench to check how slow it was (I was genuinely worried of how slow it was, thinking something might be wrong, but apparently that was how slow the M1 is in VMs)
@@bashendriks4211 Doubt, I just installed regular windows on arm on parallels and gave it 4 cores and 8 gigs of ram, I don't see the problem on my end.
Love this video. I do wonder why you compared the speakers between the XPS and the Macbook, but not the webcams. Dell managed to fit a camera into a tiny bezel, but if I am not mistaken the camera quality is much poorer compared to the Macbook. That's why I feel like the notch, for now, is a good compromise between small bezels, and maintaining decent camera quality IMO.
Got to love Apple's business model, can't deny that they're geniuses at marketing, Good thing is that there's going to be a new standard for Laptop build quality.
Owning a laptop is like own a watch, or a phone. Looks matter. People usuall don't want to be associated with ugly watches, laptops or pretty much anything.
Only thing they screwed up is the notch and curved corners. Not saying its wrong for apple to do it but it does not mean all the other future companies have to do it because Apple did it.
They have always been the standard in build quality… other thing is if they were overpriced, or not powerful enough, or missing ports or whatever. But build quality has always been top notch
Great overview! One thing to look out for is how fast WiFi is! I hear that it only has two spatial streams for 802.11ac so the top speed of the Internet is lowered than the Intel-based ones.
10:40 Anthony is going all poetic on us. "I want to see how it sounds" . I want to feel how it tastes, I want to smell how it .... lights up it´s Li-Ion battery when I let it run with the lid closed ;-)
I just have to say, Anthony is like a solid 1/4 of the reason why I decided to buy an m1 pro macbook like, 10 minutes ago. I've just finally told myself it's time to succumb to the apple eco-system in my personal life. I use windows day in and day out in my gaming and business life, but just for day to day use I think this is gonna be a very humble switch.
I wouldn't call them cheap by any means, but also considering the current atmosphere we're in, they're at least justified now considering the raw performance you're getting (not just in terms of the processing, but in every other aspect like the speakers, webcam, mics, display, the build quality, trackpad, keyboard, etc. etc.).
They will prob do an Ltt video for those they spend like 20-30k on those laptops (they bought like 7 or 8) they can’t afford to make just 1 video, they are planning on making multiple
This man needs a pay rise, fuck the truth is so rare to hear these days! Doesn’t give two twats about sponsors just genuinely reviewing a product!! Love the Linus team!
Actually, I think Anthony might be really interesting in terms of small talk. I don’t “need” one, but I’m really tempted to get a 16” MBP because they’re so damned nice. It’s good that Apple is finally starting to get over Jony Ive’s obsession of design over function.
Peopel out here complaining about HDMI 2.1, when they literally can’t realize the reason they didn’t make it 2.1 is because they already have 3 thunderbolt 4 ports, which can each run a 6K display…. 2.1 can only do 4K btw.
The speaker magic Apple pulls off in their laptops is just astounding. Like you compare the XPS to other laptops and it's soooo good, but put it next to a MBP and the XPS will sound like straight trash in comparison.
Yeah, you are right, I wish other laptop manufacturers would catch up (but I use my headphones 99% of the time so it doesn't really matter to me). I just can't justify spending that much money for speakers when you can get a faster laptop for almost half the cost.
The issue with menu bar items going behind the notch only really exists with third-party apps that add wider-than-typical icons (like iStat Menus). Normal square-ish icons don't seem to have a problem. For those curious, menus from the left will wrap around to the other side of the notch if there isn't enough space. Icons from the right will hard-stop at the notch. It won't display more icons after it hits that boundary, which is a little inconvenient if you've got a lot of apps that add stuff and don't use a utility like Bartender.

True but dbrand also leans heavily into their pricing with marketing copy like "give us your money" and "toxic electric tape".

Anthony gently caressing that Macbook Pro.
ngl ive been doing it, although I got the base 14 I am so happy that we finally have our ports back and a thicker body.
God I wish that were me being caressed
@@FRAMEDSKATEKREW69 Hey bruh. Can you please drop a quick feedback on how your base 14 inch Macbook works while programming? I'm trying to decide between the base 14 inch and the mid 16 inch. The price difference is quite a lot but if 14 inch base isn't good enough to handle multiple IDEs + handful of browser tabs + a simulator + a few background processes, then it ain't worth it.

I love Anthony and everything he touches is gold.
but can he touch me ;(
Maximum brown-nosing ^^
The hdmi port is probably mostly for teachers plugging in to projectors and what not. Hardware like that likely isn’t going thunderbolt anytime soon.
Sadly… I was almost choking when HDMI 2.0 was introduced… Hell. Even USB C Sticks are still slow AF. They are advertising speeds of 500MB/S, and I barely get 60 - 70 MB/S if I am lucky. :-(
that's really funny, did you say it like Norm McDonald? I read it like Norm McDonald.
then you would just buy a base model and a dongle
This IS the MacBook we've been waiting for. Finally upgrading my 2015 machine and happy I never had to go to dongle town.
On repair, it's not great still, but improved little a bit. The battery now has pull tabs and is easier to replace (don't need to remove the logic board). All the ports are on detachable and replaceable boards, which is nice.
That’s great to hear that Apple is moving in that direction as well!
@@chrissieblossom i wouldn't mind an unpopulated m.2 or ram slot.
the main drive and main ram can remain integrated, but you could still upgrade

I really enjoy LMG's love/hate relationship with dbrand. It's entertaining and the sarcasm is light and refreshing.
I love Anthony “they didn’t pay me” 😂😂

Yep, if you want to use a good monitor it has 3 thunderbolt 4 ports
Seeing that Anthony warmed up to being on camera is my favorite thing this year
Why?
@@JKStone234 It is enjoyable to watch someone come out of a shell and become comfortable and real in front of millions of people. I'm more extroverted than I am introverted, but I couldn't even begin to imagine being THIS comfortable in front of camera. You get a chance to see their real personality. It’s been said so many times by so many comments, but I feel I have to say it again. Anthony is my favourite TH-cam host, he’s just being himself and clearly is extremely knowledgeable about tech, that together with his honesty is great.
The speakers on this laptop are truly insane that was the first really good feature I noticed. I recommend this laptop

"They didnt pay me though." -- Anthony asserting dominance!
Watching something in HDR on the new macbooks is a treat especially how seamless it is! And the spatial audio is pretty insane as well (need to listen to something other than crab rave - movies are pretty great).
If people are buying these things for documents and entertainment, I don't even know what do say.
Not implying you're one of them of course
@@2youn8 I tend to justify it as a practical purchase because I do a lot of high resolution, multiple-stream editing and gfx intensive after effects renders. However, as a bonus, it helps that it’s a brilliant mobile consumption device.
Gotta say, for all the flaws and criticisms I've had about Apple over the years their last few products and the whole M1 line of has been consistently amazing.
@Burhan Abdulali lol poor u
@Burhan Abdulali ahh yes, the mark of a great earbud: muddy and bloated bass with a recessed treble and tight soundstage.
@@shaangrewal5071 Out of all the great apple products, he chose the one that probably is the worst.
also the apple watch is still the absolute king of the smartwatch market even after years and years on the market
@@girlsdrinkfeck The Airpod Pros are the best when it comes to convenience. Music-wise it’s definitely not the best but everything else it’s the best along with the WF Sonys.
Anthony is hands down one of my favorite reviewers.
I like that while he does have his own preferences, he carries himself with as much objectivity as one can. He seem to understand and respect the choices by other, all while not having to caveat any opinions or criticisms.
@@robertt9342 spot on! He has is preferences, but is honest about when companies make a change. This review really showed that. Anthony deserves a raise.
Apple finally made a professional machine by default, with more speed and more memory than most people will ever need for $3499. Thanks, Tim Cook. Keep up the good work. Now I need to save up enough money to buy the one with all the bells and whistles which is around $5600
This MacBook really hyped me up, it's finally something that apple does just Great! + My expectations were so low, when they started throwing the data I was blown away 🤯
@Silver Surfer what lmao, what kind of fantasy land are you living in.
I cant wait to start using his face as a GIF "Give me the shinnies!"

Watching this on the 14 inch makes me feel so lucky that I found one in stock so early :-)
Same brother, I love the 14 inch, perfect size for me.
“It’s an expensive sticker and I’m not sure that I like it” LOL!!
1:35 I don’t know if Winshit will install but parallels + windows does work on the M1, so I’d presume that it’ll work for this. I have no idea if that’s a beta windows build or the performance, but it should
when anybody from linus' team says something good about Apple, you know it really, really good.
@@igameidoresearchtoo6511 That's odd, because Parallels even plays game on my M1 MacBook Air. The performance is very very respectable imo.
@@ivanmalinovski7807 Dude it's worse than my 2009 rig, I'm not joking
@@igameidoresearchtoo6511 you probably messed up somewhere.
Yo, I'm dying at the "Give me the Shiny" cut 🤣

One of the few videos that actually show the speakers sound. Thank you
Got to love Apple's business model, can't deny that they're geniuses at marketing, Good thing is that there's going to be a new standard for Laptop build quality.
Owning a laptop is like own a watch, or a phone. Looks matter. People usuall don't want to be associated with ugly watches, laptops or pretty much anything.
And geniuses at chip design. Forget build quality, there's going to be a new standard for laptop performance-per-watt
@@ryanw8664 agreed !!
I'm so excited with this new wave of RISC processors coming to laptops. This architecture also seems super promising.

7:45 i think you can fix it by using the “more space” option in the display settings
After building my own pc, im no longer interested in MacOS, BUT im always interested in hearing Anthony explain things
Anthony, you're just great man
Great overview! One thing to look out for is how fast WiFi is! I hear that it only has two spatial streams for 802.11ac so the top speed of the Internet is lowered than the Intel-based ones.
That explains the lower Wi-Fi speeds on my 16"
10:40 Anthony is going all poetic on us.
Only watched this because of Anthony. Love this dude
I am amazed at how cheap these new MacBooks are considering everything we're getting
Guess that’s what you get when you aren’t paying the Intel tax!
a tablet on steroids?
I wouldn't call them cheap by any means, but also considering the current atmosphere we're in, they're at least justified now considering the raw performance you're getting (not just in terms of the processing, but in every other aspect like the speakers, webcam, mics, display, the build quality, trackpad, keyboard, etc. etc.).
£2k cheap for a binned cpu and 14. Inch screen?!! Ok
I nate the tiny keyboard on the 16"
It looks so out of place
I love how Alex is just "Man With Mask on" in the subtitle
2:22 is the reason Anthony keeps me subscribed.
Anthony as the host automatically makes the video fun and interesting to watch !

@@SpunkyGo0se the amount of brown nosing on this channel for anything is nothing short or extremely strange
Yes sir loving these new macs you also got to review the m1 max versions Anthony sir
11:27 I really don't think Apple has replaced their pentalobe screws with Torx ones, but I'm up for a surprise.
Anthony should start a Blue Light Protection product range, his skin is so "smoothened".
Now this is a pro MacBook! Even though Jony Ive was a great designer, I really think that he held things back when everything was really thin.
He is still designing for Apple tho. As a contractor
Actually, I think Anthony might be really interesting in terms of small talk.
I don’t “need” one, but I’m really tempted to get a 16” MBP because they’re so damned nice. It’s good that Apple is finally starting to get over Jony Ive’s obsession of design over function.
This is the best review ever. This host is awesome!! He talks to the camera as if you're sat in a pub and just chilling. Very natural. A+++
Anthony is by far the best presenter on LTT - so knowledgeable and points to correct features to look at and understand as a user.
Peopel out here complaining about HDMI 2.1, when they literally can’t realize the reason they didn’t make it 2.1 is because they already have 3 thunderbolt 4 ports, which can each run a 6K display…. 2.1 can only do 4K btw.
That’s not true, HDMI 2.1 runs 8k60 or 4K120
@@Clangdon0148 But 2.1 on most laptops is not rated for higher than 4K
Anything with Anthony in it I watch even if I’m not interested. He’s just cool and funny.
Dbrand must have loved that plug. “Expensive sticker”
This LMG-dbrand banter is just absolutely golden❤️
Apple’s photos really don’t do these guys justice. They look so much better here than on the website, you can really see their shape.
Seems like Jony Ive leaving apple was very beneficial for their products
It seems so
He would never have a notch on the display lmao or a massive chin on imac
@@girlsdrinkfeck Actually, that's the machine his company worked with Apple on...
@@girlsdrinkfeck He's designed all of the imac's.. ever. Technically even the new one.
@61 Cygni if he designed the Z fold he would make u use the smart watch app to open the hinge lmao
Thank you Anthony, been looking forward to your review
The issue with menu bar items going behind the notch only really exists with third-party apps that add wider-than-typical icons (like iStat Menus). Normal square-ish icons don't seem to have a problem.
For those curious, menus from the left will wrap around to the other side of the notch if there isn't enough space. Icons from the right will hard-stop at the notch. It won't display more icons after it hits that boundary, which is a little inconvenient if you've got a lot of apps that add stuff and don't use a utility like Bartender.
I love Anthony's presentation style - he's fantastic.
