Drew, there is soil behind that turret wall? Is yes, highly suggest excavation, install a very deep French type drain feature. If not, that moisture laden soil against that block wall will always wick the dampness into the house. Simply applying a waterproof material on the outside block face will not suffice. One needs to lower that water table via a deep collection drain type trough. Paperboard aka cardboard sucks up and retains moisture. Get rid of all corrugated paperboard.
I wonder if the cats would use the house if there was another exit. I know when we build outdoor winter shelters for feral cats, we need to put two exits or they won’t use it because they instinctively look for an alternate exit. The boxes under the van provide them with multiple alternatives so it feels very safe to them.
Always make sure there aren't any cats left in the container in case they fall asleep in there and get locked in. Thank you for continuing to share your journey. I love how your cats sleep under the van. They just want to stay close to you. Sending lots of love from London 🐈🙏🌻💞
We love and appreciate the time you take to make videos. Thank you for giving us a glimpse into your life journey. Great job with all you are doing! 🤗❤️
If you want the cats to use the cat house, put it on a pediststal so they can look down on the other cats. Then one of the cats will try and claim it and immediately the others will try and take it.
You both share more than your time with us. It’s knowing that I could make a change and not fail. My wife and I are interested in moving to another part of the world and you prove that, not only is it possible, it’s a new adventure that our spirits crave!! Love you both! Thank you for sharing!!
Great Video! Thanks for taking us along- Have you considered the 2 recommendations below? 1. I recommend purchasing some fairly large caster wheels (maybe 6-8 inch diameter) w/ at least 2 able to do 360 degree rotation for your shelves. Decent "rubberized" ones that could in a pinch, still do a trip on a dirt/gravel road. You never know when it's going to be very convenient to haul all the stuff stored on them, tools, fasteners, supplies, to another location all in one trip. You can also use them to make access to the back of the shelves really easy! 2. There is a concrete waterproofing product that I will keep moisture, (& more importantly Radon gas...) from seeping through your floors and walls. I'd still install a membrane vapor barrier in between any surfaces as you build out the interior, but also fortifying the brick and concrete will improve overall comfort and piece of mind! All the best, M-
I enjoy your videos. I love starting my day with your breathe in and breathe out. You are both so calm and not chaotic! One day when you start on the mill, time will fly and in no time you will be in your home! Love the kitties!
FAE (fresh air exchange) is important to growing mushrooms to avoid pathogens. Your house will need serious FAE, but you will benefit from it with clean, fresh air.
Watched this Dec 27, 2023. US TOO. Wet boxes. Boxes stored on cement floor get wet on the bottom. Two different storage unit in two different cities wicked up water through the commercially ppored smooth cement floors. We try to store boxes on 2x2 wood rails to keep the stuff of the floor, but yesterday we had two wet boxes
Thank you for sharing your life with us too. I can hardly wait to get my days work done to see how my friends on TH-cam are sharing their project’s and skills with us. Almost wish I could take a world trip and come and meet you in person but so thankful to know there are still some good motivated young people this world that are able to carry on and learn the skills of good old fashioned pioneers. Keep up the good work and keep motivating this old world for good. Love you guys❤
I normally do not watch videos like this.....yet now I find myself most curious regarding your lifestyle and choices of that life you both committed yourselves to. I am quite a bit older thwn you both & I believe wiser..... and when I tell you these life chwnging decisions like the one you made here & the ones in your future do not come easy. I look back & can say....life is a challenge & can be difficult....yet if one--in your case two.... are truly willing to take larger risks in life the incredible rewards are so wondrous. I know who you both are now ; & I do not even have to meet you to know you..... because of The old saying of "Dare to live your dreams" is being met head on & loving the life it is giving you both while doing it! Like this older man....one day...that is long away.... you will both look back on everything & you will even say or question yourselves...thinking we really did do all of these adventures? You will then learn that your biggest thrills in life came from "while doing it" instead of the accomplishment itself--- "the thrill of the chase". Much luck in all of your future endeavors --you are a spirited & talented & two-some.
Moisture: Back cut 5ft wide along the backside of the building 24" below the floor of the house and french drain 2" clean gravel coat the backside of the building with concrete barrier tar. Then backfill. $300 per load of gravel and $150 5gallon tar and 2 days excavating. If you just seal or concrete coat on the inside it'll just continue to bubble and deteriorate the coating. $150/5 gallons for that as well, 4 bags of concrete to level floors in that room. 2 rolls of construction foam for your flooring or just tile. Which classic portuguese style tile would set it off nice. Especially on the steps. So this sounds like septic, and electric are your only real challenges aside from plastering the walls and new windows. 10 rolls of 25ft electrical wire might cover the whole watermill. 120ft of 4" schedule 40 for septic, 2 500gallon tanks. Anyhow, bubblegum.
Your cats act like they are on happy sauce. If you've never had cats, you will begin to realize they like to be near you like any dog (nothing wrong with dogs), but you will also begin to observe how they want to do whatever you do. If your working, they will supervise, if you eat they want to eat. Take a nap, they will nap. Play, they will play. And finally take a bath and watch what they do. No, not hop in, but take a happy cat style bath. Such good companions.🤗😄🐱🐱🐱
Love your videos, you've done so much on your property! You are both hard workers. Please consider wearing safety glasses when drilling. We can see the metal flecks flying off while you are drilling. One could go in your eye.
You two are working so hard and making it look so good, great work! Your hard work and effort is definitely paying off. It's so wonderful watching your bond and friendship grow with the cats (and it is so cute watching them play). You are now super awesome kitty parents too!
Have been a long with your journey from the start. Very much enjoy it. I really don't care about the cats. Not afraid to say it. You both make enough content, clearly, to make viewer's happy, no need for the whereabouts of the cats. Can't wait to see you enjoy redesigning the inside of the mill.
You guys are awesome, wonderful ,nice, 15:0115:0115:0115:01 beautiful, and everything I dream to do. No doubt. Blessings. Seasons Greating. Stay there. I never text.😅
Merry Christmas and thanks for another fun adventure at the Water Mill! (Also, since you were drilling metal above the oil bottle and the bottle didn't have a cap on, I'd recommend not using it in an engine just in case some of the metal filings dropped into the container.)
I don't really say much all the time that you guys are amazing and I really like watching your programs you're doing such a great job you should be so proud of you give everybody inspiration
Maybe wrap some rope around the cork tree since the cats are using it as a scratching post or build a scratching post for them. Cats love to scratch!! My couches have suffered with my 3, but my cats' happiness is more important than a couch ! 😆 Plant some catnip near the cat house.
Beautiful work! Fun & entertaining, so inspiring for me. I recently got a few acres & am wanting to do some interesting structures, love the container idea. ✨✨🙏🏽✨✨
Good to have the lock. We have a container as a sports equipment shed at our school. The first thing the health and safety officer said was we should find a way of propping the doors open securely, because they are so heavy, if the wind caught them and they slammed shut, they could kill a child. Just saying.
I fallowed your adventures and now, your new house project in Portugal. I know, how things work in Europe since I traveled, and I have family in Portugal, Spain and Italy. Right now, Portugal is the best place to buy a property. I noticed that you are lowering you guard regarding safety. When your drilling the container doors you should wear safety glasses. Merry Christmas! and Happy new year!
Love all the work you are doing including the shipping container prep; for example drilling to install that fantastically secure lock. Please-- next time you are at the hardware store-get a good pair of safety glasses.
Happy Holidays.....I am so proud of all you have done this past year....I look forward every Sunday to find out what you have been doing...I feel like I am Great Aunt Karen, and you are family!!!❤
I don’t know if any one has mentioned it, but a moisture meter would be very handy as you renovate and build. Overall looks like you will have a spectacular new home and also great site. Gum trees as they are called in Oz ( Eucalyptus) will always be a massive danger as they explode during bushfires. Get them well away from your home.
merry xmas to you both. love your videos and cats. Please protect your eyes when working with tools. Lots of people end up with splinters in their eyes.
Container was a great job, your land looks incredible!! We all love you two because you are SO genuine & real!! 💜💙 Happy Festive Season with the lovely locals & I hope Nelson is included? 🇦🇺🍻🎄🎅🍾
The container looks great and that lock is amazing. That has been a lot of hard work but will be so good to have your things stored away and a place to do your jobs, leaving the watermill empty to be renovated. Future plans with the awnings front and side of the container sound great and makes great perfect sense. I think your out door cats and going to become normal house cats as they love their new parents. Its so wonderful to hear that your community has invited you to Christmas and New Year events. Have a great week x
A friend had a custom kitchen done a few years ago and complained about the time it took and some other little issues. I told her to hang in there because in the end she would have a kitchen like no other. She won't walk into someone's house and see her cupboards for sure.
I liked the awning idea, but was thinking that you should build a deck on top of the container, and keep the below space for a Work bench / table / saw dust area. LOL. The music choice while drilling the hole! Entertaining!
If you think your moisture on the inside is coming from the outside you’re going to need to stop the moisture from the outside. There are many types of moisture barriers you can use. Some are for underground others for above ground. Nothing you do inside with truly address the problem. Heated floors are a great idea but will not address the issue it will actually exacerbate the problem if it isn’t mitigated at the source. You’ll need good insulation on the inside since the stone is so cold. But without addressing the moisture owing in from the outside it will only get trapped behind the walls and insulation. You guys have accomplished so much in a relatively short amount of time.
If you remove the box the cats are sleping in now and put it in the new cat house with some treets. They will start sleping in there. As long as you keep there old spot, they will stay because it is formiliere and have there smell ☺ Love your chanel 🥰
You are getting theee. Can you niw start in the house or is there more to do? The kittens are getting comfortable with 1:13 y’all. They like to be where you are. . You will have to make sure where they are when you drive off or lock up. Can’t wait to see what you do next. Merry Christmas and happy new year. Blessings.
Wow you both are amazing with what you do you learn so easy i love your videos i may not say much but believe i watch your videos all the time Australia with love
We love you guys!! Next Thursday we will share our last episode of the year 😘😘
Hope you take good a break, and really enjoy your Christmas, and New Year celebrations. You deserve some fun!❤️
You work so hard!! Thank you for such perfectly edited content!! 💖
Yay!!!

Right!! They’re fast too and love to be in cozy places to hide or sleep. Discovered this with my kids cats and ‘closets’ in their bedrooms!!
Looking good but you need to get a grate for your drainage holes in the terrace and driveway before someone falls or drives into them.
We called it “King of the hill” growing up.
Some cats are tree-cats, some cats are brush cats…
Some like to be high up to look out and some like to hide and pounce
Are the cars neutered and kept bug free?
@@6spring3 Yeah. You better neuter you cars. ;-)
Great idea .. I’ve never owned cat ( doggie persons here) would never of know this😂

😻
It is absolutely amazing how much work you two have done. The land, house, shed looks great!
Safety glasses when drilling metal!
It’s so exciting that you’re getting started on the inside of the Mill! I can’t wait!
Brittany, there are zippered hanging doorways that you can use to separate areas in the container.
Yes that’s right! Used them during our hurricane clean up works last year, but I think Drew wants a more substantial permanent solution 💪
Wishing you both and those furry babies a happy Christmas and to a fabulous 2024. ❤️🇬🇧🙏
Coming along nicely
The dance was cute! I like that you give us veiws of kitties and flowers between the hard work. The kitties are so adorable.
I'm impressed, you are learning, grasshopper 🙏
I love how adventurous the kitties are getting wanting to explore everything. They seem very happy with their hard working parents 😅❤
Kitties are so funny.
Love how the kitties follow you around the land. Great job guys. That container will be safe with that lock. Love and be safe!!!🤗😘🎄🇻🇪
You can sow some special grass around your place to stabilize the ground and keep the soil intacted. Blessings

❤️💫🙏 this comment really feels good to read. Much love back.
Allways wear safety glasses when drilling metal. You really don't want sharp metal in your eyes. ❤
It's great seeing the cats playing, I think they are so entertaining to watch. They are obviously feeling at home and safe now. 👍
Merry Christmas guys and a Happy and blessed New Year!!😊

I use shelves like that in my garage for storage. They are awesome and the price is reasonable too
I'm in love with the kitties, it's a good thing you did the move in winter to avoid the very hot temperature.
I wish you the best. Take care stay safe

I think the final work on the inside of the mill will be fantastic and worth the wait!
Why not combine container cover with a solar collected?
Inch by inch it's a cinch. Yard by yard, it's hard. You are getting the storage unit completed and filled.
Who wouldn’t want you two for all the holidays! Enjoy every second of your friends. The storage shed is looking good.❤
🥰🙏✨
I hope both of you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. thanks
I am so so excited about the next phase of remodeling your living space but every video has been so entertaining!

Happy Holidays.....I am so proud of all you have done this past year....I look forward every Sunday to find out what you have been doing...I feel like I am Great Aunt Karen, and you are family!!!❤
Good job on that container! It´s perfect. Those cats are so cute...Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
You varnished your wooden walls, which I'm sure will preserve them against the weather. However, shouldn't you do the same for your wood shelfs?
We bought them already treated/laminated 🙌
When you build the awning over the container, why not make it from solar panels? Then you can make shade - and get free electricity.
I don’t know if any one has mentioned it, but a moisture meter would be very handy as you renovate and build. Overall looks like you will have a spectacular new home and also great site. Merry Christmas ~beautiful people and to the cats too! Blessings everyone🌱
🎄 many blessings ✨
On my container, I took off 1 of the poles on each door. So you only have to unlatch one pole per door to open it.
It great to see both of your work. Greetings from Switzerland
I liked the awning idea, but was thinking that you should build a deck on top of the container, and keep the below space for a Work bench / table / saw dust area. LOL. The music choice while drilling the hole! Entertaining!
Your cats are thriving in their new, beautiful territory! For occasional entertainment, get 'em some catnip! 😂 🎅🎄♥️💚🙏

Merry Christmas and happy new year.
You made a first class job of the container build it looks really good.
Home is where the heart is (emphasis on the heart)...

If you remove the box the cats are sleping in now and put it in the new cat house with some treets. They will start sleping in there. As long as you keep there old spot, they will stay because it is formiliere and have there smell ☺
Love your chanel 🥰
Major step forward ❤️❤️🎄❤️❤️
You are feeding those cats well. They are getting bigger. They are beautiful.
Wishing you both and four legged babies a very Merry Christmas 🎄 🎁 and a Happy New Year 🎉🎊🎆🎇and see y'all in 2024🤗
