  • Easy how to video on wiring one of these speedometers. I've wired a few of these speedometers in the past and for the price of them I am surprised to say that they are all still fully functioning, one 2 years after fitting!
    So with that we are putting one on this Honda motorcycle project.
    You can purchase one through Amazon from this link:

    Hey buddy great video. I have an issue with my original wire diagram on my Yamaha mt03 2013. The fuel, indicators, high beam and backlight all have there own positive wire but then all need to run back to the black and white negative. As I connect fuel it is fine but when I wire up my high beam and run it of the same negative to get it reading, the fuses blow. Is there any other way you suggest I wire it so it doesn’t blow a fuse but have everything working? Cheers

My bike, an 03 katana 600, has a built in speed sensor, two wires from it, Orange w red tracer and a pink, where will I wire these in? to the 3 wires for the magneto speed sensor? grounding the ground out ofc. Or do I need to get a similar speed sensor down on the wheel axle like yours? I wont use the magnets, I dont trust it to stay attached :) Any help would be epic dude. Thanks in advance.

    Hi, just fitted one of these to my Honda CB500 1999. The instructions that I received are for a similar unit but not the one I have bought. I have the same one as you so my question is about the water temperature readout.
    I have two wires in my loom that go to the original analog temp gauge, the digital gauge has only one wire ( Blue/White), do I ground out the other wire? In addition, I have yet to see an actual reading on the digital clocks referring to the engine's coolant temperature, it shows temp when the key is first turned when doing a diagnostic, but after that, I can't access the temperature readout display in any menu. I have assumed that as I have not wired it up correctly it will not display. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
    regards
    Steve

      Hi mate. Sorry for delayed reply, has been a busy couple of days. I did have a quick look for a wiring diagram for you bike but with no luck, though I think I have one on file somewhere.
      Usually though one wire will be ground, one will be to the gauge. If you're having trouble another option is to replace the temperature sensor with the same thread that will fit this gauge. I know there are options for Honda that will fit.
      Have you looked to see which wire it was that went to the old gauge?

    • @stephenclarke9026
      @stephenclarke9026 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Alpha-wu5qx Hi buddy, made a typo on my other post, I referred to the coolant wire as blue and white, instead of green and white, everything else applies though. I'm suspicious of my purchased digital clocks as my wire is not green and white but looks green and yellow. I've included a link so you can see. Ignore the multiple connector blocks, great tip of yours makes a much cleaner install.
      drive.google.com/file/d/1Sl39X7e_BY7Tm7f6JMD1KLNeTDDzrTn3/view?usp=drivesdk
      On your clocks does the temperature display itself all the time or do you have to select it?
      If my clocks don't have a coolant function do you know how I can test the clocks to find out exactly what the green and yellow wire does?
      I have an engine oil warning light, no mention of one in the dodgy instructions, how can I make the oil light work?
      Sorry for all the questions.
      Regards
      Steve

    can you install this on a 450-700cc motorcycle/quad? I Doubt it can measure the speed?

    • @Alpha-wu5qx
      @Alpha-wu5qx  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mate. Yes you can though mounting might be tricky unless you can get a digital speedo drive fitted to the quad which some have. You could mount the magnets that come with it behind the wheel and mount the sensor so when the wheels spin the sensor will read the magnets. Only real way to get accurate speed reading with this method though would be to tune the speedometer settings using your GPS on your phone.

  • @sam_milton

    What did you wire the gear indicator wires to? I can't find any information in this specifically. I'm on a gs500 which never had a gear indicator to start with, not sure if I can actually use it, Tia.

    • @Alpha-wu5qx
      @Alpha-wu5qx  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi mate. If your bike didn't come with a gear indicator then there is no where to hook them up to. But there is aftermarket gear indicators that you can use. They are cheap on ebay but personally we've not used one. I just cap off the wires and used the neutral light of none were fitted.
      Might be worth having a look at the gear indicators on eBay and see how it works for you. GS500's are great bike by the way. Very much like them done as cafe racers!

    • @sam_milton
      @sam_milton 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Alpha-wu5qx thought you'd say that, thanks for confirming though. I've been looking on eBay but most are utilising magnets to signal up and down shifts which wouldn't work with this unit. I know of some others that use the speed and rpm but have had no luck in working out how that work. What I need is something that uses the same design as this. Not the end of the world just would be nice to have. Also funny you should say that as I'm scrambler/flat tracking this GS. Cheers for your reply 👍

      I do remember seeing something about magnets when I looked into it quite awhile ago, probably why I never tried it. Even the speedo magnets on all these units I replace with a digital speedo drive. Not really looked into any other aftermarket gear indicators but my first bike I ever owned didn't have one so I overlooked them ever since lol. Definitely show us the finished product of your GS!

    You had mentioned about grounding out the fuel wire if you don't have the sensor in your tank. I've got to do that cuz I don't have one. Does it actually turn the fuel light on the speedometer off? Or does it not do anything

    • @Alpha-wu5qx
      @Alpha-wu5qx  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey I’m trying to connect my wire for the rpms but don’t know where can you describe in detail where you put that wire. Do you wrap it around the coil wire or cut into it or? I have a mechanical rpm currently.

    • @Alpha-wu5qx
      @Alpha-wu5qx  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Best bet is to put it into the positive side of your coil wires (not the actual plug wire). Strip a fair bit off it and wrap it round the connecting pin and then start your bike just to test it works and picks up a signal, if all looks good then wire it in permanently to that wire.

    • @Alpha-wu5qx
      @Alpha-wu5qx  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. What part of the RPM are you having issues with? I've another video on speed settings etc. The RPM gauge can be hooked up to the positive side of your coil or previous wire for RPM of there was one. Then in settings select the amount of cylinders you have. The fuel light is an negative wire. If you don't have a fuel sensor you can just ground it out to the frame. If you do have a fuel sensor it will attach to the negative side of you fuel sensor.

    • @Ant-jh8mg
      @Ant-jh8mg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @Alpha-wu5qx
      @Alpha-wu5qx  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have a look at the settings and make sure it's set up right for the number of cylinders your bike has. If that don't work then try the coil method. It should work off the old RPM signal wire though.

    • @Alpha-wu5qx
      @Alpha-wu5qx  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The way I figure it out is finding the original wiring diagram for your bike and have a look at which functions are for the different speedo wires. You can play with it until you have a signal. Tuning wise it's a bit iffy, you'll have to get a GPS speedo and play with the settings match that.

      I did indeed and yes it does work. It's a method I use a lot but generally use my GPS speedometer to tune it and make sure it's correct as sometimes the wheel setting can be off with this method. But far more reliable and better pick up than the magnets in my opinion.
