@Google User I am married and we sleep in our own rooms after having a child from past 1 and a half years and it has made a huge difference in the quality of my sleep . I just cannot sleep in a room where my son sleeps. He is a very good sleeper but he twists and turn sooo much and sometimes starts speaking or shouting in his dreams and then it's soo hard for me to go back to sleep while my husband doesn't care and he just goes back to sleep immediately. My son is going to be 3 next month but he is not fine with sleeping in his own room whatsoever. 😀

I’ve been married for 10 years, and my hubby calls me the “alien pod lady” who gets in her special relaxing “pod “ at bedtime...
I can see what he means-
I use ear plugs, wear an eye mask and sleep hair cap, wear a bite guard, listen to white noise, close my black out curtains, and can only have my favorite sleep pillow. I even travel with it.
Only when all this is in place, can I fall asleep! So I can relate to this video...totally!

I live in Finland. It’s about the same lattitude as Alaska. It’s very dark here in the winter all day long and in the summer the sun barely sets. As you can imagine, this is not ideal for sleep. I have a Philips wake up light that mimics the sunrise, which helps waking up in the winter. I also have a treatment strength bright light at work which helps with the SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). Bright lights supposedly affects your hypothalamus throught your eyes and helps to control circadian rhythms and fatigue in the winter when there isn’t much daylight. Highly recomment both those lights for people with trouble waking up.

I’m a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist - Dr. Dray this talk here was more informative than most presentations I’ve seen by sleep physicians. Great points! If you are are “napping” MORE than 15-20 minutes, you are sleeping. It really messes with ones drive for sleep later, throwing off your circadian rhythm. The tip for getting out of bed when you’re not able to fall asleep, is so under appreciated! My professor once said “You want to associate you bed only with the 3’s: sleep, sex and snoring.” Everything said in this video is great to put into practice. Another tip, should you be taking a melatonin supplement (check with your doctor) - you ideally want to take it TWO hours before you actually want to sleep. I’ve had a lot of people ask me about this pillow when I’m performing their sleep studies. I’ve not been able to personally advise them one way or the other but I’ll direct them this way. Thanks for keeping all of us company - I thoroughly enjoy your daily videos!!! Take care, sending good vibes your mom’s way!

    • @jam6web84

I ordered the Sleep & Glow pillow and wanted to love it! Unfortunately after 2 weeks I am still waking up with cricks in my neck and upper back. I am a back sleeper. They do give refunds which is great, but keep in mind they do not cover the return shipment costs, so it will still cost you to try this pillow out. I'm sure it works out beautifully for others, just not for me. For reference, I am 5'9, with a long neck, and apparently a head that is slightly larger then average. I hope this comment might be helpful!

This pillow has really aged my face. After using it for almost 8 months, my cheeks are super low. This pillow also caused my jaws to clench at night in my sleep. Thus, I ended up with wider looking jaws and droopy cheeks. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PILLOW. Also, sleeping on the side with the pillow was the one of the most uncomfortable positions ever.

If you work the night shift,
    1) Sit nearby a white light source like the HappyLight or equivalent.
    2) keep all room lights on until the last 3-4 hours before you get off shift
    3) Eat regular meals
    4) cut off caffeine 8 hours before you go to bed
    5) commit to the night shift even on days off until it is over
6)wear shades when driving home from work in the mornings
    7) highly recommend a red light therapy device to sit in front of for at least 5-10 min as a bed time routine
    8) take a melatonin supplement sparingly
9)keep your bedroom dark, wear a sleep mask

There are cheaper pillows if you just want neck and head support at back. For side sleepers it might well be really useful and worth the high cost. I learned about it from another video you did and i thank you Very much. I’m in the uk and it ships here. The guarantee is a really good aspect or people who struggle to make such an investment to feel reassured they only keep it if it works. Iv brought so many pillows that Fail to give both support and softness and there is no money back option

Thank you for making all of us with sleep anxieties feel seen, Dr. Dray. Would this pillow cause neck wrinkles from raising the head up as much as it does?
Also, do you have any tips for keeping one's head from turning at night? I sleep on my back, but no matter what I do (and I've tried many pillows like this), my head goes HARD to the left. It's now at the point where the left side of my face is visibly flatter than the right.

dont be a back sleeper in general. yeah it might move your skin one way, but u switch sides so youre fine. anatomically its more efficient for your body in its healing process bc it is through the spine that debris fluids are moved in and out. all animals primarily sleep on their sides - dogs, cats, apes, native american tribes. take their collective wisdom and apply it to your life.
and a memory foam pillow? use your elbow. hard surfaces are the best form of support for your internal structures

I liked the Sleep & Glow pillow at first. I suffer from neck pain, so the neck support was the main reason I bought it. While it has worked better than some other neck pillows I have tried, I still wake up with neck and shoulder pain, sometimes to the point where it is distracting, so I wouldn't say Sleep & Glow has been that much of a game changer for me.

What are your thoughts on sleep masks and skincare? I have been using a sleep mask for over a year and it definitely helps me doze off and stay asleep but I am 90% sure the eye mask if giving me irritation around my eyes and occasional breakouts on upper cheeks. I hate it but when I try to sleep without the mask its difficult! I have tried using more expensive masks (Blussy) for higher quality material.

I have a few tips to share myself. 1. Get the room temp comfortable for you or you will not be able to sleep. 2. Side sleepers: Position your pillow just above your neck and before your chin and extend arms. 3. Always Keep shoulders aligned with your vertebrae. and lastly 4. When you close your eyes, feel your body’s exhaustion and heaviness and relax.

I've had the sleep and glow pillow for a few mounts. As I have a fairly long neck I feel when I sleep on my back it is not always so comfortable. For me I wish it had a little more support there. I like it for side sleeping though and I love how you wake up with no pillow wrinkles. Because it's not as comfortable on my back Im becoming more a side sleeper and in general I don't think my sleep is as sound. I wish it came in more sizes with measurements included. Then it would be a perfect pillow I think!

Hi dr dray! I’ve been using mineral sunscreen for awhile and always hated the white cast. I got the idea one day to put a tiny bit of turmeric in it because my skin is already sort of yellow toned. It works so good and makes zero white cast, and I haven’t gone back since. What do you think? Is it a good idea?

    • @TiffTheTyrant

Sandie A No! Not at all! I’m not sure what turmeric you used, but normally plain turmeric has very little smell, at least for my nose, I’ve never used turmeric that smells very strongly it’s just a mild earthy smell to me. Curry smell comes from other spices mixed together like Star anise etc

Best sleep for brain health - the side...particularly left side. Sorry! Reason to side-sleep is bc during deep sleep the brain cleanses 'debris' (beta amyloids no longer needed & other neurotransmitters that have done their job during the day, but now need to be flushed from the brain ...via a process called glymphatic transport.
So, all this debris is washed away and into the lymphatic system during the high delta, deep (restorative) sleep phase. The brain is assisted during this process by the position of the head during deep sleep. Back sleeping is not conducive to glymphatic transport, but side sleeping IS.
Since the major lymphatic vessel is located on the left side of the body, the optimal sleep position is left lateral...left side. However, even the right lateral pisition is better than the supine position. I.e. on one's back.
