@@davidtsmith33 Sorry I have literally just started myself and I'm still trying to grasp this. What does it actually mean by "see through enemies", is it referring to basically i-frames? Or am I just not getting it lol
@@wheelysteve"see through" is just the weirdest way to spell "parry". To be more precise, on smash stance it is a parry. On thrust stance, it is a dodge
THIS! Thank you! I remember gameplay trailers showing this but couldn’t figure out after launch how it was done I kept telling my friends there’s a parry
"See through" isn't actually a mistranslation error. It's the direct translation, and it's also the direct translation of the symbol in Sekiro. In martial arts, you "see through" (ie predict) your opponent's next move for a counter-attack.
The English explanation that you can “see through” an incoming attack is actually lore-consistent. In the myth of the monkey king one of his many abilities were “the eyes of fire and gold” i.e. able to see through the tricks of his enemies. By translating it this way the game is building on that lore, though perhaps a bit misleading since the counter move is rarely explained this way. My fav move is the back step poke btw I find it more fun to use for small enemies than resolute strike
@@dreamfield92 that's actually very cool. Never really looked into the lore of the monkey king only thing I know is Dragonball as that's inspired by it lol. I've started using the Poke more it seems to be really good. Only one I don't like is the pillar stance.

Something to point out... If an enemy has a multiple string attack you will only not take damage on their last string so make sure you're not using resolute strike in the beginning of their string.
How you explained your initial understanding is the exact way that I understood it. In fact, I had been using my heavy during light combos because I thought it was doing some sort of a resolute strike dealing additional damage. Clearly, I’m not paying close enough attention to realize that it wasn’t doing anything lol.

That’s makes so much sense cuz when I first unlocked it didn’t seem like I was seeing through the attacks but later on I stopped thinking about it cuz i got the next skill where u do another heavy again
You should also pick up the skill that allows you to use the heavy attack follow up after Resolute Strike. It DOES NOT consume a second focus point so long as resolute strike activates. It's basically free damage. Get it!
I've got it now. I didn't have enough points to spread by the time I was there cause that's very early in the game. You are right it's actually amazing 😊

it's not really hidden but translated in weird way, because in the skill video you can see him doing heavy when enemy attacks... if they just used word "parry" there would be zero confusion
That's such a weird mechanic. I'm fine with dodging anyway, but It's really odd of them to force the player to be attacking already AND have a focus point in order to parry. I like most of the mechanics in the game by now, but this is just weird to me.
I guess it's cause we are always attacking really and it gives you the option (if you don't have the skill that allows you to continue your combo after dodging) to finish the combo and be safe. It takes practice though.
LOL thanks, I was slow on discovering this video. I legit just gave up on trying to understand it because I'm pressed for time and just assumed it was an upgraded version of the 'varying combo' 😂
I just realized this on chapter 2 lol focus "gains" skill type is pretty much top 3 most important to get. Either from damaging and perfect dodging an attack
Thanks for this. Investing in this skill helped me greatly with those first two optional boss fights. I do hope that a patch comes out with a better English translation.
There's also a somewhat similiar “invincible” evade move in the thrust staff abilities. I believe it's the third and fourth one down the line, where you can press Y/△ and step back (third ability) and if you pressed it just as the enemy is about to hit you, you get invincibility briefly and can counter back with a stab (fourth ability).
This "see through" mechanic also works with Thrust Stance. Using Tactical Retreat at the correct timing during the opponent's attack, it activates Cloud Step then press Heavy Attack again to deliver an "unveiling" Forceful Thrust.
@@NvwaAqoKy2kg same here at the start I took it and was like "this doesn't do anything" since using it though. I use it against bosses and everything now. It's great being able to just go through attacks mid combo
I knew it since day one and thought it kinda busted, but I always forgot that it requires a focus point to perform which I prefer to save for big charge attack. There is also a skill allows you to continue your combo after a dodge that I feel less risky to execute.

For such a seemingly simple combat system there is so much nuance to it, I truly think it’s a step in a new direction for gaming of this style the combat system changes what a parry really is the dodge becomes the party and actually blocking an attack has a pretty large skill gap so combined if you are really good at the party and perfect dodge the potential fun in a no hit run is endless, I cannot wait to see some truly skilled players takes on this game the combat is incredibly fun and satisfying

The rock parry can be used during combos too. But it's a spell so it has a cool down where as this can be used as long as you are building focus up. I used it against bosses all the time now it's a lifesaver lol
It's not really a "mistranslation." People just can't understand what's being said. The explanation heavily implies that it's a counter, on top of keeping the immersion in play. "Seeing through" an enemy is much more unique, and true, than "Oh, here's a counter. Btw, this is a counter. Time it right and you get, you guessed it, a counter." No hate or anything🎉
I don't mind if it's hate, as long as it's helped people 😊. Thank you though. But yeah the mistranslation part that has confused people is the bit to do with the focus point I think. As it says "with a focus point consumed" which is past tense. So that's why it confused me. The video shows how it works but I thought I'd clarify 😁
@Solestro Huge emphasis on the "No hate" part, though, man. Cause, like you said, as long as it helps someone, ya know? This game just requires you to REALLY look at the descriptions. There's no shortcuts with the meanings and that's, to me, the fun part. Works on pretty much every attack i've ever tried, but don't do it at the start of a boss combo except if you know he will be stunned because the other instances of damage just after will get you. Also consider using the second relic to buff the "parry" window
I play in Chinese and I think the Chinese description is a bit clear, but still took me a while to figure it out. The problem with this "counter" ability is the consequence of missing it is too high as many even field mobs can take 25% of your health from single swipe at you. Many times it is better to spend your focus point in a safer way like just using it with heavy from a distance with all the stance moves.
nice! For those like me using the PS controller in version B, it appears that the heavy attack is mapped to R2 instead of the Triangle button, based on my understanding.
To simplify, when attacking using light attacks, instead of dodging the attacks of the opponent, simply press the heavy attack button to execute it (make sure you have a focus point)
The counter strike works with any varied combo, not just that particular slam. Once you get the moves for the other stances, you can use those moves to counter in different ways
For the sekiro players this is basically the equivalent of the makiri counter . In this case where it works to this games strength is you can have a combo string going then have an instant counter attack . It’s obviously something to get used to and by no means are these 2 exactly the same honestly how I describe it this game feels like a dash of devil may cry and dash of sekiro . I’m on the yellow wind boss the guy after tiger boss with sword and this move is honesty really good to combine with the stone move . So for those sekiro and dmc players treat this your royal guard / makiri counter . NOT A DEFLECT . truly this move can be timing of 1 hit then they swing then you press triangle . Or 1 -2 then they swing then you use it or even 1-2-3 use .
Yeah the wind guy was a pain when I started getting better with this move I pulled it out against him along with the rock counter like you said. He's one of the few bosses who beat my ass a few times lol. I really do wish this game had a deflect like Sekiro though I loved using that.
Each stance has a different skill to keep in mind and you need a point to spend as well. This is extremely difficult to practice on certain bosses. It's mostly safer to just focus on dodges unless you are using the thrust stance. Much more forgiving parry/counter or whatever you want to call it.
I use the smash stance one on bosses quite a lot now, ive never tried the thrust one but a lot of people are telling me its good. Once you get the practice and timing down for any of them im sure its easy :)
@@Solestro I'm just cleaning up stuff before my next playthrough but I still think thrust stance was easier to get the timing down over smash. Since smash still kept me in a lot of boss combo ranges. I'd still get hit more often. Thrust just moves you way out of the way.
Yeah, I was cracking that one up, I did get from the text what it should be, but couldn't get it right, it was more as happening by accident...but as you said once you master it, nice asset to the combos
It’s not just this move too. There’s a move on the thrust stance skill tree that allows you to see through things as well, tho it shows up further down the tree
@@someclevername8167 yeah I think someone mentioned that earlier to me in the comments. I've been focused mostly on smash, only just started putting some points into thrust lol. @@joshuadavis2175 yeah rock solid is really good especially if you spec into it. I've started using that a lot too. If you aren't good with timing cloud step is probably better though.
Wow I had no idea. Thank you. I was so confused about the description of that skill... The french translation is somehow even WORSE, cause it says that the Triangle-attack can "percer à jour" the ennemy. Which word-by-word means "to pierce the light of day", but is a french expression that we use to say "to reveal something, to bring the spotlight to" (I assume it's because it was translated from chinese to english, and then from english to french). SO basically, the french skill-description says that "If you use the precise strike by consuming a concentration point, you can REVEAL the opponent during that time". Needless to say that this doesn't mean anything in the context of that skill description lol. Neither literally, nor idiomatically. No wonder we got lost in translation. Also, does that counter thing works for other postures too ?
"during resolution strike, the destined one can see through the incoming enemy attacks and nullify their damage" so where is the part that doesnt explain the mechanic properly after seeing so many people in the comments relieved im kinda stunlocked, it just literally tells you what it does (even with a video clip) ive been using it since the start with no issues things to notice however it only works on the startup/windup animation so press it rather later than sooner same mechanic is attached to thrust stance later down the tree this mechanic gets extended, when you see through the enemy oyu get a free focus point and do your follow up with more damage its risky on some boss chain attacks since they dont get hardstaggered easily and you nullify the fist hit and take the second the skillpoint that lets you do varied combos without focus point doesnt let you parry the actual get out of jail freecard is dodging since it cancels animations, resolution strike is not instant depending in which part of the attack chain you are if you wait just half a second after light attacks you will start charging heavy attacks which fucks you over so only do it while mashing
You’d need a focus point to be able to perform a counter. Just keep that in mind. So gain a focus point is the first step. Just found out about this tonight
So effectively a more accurate translation should be:
During your light attack combo, performing a heavy attack will consume a focus point to perform a "resolute strike".
If timed during an opponent's attack, the Destined One will "see through" their action, nullifying the damage with a strong counter that can more easily stagger the target.

@@davidtsmith33 Sorry I have literally just started myself and I'm still trying to grasp this. What does it actually mean by "see through enemies", is it referring to basically i-frames? Or am I just not getting it lol
@@wheelysteve"See through" means predict their next move. That's how he nullifies the incoming damage
@@wheelysteve"see through" is just the weirdest way to spell "parry". To be more precise, on smash stance it is a parry. On thrust stance, it is a dodge
@@wheelysteveyeah, pretty much means s.
THIS! Thank you! I remember gameplay trailers showing this but couldn’t figure out after launch how it was done I kept telling my friends there’s a parry
Aww dude happy to help 😊 I knew it would help out some people! 😁
@@Solestrohere’s a little recording with some activated resolute strike and backstep attacks if of interest: th-cam.com/video/ROa1EZYnL2Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=S_8tMuqWW1vqq8ge around 1:15 and 1:35 respectively.
the backstep poke has more spacing options and you can choose to advance or retreat with ease after a full combo. Whereas I constantly find myself not sure what to do after a resolute strike other than standing there and watch the enemy getting up lol
Same also not into the pillar stance. I think you’ll need a ton of stamina for it to start getting interesting at all
Really useful video, thankyou. I'd had this very problem and re-read the in game skill description a million times and still couldn't work it out. Makes sense now!
@@Roger12345ish you are very welcome dude. Just happy the video is helping. It confused me for a good few hours when I first started so it thought there would be others having the issue 😁
Something to point out... If an enemy has a multiple string attack you will only not take damage on their last string so make sure you're not using resolute strike in the beginning of their string.
Yeah took me a couple days to realize this as well. Good that you’re putting it out there.
Just happy to be helping some other people. 😁
How you explained your initial understanding is the exact way that I understood it. In fact, I had been using my heavy during light combos because I thought it was doing some sort of a resolute strike dealing additional damage. Clearly, I’m not paying close enough attention to realize that it wasn’t doing anything lol.
I thought me showing my thinking as well would show people they aren't insane 😂. It's defo confusing. Once you learn it start using it though it's amazing.

Aww thanks dude, yeah some understood it fine but it's good it's helped some folk realise. Cause it's an amazing ability.
I read through that ability description 3 times and still didn't understand what it was trying to say. It is worded horribly! Thanks for the explanation
Yeah thats why i made the video, i even read the wording out on my stream and my brain broke a little. In english it doesnt make any sense, i gave up trying for a bit until i was like " I am not letting a mechanic go unused" lol
That’s makes so much sense cuz when I first unlocked it didn’t seem like I was seeing through the attacks but later on I stopped thinking about it cuz i got the next skill where u do another heavy again
@@solarowninja7609 yeah it's just super weirdly worded. Doesn't make any sense lol.
Wait it doesn’t cost a focus point? I thought seeing through an enemy just generated so much focus that you gained another point lol
Thank you so much! I was wondering how this worked and if there was a parry in the game 😅 I’m glad you also showed and mentioned that you take no damage when doing it correctly! Thanks again.

Didn't really understand what the skill was referencing so I decided to spend my Sparks on different abilities. This makes way more sense. Next Spark I get is going to this ability. Thanks!
Yeah defo get it it's really good 😊. I use it against bosses and everything now.
It's an Asian game, of course, it has hidden mechanics. I was finding out how to do things in DMC last week. That game came out in 2001. lol.
Haha I've played DMC since it came out on PS2 and always discover random shit lol. It's crazy isn't it.
it's not really hidden but translated in weird way, because in the skill video you can see him doing heavy when enemy attacks... if they just used word "parry" there would be zero confusion
@@morbid1. it literally says in the title of the skill "counterflow" lol, how many braincells you need to understand it?
God I started playing DMC 1 again and this is so true ahahaha
@@krejziks3398 Dafuq is a 'counterflow'? Does that make sense to you? This is why people use widely used terms, or else this happens.
It's basically parrying.
Even the move explanations are cryptic! I love this game!
Oh my! I fell so dumb now.. I’ve been these past two days trying to figure this attack … thank you for the explanation.
Dont feel dumb, everyone is in the same boat with this one, very badly translated lol. You are welcome :D
Putting a parry/counter move behind a limited resource is so weird.
Yeah im not a huge fan of it either, id rather be able to spin my staff and parry without using a point.
Okay this is how I’ve been using it since chapter 1. I don’t see how it’s a hidden mechanic. Counter is how I’ve understood it from the beginning
Dude thank you. I ended up respeccing and removing this ability because I could never get it to work. Guess I'll give it another go.
Bosses also have long combos that this counter or rock solid couldn't do much better than cloud step, the one allows you to reposition, heal, and charge up heavy. There is also a skill allows you to continue your combo after a dodge that I feel less risky to execute.
This skill needs a bigger window, it's really hard to pull off consistently, and when you miss on bosses it's basically rip.
@@chrisdfx1 once you get the practice it's not too bad. I'm good at doing it now, only reason I beat a secret boss in chapter 4 was due to doing the move consistently lol. It's hard until you practice it. Thrust is also good I've heard.
Hard to pull off but extremely satisfying. Especially when you get the follow attack for the varied combo. I actually saved clips of me practicing so i can see the timing, i can pull it off most time now.
Really well found discovery you found there, I couldn’t make heads or tails of that description either. So very useful to players that are new. Dude, thanks so much for this. Gonna test it before I head further in stage 2. It would have been helpful for my Tiger Vanguard fight. 😂
For such a seemingly simple combat system there is so much nuance to it, I truly think it’s a step in a new direction for gaming of this style the combat system changes what a parry really is the dodge becomes the party and actually blocking an attack has a pretty large skill gap so combined if you are really good at the party and perfect dodge the potential fun in a no hit run is endless, I cannot wait to see some truly skilled players takes on this game the combat is incredibly fun and satisfying
wow I thought it was weird there was no parry, I know there's rock parry but you have to press RT+Y not as easy to time. the fact you can do this while spamming light attack changes everything
The rock parry can be used during combos too. But it's a spell so it has a cool down where as this can be used as long as you are building focus up. I used it against bosses all the time now it's a lifesaver lol
heyyyy thank youu. Im playing the game in spanish ans its also confusing. Now it makes a lot more of sense
@@roger829 you are very welcome 😁
Thanks man, It drove me crazy.
Yeah me too thats why i made this trying to explain it lol. Seems it drove a lot of folk crazy xD
It's not really a "mistranslation." People just can't understand what's being said. The explanation heavily implies that it's a counter, on top of keeping the immersion in play.
"Seeing through" an enemy is much more unique, and true, than "Oh, here's a counter. Btw, this is a counter. Time it right and you get, you guessed it, a counter."
No hate or anything🎉
I don't mind if it's hate, as long as it's helped people 😊. Thank you though. But yeah the mistranslation part that has confused people is the bit to do with the focus point I think. As it says "with a focus point consumed" which is past tense. So that's why it confused me. The video shows how it works but I thought I'd clarify 😁
@Solestro Huge emphasis on the "No hate" part, though, man. Cause, like you said, as long as it helps someone, ya know?
This game just requires you to REALLY look at the descriptions. There's no shortcuts with the meanings and that's, to me, the fun part.
All that aside, respectfully, maybe adjust the title, BUT keep up the good work😤 Despite my takes, this was a short and concise vid that did explain a different perspective on a mechanic. Judging from the comments, people needed it! So, thank you for helping out🎉

Found this by mistake but had no idea it counts as a parry, I was thinking that the boss is weak to stun and that's why he's interrupted.
Yeah it's very good for interrupting. Also avoiding damage from big attacks.
I UNDERSTAND!!! it's actually very simple, thank you very much, you saved me a lot of time🤩🤩🤩
I was able to understand it because of the title saying counterflow. This is my go to move in the game.
my guy... THANKYOU! i wish i knew this before the big ol bear and his human form, but im on chapter 2 now so this will be very handy!
its not much, but heres a sub and like hahah! thankyou again my friend
Works on pretty much every attack i've ever tried, but don't do it at the start of a boss combo except if you know he will be stunned because the other instances of damage just after will get you.
Also consider using the second relic to buff the "parry" window
This is amazing . A kind of parry mechanic
Yup :D
Now try to prove these 3 skills aren’t broken:
Secondary damage, evanescence, stagnation
I play in Chinese and I think the Chinese description is a bit clear, but still took me a while to figure it out. The problem with this "counter" ability is the consequence of missing it is too high as many even field mobs can take 25% of your health from single swipe at you. Many times it is better to spend your focus point in a safer way like just using it with heavy from a distance with all the stance moves.
nice! For those like me using the PS controller in version B, it appears that the heavy attack is mapped to R2 instead of the Triangle button, based on my understanding.
Ah yeah i always forget about different control schemes. Thank you for clarifying :D
i was super confused last night thank you.
@@glenigjurra7818 no probs I was exactly the same 😂
To simplify, when attacking using light attacks, instead of dodging the attacks of the opponent, simply press the heavy attack button to execute it (make sure you have a focus point)
The counter strike works with any varied combo, not just that particular slam. Once you get the moves for the other stances, you can use those moves to counter in different ways
I remember reading that and thinking that's what it was Perry with an attack but then forgot about it. But I've definitely done this on accident
I didnt even do it on accident once lol, you did better than me xD I had to try to figure it out
I do this attack all the time and never knew it was a counter! It’s basically like the two dragons sword in lies of p!
I didnt get much use out of that weapon as i was always strength lol, but it was a cool ass sword in lies of P
Thank you. I was wondering what the heck they meant by "seeing through" enemy attacks.
I knew the wording made no sense. Awesome video and great tip. Earned my sub.

Extremely helpful! Thank you! 👍
Im still stuck on the Wondering Wight at the start of the game........ 🤣 Amazing tip man, thankyou. Might be able to make some progression

My eyes have been opened ❤
Mind blown :p
@@Solestro yes exactly 😂
"during resolution strike, the destined one can see through the incoming enemy attacks and nullify their damage"
so where is the part that doesnt explain the mechanic properly after seeing so many people in the comments relieved im kinda stunlocked, it just literally tells you what it does (even with a video clip) ive been using it since the start with no issues
things to notice however it only works on the startup/windup animation so press it rather later than sooner
same mechanic is attached to thrust stance
later down the tree this mechanic gets extended, when you see through the enemy oyu get a free focus point and do your follow up with more damage
its risky on some boss chain attacks since they dont get hardstaggered easily and you nullify the fist hit and take the second
the skillpoint that lets you do varied combos without focus point doesnt let you parry
the actual get out of jail freecard is dodging since it cancels animations, resolution strike is not instant depending in which part of the attack chain you are
if you wait just half a second after light attacks you will start charging heavy attacks which fucks you over so only do it while mashing
Thank you mate, I was wondering how that worked
Makes me wonder what else was mistranslated.
A few things lol... Or things that just aren't explained, like the recent video I have done lol.
You’d need a focus point to be able to perform a counter. Just keep that in mind. So gain a focus point is the first step. Just found out about this tonight
Yeah thats the only annoying thing about the parry, but you build focus fast when you upgrade certain things so usually not an issue
