    I know the long episodes have to be harder on everyone involved in producing them, but I think i speak for everyone when I say WE LOVE THEM!!
    Hope the long episodes continue as we go forward, the chapters just get better and better as we go through this book and the others

    I have my own theory to explain the very expensive tickets:
    Ludo: thanks for your help Arthur, I’ve got some cheap-seats comp tickets i can give you.
    Arthur: oh that sounds great I’ll bring all my kids and *cough* HARRY POTTER *cough*.
    Fudge (appearing out of nowhere): Did you say Harry Potter?! Ludo, make sure they’re in the top box. I have to show him off to the Bulgarian Ministry- I mean keep him safe! Don’t you know Sirius Black is still on the loose? No Voldemort supporter is getting anywhere near Harry in the top box!
    Arthur: Voldemort supporter? You mean Death Eater, Minister?
    Fudge: Shhh we haven’t introduced that term yet.

      Oh he 100% name-dropped HARRY POTTER at every opportunity. To the point where the obliviators went to Mr. Roberts' house, who subsequently pulled a "I think I can move some people around" when Arthur called to book.

    59:30 And as usual, Carlin brothers keep bashing Oliver Wood for not being a good Quidditch player, because he makes it "only into a practice squad" as a kid fresh out of school. Like come on brothers, let's go through this once more: the British Quidditch league does pull players "from the international market", so the teams are not only relying on Hogwarts graduates. A 17-year-old is very young athlete, no matter how good he was at school, so it seems reasonable to place him in a practice squad, and wait for a couple years, so he could mature. Also (and I might be wrong, so please, correct me if I'm mistaken) the "practice squad" is something that practices with the actual team, and if a player is proven to be worthy, might overtake someones spot in the opening roster. So Oliver making it into the practice squad of any team in the major league right after school is actually an astonishing feat.

      It's like the UK British football teams. a lot of them have international players in and only the actual England team has English only players in. Also like teams trade players a lot as well. There is a thing in British football called "transfer deadlines" where players and managers leave, arrive, trade and all that kind of stuff. It's a thing.

    • @ferdinandcarangelo9279
      @ferdinandcarangelo9279 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      It’s more of the fact that there is such a small pool of players available to be drafted each year. Since Hogwarts is the only school in Great Britain ( I think). It means AT MAX there are 28 players coming out of hogwarts, and that is if every single one of the players was a seventh year. 28 max players to be drafted, for every team in Britain. Even if kids from other schools get drafted, you would think Wood would make better than a backup squad for a team in his country.

    • @CaptinPaulx
      @CaptinPaulx 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      And on top of all that it's not even the "practice squad." He's on the reserve team. So he's the backup goalie.

    Here in the UK we say the minute past the hour until it is half past the hour then we refer to time to be to the hour. For example 5:07am would be 7 past 5. If the time was 7:50 we would say it would be 10 to 8. Or if the time was 6:47 we would say it was 13 minutes to 7 or round it up and say it was 10 to 7. Us Brits don't make a lot of sense when telling time. We usually just have morning, afternoon and night 😂

    I don't know why people make such a big deal about Moody's eye being able to see through the cloak. The Deathly Hallows are not perfect objects. The Elder Wand isn't invincible (as evidenced by its many many changes of ownership), the resurrection stone can't actually resurrect anyone, and the cloak is not completely impenetrable.
    That's the beauty of the writting. Myth and legend made those objects seem incredible, and in a sense they are, but they were still made by real people, powerful no doubt, but people, not a legendary Death personification. It's myth vs reality, and the cloak not being completely impenetrable fits perfectly alongside the flaws of the other two objects and grounds them back to what's reality as opposed to their their legend.

    I'm not convinced Wizards in general wear what you Americans would call pants. Remember that pants in the UK means underwear, and in Snape's memory when he is being held upside down by James, his "pants" i.e. his underwear, is revealed, so he is not wearing any "trousers" underneath his school robes. Time and time again I'm baffled that the American publisher insisted on an American edition with changes made for the American market, but then the changes are stuff like Sorcerer's Stone instead of Philosopher's Stone and murder instead of curse (in the first chapter of this book) or a walnut instead of a satsuma stuck up someones nose in the St. Mungos, but no "translation" for actual British words and expressions that seems to create a lot of confusion.

    26:27 100 pence equals 1 pound. Our current currency is 1p coins, 2p coins, 5p coins, 10p coins, 50p coins, £1 coins, £2 coins, £5 notes, £10 notes, £20 notes, and £50 notes.
    Each note is a different colour, and the coins vary in size, shape, and colour, making it each to see how much they add up to without checking the tiny numbers.
    Although, £1 coins changed from a gold to gold/silver design similar to £2 coins in the 2010s, which could make you mistake one for the other at a glance.

    The whole wizards failing to understand muggle money comes from the very real switchover from old British money to the modern. Google pre-decimalization UK money and prepare to be thoroughly confused by the multitude of different coins and bills that all added up to weird, odd amounts compared to each other. I've actually seen old news reports from the early 70's where English people were confused in a shop because they were so used to the old funny money that they could not figure out tens and fives in their head.

Dumbledore knows himself to be susceptible to power so he doesn't put himself into situations where it is for him to grab. Together with the Elderwand which has its own influence on the wizard, he probably fears that he would become reckless and dangerous.

If you come from an old magic family (which the Crouches are), there is no shot that Barty Crouch wouldn't remember Percy's name, or at least his surname. Nothing of the bench is visible but the pile of snow covering it still somewhat resembles a bench. You could say the bench has become invisible but still left clues to it's presence. I think this is how Dumbledore due to skill, and Moody/BCJ thanks to the eye are capable of seeing Harry. They don't actually see him, they see the presence of someone invisible.

    On the muggle clothes, my headcannon is that wizards attempt to "make" their own clothes by transfiguring their own robes into what they *think* muggles wear. So they go into the muggle world very sparingly, and it happens to be raining that day, so they think muggle attire ALWAYS consists of rain coats and goulashes. They don't shop for them, so they don't see the vast array of options, they just use their own experiences when transfiguring their own garments

    1:24:00 This bit about the Bulgarians needing 12 extra seats screams to me that Bagman won all 12 seats in some gambling game, which would explain all the strange details of how he got the tickets, why they were given to the Weasleys last minute, and how such a well-planned event could be short so many seats in the VIP section this close to the game.

    As far as the portkey newspaper, I figure they could have done something like put a rock on it to keep from blowing away or maybe some sort of weight charm.
    As to Portkeying right to the campsite, that would actually be more dangerous since Mr Jones, the groundskeeper is more likely to see them. By keeping all the port key destinations to the same central location, it's easier for them to hide it from the muggles running the site.

  • @NicholasKoeppel

    I mean, I guess I always assumed that Arthur’s “luck” was a combination of: Sirius using his fortune, Dumbledore and the Ministry working together to make sure Harry was safe in a public place… and Fudge going along with all of it, because he liked the idea of being associated with the famous Harry Potter, and a little making up for last year to Dumbledore; to keep him in better relations…
    As far as the money goes: asking harry the question he did, might be a way to ask harry to confirm his conversion math; Wizard money doesn’t use a base-10 conversion, and so conversion can be difficult: like 143 in base-10, becomes 123 in base-12(staircase)…

    Also remember that Dumbledore had BOTH the Elder wand AND the Invisibility Cloak at the time that he may have made Moody's magic eye... Being the exceptional wizard he was, it is very plausible that Dumbledore figured out a way to breach the Cloaks magic using the Elder wand to compensate for the "magic power level" required.

    Here's a topic I'd like to hear you guys address: Common thought is that Umbridge was never a Death Eater or working directly with Voldemort, but was instead a racist Ministry toady using the law to advance her own discriminatory ideals... But how then does she know the moment Moody dies and how does she get his eye? Do you think she was simply told that some of the "undesirables" were located and Moody died in an effort to apprehend him?

    • @MelanieNLee
      @MelanieNLee 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

      I have an idea: By this time, Death Eaters had infiltrated the Ministry of Magic and would take it over in a few days. A Death Eater at the battle found the eye and gave it to Umbridge, or gave it to someone else who gave it to Umbridge. Soon the Order of the Phoenix would be considered enemies of the Ministry, and Dolores may have treasured the eye as a souvenir of a victory over the Order. This doesn't mean that Umbridge was a Death Eater herself or ever even met Voldemort, who kept himself relatively hidden and used Pius Thickness as a puppet.

    • @UnfazedPhoenix
      @UnfazedPhoenix 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    As far as Dean goes, the plot point that Rowling took out was Dean's Discovery that his father actually was a wizard, but went on the run and was later murdered by Voldemort. So in a way, Dean himself becomes his father, just more successful in that he survives. (Much like many others in their generation if considering the theory that Harry is James, Nevill is Peter, etc…)
    While it was cut to make more room for Neville's subplot about being the alternate chosen one, I've always figured it was probably still true of the character, just not shown to us the reader, and perhaps Dean himself didn't discover it.

    Given how bad wizards are at keeping literally the most important secret of their existence, you could imply Harry has seen memory charm side effects before because it's just constantly happening in the background. Having to obliviate a muggle is just a casual event of any adult wizard's day because that's just how badly they suck at not telling people they're wizards
