Only thing I would do is provide them with a collar and silent/quiet tag with your address/phone.
That way if someone finds them, they don't think they don't have a home.
Make sure tag is quiet so they can roam around and hunt.
If you really wanted to, you could put an tracking tag on their collar so you can see where they are.

I'm so relieved some of your cats returned, they are wild and love roaming. I would love it if they'd seek shelter at night away from predators. Looking forward to them hanging around and eating rodents from the watermill, an ideal situation indeed. I have an idea for keeping the camper cooler and cutting down on rain water leakage. How about construct a pop up type structure (only covered on the top) with a sturdy roof (not just shade cloth) and you can wire it up for solar energy on top for a temporary sun/heat barrier so you guys can live cooler in your camper. I love watching your videos and looking forward to seeing all that you do, you guys are making a difference.

The cats getting out, made me so sad, but when they came back for feeding it made me happy.
Have a sweet bell when ever you’re getting ready to put food out, that way they can have a communication sound that they can easily adapt.
Best wishes with these 🐈 cats😊

Drew- get Brittany a UV flashlight. We used them living in SoCal to see critters at night. Scorpions light up awesomely well at night when the uv light shines on them - so you can see them !

Kitties are most active at dusk and at dawn. That's the best time to interact with them. Other than that, they're just sleeping somewhere and don't want to be bothered. Good luck! Love conquers all!

I have the feral cats. I’ve actually trained them to come onto my screened in porch during the winter and have a heater out there and bedding! The key is to always always always have food available to them! They can smell the food for a long ways away, and they will always come for easy food versus having to hunt! So keep the food football full, even if it’s just dry cat food! They will come back.

  • @smartgrandma
    @smartgrandma ปีที่แล้ว +5

Of course your fur babies have returned to you, but on their terms, as it should be. You both have such gentle voices and gentle ways, so you are earning their trust. Have you thought of opening up your mill to them, leaving the door open, so they can discover the mice that live in there? You can even put in a cat door for them so that they can come and go as they please. It is always a joy to see the two of you. I'm so glad that I became a patron. I wish I could afford to help you out more, but living on social security, we have to watch what we spend. But every little bit helps, right? Have a delightful week! I can't wait to see what you accomplish next. Sending you both love, prayers, and gentle hugs from Donna in Florida......

Yea two kitties are back! It would be ideal to have each of them implanted with a *cat GPS chip.* You’re going to be terribly broken hearted the day one of them doesn’t return so please consider the implant or a quiet tracking collar for peace of mind. Thanks to your kind hearts they’ll probably stick around but at least if one gets injured then you’ll know where to find him/her. 😻

The tears just spurted when you first pet the grey kitty and then the other one came also. Turning over and letting you touch their bellies means they trust you. I hope Mama made it back safely if she went. Years ago we moved 17 miles and our cat went back to our old house through an ice storm, across a highway and across two wide creeks. We have no idea how he did it or how he knew where to go. Just say your prayers that she has guides to keep her safe. Love and hugs to all

This is a true story of our cat when we moved from farm to city 23 miles away. We left the cat, Midnight on the farm as we went back on weekends. After about two months, Midnight turned up on the back steps of the house in the city. He had never been taken there. Amazing isn’t it! The cats decided you two will be their people.❤

Hi Drew and Britany. Britany sweetie, outdoor, wild, or feral cats have a keen sense of survival. How hot it was for you would not have been so hot for them as they could well be resting under bushes. Also, most learn the ability to hunt. You have made a little shade spot for them. Some things and some people are meant to roam free. But in the meantime, guys, you have a perfect outdoor sleeping area for yourselves. Although it looks like you may have realised that already, and it looked lovely with the fairy lights. Drew, you were spot on when you said about there being only so much learning you can do being on the road. There is nothing wrong with setting roots down. I travelled a lot on my own when i was younger. I am 53 and think i was late 20,s or early 30's when i set down a form or roots. I was 17 when i left home and started on my own personal journeys. I bought a dog too, who luckily could go to work with me. But it was 2010 when i found my real root base. Now i have 3 dogs, all of which are rescues. I am doing yet another online study course (i like to keep my brain occupied, esp as my dad had altzimers). Now i have some fantastic memories and photos as it was in the days when you developed your photos. I have a big " memory" box with all sorts of things in. I still have all the experiences from travelling. But now i have some stability, too. I have my dogs, my home, my garden, where i grow some veggies in raised planters, lots of bee and butterfly friendly flowers. I have trees too. I have friends nearby as well as afar. I am also able to put into practise my environmental ideals that i carried and developed further whilst travelling. The thing, that is not the best now is my health, and other than my health, i am happy and content. I think most people who travelled find a fullstop. A place to settle in. Some other people do travelling later in life. You just take the best of both into your heart. The watermill is in your soul now. I love you guys. Oh yes, both of your Portuguese has really come on leaps and bounds x

Leave their food inside the 'catery' with the door open. They'll return for their food. Keep the door propped open. They'll soon enough realize its their place... they're safe...and their food is consistently there. Give them time... consistency is the key.

Fun. Yay for happy endings. But let me tell you, if you don't already know...Wild boar are NO JOKE. They are strong and ornery... not to mention destructive. Even wild pigs, due to their size can be a threat. Maybe get some whistles or something as pigs will spook. You know what's best... and there's always Google. So happy kitties are back. Cant wait for next week!

Yes, so true. I follow a TH-cam family in France living in a Chateau in Normandy, and wild boar - pretty much overnight! - destroyed their beautifully planned garden - just dug everything up! Might want to talk to locals about how to keep them roaming wild AWAY from your property. Especially since eventually you are going to plant vegetables on our terraces.

For wild animals, you are doing good at making friends with the kittens. I would try to think of them as working animals that come and go as they please. But, I know that I’d fail miserably with that concept, because they would be my pets. I think you might be able to turn the gray talker in to a quasi pet over time. She seems most interested in that concept. Hope mommy is just living off the land and being the working cat 🐈 that she is.

I had a Siamese cat that followed me all over, and even lay beside me while I was busy in the garden. And to top it he was a talker, like your grey one😂 . Sadly he passed away. Please enjoy your kittens. Animals can't talk, so we are the voice. Oh and awesome to see the cats in the nearby home. Awesome, wow. So much caring. Cats are good cause they keep the mice away. My guess is they will be bringing you hunting presents by the fall. Question, do you guys have any trees large enough for hammocks down near your pond? They make camping/hiking hammocks with bug netting. Comfy to sleep in and might be cooler on those hot evenings/nights. Glad to see the project moving forward. Good luck and thanks for all your time.

Have you secured the back wall of the catio completely so the escape route is closed? Please consider putting their food & water in the enclosure and leaving the door open. If they can get used to the catio on their own terms, perhaps they’ll use it occasionally. They’ll need someplace dry wherever it rains. Perhaps consider creating a bench enclosure where they can huddle in colder weather. My neighbor does this for his cat and uses an infrared heater in the winter. His cat loves it so much he lays on his back and stretches out completely like he’s sunbathing. 😽

You kitties are so sweet! Cats choose their owners. Since you have provided food and shelter for them, you have welcomed them to your home. I have adopted 3 cats inside, but we had adopted another cat that decided that he didn't want to be inside. He is outside with a few other feral cats. We provide individual bed boxes for them, food and water and a sheltered area for the cold, windy winters. They wait for their breakfast and some live, but I can't leave the food out at night. It attracts raccoons, skunks and roaches, so we take the food in at night.

So glad the kitties came back. They were just doing what they did in there old home.
You two will do good with having fur babies. There are no one book on how to raise them. You did all the right things. I love kitties and you will too.
Good luck on getting the start of your home. Can’t wait to see it start. Blessings on your journey ❤️🙏🏻❤️

For some of us, not getting emotionally invested when it comes to other creatures, is impossible. We have empathy……..my heart aches for so many. It’s why we’ve decided to always adopt from shelters. Sadly, our shelters here in New Mexico are over flowing with amazing doggies and kitties who need forever homes🧡. It’s so wonderful that these kind humans feed all the “wild” kitties🧡.
Are those handlebars on the scooter not adjustable?
    “You were making it hot”……Aaaawwwwww🧡

I so enjoyed this. There is a group of feral cats that have lived under a shed in the lot behind my fenced in yard for 8 years. I have built winterized houses for them with escape doors but they will NOT enter. They come to my patio for food if they don't see me looking out the window. Trust the cats that they will be fine unless there are predators. Looks like they have learned that they are free and in a safe and caring atmosphere. Lovely prior owners!!!! How kind.

The same thing happened to me. I took in my best friends 30 cats. She paid for the pen. But, my husband would not listen to me. He insisted we get the wire fencing that was 5in by 5in opening. The one they use for cows. The cats were out of it within 2 hours. We went back to the store and bought the fencing i had picked out. They all came back. I kept them in the large pen for 2 monthes and let them out.
