    tysm, for those that have the 9 pin/wire connector. I see a lot of the universal tachs just with 4 pin/wires now, very simplified!

    You need to use a wire that needs a negative feed as oil warning light. At least on my ‘77 honda needs to be done that way. Oil sensor sends signal via negative. You can use gear indicators on your speedo. I used #6 speed and its working. Good luck.

    • @flyingfencepost
      @flyingfencepost  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know what, I think you're right! I noticed that my oil indicator stopped working after this, and it must be because I wired it wrongly.

    with 2 magnets it would be circumference divided by 2 and those magnets have to me evenly spaced on the top and bottom of the rotor right?

  • @Quinjaben

    Thanks for the tutorial. When you say the red wire is "power to the speedo all the time" what do you mean by that and how would you wire it? Would you just run a wire to the positive terminal of the battery separate from the ignition wire? Wouldn't that drain your battery constantly? Even if you add a switch to this wire I don't see how that's different from the ignition power source. My speedo seems to work fine with just the black ignition wire hooked up and powers on but will my settings not be saved?

    • @mrbluecatone
      @mrbluecatone 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering if the speedometer has a battery inside that needs to be charged to keep the settings and if the settings will be saved if you use the bike constantly.

    • @Trevor-ju6uw
      @Trevor-ju6uw 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its almost like wiring a head unit..you need 12v that comes on with the key..and one that is 12 volt constant to keep clock battery charged. I removed my fairing from my goldwing and that left me with the 2 wires that used to feed stereo in fairing. I used those wired as they are already fused to fused box

    • @flyingfencepost
      @flyingfencepost  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used a resistor instead of a fuel level sensor. Since this bike doesn't have a fuel level sensor. I believe I used a 6k ohm resistor

    How far from center did you mount the magnet? Trying to figure out how to set the speed but mine is way off. Did you use 2 magnets or just one?

    • @flamelacacio8150
      @flamelacacio8150 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      it doesn't matter how far from centre you mount the magnet. As you set the circunference, it will multiply revs per time (second or minute) by the circunference you've informed before. So, if the circunference is 1 meter and it revs 10 times per second, the speed reading will be 10 meters per second.

    • @flyingfencepost

      Yes, that will make say it has gas, and stops blinking. And the resistor won't carry any current.

    What can happen if it rains? Water will enter the headlight housing (where there are some electrical connectors) and 'goodbye' operation - momentarily or in time. And problems, big problems ...

    • @sv8313
      @sv8313 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are no sensitive electronics in the headlights, so rainwater won't hurt much.

    • @PopaAlexandru.
      @PopaAlexandru. ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sv8313 They are not electronics, but I was talking about electrical connectors - there is a difference between electronic parts and electrical parts. The electronic parts are located in other parts, those suffer from the vibrations.

    • @sv8313
      @sv8313 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Popa Alexandru the connectors are fine. Unless you rode the bike underwater, which at that point you would have bigger things to worry about.

    • @PopaAlexandru.
      @PopaAlexandru. ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sv8313I have met connectors in safe places that have been damaged by water... it is not necessary to ride a motorcycle under water, it is enough to circulate important currents or, for example, some signals with a frequency of kHz.
