Gerardo - 2012 Dodge Ram here - 124,000 miles. Thank you brother! Your great video and instructions worked like a charm. Although I found your use of brake-cleaner quite bold, I found electronic cleaner at Auto Zone. Part came out in less than five minutes - got the electronic board out of the black box - sprayed vigorously, blew out with an air compressor - reinstalled (about 3 minutes) - started like a champ! Thanks for saving me a shitload of money buying the whole damn part outright. Works like new. Thanks my friend - Jim
Thank You !! This worked for me on my 2017 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman. My first attempt I tried a can of Mass Airflow Sensor Cleaner, didn't have the little straw so it was just misting the board. 2nd attempt I used a can of Non-Flammable Electrical Contact Cleaner with the little straw on the nozzle so I could direct the fluid directly onto the little black sensors that you can see standing up from the circuit board. I think mine is a newer version board. Blew it out with a can of compressed air let dry for 15mins. Plugged the module back in, inserted the key turned to ACC position The info center screen lit right up, door chime and radio came on, and it started right up.

Perfect. Used electrical contact cleaner spray from Autozone and then compressed air. Started right up. Jiggled the heck out of the key and it never cut out. Time will tell. Thanks, man.

I didn’t use brake clean. BUT i did take about 2 hours and cleaned my Key “ Fob” took it apart carefully and cleaned that like new and the same with the switch on the dash like you did . Cleaned it like brand new using magnifying glass and combo of Dawn Dish Soap. Mr Clean Magic eraser just squeezed the soapy stuff out of it a tooth brush. Micro Fiber towel and some vent cleaning brushes for my truck. Replaced the battery in the fob and made sure that was making good connections etc. Bam. Fixed! I think the everyday dust, dirt, grime gets into them both actually and makes for bad connections somewhere on them. So safe yourselves some money and clean clean clean like the man says in the video. Mopar aint getting my money nor was I willing to wait 4 months since on backorder . Thanks Joe 😉

Nahh dude it didn’t help , I went to OReillys my buddy had a discount card and I got it for 270, originally it’s 530$, pain in my ass,now I have to pay a extra 150$ to program the new keys I had to buy from Amazon

It's 2021 and this just helped me out with my truck. Some break cleaner and a can of compressed air (I don't have an air compressor on hand), about half an hour of cleaning and drying later. Truck runs almost like new. She's still a little finicky, but nowhere NEAR as bad as she was. Thanks man!
Thank you so much, went out pricing the WIN module and its replacement at the Dealer. Way too expensive. I took the module out, was hesitant to use anything more than compressed air. Replaced unit and my truck has been starting fine ever since. *Cleaning the WIN unit really works!
I believe you helped me fix mine as well. Took it apart last night and blew out all the dust with my compressor, then shot it with CRC Electronic Cleaner instead of brake cleaner (I have both on hand). After that I blew it out again and threw it back in. First off I noticed the key turns smoother and the trucks starts faster. Hopefully this is all I needed to do. Thanks again for the info

Thanks for posting this! After years of minor, sporadic starting issues, the truck shut off while highway driving today. Knew it must be switch related. Will try this out.
I would recommend using electrical contact cleaner instead of brakekleen. Certain types of brakekleen can eat the Varnish off of electrical coils and stuff. If that happens it will be junk. Just a heads up.
Bro this video saved me twice already last time about a year ago all I had was an air compressor so I just stuck the air in the ignition and it worked until this morning it started doing it again so I took it out and sprayed contact cleaner and it’s back on the road, I use this truck for the oilfield so there is dirty all over too
Mines just broke. I was trying to figure out what he meant by taking the clips out so i can separate the inside, My key is all lose when i stick it in looks like i have to go to the dealer and buy a new one come back install it then either get it towed to the dealership or call a locksmith to fab the new keys so it will start.

My 2012 started giving me the most grief last week and shut off 3 times during a long winter drive thru the mountains at night. My 2012 ram 3500;is doing the same thing too! Went and bought contact cleaner and can of air to blow it out . It’s been losing power when I drive and hit bumps . Going to take it apart tomorrow. I’m excited I’ll let you know when mines fixed too!

My 2012 1500 Ram truck has just begun to have this problem and I'm damn sure not going to spend a fortune on an ignition switch module. I plan on installing/hardwiring a simple push and hold button similar to a door bell button. I will wire it directly to the starter's solenoid switch. Of course, this will make it extremely easy for anyone to steal my truck.
LONG TERM FIX .. The method of spraying ( preferably electronic contact cleaner) will temporary clean the oxidation from the friction contact board pins. Over time they will get oxidized again. I carefully soldered all (about 6) friction contact / push in hole , board pins. Using electronic solder flux helps prevent bridging (connecting solder points that were not meant to be connected with solder). As there are various model of this start module , only do this to the (push pin in hole) friction contacts , NOT the wiper contacts if so equipped. IMHO this should have been done at the factory , would have prevented all of this, but also prevented what is undoubtedly a huge revenue stream. Sharing is caring , be kind to one another.

How is it now after 9 plus months? My 2012 Ram 3500 6.7l dirty work truck is doing the same thing, some times it takes multiple times to start. Other times it starts right up and if i wiggle the fob i can get it to cut off. Other times I'll be driving and the truck will just shut off, i have to throw it in neutral and start it again. Well i did this, with my ignition module and it worked for me, my truck starts every time. And no more randomly cutting off while driving. I disassembled mine and removed the solder from the pins that was holding the circuit board in place. Used crc electronics cleaner and air to dry it thoroughly. Then took fine sand paper to clean the contacts and slides real good, slightly bent the fingers outward to make better contact points. And reassembled the circuit board and soldered the holding pins back into place snapped the black housing cover back on and reassembled into the truck. And knock on wood it stays this way. Because the truck cutting off randomly was very dangerous. Because daily i cross 4 lane highways to get to and from my home.

My 2012 ram 1500 has been having problems starting up in the mornings usually. Started to think it was starter but I have to turn the key on and off a couple times and I hear clicking. Radio and lights turn on but does not crank after turning key a few times. Could this ignition switch be my issue. Truck starts after a turning the key on and off a few times. New it could not be the battery because I just bought it this year. Will try to clean the ignition switch and see if it starts up right.
For anyone having WIN midule issues. I have a 2010 dodge ram 1500 laramie. Mine starts and then shuts off after 3 seconds. This started after programming new keys. My fibiks keyless entry works as well as remote start but it dies when putting key in. I will try this and let you guys know if it fixes my issue.

2012 4x4 Ram I opened the black box used a quitip polled the cotton off rubbed the flat part carefully now it works perfectly thank you.

No homo i love you for this. I desoldered it and very lightly sanded the copper traces and sprayed it down with brake cleaner. Starts every time

New it could not be the battery because I just bought it this year. Will try to clean the ignition switch and see if it starts up right.
Great fix. I used CRC electronic cleaner. Works like new

For anyone having WIN midule issues. I have a 2010 dodge ram 1500 laramie. Mine starts and then shuts off after 3 seconds. This started after programming new keys. My fibiks keyless entry works as well as remote start but it dies when putting key in. I will try this and let you guys know if it fixes my issue.

@@bulletgg had to replace win module, dodge replaced and programmed. Costed me $900.
