- A couple years ago, viewers of CW's The Flash were introduced to Eobard Thawne, aka Reverse Flash. But even up until today, one lingering question remains: how did he lose his powers when he killed Barry Allen's mom? Let's find out!

In summary, Eobard is so obsessed with the flash that he screws up and once he does he ends up screwing up even more.
In the last crossover when everyone learns about Flashpoint, the legends of Tomorrow team (mostly) were so pissed off yet their actions would cause FAR more damage to the timeline since they're traveling farther in the past and intervening with people. As if seeing a guy with a fire gun, guy who shoots fire, and a guy who can change size wouldn't affect other people's decisions.

not necessarily because they cause a little change like a statue of rory appearing in the capital but reverse flash is hell bent on changing the whole history like stopping america to exist ..putting damien darhk in white house ,,giving alcapone unlimited power to become mayor that will cause more timeline damage ..wheb ever they will fix it they will still leave a little aberration but it isnt that much as compared to aberration thawne wants....just as barry changed everything created flashpoint but realized that its wrong corrected it but the timeline can never come back to original state as it was they still will be some minor changes if you take it collectively but major as compared to individuals
As shown in season 1, Vandal Savage began researching how to create his own firestorm after seeing Firestorm. Seeing the legend and interacting with them will cause changes in the timeline. Are you forgetting that they freed slaves who were going to be killed; a whole bunch of people who were suppose to die are now interacting with people which also affect those people's lives.Barry changed ONE thing and that's his mother dying which changed the whole timeline and you think saving over ten people further in the past wouldn't be worst? Not hating on the show, I love it but they need to think about these things if they want to do a time travelling series.

My theory is that when he ran back in time and killed Barry's mother, he essentially stopped Barry from becoming the Flash. Thawne duplicated what happened to Barry to become the Flash and also became a speedster. When he killed Barry's mother and prevented him from becoming Flash he would never duplicate the reaction to the lightning and dark matter because it would never have happened anyway, causing the effects of the reaction to leave his body. That's my theory at least.

In theory this makes sense but the writers fucked this up.
Thawne himself even said time paradoxes can't effect someone exposed to the negative speed force. Hence when Nora was being vaporized they wanted her to go through the negative speed force. If that's the case technically speaking there's no way Thawne should have lost his powers. I just mark it down to shitty writing.

Hey I mean you can’t blame a character or a person in real life for losing their mother because a evil Speedster from a different earth came and took their loved one Away .... what do you think he supposed to feel like a robot ?!! Barry Allen is really just as human as me or any fan of the show the only difference is that he got attack struck by lightning from the dark matter for the universe therefore he got that phenomenal skill of being a speedster .... Small version* Thawne killed Barry’s mom in thinking that it would cause him so much grief and pain that he would never become the flash but if Barry never becomes the flash Thawne never recreates the same accident that gave him powers leaving him powerless so in order to get back to the future he created the flash and trained him in order to make him fast enough to break the time barrier and send him home

@@starRushi Technically, oct 7th is just the day the pilot aired. There's never an official date stated when Barry wakes up and in the second episode, Joe makes a comment that makes it clear that Barry has already been awake for a 'few weeks' before Multiplex.
Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of episodes where we know exact dates for the events. So, most people just use the date that the episode aired.
We have to remember what Eobard said in the Flashpoint episode. Barry still very much had his speed in the altered universe, but the more he uses it the more it cements him in the altered timeline. The rules are a bit different for Eobard now that he kind of exists outside of time, but in the original timeline he created it shows that he very much plays by these rules. He uses the his speed for a brief second to escape a crumbling ceiling and looks exhausted afterwards. He still has the speedforce, but he has to use it sparingly or risk losing it and trapping himself in the timeline. So in his own words he cheats. He uses tachyon enhancement to mimic the speedforce until he cements himself back into history...something he fails to do. The Eobard we see in Legends isn't bound by these limitations because he's already from an alternate timeline. Remember, it's a version that didn't kill Barry's mom, so he never lost his connection, he just got trapped in an alternate timeline. By the time Barry has him "restore" the timeline it's already proven to be another alternate because of all the differences, which means Eobard never disrupted his history, he's in a different history altogether, which explains why the one we see now doesn't suffer the same fate Welles/Thawne did.

this is how he lost his powers, in the future the reverse flash got his powers cause he wanted to be like the flash but instead be the reverse, as time went on he travelled back to kill him but in stead he killed his mum and he stoped barry from becoming the flash because he caused a tragic event that would give him tramur. but if barry never becomes the flash the the reverse flash would never get the insperation to get similar powers because the flash never existed, thats why he lost his powers because he erased the time line, so thats why he created him to get his powers back. ]

He is a time remnant of his timeline at that point. However he lost the connection to the speedforce because Barry never created the speedforce in that timeline. He had to personally make Barry become the Flash again so he could gain access to the speedforce.
Your point at 4.42 is kinda right kinda wrong ("He only started getting his speed back once Barry became the flash in 2014") because we do see a flashback scene to Barry in his coma and Thawne is talking to him and uses his super speed to vibrate his hand near Barry's chest. Now it could be right because Barry at that point, whilst in a coma, still had the speed force flowing through him meaning Thawne could still access it potentially. OR it could be wrong because in the comics Barry generates the speed force when he runs and whilst he was in a coma he wasn't exactly using his super speed.
However it still all depends on how the TV show wants to explain the speed force and negative speed force

Remember that they said that Barry kept flatlining at the hospital during his coma, which is why Joe let Star Labs take him in. It was explained that his heart was going too fast for the heart monitor to keep up, which made it looks like it was flatlining.
Ergo, even in the coma, Barry already had some Speedforce in him.

Right. Thawne had his powers at the moment he killed Harrison Wells. They were significantly depleted but he had them. How else would Thawne hide Wells' body leaving no forensic evidence in about 1 minute before the police arrive on the scene?

I can't believe no one realized this sooner, eobard lost his speed only because he had the negative speed force, and when Barry from the future left eobard stranded that essentially wiped his powers out until a speedster who uses the normal speed force is near eobard again which is why he killed tess and wells and assumed the identity of wells, to speed up the creation of the flash so he could start recharging his speed to get 'home' but as we see in later episodes, eobard coming back in time and killing Nora Allen made it where eobard would never return home, thus him appearing in legends of tomorrow
So when future barry went back to the future that future would be different right?

I always thought when original future barry got his younger self out of there he vanished (like how s1 barry vanished when season 2 barry went back and stopped reverse flash creating flashpoint) when reverse flash killed Barry's mother. Then it didn't fully catch up to him until after he left and collapsed after.

Well Eobard changed the past by killing Barry’s mother. That changed the course of history if Nora Allen had survived he would’ve become the flash in 2020 because there is no Eobard to go back in time and to get stuck in time and force Barry to become the flash. Or Barry could’ve created dark matter and dumped it all over central city therefor creating metas in 2020.

@@thebestduo3089 Yep, my take is that OG Barry(that's what I call the pre season 1 Flash) got his powers from different source, not from the particle accelerator as we see in season 1. This also could mean that the particle accelerator accident didn't take place at all. Which means the metas that OG Barry had to fight were created another way. Which of course, we never get to see any of this explained. Not even what happened to OG Barry after that night(probably got erased, but that should have happened to Eobard too).

I think that Reverse Flash lost his powers because he actually did succeed in what he wanted to do when he killed Nora Allen, maybe the timeline was about to go down a different pathway if Reverse Flash had gone and killed the original Harrison Wells, maybe Barry was distraught and didn't become the Flash, that means what Eobord was telling the original Harrison Wells before he killed him was the pathway the timeline was going down, where the original Harrison Wells and his wife created the particle accelerator in 2020, resulting in Eobord losing his powers, we know that Eobord is able to look into the future from when he saw the alternate news paper in episode 7 of season 1, it's because at that point, Barry temporary lost his speed, so the timeline was going down a path where Barry stayed without his speed, which resulted in the alternate newspaper. So after he killed Nora Allen, he saw the pathway from what he did, Barry never becomes the Flash and the particle accelerator doesn't go off until 2020, so Eobord intervenes and kills the original Harrison Wells so he can one day bring about the creation of the Flash, and then train him to get faster so Flash can open up the time wormhole to let Reverse Flash go home, because in between when he killed Nora Allen and Eobord's death, the negative speed force probably didn't exist, so with the tachyon device, Eobord was trying to scrap up any remaining Negative speed force energy (probably out of his body), but he can't hold onto his speed forever, which is why he needed Barry to break the time barrier for him. Which means that the 2024 Flash is the same Flash we follow in the show, which probably means that Eobord will get his hands on the spear of destiny in Legends and use it to restore the Thawne bloodline so that time will be stable.

Great explanation. It's what I thought as well. Also remember when Barry created Flashpoint, Barry started to lose his powers as well. Barry lost his power over the course of months. This was very similar to what happened to Eobard. Eobard just developed a Tachion device to prolong his powers.

Deluxe_ Tron in the comics Wally got screwed over after Barry's death and his top speed got reduced and he could barely break the sound barrier. But that might have been antimoniter shenanigans.

He traveled back in time from 2020 to the night where Nora died. The Flash didn't become the flash till 2020. And according to the comics Rf's negative speed force uses the power of the actual speed force. So after killing Barry's mom they both don't become flashes. So there you have it. If Barry from 2020 doesn't have his powers from that time period then Thawne doesn't have his either
Eobard didn't come back from 2020. The number of greats he's said when talking to his ancestor Eddie would put him from a different century but due to things he's said about when he's from he would have to be at least 100 years old maybe older. This is probably why he didn't even know what time period flash was from, even though he had a newspaper article about him with a date, until he found out on accident. He knows the flash existed in the time period of the article but due to his own age from speedsters aging slowly he wouldn't know how old the flash was when he disappeared. He basically had to bounce around the past until he found a young enough Barry to guess his age, find out his true identity and his address as a child.
And come 2 years later, and yes, the Negative Speed Force is a thing and it's exactly the way you explained it was.
The reverse flash uses the negative speed force to harness negative tachyons rather than positive or regular tachyons, negative tachyons basically feed off of positive/regular tachyons like a parasite. When they run the speed force generates a lot of different energies and as such there is too much to go into but ultimately his negative speed force feeds off the multiple energies created by the positive speed force, I'm a huge nerd I know
one thing I heard from another youtuber you might be able to explain is.. on legends of tomorrow, when the reverse flash and the atom are on the moon, reverse says he missed working with sysco, but that reverse flash is not the one that was stuck in the past.

He disappeared because his timeline disappeared but I wonder what Future Barry is the 2056 version. Original Timeline Barry where Reverse-Flash didn't travel back in time to 2024 or future 2014 version.

I don't know about that. The future Barry needed to have some knowledge of Eobard going back and killing his mother, otherwise, why would he look at past Barry and shake his head "no" to indicate that he shouldn't help. You'd think he'd be surprised. Besides, if versions of Eobard were protected from the timeline change when he was in the speed force, couldn't the same can be said for future Barry?

The timeline where Barry became the flash in 2020 doesn't exist, because its a time loop. the "original" time line is supposed to be that barry becomes flash in 2020, but no matter what, thawne will always become reverse flash and travel back in time and kill Barry's mom, because if not, it will be flash point, and no one said Barry will become the flash there. So thawne always will make Barry into the flash, Barry will make thawne in to reverse flash ( because the got inspired by Barry), and therefore, because of complicated time traveling shenanigans, there is no 2020 timeline

In the OG timeline Barry get his powers in 2020. in 2024 Reverse Flash learned Flash's identity and he traveled back in time to kill him as a child Barry went after him to stopped him. When Eobard killed Barry's mother he ereased whole OG timeline from existence + he ereased Flash that's why he lost his speed. ( Thanks to the negative speedforce he's the as fast as Barry is) + when he ereased that timeline and created an another one that we can see now he became a living paradox and he can't die. OG timeline existed but RF ereased it.
um no. according to the SF time travel isnt supposed to exist... what happens is always a loop except for time travel. it was always meant to be that original barry fights RF and some shit goes down. however the time travel when the RF goes back and changes time isnt accounted for so the loop is disrupted and a new loop is created where everything till that incident is accounted for unless the next interval

I kind of just always assumed he lost his speed because he only got his speed because he wanted to be the flash but since flash never got his powers after thawne killed Barry’s mother thawne would have never got his speed because he wasn’t inspired by the flash’s speed
If you look back at some of the episodes like before he killed Harrison Wells he said “you and your wife created a particle accelerator that changed everything, I need that to happen early” so Barry is suppose to get his powers from a different time not 2014 because he stated he needed the particle accelerator to explode early that’s how he ruptured his time line because Barry wasn’t suppose to become the Flash that early since he did his speed got slower because he wanted Barry to become the Flash early so he can go home. And that’s why the by line says “Flash Vanishes in Crisis” in 2024 that’s not suppose to happen until Eoabard Thawn changed everything by letting the particle accelerator explode early and how he lost his speed.
I like how you mentioned that the current universe we're witnessing is actually in itself an anomaly, it's NOT the original timeline. Again that's my big crux with the entire concept of Flashpoint and the change it brought about and the importance of it, as well as the importance of undoing it. It makes no sense as to why Flashpoint it's so important if the entire Flarrowverse is a hiccup in time.
I always figured the reason Reverse Flash lost his speed was because 1. He has an artificial (and intermittent) connection to the Negative Speed Force, 2. His constant changing of time - despite being a living paradox - nerfed his powers without the existence of the Flash, and 3. With the Negative Speed Force eating at the Speed Force and the Flash being erased from the timeline, Reverse Flash's power had nothing to feed off of. Kinda like a rechargable battery that'd been charged and depleted one too many times.

My theory is that since Eobard was a super fan of flash, studied the flash, and recreated the particle accelerator. So if he kills Nora, then Barry never becomes the flash, then he never studies the flash, so he never recreates the accelerator, so he never gets speed, so he loses speed. Once flash starts running faster, the original timeline Eobard starts to study the flash etc etc.

Eobard's became a speedster because he wanted to be like The Flash. When he killed Barry's mom and got his dad locked up, it changed events in the future such as Barry never becoming The Flash. No Flash means Eobard never aspires to become a speedster, so he looses his powers. That's how I've always thought about it.
2 years later, he says he made is own speed force. So he couldn’t be felt thru the speed force.

He did not force Barry to be the flash, after flash died by saving the multiverse he went back in time turned into a thunderbolt and hit his younger self in the same laboratory
Great video! I wish the CW writers would have used this to build Savitar. What I mean by this, is they could have worked the story to where the Future Flash that saved young Barry Allen got stuck in the Speed Force while trying to returning to the future and he had to watch his mother die over and over again causing him to go crazy. Once Present Day Barry truly took up the Flash mantle then the Future Flash was released from the Speed Force and had been driven mad and tried to go back in time again to prevent things from happening but failed. Now he's planned to replace Present Day Barry Allen and becoming the one and only Flash. Confusing but still better logic than what's going on with the show lol.

How did people not know how this happened?Eobard became the reverse flash because he was a huge fan of the flash , and did an experiment to become a speedster but became insane in the process . So when he went back and made the flash not exist his future self never was a fan. He then doesn't get his speed back when the flash is training because (this part is the theory bit) the flash isn't as fast as he was originally , which makes Eobard not impressed so he doesn't become a fan.

The flash and reverse flash fight in 2024 which leads to them disappearing and they end up back in 2000 which is why we see them fight in the living room, leading to Nora’s death.

Well eobard is from 2156 actually, so he’s either eddie’s granchild or great grandchild. Now there’s this thing called the grandfather paradox. When Eddie killed himself, in hopes of killing eobard, it failed because he hadn’t been born yet. Also because of reverse flash killing nora, he became an essential part of any timeline where he has to kill nora hence the flashpoint episode (3x1). Also the huge black hole that formed at the end of season 1 was because of eddie’s death. But because Barry stopped it the cycle continues.
Savitar Barry is from a future where iris had been killed causing Barry to go crazy and run back in time creating the same event over and over again until our Barry stopped it.
Eobard probably just redesigns one since he is from the future, we see rip hunter with a Gideon as well so.
When eobard said that Barry would forget that he is the flash, firstly he was talking about the flash that made flashpoint not the og Barry. When our Barry made flashpoint he basically override his older life that we see (nora dying, him living with iris and joe, him needing to be the flash as Wally west was it in that timeline).

In the comics in was revealed that Nora Allen was also the mother of Malcolm Thawne who was Eobard's ancestor switched at birth so when he killed her it could have slightly altered his own timeline affecting his connection to Barry Allen perhaps his connection to the speed force was resetting
No one still answered the question that "if at the end of s2, Barry captured RF and prevented him from murdering his mom, then when both of them went again to kill his mom, we saw thawne return with the flash, so that means there was no thawne remaining there. that means he never killed Wells, that means Barry didn't become the flash yet flash s03 continues as if events similar to flash s1 happened.Thawne OS freely travelling through time now in lot and facing a different problem, he didn't lose his power to travel through time this time, that means the events of s1 shouldn't have happened... can someone explain this enigma?

The Reverse flash whom the flash kept as the prisoner becomes a "time remnant" as he moved him back to present. So when the timeline becomes permanent causing Barry to lose his powers he had to travel back to the night where Nora gets killed.
The original reverse flash and original flash comes to Barry's house, original flash saves Barry, original reverse flash tries to kill Nora who is then stopped by flash from modified timeline. But Barry from flashpoint brings the time remnant reverse flash back to the same night which erases the existence of flash from modified timeline. As the time remnant reverse flash kills Nora, the timeline is set back to a point close to the timeline matching events from season 1 and 2 but with little changes. The time remnant reverse flash then brings him back to the present and goes back into the speed force trying to return to the future when his existence is removed due to the events that happens in season 1.
The only mistake they made was removing the existence of original reverse flash which makes no sense, he should be waking up to find Nora dead and continued the events as per season 1 and evntually dies at the finale.
Another mistake would be, when Barry saved his mom by stopping original reverse flash, then original flash's existence is also saved, which means he would come back to his house and see his mom where Barry from modified timeline and original reverse flash was there. But it could be interpreted as if he arrived after Barry and original reverse flash goes back to present. He goes there sees his mom alive and he goes back into the speed force trying to return to the future when his existence is removed due to the creation of flash point.

Reverse- -Fuhrer Eobard Thawne from original timeline died in season 1. Who we see on season 2 is the time remnant RF, who doesn't belong to the modified timeline but came from the original timeline to learn about the Flash. Since Barry let him go, he went back to the future knowing the Flash's identity and completes the paradox. He'll then come up with a plan viz. to kill child Barry.
The RF on season 3 is also from the original timeline but he became a time remnant after he was moved to the present. Time remnants tend to die if their existence is removed, which in our case is the death of Eddie Thawne. The time remnant RF don't know that Eddie will kill himself in order to stop him. If he had known he'd just kill Barry from modified timeline. But he knows better not to fuck up with timelines. So, a probable explanation would be that he died on his way back inside the speed force and his powers are restored back to it.
I don't follow LoT. May be he survived through speed force, but how? did they gave any explanation?
Reverse- -Fuhrer Original reverse flash from 2024 travels back in time and kills Barry's mother then loses his power due to an anomaly in the speed force and his connection is severed. So he recreates the same particle accelerator in 2014 which was originally created in 2020. So basically the Eobard from S1 just created an alternate timeline. But in S2 when Barry stops him and then brings him back to the night after realising his mistake in S3 it was supposed to return to original timeline. But it didn't. That's why maybe he didn't die inside the speed force.
But think about it, the reverse flash originates in 2024 and goes to 2015 then learns flash's identity (where he's imprisoned by Barry which causes cisco's existence to be removed, i don't know why, so Barry let's him go), comes back to 2024, decides to kill him as a child and goes to 2000, does all those things in S1 and dies in 2014. So when reverse flash brings Barry to 2015, he couldn't exist, because he died in 2014.
It's always a paradox even when the timeline changes. Because the reverse flash is supposed to learn the flash's identity after 2020, not 2015 while he was a human. I bet the speed force purposefully brought him in 2015 of the modified timeline in order to satisfy the paradox.
When the Barry created the flashpoint in s02e23 by saving his mother and afterward when he freed reverse flash when he felt that his powers are fading away, then the reverse flash didn't lost his speed when he killed barry's mother ,and returned the flash to his original timeline, then who made the star labs as the reverse flash didn't lost his speed and also after returning flash to his original timeline he said "See you sometimes soon flash" .That's what I am thinking since then that how star labs came into existence!

I agree with every except I think the fact that it never fully come back was because of Eddie killing himself and therefore Eobard ceases to exist. This is similar to the effects of a time quake in that it was taking time for the effects to become permanent and for his powers to be fully gone. This also further explains his use of the tachyon device as its time altering properties may have been functioning in a similar to the temporal zone therfore postponing the inevitable.

Well, like you mentioned there were 2 timelines. One where Barry's mom alive and Barry's mom dead cause of Reverse Flash disrupting his own timeline.
But, if I can recall properly Reverse is from the time where I think Flash was known as a Legend,I mean 22nd century(2100 something). So, which mean there was already this Nora Allen dead timeline from the start and it has to be this only. Reverse know that he is the rival himself in future. In order to continue his own timeline , he knows he was destined to become Flash rival. From that onwards he started hating the Flash. I’ve always figured that the reason why Thawne lost his powers was because him getting them in the first place was because he was obsessed with The Flash wanted to become like him, and since now there is no Flash in his time, his past self would have no reason to get powers, thus his powers vanishing after he killed Barry’s mother.

Curiously, considering that in Legends he remembered things he did as Harrison Wells, I suppose it already happened.(He also commented on his time as Wells in the Earth-X crossover) And since he is essentially a living paradox, I suppose he just came back from being "erased" from the timeline.
It is kinda similar to the comics where, due to his excessive time travelling and connection to the speedforce, he is literally unable to die.

I believe the real reason that eobard loses his speed is because in the timeline that was meant to happen, the oh dr wells and his wife were going to build the particle accelerator in the year 2020 and giving the flash his powers. Eobard thwane soon became obsessed with the flash and wanted to know how he came to be. So he replicated the reaction and got his powers. Then he went back in time to kill Barry but future Barry followed thawne. So he thought of something else. In the words of thwane, if Barry were to suffer a tragedy so horrific, he would never become the flash. He did succeed but with a catch if Barry were to never become the flash, Eobard would never the motivation to replicate the reaction and gain his speed thus never becoming the reverse flash.

Something that doesn't make sense that Thawne doesn't permanently losed his powers, thats why he couldn't recreated the reaction that gives him powers and thats why he was able to get access to his speed through tachyon device.
Is it not obvious? Thawne became the Reverse Flash because the Flash existed. When he changed the timeline so that Barry would never become the Flash, the Reverse Flash stopped existing. The only reason he didn't immediately lose his powers is because, as we've seen in the Arrowverse, it takes time for a new history to set in, and while Thawne was still around to keep altering events, his existence as the Reverse Flash in the future was still in flux.
My Theory :
Reverse flash born because of flash. If flash didn't have powers meaning that Eobard didn't got obsessed by the flash cause the flash didn't exist. Eobard wants flash to become faster so in the future Barry can break the time space rupture barrier so Eobard could go home.

Okay first thing's first: Eobard Thawne didn't change the timeline by murdering Barry's mother. The death of Nora Allen is a fixed point in history and doesn't affect the timeline whatsoever. The reason why the timeline was changed was because Eobard was trapped in the past and had to purposely alter the timeline to make Barry the Flash so he can get back to his time.
I always thought it was more of a Godspeed type deal, where rival speedsters tend to siphon off each other's powers, and given the latest episode, 312, it's been shown that the flash can exhaust himself, so why couldn't the reverse do the same without someone to clash against?
You did make one glaring mistake. The season one Gideon was right about the power drain. Barry only made ONE time jump, so he was able to get back. Eobard had already time jumped from the future to fight Flash, and then had time jumped a SECOND time to kill Barry's mom.
I haven't watched this vid yet, but in my opinion which is usually right. R. Flash went back in time and killed berry's mother to stop him from becoming the flash, if the flash didn't exist Thawn would not want to be the Flash, there in creating the paradox where his powers failed him, until he met berry and trained him to be the flash he couldn't have powers.
I think the reason he lost his speed is similar to how barry lost his speed when the speedforce died but instead of loosing the speedforce he lost the negative speedforce by changing time and only kept a residual amount of it thus explaining why he couldn't maintain it or get back home on his own.
So Reverse Flash became The Reverse Flash because of The Flash but when he travelled back in time and killed Barrys mother it meant that he would never become the Flash so he lost his ability to the Speed Force this is exactly the same reason why the Reverse Flash only appeared again when Barry got his speed.
I think the reason why is when he killed Nora the flash was gone. The flash was the main part of the speedforce. So since the flash was gone there is no speedforce since he's the core for the speedforce. So no speedforce no negative speedforce and even though he created the flash, the flash wasn't fast enough to fill up the speedforce core-ish
I paused the video and haven't watched it, yet because i'm pretty sure that they (the CW crew) have already told us when they brought to the audience, the episode when we saw Eobard tumble on the street and then Gideon told him he lost his powers.
This was because Eobard only got his powers because he was inspired by the Flash to try to recreate the chemical and natural accident that happened to give Barry his powers in the first place. So if Eobard murdered Barry's mom, then that chemical/natural accident wouldn't have happened, resulting in Barry never becoming the Flash, resulting in Eobard not being inspired by the Flash to recreate the accident to himself.

Since The flash messed up his speed force, like what happened in the flash 6x14 he only has a tad bit of speed bursts left before he depletes it forever.

in season 2 of the flash when the reverse flash shows up again he says he found out how the flash gets his powers and copies what happens to give himself his powers, so if he went back in time and stopped the thing that led him to become the reverse flash (Barry becoming the flash) he wouldn't have given himself the powers of speed in the first place (Which is a paradox, if reverse flash stops the flash from becoming the flash he wouldn't have gotten his powers meaning he wouldn't have been able to kill Barry's mother.) The reason I think the reverse Flash (RF) wasn't erased from history is that of what Savitar said in season 3, the more you time travel the fewer time effects you. Eobard lost his speed because when he killed Barry's mom, he erased the flash from existence. The reason he replicated the accident that created the flash was because he was inspired by Barry. So in 2014 when he did recreate the flash, his past self was again able to be inspired by the flash and he started slowly getting his speed back, he was nowhere near his top speed in season 1 at all because he had only a fraction of his speed
What I don't understand is, RF had enough speed to take on Barry no problem in the present. He was able to use his speed A LOT in season 1. So, why couldn't he create a time portal himself? I never got that part.

There was 2 times in the series where he warned Barry Allen that if he didn't allow him to kill his mother that should regret it, in season 2 and also in Flash-point. He he Barry would loose his speed and memories, because he went through the same thing, plus in season 3 when Cisco and Jullian mistakenly erase Barrys memory it affected Savitar and Kid Flash, kid Flash lost his powers. But what happened to the future Flash/Barry Allen that stopped Reverse Flash from killing 10year old Barry Allen.

Also, Once he created the flash, he has something to be inspired by and since there is a flash, that means the reverse flash (right after killing Barry's mom) would have speed, therefore he would be able to leave. If he left, that means he won't recreate the flash, and then he'd be stuck in his normal time, without powers or any idea about speed. In the end, there would be no speedsters or Harrison Wells to make Metas.

When Thawne killed Barry's mom in hope that he would be traumatized enough not to become the Flash and that's exactly what happened. did you know that the speedster that saved barry as a kid wasn't even barry, it was Wally who saved him, the only reason it looked like the flash barry was because CW messed up it all up, 1. the flash is the speed force because he already had his powers, and 2. In the Very, very old comics, Wally finds out that Reverse flash is still alive and is going to kill Barry, unable to stop him in space time, He goes on and saves barry,
i believe he loses his speed because the negative speedforce is fueled by anger and hate, but he succeded and changed the timeline so barry would never become the flash. So without the flash to hate he can`t hate him because he doesn't exist anymore.But once barry becomes the flash he starts to use the negative speedforce again but he is conflicted as he spent so much time creating the flash. Once he starts battling the flash his anger returns and he starts to stabilize his speed.
