  • I know this is a lengthy and I know how to spell dummy, but I just wanted to get this up, I really need this in my rearview mirror.
    Waiting on the carb to get going and this stacked behind it has kept me behind the eight ball for weeks....now it's time to enjoy the fruits of my labor.
    The drill bit used to slowly cut through the brake disk is a 3/8 Cobalt bit... trust me, just go buy one at Lowes or Home Depot for $12.

    Thank you for this video. I have the same speedo on a moded dirt bike that was converted to street legal. The kid I got it from gave me the speedo with it not hooked up and no instuctions at all. I searched the web for proper instructions and found nothing useful until I found your video. I got it working perfect now. Thank you for the help.

I found no real information on the subject also so I went through this in hopes all would be worth it in the end, It's my most viewed video now so I am happy it has helped so many. Thank you all!

    It can be set to run on anything with a wheel really, As long as you have a place to mount the magnet and censer it will read the speed . It has a wide range of adjustment setting in the cluster.

    high--I've just bought a unit and the vid is very helpful--but I have a question--I have two extra wires with bullet connectors apart from the speed input connector (3 terminal), gear number(6 terminal) and the main 9 terminal connector. I'm guessing that these wires (a brown/red and a grey) are for an engine service/fault light--? can you please confirm. I'm hoping that my kawa electronic speedo input(3 wire)--will produce a pulse that the unit will recognise for speed--otherwise its a single magnet. I have checked that the unit requires a permanent 12v (red) and a switched 12V from the ignition (black) to activate the display?

    Hi sir. I bought the exact same speedometer and i found out a way to calculate the setting for the speed sensor in the speedometer.
    The instructions say base setting is 42 Hz at 60 km/h. To calculate the setting for the bike you need to know the circumference of the wheel or the diameter*pi.
    The setting on the speedo is the frequency of the wheel at 60 km/h.
    In my case the circumference is 2,05m (21" wheel with offroad tires, KTM 620 SX)
    Setting = (60 / (Wheel circumference in meters /1000)) / 3600
    In my case calculated setting is: Setting = (60km/h / (2,05m/1000)) / 3600 = 8,13 Hz at 60 km/h.
    I used two magnets on the wheel which means double the frequency.
    Setting = 8,13 Hz * 2 = 16,26 Hz.
    I put my setting at 16 Hz and the speed is perfectly allign to the GPS.
    Hope this is useful for some one out here. Nice video (y).
    Best Regards

      I was aware that it could be calculated, it was talked about on a forum I belong to. I have 90/80 16" front tire, so it should have a circumference of 167,3 cm and the calculation would be (60/(1,673m/1000))/3600 = 9,96 Hz with 2 magnets for speed sensor means 19,96 => 20Hz?

If it is digital, so you need to conect the three wires cable from the Wheel to speedo, or install the 3 wires cable with the 2 or three magnets inthe Wheel yo fer the signal. In few words, there are no voltage needed, Just the 3 wires sensor cable.
