    I found it funny, but would like to share. Both the brackets on amazon have been sold so many times that the Industrial Velcro is now a suggested bundle.

  • @dumwyteguy
    @dumwyteguy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I used the same clamps and velcro but on a $60 office chair from Target, mounting my Thrustmaster T.16000M HOTAS and because the armrests slant down and *FORWARD*, was able to place them at a more comfortable height. So far this is the most practical and cost-effective HOTAS chair setup I've seen, thanks!

      @dumwyteguy thanks for your comment, I just bought the same HOTAS and this verifies that the brackets will work for me.

    Thanks so much for posting this!!! I just got these In 2 days ago, had to use a rubber washer to fill a gap to get it tight, but it’s great I love it!! Was a bit difficult to find the mounts now though as amazon no longer carries them. I found them on NewArk for $24 each!!

    Super useful. I just ordered the exact same pieces and X52 Pro. Good thing my chair has the arm pieces completely vertical so I can mount them at the exact height I need. One tip for you would be, wrap your arm rest with two scarfs so they create the height you need for your joystick.
    Good job!!!!

    Damn Bumble, this is genius brother. I bought a playseat last year with a thrustmaster base, shifter & clutch. So I play project cars & Vive with that setup. My space games have been suffering though. Next month or month after I'll copy this setup. I wish motion seats were a bit down in price, motion + Vive = true immersion. Appreciate this Bumble.

      Nice, I have been looking into a racing wheel setup, might just go with the playseat. A motion setup is the dream but yeah they're way too expensive

    Not sure if your flight controller manufacturers them (or has hardware mounting capability), but I ended up making a VESA -> X-55 Rhino HOTAS mount that I was able to then install (VESA mount -> converter mount -> HOTAS). It was pretty easy to make, just bought a 1/8" or so thick aluminum plate from Lowes, drew the outline of the HOTAS, cut them out with a Dremel (I went through a TON of blades, so you want a blade that is designed for metal). Then drilled holes for the VESA mount, then drilled holes for the HOTAS. After putting it all together, I didn't have any issues with the joysticks and throttle from falling off :p

    Wanted to stop in Bumble and say thanks for the inspiration. I've seen other howto's with similar setups, but I really appreciate how real and natural your video is...how you create a simple straight up video that makes us feel like we're just hanging out.
    I went with the Wart Hog, the mount plate(with poles underneath[for a crazy expensive game chair]) and ended up hard mounting the panel side to the bottom of my chair so the clamps will hold the poles of the mount plates...very solid and absolutely worth the price on Amazon. Couldn't see spending $500 on a chair system, or $380 for desk clamps...
    All told, I spent $100 and don't need an extra chair floating around.
    Even though I reversed it, and have seen other vids like yours, just wanted to say; Thanks, yours was the inspiration. Hope to see you out in the Black Commander...o7

      this is useless for SC... because you will sit cramped when moving from ship controls to first person shooter/ character controls. - its a nice workaround for ED because there you only control ship and rover and maybe use keyboard for typing in galaxymap, thats it. but for SC the only solution is to mount the stuff to table in away were it doesnt obstruct the keyboard and mouse at the same time

    I use a tall mic boom stand, with retractile badge holders and rubber bands, keeps the cable from the VR headset up and out of the way, just have the top part loose so it swivels around and have no issues using my headset anywhere in my room. Anyways, thank you! I have a Respawn chair that has the same style of armrests, and I like it, don't want to switch chairs to be able to use Moinstertech's mounts, so this should work great. Now, I just need to improvise something to lock my swiveling chair, so using rudder pedals is easier.

    • @theredbeardedfox3110

      I actually went with double armed ones, as I will have to mount at a lower point as there's huge "knobs" on my chair where you mounted yours, so I will have to mount lower. But I'll have even more options for positioning and adjustability... Had to shell out more dough though

    I just went to home Depot, got a couple of L brackets, 1/16in steel plates. Cut the steel plates with an angle grinder (took forever, would of loved a plasma cutter), drilled holes in the arms, bolted the L brackets with wing nuts (so I can easily remove without tools), bent the L brackets up by hand a bit, drilled more holes and bolted everything together. Not fancy whatsoever but it works and it was like 10-15 bucks is supplies. I could file some edges up a little bit more, I would not say it's child safe lol. To add to the ghetto factor, I put some drink koozies on my armrests for comfort since they are unpadded.

    I'd just go ahead and just mount those at the steep angle to use as a base then design a custom extension off of that to get the angle/elevation I want. Could prototype with cardboard or blocks of wood to get the desired shape/dimensions then fabricate final design out of metal.

  • @psyanide1603
    @psyanide1603 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Or, if you prefer the stick infront of you, you could just use some sticky back heavy duty Velcro to secure it no-fuss to your desk along with the throttle, works a treat. But then that's me, I find to the side just doesn't feel natural, to the front feels precise.

    • @P0intL3ader75
      @P0intL3ader75 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      in Elite Dangerous all sticks are setup that way, so that when you do use a HOTAS setup the throttle and the stick is where you'd expect them to be as you see them in VR.
      Personally I built a cheap but nice looking rig with a proper racin chair and a wide deck that I mounted it all to on the sides forward. That way the chair can't move nor swirl around its pivot.

  • @dumwyteguy
    @dumwyteguy 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just received these clamps and promptly mounted them; I think you could have saved effort by not reorienting, and also because the pivot point furthest from the clamp is already aligned, it would have reduced the elevation of your joystick. Good vid though bro

      mega.nz/#!hlc31AqS!C-Frwnm7CfX4VDO4T9wg2WjKFSx9U7BybGE5Ugla0R8
      Here's a diagram with my x52 keybinds if you want to use them:

      Thanks, I'm trying out the bind in training missions,to get use to it before V.R. Question,How do I enable Modifier mode,silver knob on joystick to blue mode?Modifier 1 , Modifier 2 . everything in gray text?

    • @Bumble49
      @Bumble49  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jerry Knapp The modifier buttons are just buttons that can be combined with other buttons for a key bind. For example Modifier 1 + Scroll wheel on throttle is next/previous target. Modifier 2 + Pinky Trigger toggles orbit lines.
      Stuff in grey means that's how the button functions in interface mode.

    You can skip most of this if you simply have enough c clamps and scrap steel with 90 deg. bends.. Its easy I have made "commander seats" out of many chairs as long as they had arms office chairs/ cushy chairs/ recliners you name it.. However, this does look more appealing then what Im generally happy with...though I do like ability to pivot lil tables for mouse/speedpad/sticks

      Yeah, I use a Mainstays mid-back office chair. I originally had the single-joint mounts, but had to switch to the double-joint for the joystick. The end result is my mount is now parallel with the arm, but the joystick is just slightly off to the side. The only downside is that I have slightly less leg room.

    Hi Bumble. Can you please share the links for these mounting brackets? You have no idea how I broke my head to find a solution to fix my X52Pro to my DX racer chair. I will just go to Staples with these brackets and will try to make them fit on a chair and will buy it. I never been able to enjoy the real experience of my X52Pro because it was always sliding on my desk. The suction cups are not good for wooden surfaces and the ergonomics are not very good. A chair like this is this is the best solution. Thanks so much.

      Hi, here is a link to the mounting brackets, but keep in mind they probably won't work on a DXracer chair. In the beginning of the video I pull out my DXracer chair to show how they don't fit:

      Hi Bumple. Thanks a lot for the link. You are right about the DX racer and these brackets. That's why I was talking about buying another chair made for this. I saw your wheel also. I heard this one is very good. I bought a Logitech G27 last week and very good but my problem is the installation. Same with the X52 pro. Wherever I install them, they always move away. I think my best alternative is to go with a GT Omega steering wheel stand with a V1 and a V2 Gear mount:
      ca.gtomegaracing.com/index.php?_route_=gt-omega-steering-racing-wheel-stands/gt-omega-racing-wheel-stands/gt-omega-steering-wheel-stand
      This way we can have a stand for our wheel, pedal and shifter And we can also convert it in a cockpit with the X52 Pro with a keyboard and mouse on the front panel. The full cockpit rigs with racing seat are awesome and affordable but I don't have enough space for this in my living room. Thanks a lot.

      That looks like a great stand! Using that stand as a cockpit with KBM and HOTAS sounds sounds great! For a game like Elite: Dangerous you do need the keyboard sometimes for the galaxy map. You can also mount some flight pedals on there for flight sims.
      I am using this steering wheel stand:
      www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GP3RUI6/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=bumble0b-20
      The platform on mine is too small for a good HOTAS setup though. Maybe once the VR tracked keyboards come out, I will grab a stand like that for Elite: Dangerous.

      Great idea mate! Me too. I saw the one you sent me but I did not like the bar between the legs. Maybe I'm wrong but it looks so annoying. If we ordera kit of GT OMEGA STEERING WHEEL STAND, we need to add 2 Gear mounts I think. A V1 and a V2. Notice that this product is actually back order on this website. It says: This product is a pre order and will be shipped on: 12/01/2018. They sell it on amazon but they don't offer the option to add extra mounts for the shifter/X52 Pro. The best is to place the order and be patient. I will contact them first to ask them if the 2 extra trays are big and stable enough.
      X52 Pro: PHYSICAL SPECIFICATIONS
      Stick:
      Length: 17 cm
      Width: 17 cm
      Height: 27.8 cm
      Weight: 905 g
      Cable Length (Power/Charging): 1.4 m
      Throttle:
      Length: 17 cm
      Width: 17 cm
      Height: 19 cm
      Weight: 728 g
      Cable Length (Power/Charging): 1.4 m
      Here's the individual trays but Omega did not mention the dimensions:
      ca.gtomegaracing.com/index.php?_route_=gt-omega-racing-accessories/gt-omega-wheel-stand-accessories/gear-shifter-mount-for-gt-omega-wheel-stand
      I have a friend from Normandy in France who bought this kit. It's not very expensive. THey see it on the sime of Omega but it takes a lot of space lol. This:

      I don't think so, because your arms are blocked when you want to use mouse and keyboard, for running around with character.... SC you need keyboard and mouse when exiting pilots seat too when you use joysticks for flying

  • @warlockcommandcenter

    Why could you not have added a piece of aluminium rectangular bar stock to mount the mount to the gaming chair or even just build a mount that flat clamps to the chair I'm thinking cut and drill 8-10 holes and bolt it together

    • @Bumble49
      @Bumble49  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it would be possible to mount it to the gaming chair with some tinkering but I wanted a separate chair anyways

    The magic missing piece here is a wide 2'6" x 2' plywood with a half moon cut out of it to make room for your stomach as a chair tray. All your controls would be bolted to the tray. The tray would be held onto the chair arms with shop jig clamps such as those made by Bessey or DeStaCo. Look for these in tool supply shops that specialize in woodworking.
