    Thanks for the video my dude!! Not only was it annoying having my truck stall immediately after starting sometimes ten times in row it was dangerous when it would just shut off driving down the highway. Easy fix that any shop would have replaced instead of simply cleaning it

    Gerardo - 2012 Dodge Ram here - 124,000 miles. Thank you brother! Your great video and instructions worked like a charm. Although I found your use of brake-cleaner quite bold, I found electronic cleaner at Auto Zone. Part came out in less than five minutes - got the electronic board out of the black box - sprayed vigorously, blew out with an air compressor - reinstalled (about 3 minutes) - started like a champ! Thanks for saving me a shitload of money buying the whole damn part outright. Works like new. Thanks my friend - Jim

    Thank You !! This worked for me on my 2017 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman. My first attempt I tried a can of Mass Airflow Sensor Cleaner, didn't have the little straw so it was just misting the board. 2nd attempt I used a can of Non-Flammable Electrical Contact Cleaner with the little straw on the nozzle so I could direct the fluid directly onto the little black sensors that you can see standing up from the circuit board. I think mine is a newer version board. Blew it out with a can of compressed air let dry for 15mins. Plugged the module back in, inserted the key turned to ACC position The info center screen lit right up, door chime and radio came on, and it started right up.

    How is it now after 9 plus months? My 2012 Ram 3500 6.7l dirty work truck is doing the same thing, some times it takes multiple times to start. Other times it starts right up and if i wiggle the fob i can get it to cut off. Other times I'll be driving and the truck will just shut off, i have to throw it in neutral and start it again. Thanks for the video! To notch brother and gave it a like. Please update us how it is now after this time has gone by. Thank you!

      @BuggysTowJam 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well i did this, with my ignition module and it worked for me, my truck starts every time. And no more randomly cutting off while driving. I disassembled mine and removed the solder from the pins that was holding the circuit board in place. Used crc electronics cleaner and air to dry it thoroughly. Then took fine sand paper to clean the contacts and slides real good, slightly bent the fingers outward to make better contact points. And reassembled the circuit board and soldered the holding pins back into place snapped the black housing cover back on and reassembled into the truck. And knock on wood it stays this way. Because the truck cutting off randomly was very dangerous. Because daily i cross 4 lane highways to get to and from my home.

    I believe you helped me fix mine as well. Took it apart last night and blew out all the dust with my compressor, then shot it with CRC Electronic Cleaner instead of brake cleaner (I have both on hand). After that I blew it out again and threw it back in. First off I noticed the key turns smoother and the trucks starts faster. Hopefully this is all I needed to do.
    Thanks again for the info

  • @lightoday
    @lightoday 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    LONG TERM FIX .. The method of spraying ( preferably electronic contact cleaner) will temporary clean the oxidation from the friction contact board pins. Over time they will get oxidized again. I carefully soldered all (about 6) friction contact / push in hole , board pins. Using electronic solder flux helps prevent bridging (connecting solder points that were not meant to be connected with solder). As there are various model of this start module , only do this to the (push pin in hole) friction contacts , NOT the wiper contacts if so equipped. IMHO this should have been done at the factory , would have prevented all of this, but also prevented what is undoubtedly a huge revenue stream. Sharing is caring , be kind to one another.

  • @DanPark68

    I didn’t use brake clean. BUT i did take about 2 hours and cleaned my Key “ Fob” took it apart carefully and cleaned that like new and the same with the switch on the dash like you did . Cleaned it like brand new using magnifying glass and combo of Dawn Dish Soap. Mr Clean Magic eraser just squeezed the soapy stuff out of it a tooth brush. Micro Fiber towel and some vent cleaning brushes for my truck. Replaced the battery in the fob and made sure that was making good connections etc. Bam. Fixed! I think the everyday dust, dirt, grime gets into them both actually and makes for bad connections somewhere on them. So safe yourselves some money and clean clean clean like the man says in the video. Mopar aint getting my money nor was I willing to wait
    4 months since on backorder . Thanks Joe 😉

    My 2012 1500 Ram truck has just begun to have this problem and I'm damn sure not going to spend a fortune on an ignition switch module. I plan on installing/hardwiring a simple push and hold button similar to a door bell button. I will wire it directly to the starter's solenoid switch. Of course, this will make it extremely easy for anyone to steal my truck.

      Mines just broke. I was trying to figure out what he meant by taking the clips out so i can separate the inside, My key is all lose when i stick it in looks like i have to go to the dealer and buy a new one come back install it then either get it towed to the dealership or call a locksmith to fab the new keys so it will start.

    I see it worked well after that but I’m a little worried about spraying brake cleaner all over that? Can it not damage it?

    One thing you should never do is have extra keys on your key chain ONLY HAVE THE IGNITION KEY BY ITSELF NEVER HAVE EXTRA KEYS HANGING ALL THAT EXTRA WEIGHT WILL EVENTUALLY SCREW UP IGNITION
