    As a stay at home mom of 2 small kids, Molly CHOSE not to go 😂 7 kids + 2 bonus kids in the house and a husband want to leave for at least a day but could be as long as a week? And I get to be by myself? No responsibility? Bye! Have fun!

      I'm a dude lol but I'm one of four brothers and I instinctually knew EXACTLY why Molly didn't go because I knew my mom would have done the same. Also, not for nothing, but it is also very possible that Molly, just like my mom, simply does not enjoy sports and would rather bring a book and read than actually watch the game (something my mom actually did at Yankee Freaking Stadium one time in the 1980s).

    The British use “miles” as just an expression, a turn of phrase implying a great distance. It doesn’t literally mean a distance of many miles. In Philosophers stone they aren’t literally miles underground, and in this chapter the World Cup isn’t just a few miles away. It’s like the American use of “ton” or “tons” to mean a large amount, but usually not literal tons.

    I always figured the reason Harry had to practice accio so much was because he was summoning the Firebolt from so very far away--my understanding of the spell is that it's usually used for smaller objects that are in your general vicinity, so summoning something as big as a broomstick from so far off takes more concentration/effort.

    I think that since Dumbledore wanted Moody to look out for Harry, he might have simply mentioned that Harry has an invisibility cloak as a heads up.
    But also, I did like the theory that Dumbledore created the eye for Moody. He had the invisibility cloak for long enough to study it and create something that could see through it.

    In Philosopher's Stone Hermione was quite athletic (think about the incident with Harry's broom being jinxed and Hermione running over to set Snape's cloak on fire). But in Chamber of Secrets, she spends most of the year petrified, not exercising her muscles at all. Which is why she's so incredibly unfit from Prisoner of Azkaban onwards.

    I've always read "side-along apparition" as having two different types.
    The first is taking along a wizard incapable of apparition, whether by under-age or just incompatibility with the spell. This, I suspect, is extremely difficult and is what Dumbledore does with Harry at the beginning of book 6 and, arguably what Harry does with Dumbledore after he had drunk the potion. Dumbledore's ability at this point is somewhat up for debate, he was able to repel inferi after drinking the potion but it's probably true that apparition is harder magic and that Dumbledore's condition is worsening.
    The second type of side-along apparition is guiding someone capable of apparating to a specific location. This is what Dumbledore does for Harry when they go to the cave and I think what the trio do throughout book 7. One of them, usually Hermione, has a destination in mind and then all of them apparate using that shared set of co-ordinates, essentially like following behind someone else in a second car. This, I would assume, is relatively simple, or at the least not any harder than regular apparition, and serves as a means for a group of apparating witches and/or wizards to all arrive at the same location.

      You have to be able to picture the place in your mind yourself in order to apparate there. Harry and Ron can't picture a destination they've never been to. It's more likely that Hermione is doing side along apparition with both. However, I could be wrong. Enjoyed your explanation and theories. ❤

    • @crtwrght
      @crtwrght 20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@UnfazedPhoenix Very near the end of The Seer Overheard in HBP just as they are about to apparate to the cave Dumbledore says to Harry : "... now place your hand upon my arm, Harry. There is no need to grip too hard, I am merely guiding you." This suggests there is at least some difference from the first time at the beginning of the book when they visit Slughorn where Harry is described as "re-doubling" his grip.

    • @jaredwonnacott9732
      @jaredwonnacott9732 19 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@UnfazedPhoenix We know that you have to picture a place in your mind in order to apparate there independently. However, we also know that Dumbledore is "merely guiding" Harry when they apparate to the cave and we know that if you touch someone as they're about to apparate, you can follow them even to unplottable and otherwise protected places, even if the person apparating doesn't intend to bring you along. The theory that one can apparate somewhere they can't picture in their mind if guided by another apparating with them seems not only possible, but clearly established.

    1:19:40 that is incorrect, there is absolutely indication that Fake Moody saw Harry telling him the map was his and changes what he was telling Snape on the spot. The wrackspurts theory makes no sense.
    a) The book literally says "For a few seconds, he and Harry stared straight into each other’s eyes". Not just looking in Harry's general direction, looking at his eyes.
    b) Moody actually told Snape he had dropped something while pointing at the map, thinking it was Snape's, then Harry starts motioning it's his and Moody accios it and says "my mistake, it's mine, must have dropped it". He 100% reacted to Harry's actions, he could see Harry 100%.
    c) Moody in the beginning of book 5 could also see Harry while taling him to Grimmauld Place.

      I don't know.
      Meeting Luna was such a whacky introduction that it made that chapter a shining beacon in an otherwise gloomy section of a particularly gloomy book. And it made a great juxtaposition that showed her being somewhat insane and made you question Harry's insanity when he encountered the thestral.
      But introducing her next to her even more whacky father would have overshadowed her. We would have lost all sense of her quirkiness, and since she played no part in book 4, it would have ruined her arc in book 5.

    Question: do you think Myrtle's parents were told their daughter became a ghost? They were both muggles, so they wouldn't have been able to see her even if they had been told. And they would have had to live out their loves knowing they'd never see their daughters again even in the afterlife. That is one of the cruelest fates of anyone in the series. So do you just not tell the parents to spare them the pain or do you tell them?

    I think the brothers always underestimate both the risk of apperation, and the fact Ron did end up messing it up in the Deathly Hallows.
    Apperating at school is safe enough when you have the medical staff right there to fix you up the second it happens. But if you are alone you can very well end up dead
    Also If I remember correctly/ in the translation of my book, Ron didn't splinch his arm, but a part of his finger, which Hermione at first was very concerned when she heard about it, but when she realises it's not a death threatening injury she goes back to being upset

Since the Weasley’s took a trip to see Bill right after Chamber of Secrets, I feel like he would have heard about what happened to Ginny. Maybe not the full details, it even could have been something like “Ginny was possessed by a diary”. But as an older sibling, I feel like I would definitely ask Ginny further questions, especially if my job was to deal with cursed or dark objects. I feel like if he knew about Horcruxs, he would have been able to put two and two together.

    23:16 i think what J means is the arm is still "attached" but with a non physical connection, like leaving the arm behind in the spirit world, for all intents and purposes its still attached to you but your arm is in the apparition tube beyond the reach of your brain to give and recieve signals, while you are here on earth. A Metaphysical connection.
    I dont think i agree though that it wouldnt be bloody. I've always imagined splinching as being a bit gruesome and bloody, and leaving behind an arm or a piece of you behind well your physical blood is syill gonna spill out even if the arm is "technically still attached.

    On the mental health impacting magic idea -- this reinforces my assumption that Filch wasn't a true squib. He was a wizard who accidentally turned the love of his life (Mrs Norris) into a cat, but couldn't undo it. He got so depressed he could no longer do magic, but tried to fix himself via the correspondence courses. A true squib would know that wouldn't work, but someone with a traumatic magical block might have a chance of recovery. It would also explain how he could see and interact with the castle without magic.

    In NYC, a port key might be a broken-down car ditched along the side of the Bruckner Expressway - no tires left (saw one on Sunday morning and the person I was riding with made jokes about it). That would certainly be big enough to allow LOTS of people to touch it at the same time. Now, of course getting to it would be a problem - but say instead you use one in a junkyard? And how many other large objects might one find in a junkyard? But then, you'd have to allow PLENTY of room at the other end, and Basil has to tell Arthur & Co. to step aside for the next group coming in.

    I get it J. Although it is in two separate places they are whole magically. Ron bleeds and feels the pain because it is the physical sensation. Remember wizards don't have the same physiology as muggles. Remember Neville's family didn't believe he was magical until he survived being dropped out the window by his uncle. Normally "magic is just science we don't understand yet " but in this case we are applying muggle science and logic to a magical situation.

    I always presumed that the 'ghost' of Harry's father modified or made the cup a port key that would return him to the school and that the original destination was supposed to be the area outside the maze but was modified to be the graveyard by Crouch when he placed the cup in the maze. Now that I think of it, if Dumbledore did the original port key charm and Crouch did an overriding charm and Dumbledore wasn't totally cancelled the return could have been a rare condition which was used by the 'ghost' of James to do the original transport.

    1:13:41 My head canon is pretty close to what you guys are talking about here. My thoughts were that Grindelwald enchanted his own eye with the elder wand to assist him in locating the other Hallows (possibly among other things). This would mean that Barty (Jr.) didn't see through the Cloak and spot Harry, but noticed the Cloak itself. He simply reasons out through context (Hermione's presence) that its Harry under the Cloak.
    As for how Dumbledore knows Harry is under the Cloak (or at least seems to) at times, I think that he placed an enchantment on the Cloak; that would let him know if it was nearby, while he was studying it after receiving it from James.
    That said I do like this Theory, however, if we're maintaining that the Cloak completly hides you from all detection, how do the Rackspurts find Harry (or are the produced by those lost in thought or the like, i.e. Harry)

    • @ThisIsAbstract
      @ThisIsAbstract 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Great theory, the only problem is he definitely sees Harry under the cloak when he is trapped in the trick stair, because Harry waves and mouths "it's mine" about the marauders map when Snape is reaching for it - that's how 'Moody' knew to get it first

    • @HvitUlf
      @HvitUlf 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Valid point. The fact that Barty Jr. makes a move to stop Snape from getting the Map before he even knows what it is makes it hard not to say he noticed Harry's plea.
      I have defaulted to the same way of thinking as Ben & J here. That is to say, it was the recognition of a patern associated with Harry. B&J noted that book never draws attention to Barty (Jr.) recognizing Harry's arm waving or mouthing of words, but he could have noticed the Rackspurts again, and assumed it was Harry once more. Thus the parchment must have belonged to Harry, and he needed Harry to stay out of trouble so he snatched it before Snape. I have it being the distortion or unique pattern of the Cloak that the eye marks the Hallow with.
