Idk folks, I liked it! Fun effects, entertaining story, and clever use of mythical creatures and characters. Plus watching Santa deliver presents was a really unique way to show a geared up, badass Santa doing his thing. Maybe not a top tier movie, but a really enjoyable experience to have on the tv while wrapping presents and sipping cocoa. Sure it has its problems, but in this overly analytical world where every piece of media released is picked apart, dissected, evaluated, re-evaluated, attacked, praised, etc it’s just kind of nice to see an original idea get a big budget and turn out pretty good for a holiday joyride.
I completely disagree. Yes people are busier with stuff at home but I think a mix of poor reviews, bad marketing, theaters being expensive to go to and "The Rock" fatigue added up to not a lot of interest in the movie. I personally think it would have preformed badly even if they waited a weekend or two.
@@TheRod187 yeah wouldn't have hurt but then again that's mostly the problem now they thought people would likely drop everything to watch red one on the weekend
Imagine if they took the $200 million they spent on this and gave $2 million to 100 young independent directors to fund their first feature film. How many amazing unique movies we’d get. Instead we get one giant nothing burger.
Yep. And of those 100 movies, a few might have been surprise hits. The Hollywood execs need to understand that people are actually drawn to original ideas and filmmakers with a vision and are tired of focus-group pap.
The biggest reason why it didn’t make as much money as it possibly could is because it launched in November before Thanksgiving!!! As somebody that actually went to the movie theater and seen it, can tell you it was actually pretty good. Many of the people here giving negative opinion about it clearly didn’t see it. It’s one of those cases of people reviewing a movie that they didn’t watch. If half of the people that have a negative opinion about this movie actually went to see it. It would be the most successful movie of all time making $10 trillion dollars lol
It bombed because a christmas movie, to be successful and even a classic, has to have heart, wit, humor, and re-watchability. It also has to have a plot that's timeless and somewhat relatable, and characters we can relate to or just like.
Definitely. Look at National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Elf, Bad Santa, Jingle all the Way, Home Alone, The Santa Claus - plus the old claymation movies - all very different, all very re-watchable. As an adult with no kids, I'm not going to go watch a giant cgi bear and The Rock... who is this movie even for?
I'm getting tired of seeing him in EVERYTHING. People are on Jack Black about over saturation of a brand. Why aren't they talking about Dwayne Johnson in the same way?

I do not think The Rock loves acting or being in film like they do. They treat it like it is a privilege to be in films. The budget WAS insane! That's part of the problem with movies like this flopping hard. They just go out of control. One the other hand we have a completely different type of holiday movie The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, produced on the mere 10 million dollar budget, that, while not a huge hit, has been a moderate success, and most who have seen that movie have loved it.
I never understood why the rock became a thing. Let alone a “movie star” I wouldn’t even waste time streaming this for free in my house as background while I do stuff around the house let alone go to the movies. My kids don’t want to see it nor my wife. Who went to see this is the better question as to why it flopped.
If you watch it on streaming you can watch it numerous times. If you go to a theater you pay a lot of money just to walk through the door. Then if you want to go again, pay more? Too expensive. As far as movie critics, I really don't pay attention to them. They are biased .They only like certain genres anyway. I haven't seen the movie yet. Since I am not having a Thanksgiving ( nothing new) I suppose that could be a possibility for me.

Weird take... Super hero fatigue is largely not real. What audiences are fatigued about is, we used to get tons of great, well written and well acted super hero movies that had the purpose of entertaining the audience. Then we started getting loads of poorly written, poorly cast, poorly acted super hero movies whose purpose was Shoehorned Inorganic Diversity. THAT is what people got sick of. As far as this movie goes... It just seems generic. For me, I honestly thought this was a strait to streaming movie that came out a year ago, as thats where I saw advertisements for it. It just looked like another one of those top star strait to streaming vanity projects. A mediocre concept and written movie that happens to have big name star in it as its sole draw. Meant to fill out streaming catalogs. Beyond that... The Rocks movies are becoming very samey now. He plays basically the same character in every movie. This? The only difference is... it seems hes not in a Jungle in this one. He was great once, but no matter how great a food is, eating it for every meal gets old.
I think it flopped because of what the Rock said, comparing this Christmas movie to Oppenheimer and people taking it the wrong way. He didn’t mean in terms of context but the critical response. He doesn’t realize how bad the public perceives him now and his choice in words should be carefully selected nowadays.
If Dwayne Johnson really wants to regain some sort of credibility as an actor here’s what he needs to do: Take a couple years off Make amends with directors & actors that caught wind of his diva like attitude Get rid of the clause in his contract that says he can’t lose in a fight sequence (that’s not what makes a relatable and well-written character, Dwayne) Reevaluate why most of his latest projects have tanked (we all pretty much know why but he really needs to put his ego in check) & take on something that will actually challenge his acting abilities.
I’m shocked this didn’t flop more honestly.. it’s a month early from Christmas, the Rocks whole shtick is annoying to many now and the trailers looked horrendous 💀
So you're saying he's a typical action star. Most muscular action stars basically play the same role in every one of their movies. It never hurt Arnold, Stallone, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, etc.
It's a good movie. Everything outside of the Rock in my opinion final fight could have used some work but otherwise they did not that bad. I give it a 6 out of 10 though because the rock takes up so much screen time that it's hard to understand or get attached to most of the characters and their story lines
I took my boys to it they wanted to see it because of Santa and they both loved it, it was a decent action movie something new so it honestly isn't as bad as a lot of ppl are saying. A lot of haters out there that haven't even seen it just hating on it. Go watch it before you judge it. It isn't anything crazy good but it's a good action movie for what it is
Thank you. Opening BO for movies released around Xmas can be eratic. It's hard to predict the fooliwing days' BO. Unlike Thanksgiving, Xmas and NY land on different days of the week each year.Thee Xmas holidays span up to 12 days versus Thanksgining with just four. Both Avatars starting out slowly and were released around Xmas.
Why don't reviewers address the snowman in the living room? Dwayne Johnson can't act. He is also in so many films that he is living the Jude Law experience, being in too many movies that don't matter, but adding that Johnson is boring when he isn't moving and insufferable when he is talking.
I agree that The Rock is definitely not a good actor for sure but I think also that can be forgiven to an extent if your heart is in the right place. I compared Bruce Willis and Nicolas Cage to The Rock and what I think separates them from him. I think they look at acting as a true privilege while The Rock takes it all for granted. Willis and Cage were definitely in countless movies many of which you never heard of and some of the worst scripts you have ever seen. They do it because they truly love it. The Rock does not and it shows.
@bryanmahoney3434 Nic Cage did those horrible movies because he got into trouble with the IRS, he had to do it. Johnson is doing it because he thinks every movie he does is going to be gold.
Rock was like: “Uuuu, you know what?! I’m going to get Marvel superhero movies (because they’re in demand), add a Christmas theme-because it always sells-and mix all this together. Plus, I’m gonna be in it! Of course, it will work. Jesus Christ, I think I just created the best freaking milking machine. OMG, I’m a genius. You’re too good, buddy. Oh yeah, looking goooood, baby!” (His ego staring at the mirror.) Some things get old, even you Rock! go away with dignity, whatever is left in there
The Rock is just a B-List supporting actor at best, but wrongly believes he’s a movie star. I’ll never forgive him for the Shazam & Black Adam fiasco. He sure changed the hierarchy of power away from his favor.
It “bombed” cause of timing(not coming out in December), the trailer looked overly campy, and they didn’t have a lot of faith in it(didn’t promote it well). Clearly this was a bomb that was made to be a fun famliy run and came out a little too early cause it didn’t want to take on sonic 3.
Arguably it releasing in December would be even worse. It's not going to gain attraction from younger audiences because Sonic 3 releases and it's not going to gain attraction from older audiences because Sonic 3 releases both of them are the same answer because the hype of Sonic 3 is insane and It most likely would have just bombed even more
I think the issue with Red One is that people know its going to be on streaming services before christmas, Why pay the extra cash when you can just wait for it? me and my sister want to see it but we said "lets wait til its on streaming" Also Superhero fatigue isnt a thing, its so annoying when people say it, Deadpool and Wolverine did well because it gave its audience exactly what people wanted, a well written story about a character we love! Madame Web didnt do well because its a spider man universe character without spider man, also Madame Web isnt a very popular character and the story sucked. The Marvels didnt do well because it was about a character that only did well in her first movie because it was sandwiched between two big avengers movies, and The Marvels didnt really feel like it had anything to do with the MCUs current story of Kang, which at the time was the next big bad. Second Joker movie didnt do well because they changed Harley Quinn first off, and it was a musical, plus the directors have said they didnt want to do the movie so they made it bad so they wouldnt get asked for a 3rd. Which sucks because I liked the first Joker, but lets face it, at the minute DC movies do bad because no one knows whats going on with the DCEU as a whole. I enjoyed Black Adam, but the whole movie your wondering "ok so where does this tie in with The Flash, and Superman? will they make a cameo?" well thats my rant over haha.
I feel Evans is just cruising along and taking roles that seem fun to him which is completely fine because we all know how good he can be in his roles. Rock here however, does seem to make people go the other way when his name comes up in a film these days.
Putting that type of budget behind a Christmas themed movie was the worst decision. The Rock tends to overestimate his star power...like people will watch anything if he is in it. Christmas movies rarely do that well in general but trying to recoup a $250+ budget? Highly unlikely
Why do you think "Red One" flopped?

The reason was because Friday was the Tyson fight, Saturday Jon Jones fought, and Sunday is for football. They just picked a bad weekend to open.
That I believe. They should have waited til December
Yep
Uh sure yeah. That's totally why it flopped. 😏
Red one is a great Christmas movie for kids.
Yeah, we would have a whole bunch of movies that nobody would watch because most independent movies are trash
So are you saying explosions and long drawn out chases aren’t art
I agree!!"
No it doesn't have to be warm-fuzzy. You Sawfty.
Die Hard rings a bell to ya
@@DZA3051 Die Hard isn't a christmas movie. It's an action movie that takes place around christmas time. At least they had a more centralized themeq
This looked like a "shiny turd", just from the trailers.
Yeah but it only looked like that because it was one.
The Rock needs to go home
I'm getting tired of seeing him in EVERYTHING. People are on Jack Black about over saturation of a brand. Why aren't they talking about Dwayne Johnson in the same way?
Totally agree 1000%
I don't get the obsession with Dewayne... He's so boring to look at
@@sew_gal7340 He's moderately attractive and well built. He got a name by being having a humble background and personality. News of his true behavior on sets and changing scripts to suit his own ego have been gaining traction and turning people off of him. I thought he was an ok actor but not amazing enough to be getting the work he has been getting.
For good
Agree with 99% of what the folks ahead of me are saying.
1. Tired of him playing himself and calling it acting.
2. See #1
Also, Lucy Liu's box office draw power seems to have peaked with "Kill Bill", which happened 20 years ago.
The big budget blockbusters need to go altogether for a while. There is such a ridiculous overreliance on CGI for years now. Especially after the pandemic people are just not going to movies like they used to. We need to get to more practical effects and focus on acting and actual script writing. There is such a laziness now when it comes to that. I do think that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be a smash success next month but after that I judt dont see how you justify risking 200 plus million on any film moving forward if you are these studio's
Lets not forget they are coming out with Live action snow white. Where all the dwarves will be cgi.
People are over "the Rock". He had his moment in Hollywood.
I miss when Hollywood would find unknown talent. Instead of putting the same five to six people in ALL the main character rolls!
Super Hero Fatigue and everyone starting to get sick and tired of the Rock, who sucks
Truth💯💯💯
Ppl who say the rock always plays the same character just aren't paying attention. Sometimes he has facial hair.
Dwayne got paid so he doesn't care if it flops or not.
I feel like hes gonna start seeing movie roles dry up.
@@austindrake4697dude will become like Nicholas Cage
@@tapinewoods3937 I have so much respect for Nicolas Cage and Bruce Willis for that matter. They took any and every role available. Including some of the worst scripts ever written for their caliber as actors. What endears them I think as opposed to someone like The Rock is they did it because they truly love it. I do not think The Rock loves acting or being in film like they do. They treat it like it is a privilege to be in films. I also think the Ryan Reynolds story on the set of Red Notice was severely damaging to The Rock's reputation in Hollywood. That also confirmed suspicions about the fallout with Vin Diesel many had.
@@tapinewoods3937 he is threating his projects to much like products ... the passion is not there anymore, dude is even famous for being late ALL the time. Heck if he did pointy ears and a wig for Black Adam.. would of been proof he put some real effort into the so called "passion" project that dragged out over a decade.
@@austindrake4697 Yeah, the Rock as Black Adam, jeez, yeah that was something. He basically ruined the potential of getting a movie with shazam fighting Black Adam like we fans deserved. I get your point dude. Seriously, the Rock is falling down.
People are tired of the rock in every movie..when the trailer came out I was watching it and I soon as I saw him in it...I immediately thought no a will not see this movie.
I think red one, like a lot of modern-day Christmas movies fail because Christmas has been reduced to a background character and it's just an afterthought in these movies.
1. Dumb name.
2. Came out too early.
3. Sick of the Rock.
4. Dumb premise
Named after Santa posters of Santa Santa disappears for the whole movie and pretty much gets 2 minutes of screen time and for most of those he doesn't even talk this movie based everything around the claws but we get to see him for the last 5 minutes of the movie in the beginning 5 minutes
Jason Statham and the Rock always play as themselves in almost every movie they make
I never understood why the rock became a thing. Let alone a “movie star” I wouldn’t even waste time streaming this for free in my house as background while I do stuff around the house let alone go to the movies. My kids don’t want to see it nor my wife. Who went to see this is the better question as to why it flopped.
There is no "super hero" fatigue. There is only bad movie fatigue, and this was bad.
I think people are just fed up of the rock in every single movie playing the same character everytime.
The Rock is the main reason it flopped . The Rock is THE jump the shark guy for the movie business .
I don't see how a family can afford to go to a theater. I'd rather wait to watch at home.
It is a decent film. The characters are decent as well. It has action, a message that people can change to be better people and its a fun film. It is not convoluted or babyish. The Rock was decent in it as well. It has a good cast.
There is no superhero fatigue. We have terrible move fatigue
I'm going to wait till the movie is on demand to judge for myself
That fact that you want to watch it is insane
@DeadPiixxel Better than going to the theaters to see it.
@@DeadPiixxelit had its moments. I give it a 6. Some of it was fun. Some of it wasn’t
@@DeadPiixxel A lot of these "bad" movies, are at most middle of the road movies. Why they generate so much hate is ridiculous at the end of the day.
A lot of people mad they saw a meh movie, after spending $30+ to go see it. I will wait like I do for all movies, watch it at home and not feel bad about seeing a middle of the road movie.
@@DeadPiixxel A lot of people like 'turn your brain off' low-brow trash. Remember, this is the same society that thought electing a convicted felon moron was a good idea.
I won't go see it at the movies because im poor. But I will stream it when it hits . It looks fun and I love Chris Evans
I wonder if the movie flopping has anything to do with the stars of the movie lecturing us at every turn about how we should vote?
I think it flopped because of what the Rock said, comparing this Christmas movie to Oppenheimer and people taking it the wrong way. He didn’t mean in terms of context but the critical response. He doesn’t realize how bad the public perceives him now and his choice in words should be carefully selected nowadays.
Another movie where Dwayne Johnson plays himself.
You included the one Tyson punch that had me hoping for the fight, only for Tyson to realize he was supposed to not win.
If Dwayne Johnson really wants to regain some sort of credibility as an actor here’s what he needs to do:
Take a couple years off
Make amends with directors & actors that caught wind of his diva like attitude
Get rid of the clause in his contract that says he can’t lose in a fight sequence (that’s not what makes a relatable and well-written character, Dwayne)
Reevaluate why most of his latest projects have tanked (we all pretty much know why but he really needs to put his ego in check) & take on something that will actually challenge his acting abilities.
I’m shocked this didn’t flop more honestly.. it’s a month early from Christmas, the Rocks whole shtick is annoying to many now and the trailers looked horrendous 💀
I absolutely adored this film! Got to see it in theaters today and I loved every minute ❤❤❤
I personally avoid anything with the rock in it these days
I saw this in theaters last Friday, and it was great.
Is it because people are sick and tired of seeing Dwayne Johnson play the Rock in every movie he does?
So you're saying he's a typical action star. Most muscular action stars basically play the same role in every one of their movies. It never hurt Arnold, Stallone, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, etc.
I love how they can never admit that the movie sucks and they just have to find some other reason as to why the movie flopped.
Because it looks like a straight to streaming movie
Red one is a good movie, but movie budgets are getting out of control. Therefore, making the expection of the movie either a bust or profit.
It isn't anything crazy good but it's a good action movie for what it is
Should have been a streaming only movie
One reason it has the rock
He can act better than you.
Jude law take so many breaks and does movies after 3 years
@@bryanmahoney3434I definitely wouldn't compare the rock to Bruce Willis or nick cage
@bryanmahoney3434 Nic Cage did those horrible movies because he got into trouble with the IRS, he had to do it. Johnson is doing it because he thinks every movie he does is going to be gold.
I just watched it. It was really fun! 😊
The hierarchy of Flop is with the Rock 🪨
I think it didn't do well because people are tired of seeing the Rock.
No matter what people say, Red One is still my new favorite Christmas movie 🎄✊
Mine too.
Why did the movie bomb? The Trailer said it all. Dwayne Johnson was in it. He's bad luck for movies since Hobbs n Shaw
Most of us are too broke in this thriving economy to take the family to the movies.
Truth 🌟💯💯💯💯💯
Red Notice, Red One? I'm sensing a theme here.
For the last time Die Hard is a Christmas movie.😎
😅😅😅😅
Die Hard is not a Christmas movie
A Christmas movie ❌
THE Christmas movie✅
@@daudimasinde6280 🤣
It was released in mid July, so, NOT a Christmas Movie.
Oh yeah, looking goooood, baby!” (His ego staring at the mirror.)
Some things get old, even you Rock! go away with dignity, whatever is left in there
“The Rock” fatigue is a thing…
The Rock is just a B-List supporting actor at best, but wrongly believes he’s a movie star. I’ll never forgive him for the Shazam & Black Adam fiasco. He sure changed the hierarchy of power away from his favor.
Did the audience not smell what the Rock was cooking?
Oh cool. We can now watch it on Prime Video in a few weeks.
Why don't you come over and watch it with me? I'll cook
If it did come out around Christmas time it would still bomb due to the film not only being garbage but also going up against Sonic 3.
Arguably it releasing in December would be even worse. It's not going to gain attraction from younger audiences because Sonic 3 releases and it's not going to gain attraction from older audiences because Sonic 3 releases both of them are the same answer because the hype of Sonic 3 is insane and It most likely would have just bombed even more
People are generally just tired of seeing The Rock 1-dimensional acting.
My hunch is the initial popcorn rating on some movies are juiced up by people associated with the movie staff
I think the issue with Red One is that people know its going to be on streaming services before christmas, Why pay the extra cash when you can just wait for it?
me and my sister want to see it but we said "lets wait til its on streaming"
Also Superhero fatigue isnt a thing, its so annoying when people say it, Deadpool and Wolverine did well because it gave its audience exactly what people wanted, a well written story about a character we love!
I enjoyed Black Adam, but the whole movie your wondering "ok so where does this tie in with The Flash, and Superman? will they make a cameo?"
well thats my rant over haha.
I agree with all of that!
I feel Evans is just cruising along and taking roles that seem fun to him which is completely fine because we all know how good he can be in his roles.
Rock here however, does seem to make people go the other way when his name comes up in a film these days.
He keeps picking such weird roles that literally no one wants to see.
Putting that type of budget behind a Christmas themed movie was the worst decision. The Rock tends to overestimate his star power...like people will watch anything if he is in it. Christmas movies rarely do that well in general but trying to recoup a $250+ budget? Highly unlikely
How you forget Dumb and Dumber, another Christmas classic that was released during December 94'.
Die Hard is NOT A CHRISTMAS MOVIE!!!!
....IT WAS A SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER!!!!
Yes it is a Christmas movie.
I think people are tired of the Rock
Didn't Rock take 50 million for that movie alone ? Besides that Rock acts like the same guy since the scorpion king days.
I thought this was a Netflix release. I didn’t know it went to theaters 😂
Tired of the Rock never liked his movies
