This is actually pretty well done (especially for the low cost). One of the better chair mods i have seen so far on yt. One can see you really thought this through. Nice work!
Thank you! After watching this, i couldn't help myself and I made your chair mod a few hours after I posted that comment. lol It is so nice and much more convenient to use. I love it!
Dooooood! That is awesome! You did a GREAT job, man... I can't believe that I actually have the same chair, and the X52 setup, and it NEVER occurred to me to put them together. I'm SOOOOOOOO doing this. You inspired me, lol!
I've been trying to find a decent setup for my HOTAS on the desk, it never occurred to me to mount it on my chair! Pure genius and a big doh for me! Nice work sir.
Job well done! Watched many videos regarding setting up chairs for HOTAS, some of which were very technical, and I must say you did a brilliant engineering job here. Simple and very functional. Thank you for posting. Please keep up the good work.
I've been watching videos like this all day. Some people are selling expensive rigs out of extruded aluminum girders, or custom chairs by building custom steel bases with Recaro racing chairs and whatnot. I started building a Rube Goldberg thingy out of wood to attach to my desk to place my sticks on, but it looks like poo-poo. I like your idea of getting an old office chair, removing the arms, bolting wood panels on the sides, and building mounting surfaces onto those for the sticks. Another guy bought a pair of clamps to clamp to the arms of the chair and then using Velcro to attack the sticks of the clamps. That looks like it works pretty good, too.
I was looking for some DIY ideas for my SC chair and wound up here. Don't feel too bad about about your arm rest wrapping. I've had two wives and lots of girlfriends and not a single one of them could wrap a gift to save their lives! Good job on the chair. I plan on doing something similar w/ two 16000's on a recliner :)
i have seen a lot of these types of chair designs many even built their chairs from scratch but this one was the best I have seen so far :D I love that the chair still looks like a damn chair lol and its not that hard to re-create to my own chair thank you very much for the video!
This is more my style. I have a similar chair. Although I'd like to have the mounting area for the joystick/throttle either be removable or swivel/fold out of the way when not in use. Another need is for a spot to use the mouse and keyboard (for when you EVA your ship in star citizen). Great project overall and thanks for sharing!
awesome work, i'm going to try doing the same thing, my only problem is I have the Thrustmaster Hotas X which doesn't have nice neat little square bottoms, it has these giant rounded bases that are going to stick out so I may have to modify the arms slightly.
nice work man! Same HOTAS set-up as me... looks like I have another DIY project to add to my SC needs checklist haha! That and the DIY TrackIR! Nice work man. What's your in game name (pm me)? Should get some vanduul together!
Nice job, Im actually copying your design for the most part. The only thing I changed really was I put very large washers between the wood and the screws and I added an 1/8th inch piece of steel spanning the very top lug to the bottom lug of the 4 arm mounts for extra support. Im a metalworker so wood makes me nervous in terms of strength lol. imgur.com/a/m0k1m
jake i nice job. I also would recommend offsetting the two screws on the arm rest where the cushion rest. When using the joystick constantly it has weakened and i get movement. It has been strong for over a year but time and use highlighted weak spot.
I actually added gussets to the arms when i saw how much overhang there was so that shouldnt be an issue, I aslo added extra extensions for a mouse and keypad as well. imgur.com/a/qeXwZ P.S. don't use plasti-dip when the cans are warm, it caused massive runs in the finish on the lightest coat, luckily i was able to make it look good on the surfaces that people would see with quick action with some paper towel then a hefty re-coat with room temp cans so no worries.

Have to say, for me, this is the best and most practical way to set up a HOTAS I have seen online thus far. Excellent!
Sky Kadet thanks for the awesome comment!

Sky Kadet oh nice! What games you play with the hotas?
Cool! Love the padding rest for your forearms. Gotta try to make one. Thanks for sharing.

I am looking around at different ideas like this, I liked it.
Dude that looks really nice. Great idea.
Thanks!
That came out beautiful.

I did that with an old armchair. Pretty comfy.

Nice work, and well done on doing it yourself...It came up looking good
graeme bourne Thank You!

If you are close enough to your desk and leave your keyboard on the desk you wouldn't need it in the chair
AWESOME!! I think I will do something like this. Not sure what controller setup I will use but thanks for the idea!!!!
Good job ! As a side note I have yet to meet an upholsterer that doesn't swear more than a sailor.
Had to watch your video because I did the same thing for elite dangerous, now I'm sitting here adding rudder pedals and a cup holder for msfs.. Lol.
Very nice. I did something similar but have not added cushions. Thanks for the inspiration.
Good work citizen. I like it, I might just schedule a project.
I've been looking for this type of setup for my X65. I'm also thinking of finding a way to mount rudder pedals
*GREAT JOB!*
You inspired me to attempt this myself.
Now, if you really wanna _wow_ me,
convert one of those strollers for a HOTAS for your kid
:)
wife said no :(
I thought it turned out well very well indeed sir 👍👏
Well I think you did a great job! Looking for a chair to buy but want to do something like this to it for the Gaming hotas
That's actually a great idea. Might do this with my Thrustmaster HOTAS X.
Thats awesome! Sweet job... A little high for me. Maybe a few more mounting holes and it would be adjustable in height. Thank you for sharing.
thank you for your kindness

Very nice! Inspired me to come up with a better set up for my Saitek X52 hotas.
Ha actually looking at what others did for mounts for star citizen myself. Looks like it should work just fine.
Dude!! That looks amazing!! I'd like to try something similar, but I'll need help for sure.
nice work man! Same HOTAS set-up as me... looks like I have another DIY project to add to my SC needs checklist haha! That and the DIY TrackIR! Nice work man. What's your in game name (pm me)? Should get some vanduul together!
Thanks! I had a fun time building it and even better time using it. Never been more comfortable using a hotas. If you have any questions let me know.
Dude .... your my hero.
Now you need a 50 inch screen or surround screens.
good job this looks really nice
Nobody can take a man seriously who owns an electric lawn mower. :/
awesome video, cool project and nice work.
Awesome! I tried to do this with like coat hangers, curtain rods, duct tape and some random screws it was fail 😕, without power tools
that sounds like the Frankenstein of flight chairs!
I’m going to favorite this, and refer to it later
great idea, nicely done!
Looks great man!
yikes 4 years later and still no star citizen. nice chair though! looking to do something similar for elite
Its all about Elite Dangerous. #elitedangerous4life
nice joob dude and thanks im going to do this....you just need a bigger monitor
thanks! I'll ask the wife but I'm sure it won't be the answer I'm looking for.
I just got a single joystick a couple of days ago and I'm terrible at star citizen with it. Do you have any tips for me to get better?
SliverOfLight just practice your comment was two months ago so your probably fine by now
you turn in your chair yet and rip out the USB?
+Tom henderson
No, I have a USB extender so I can move freeley and do not have to worry about it
nice video
Damn great work to do its job! Nice, man, seriously!
Thanks!!
nice job
if you had fun making it... then its perfect. ..... see you in the verse /CitizenX
if I could ever get a job i'd make this
awesome.

jake i dude that is going to be sick. Very nice
My handy skills are non-existent I have to spend money like a chump if I want a flight chair. :)
Respect well done
Love the vid... but damn your voice. Sounds like I'm hearing a tutorial from Homer Simpson. Love it.
I hate my voice to.thanks for the great comment.
Actually, it was a compliment. I wish I sounded like that.
I didn’t get any Homer from that
neat
Awesome ! !!!!!
I am SOOOOOOOOOO "stealing" this idea
You could feed the Africa's with all this waffle
LIKE
Star Citizen is a scam and you fell for it!
I use this chair for any flying game so I didn't really fall for anything. the video is about making a flight chair not SC.
Fair enough. Good setup BTW
