Great idea thanks. My ignition works but I may just install a switch and run some wire (without landing)as a backup plan. Things like this always seem to break when you're deep in the woods somewhere.
@@rickchristensen3530 is there a wire from the win module tied in with push button. I tried this on my 2012 1500 ram just at lthe fuse box I jumped the 2 wires u showed but it just runs the starter
This does work, the key switch goes out, cost several hundred dollars and has to be reprogrammed for about $300. More new junk BS. You can not climb under the truck and jump the starter like the old days because the solenoid post is protected. This is the quick fix and yes it works, I have done it. Periodically the key does nothing then goes out like it did when I turn the truck off to place an order. I pulled and replaced the relay several times and once with the key on I pulled it and when I plugged it back in, the started ignited and started the truck. Drove another 80 miles home, turned it off and would not start so tomorrow, I will install one in the dash. the first time I just attached it under the hood to test the starter solenoid and the switch worked for several months and started the crap again. Install this so you will not be stuck on the side of the road or pay a tow truck and mechanic $1500.

Could a problem with the WIN cause a vehicle to die while going down the road and make the vehicle activate engine immobilization/security system? 2012 Jeep GC Never has trouble starting just dies driving then won't start back until bypassing security?? Has already had fuel pump relay recall years ago, haven't had any issues with that.
It could be. The contacts inside the WIN module stop making good connections and it can lose continuity to any wire and cause all sorts of goofy things to happen

Joey D it’s still working great, I did get a CEL but it was for “wait to start lamp”. I’ve cleared it and it comes and goes. As far as other codes being caused from this as far as the ECM is concerned as soon as the key is on the ecm is just waiting for the engine to spin
Thank Rick, I just left the dealership, theyre fixing recalls, and got a quote for over $700 for ignition! I'm going to do what you did in a couple days. Any other advice or tips other than whats in the video? wire guage? Thanks again.
12 ga is fine. If you didn’t want to mess with the relays you could come off the with a fuse go to the new switch you install then right to the starter just cut the wire to the starter and connect yours to it
@@rickchristensen3530 hey Rick I have came across your post. Will this work for a 1500 hemi. I have replaced the win module 3 time and now it's doing the same thing. I'm so over this problem.
I have a 2010 Dodge Ram doing this. I turn the key several times before it ever starts. If I open up the win module and clean those contacts would that help? Or if I replace the win module should that fix it, and does it require reprogramming at a dealer since it's a new module and new keys?
It should be very similar to mine you can try hooking a jumper wire right from the battery and touch it to the starter solenoid and see if it turns over. To do this unplug the wire from the starter and connect a jumper wire to the starter. Then just touch it to the positive terminal on the battery. If the key is on it should turn over and start as if you tuned the key to start
No power to ignition, if the key is on then there’s a good chance the win module is no good at all, unless the security feature has been tripped. In that case the dealer will have to reset it
James Burdine correct. The ignition circuit in the win module must be on the fritz too. You might have to “wiggle” the key until all the lights come on before you crank. But if the win module is that bad it might just need to be replaced. I haven’t dared mess with the ignition power wire for fear of tripping the security light
Rick Christensen I think it might be some type of antitheft that doesn’t allow the fuel pump to kick when using the starter switch. I broke down the win module and cleaned what I could. But yeah it’s selective some times it cracks over no pressure sometimes you have to wiggle it.
I don’t think it would because at that point the ECM isn’t being told to “let” the engine run. You can test this really easily by getting a short wire and while the key is on touch the wire to positive battery terminal and the terminal under the relay that goes to the starter solenoid. The engine will crank and if it starts you’ll know you’re good to go. This way you don’t have to cut or drill or even buy anything to know if it work. This is what I did first before what I showed in the video because I’m cheap
Thank you for the reply. I will try what you suggested. My truck is immobilized. Tried a new pre-programmed ECU..no luck. Starting to think the WIN is bad, but a new programmed one is over $800! If i could just get it started, i could take it to get a remote start with immobilizer bypass module installed. Only $300. If you have any ideas on how to temporarily bypass the immobilizer, please let me know. Much appreciated! Thank you!
My win is bad to my truck is a fish floating no power to anything but lights and manual locks anyway to bypass the win module, who designed this crap is love to give them a piece of my mind.
You watch too much TV the wires you twist together are ACC and Run wires and the momentarily touch them with the start wire till the engine turns over and most shows show them touching two wires until it starts and then twist together. That would crank the starter and if the engine did miraculously start it would be the same effect that results from turning the key to start a car that's already running That was done intentionally to prevent people from stealing cars the same way you wouldn't fully disclose on TH-cam that adding Gasoline powder soap detergent and J---- as an immulcifyer for Na----. 😂
Rick i tried the short wire test from solenoid to positive and it cranks. No start. When i get a WIN malfunction the truck goes dead. I have to remove battery cables for a few mins then try again. Sometimes when i shut my door the power comes back.. same as smacking my steering wheel. I changed the battery in the fob and sometimes it works great for a week or so. Not sure if its the fob, the WIN module or door actuator. I bought it used. Fob wasnt in the greatest condition. Any pointers on where i can start to rule things out? Thank you
Ive ruled out the door actuator. I replaced the battery in fob. If i wiggle the fobik it kills the engine if running and kills the power if trying to start. Ive found that removing only the negative cable wasnt enough. I remove both pos and neg. wait about 2-3mins. And then it sometimes works.
