@@St4rTr3v1Ut10n it generates focus, can regain mana and cool down if successful, can boost attack after the parry, and can create an opening to unleash a charge attack. So either get hit by taking eyes off enemy or get hit trying to parry then found out no focus point. In the end it's much better to be hassle-free and just dodge the attack.
It's actually more like a counter than a parry because you won't be using this without doing some light attack first (in addition to having the focus points required to activate it). Also, I think the game pretty much makes it clear that it's an offensive mechanic rather than a defensive since technically, its purpose is so that the enemy won't interrupt your combo chain when trying to attack you. That's red glow is just a prox of activating your focus points to do a heavy damage, the instructions say it nullifies the damage, which means the enemy was not knocked back in a parry state, the enemy finished his attack and it was nullified not parried. Once you get the hang of dodging their close/medium/long range moves, you will easily bring them down below 25%. I also upgraded the skill to get more Moderate Focus from Perfect Dodges and this can be upgraded twice. This is a very good skill to have aside from Staff Mobile Spin generating Focus on enemies. The only problem is being able to find 2-3 seconds to charge up all Focus on Heavy Attack because sometimes the boss will kinda rush you with moves, so there are times when its okay to be farther away and just hit with charged Thrust/Pillar Heavy Attack. Thrust is best for counter while Pillar is best for "avoiding" damage, but there's many cases where your Stamina will decrease because your staff still gets hit by an attack, even projectiles, and even you can get hit by projectiles. Thrust is usually better depending on the situation.
Game is amazing but the timing on parry and dodge varies, sometimes it feels like a dodge is "canceled" and you get hit even before you are actually hit. This game is a total love hate. I knew about this very early, but when I unlocked it, I struggled heavily to make it work consistently. I didn’t really understand the timing for it or if it cancelled the light attack animation or not. I know normal varied combos don’t cancel so they have to be used at the end of a light attack animation. The 3rd and 4th light attacks have much longer animations than the first two so committing to them can get you in trouble unless you cancel it with a dodge. The thrust stance’s tactical retreat skill works the same exact way, but it’s one of the last skills in that tree. Pillar stance does not but it already has inherent properties that allow you to avoid attacks.
be careful, this counterflow can only be activated *after* your current light swing. If you are swinging the stick towards the enemy, the counter won't be activated.
This is basically it, this is the most important, although you have focus point but not timing it right a.k.a in the middle of swinging animation, it won’t trigger, this is the case most of the time, not the focus point thingy.
It’s best used in combination with dodges- would be awesome if you could stand there and parry everything, but so far I think not everything is parryable (like in sekiro 99% of attacks are able to be deflected, but I’d say more like 70% of attacks can be parried with resolute counterflow or the thrust stance version)

I barely ever use it cuz it's kinda situationaly. This actually a lot easier to do with bosses because their attacks are easier to see and you fight them longer to get the timing. Most random NPCs die in a few hits. Not even worth the effort.
The Resolute Counterflow is frustrating to use because of they way they designed it. If you could press heavy attack right before being hit by the enemy even while your light attack is in motion to activate it then it would be really fun and satisfying to use. However, you can only activate it AFTER a light attack move has finished so the two windows of the light attack being done PLUS the enemy striking have to line up in order for the Resolute Counterflow to active. That’s just bad design imo.
you just need more practice. if you watch any of those no hit boss fight videos, you'll see a lot counterattcks, it is very effective, and a successful counterattck immediately gain you another focus point
The game would genuinely be less frustrating if animations don't lock you out of your inputs. If I press a button it should perform that action immediately.
bro what you're doing is a combo attack, two times square and one time triangle triggers that combo and if you have enough focus points you can even trigger a resolute strike.
Just a heads up. U can get knocked out of that counter smash by bosses (possibly regulars but i didnt rlly pay attention to most). So u need to time it well...
are you sure its hidden? The text in game explains that you take no damage and make the enemy easier to stagger. Its my favorite parry so far. If you mistime this parry, it becomes an attack with some poise and it will always combo with triangle into a bigger move with nice stagger. ( needs upgrade). It also moves wukong, so it might dodge things too, a safety mechanism with the parry. I feel that dark souls was too much. Parrying the weapon hand gives a concussion somehow. This one opens enemies up to a big combo that can knock them down. Makes more sense.
@@mellar5864 does it mean 1/4 focus points? Or all but one consumed? Or does it mean it right after consuming the only focus point we had. The inferences are endless.

Now that Im seeing this in action over and over I'm gonna treat the timing like substitution jutsu instead of parry, maybe that will help!
Thrust is better for parrying when you have the whole tree unlocked with the second relic
I've played this game for 50 hours and have not once used Thrust with any kind of efficacy. It always misses or I get hit while charging. You have no argument, you're just a liar
@@St4rTr3v1Ut10n it literally makes you invulnerable if you pull off a max focus parry. Sounds like a skill issue lmao
@@yaboibSLT Ahh yes another NPC who doesn't know how to talk to a real human being. Post a video of you doing it effectively or you're just making shit up. Your game must be bugged to where bosses don't jump around like they're supposed to
@@St4rTr3v1Ut10nuse the thrust stance varied combo dumbass
@@St4rTr3v1Ut10n you're the one who came into this with the assumption I'm a liar despite the game showing a demo of how it functions. Whether the boss moves away from your retaliation isn't up to you. Tell me how terminally online you are without saying so by assuming I'm an NPC with no proof 😅
This actually a lot easier to do with bosses because their attacks are easier to see and you fight them longer to get the timing. Most random NPCs die in a few hits. Not even worth the effort.
I don’t know, I always favored the cool perfect dodge over this.
I wish they put in a parried animation for the enemies and see them actually stagger.
Of course I find this right after I closed the game 😭. Hopefully I'll remember to do it tomorrow
Being this far and not having smash maxed is crazy
Off note, that 4 legged knee fire breather is horrifying
The main mechanic of the game and one of the first you unlock is considered a hidden mechanic? Well, alright then.
Ya, I've been doing this, and you do need at least one focus point built up to do it.. it's part of the varied combo, I think..
I left a comment but deleted it making fun of ur accent. 😂 but this actually helped so I gave a like
The Resolute Counterflow is frustrating to use because of they way they designed it.
@@meowmeow3413 I know I can do it fairly consistently, but that doesn't stop it from being poorly designed
So that's why I was missing it so many times and here I thought it's my skill issue
The game would genuinely be less frustrating if animations don't lock you out of your inputs. If I press a button it should perform that action immediately.
The game is already easy and this would just make it even more braindead.
I was like....
"What? You can parry?"
Then you started to talk..
"Yup. That's right. You can actually parry in Black Myth Wukong".
bro what you're doing is a combo attack, two times square and one time triangle triggers that combo and if you have enough focus points you can even trigger a resolute strike.
So you have to have a focus point built up. So if it doesn’t work check your focus.
The thing is this doesn’t offer a real damage opportunity like in souls. Still a nice to have
You need focus point to do this 'parry' attack, its good
I wish they just added the parry mechanic to the game. Would’ve made the game perfect
Just a heads up. U can get knocked out of that counter smash by bosses (possibly regulars but i didnt rlly pay attention to most). So u need to time it well...
yeah its a funny one with bosses since it doesnt actually stagger them or at least i havent staggered one yet using the parry
are you sure its hidden? The text in game explains that you take no damage and make the enemy easier to stagger.
Its my favorite parry so far. If you mistime this parry, it becomes an attack with some poise and it will always combo with triangle into a bigger move with nice stagger. ( needs upgrade). It also moves wukong, so it might dodge things too, a safety mechanism with the parry.
I feel that dark souls was too much. Parrying the weapon hand gives a concussion somehow. This one opens enemies up to a big combo that can knock them down. Makes more sense.
I like to use poke stance and then switch to smash once the enemy starts to engage.
You also need to have "one focus point consumed" for it to work. Whatver that means.
That just means you need to have at least 1 focus point to do it btw
how tf is that hard to understand, it literally means what it says
@@mellar5864 does it mean 1/4 focus points? Or all but one consumed? Or does it mean it right after consuming the only focus point we had. The inferences are endless.
The explanation is too ambuguos. Prolly due to translation errors.
To do most any varied attacks takes a skill point, and another to follow up. You can also charge up all 4 focus points to build up a charge attack, consuming all 4 and doing the most damage. Generally comes out with the heavy button.
Here I was thinking the rock spell was the parry.
thanks bro ,i could've used this ages ago🤬
It’s like a Baltimore and London accent mix together. With a dash of Aussie
English isnt my first language i know my accent is wild
Think you could showcase the counter in the thrust stance?
I hate that guy in the temple with the Delayed Air Punches.
You need a focus point to activate it. Only happens then. The description says that
If it consumes a focus point it’s not really a parry. A parry you should be able to spammed if timed correctly
You need one point of concentration, that’s why sometimes it didn’t happened
This was helpful. Thanks.
Resolute counter flow, is a counter attack…
An actual parry is a spell Rock Solid
Thanks, really helpful 🙂
im glad it helped
What staff are you using with the electricity
I wanna also know 😅
U need to kill secret boss and after u kill the lightning white dragon on chapter 3 then u can craft it, u can search weapon guide on TH-cam.
Am I correct in seeing that the light attacks don't even need to land in order to pull this off?
