Please do not apologize for the rant. I was a pediatric nurse for years. The pediatrician I worked for was always gentle and kind to his patients. He did ear wax removals himself, and the kids were mostly very cooperative because of his demeanor. The world needs more health care givers like you!!!
I was a kid who needed occasional ear wax cleanings. Now I'm an adult who needs twice-a-year cleanings, and it's not stressful at all because I didn't have bad experiences as a kid. We all need good healthcare providers.
I too am a general/paediatric and mental health nurse working with children and adolescents. Compassion, time, explanation, reassurance, humour all make the difference between success and failure. Well done for understanding this Rhys! ❤️❤️❤️
I'm certainly glad that you were referred to the parents. You go to great pains to make sure your patients are comfortable and relaxed. This kid is in good hands now.😊
I had a terrible Pediatrician. Experienced chronic ear pain for over a decade from age 3. Finally, at age 14, I saw another MD who was aghast at what she saw. Her first and only question was "what antibiotic was prescribed?" The answer? None. All that time I was given only hot oil drops. My Pediatrician insisted the pain did not exist. Hopefully, parents will read this. Listen to your children.
I had horrible pain as well and no antibiotics. I’m pretty sure my mom didn’t insist. She was horrible to doctors and didn’t advocate for for us, just blamed them when a miracle didn’t happen.
As a mom and an adult who had so many painful ear infections as a kid, this makes me so mad. One thing when I became a mom was very important to me was doing as much as I could to make sure my son didn't go through all the pain I went through from ear infections.
First Rule. Do No Harm. That includes psychological harm. I don’t blame you for being upset. This practitioner obviously did not care for pediatric patients. He probably doesn’t treat adult patients much better! Kudos to you! ❤
I had an ENT consultant as a kid who was an absolute monster, he was so rude and dismissive of everyone and was a bit of a bully to be honest. I have a friend who used to work with him and she said he was exactly the same with her and his other colleagues. Sometimes I think consultants forget that they're treating people and get swept up in their own stuff and god complexes.
So true! I worked for a cardiologist like that years ago, he was awful to his staff! He would butter up his patients and then talk rudely and make fun of them after they left. Was so glad when I got a job elsewhere
Anyone who has been a patient, or worked with the NHS, knows about these people - I have an impression (from limited experience in just one NHS Trust) that arrogant consultants are subject to better controls now than they were decades ago: I know of one in relatively recent years who was routinely rude to his patients, and to everyone else; it was sad, because he was a good doctor technically, and also he did soften appreciably if you stood up to him: but there you are in a backless gown, there is the consultant in his white coat, you're not feeling much like locking horns with the person who's supposed to be there to help you. In the end, this doctor was sacked - because he wouldn't or couldn't change his attitude and complaints were rolling in by the bucket-load. Back in the day, I've known of others who just went on and on, well past retirement age, patronizing, bullying, and insulting their patients. They're not all aware they're even doing it - maybe better training would help?
Was this in the Norfolk and Norwich hospital in the sixties and seventies? The ENT surgeon there at that time was brilliant at his job, but his (lack of) bedside manner was legendary.
I’ve met with quite a few consultants like this! I had a horrible consultant radiologist who did an ultrasound on my tum, said he saw bleeding but didn’t know what it was! Then glared at me as if were up to no good! Very brusque and rude. Turns out I had endometriosis which had migrated into my stomach area !
Been there. Many an MD are really a walking ego furnace disguised as a person. It's all about them. So much for do no harm. There are fine doctors available. They can be difficult to locate.
I have worked with disabled people for the past 14 years. It still amazes me how a medical "professional" can dismiss an issue. I have been thanked by their parents and doctors on how I advocate for them. This is what you did for this boy and I APPLAUD you!!!!!! Good job all around.
Wow your passionate rant in this video made me cry 😢 my son is 10, autistic and adhd and the amount of professionals in paediatrics who still don't take time to understand kids is shocking. Well done for making this kid comfortable, he'll probably never worry about this procedure again. Your a star 🌟
Yes just explaining the basics & letting a child hold/feel the tools removes a large percentage of any fear. Some people explain well to Adults more than the Little ones.
I’m so sorry that your kid is being treated so horrible dear. If there only were Rhyses and Taylors everywhere… Sending you a digital hug from Holland♥️
I was an undiagnosed AuDHD until well into my 40s. Trust and believe, I get it. I’m glad that your son was diagnosed early though. He has a lot more opportunities than I did in life as a result.
@@Trix897 Her son likely has more severe disability, so there’s a good chance you still don’t “get” what he’s going through. Every autistic person is different, with different challenges. So you don’t automatically get to say you know what he’s going through.
Thank you for helping the wee boy. A doctor told me to get out and bring my son back when he was better behaved......he was 2 years old!!!! Wish there were more caring people like you
Absolutely unthinkable. I'm so sorry, your poor baby, and you had such a bad experience. Please tell me you got sorted and the little popet is ok? You need Rhys or Taylor in the future 🥰 all the best
Thank you for your commentary. As a retired health care worker, I’ve been part of many ear wax or foreign objects removal from ears, especially children. You have to take the time and connect with the child. It can be traumatic for them. Thank you for always putting your patients first! ❤
WOW, I’ve been reading all the comments and they just confirm why I’m here. Everyone is so enormously proud that you advocated for this child and really made his mother feel that she had made the very best decision by taking him to your clinic. As a mother and a grandmother you only want the very best for your children and grandchildren and this is what this lucky boy got. ❤❤❤
I work in the healthcare industry for over 14 years now and I don’t have the temperament for the kids 🤷🏻♀️ my passion is for the older folks , the dementia patients and so forth , some ppl aren’t pleasant enough, kids can definitely read the room and energy and if you aren’t compassionate enough they will not be able to relax, I’m glad this kid parents found you 👍🏼
And it's *amazing* that you have that personal insight that you're just not cut out for working with kids! There are plenty of adults and older patients who need your help, you don't all have to go into pediatrics! I wish more professionals had the capacity to acknowledge and work with their own limits like that.
As a small child I had a dentist as a child who was very rude and told me “shut up!” I had adhd and a nervous talker. I still remember that. After him, I had a gentle very kind dentist but he unfortunately retired early due to health reasons.
I find that just because you are qualified to do a job, it doesn't mean that you can do it all. Pediatric anything is a specialized field, and even then, you have to get the right person to help you. Rhys, you are that person for this family. 👏 😊
I was traumatized by a pediatric dentist- to the point where I ended up having to get a root canal in third grade when I could no longer ignore the pain. Even now, I still get nervous going to the dentist. So yeah, treating patients with kindness and gentleness is a huge deal.
There is absolutely no need to apologize for the Rant. You are a passionate caregiver, and I find that there is a need for a Rant now and then to emphasize the need.
That poor kiddo. I'm really glad they brought their son to you. I hope the interaction with you, will help him to feel more comfortable with such a procedure. ❤Great Job Rhys!! ❤
Gods... what that poor kid went through that horrible encounter with the other ear doctor before he met you, boils my blood. Thank you for being so gentle and patient with him.
Rhys, I love you. I applaud you and your dedication. I remember being in the hospital as a young teen, and hating being there. The nurses weren't very nice. Years later, my own child has a chronic condition, and she spent years in and out of the hospital. The attitude was so different from when I was a kid. You are just like the people we worked with for my child.
Like everybody said, dont apologise for the rant. You show a lot of time the passion you have for the well being of the patient. Also i thinks as a dad and a grand-dad you felt for the kid. The most important think is that you helped this boy and gave him and is mom a good experience, so they will fell safe to do it again if necessairy.
I used to work with little kids. Sometimes you have to sit down with them and work on whatever the problem. Some people just don't want to take the time and be patient with them. Especially special needs kids. They would call me to come deal with them. Most if not all are easy to deal with. If you have patience. I have had some typical kids who are impossible to deal with. Sorry I got sidetracked with talking about impatient people. This is why you and the wonderful Mr Taylor Green are so good with patients. You need to have patience even with the difficult ones. You have other good qualities, to many to list.😊❤
No apology needed at all, I'm tamping hearing the story, thankfully the boy and mother found you!! Fingerscrossed his experience with you Rhys is what he predominantly remembers!
As someone with lifelong ear problems that started with a ruptured ear drum at just a few months old I really appreciate your compassion towards young patients. I've had tympanoplasties on both ears and a choleatoma removal in one. I suffered through pain and infections and nausea for years and I am so grateful every day that doctors like you were around to help me. ❤
From someone who worked peds for years you are well within you rights to rant. People don’t realize children are not just small adults. They have different needs and treatments. Thank you for spending so much time with that young boy and his mom. I’m sure you made their day.
I love his irritation. Absolutely genuine. Kids are not mini adults. I still have bad memories of medical professionals that treated me that way and I’m 70!
You are wonderful for helping this baby. Do NOT apologize for caring and advocating for your patients. We all love you for this. Thank you from across the pond.
You are a gift from God. Your compassion for children is just remarkable. This really shows how big your heart is and how much you love your job! Some healthcare professionals have rubbish bedside manner. Thank you for taking the time with this patient. Giving children positive experiences means they'll engage better with their health in the future. You are lovely.
I've had problems with ear wax since I was a little girl. In fact, one of my earliest memories was my mom using a bulb and warm water to shoot in my ear to try and get wax blockage out - and me promptly fainting. I was sitting on the bathroom counter and she caught me as I went. Thank you for being so sensitive to your patients. It takes a hero to do what you do.
No need to apologize! In fact, it’s actually great that you were incensed; it just goes to show how much you care for your patients, especially the younger ones.
That little boy was so lucky to have you remove his wax because you are so kind & patient, even with your adult clients. You’re truly a blessing for the children that you see. Thank you for sharing this video ❤❤❤❤
Poor little fella. Bless his heart! I’m a lot older than ten and I’d probably be nervous and anxious at my first time going to an unfamiliar appointment. I’m sure that wasn’t pleasant for the little boys mother when the prior practitioner was mean about her son being scared. Great job, Mr. Barber for being so kind and patient and making this young man feel at ease and comfortable at his appointment with you!😊💗
Your rant was a well taken when it comes to your work. Children arrive nervous, anxious 😰. They don't understand and should be dealt with compassion. Your dealing with any patient is commendable and kind. This is why we watch your channel. Taylor Green is a blessing to your staff. We appreciate your human kindness.
Good on you Rhys! That was unacceptable. I'm happy they found you to remove the wax for him and provide a pain-free, pleasurable, and professional experience 😊
Your compassion, professionalism, kindness and skills are tops in my book. I'm glad that you were able to help the young one. The little kids do need special handling and you definitely provided that. If I would ever need an audiologist, I'd hope that I could find one here in Florida like you. Otherwise I'll have to fly across the pond & visit your office! office!
Thank you so much for your care and attention to this child. Having been through this kind of treatment from a health professional as a child I applaud you. ❤❤❤❤❤
Never apologise for defending a child. Your rant and your points were all highly valued. If me and my little girls have problems we will come to you. How do we book in for an ear checkup?
Thank you for your compassion. I’ve had problems with the medical profession not taking my pain seriously since I was 5. I’m 46 now. We need more medical professionals like you.
I have had to get ear cleaning regularly since I was a toddler. Some of the providers I had made the experience painful and scary. That led to me putting off longer and longer between visits making removal more and more difficult. I wish I had a provider like you talking me through everything as a kid.
Totally understand your “rant”. Having worked in that field you will well understand and be rightfully upset at the distress caused to the child. Thankfully he found you, well done.
I actually loved the 'rant'. I have had ear issues since I was very young and one of my first wax removals was very rough (age 8). That makes a child never want to go back to an ear professional. Thankfully like this young man my second visit to a someone else was so completely different. The doctor was very calming and explained to me what it would be like before hand and talked to me while working and gave me breaks when necessary. At 61 yrs old I still have my ears cleaned out yearly but if that 2nd doctor hadn't been so kind where would I be now. So always 'rant' about things you feel strongly about. Maybe it will help another practitioner improve or help a parent to ask the right questions. Thank you for caring
I love your passion for your trade. It’s infectious. Never apologize for being so zealous towards the well being of your patients, or potential patients. It’s so maddening when specialists in a field give it a bad name. Thank goodness we have people like you!
No apology needed, you were right to feel like that! I felt my heart sink that someone could give up on the poor kid! Well done to you for giving him the help he obviously needed ❤
You may rant all you want and I will totally agree with you! As I teach my clients, Perspective drives Performance. Kudos to you, stern correction to that other practitioner. THANK YOU for being so compassionate and professional!
This is why I continue to come back to your channel, I just love your compassion and kindness. It’s hard to find good doctors here in the states and it’s so refreshing to hear how much you actually care. You definitely don’t have to apologize for being upset and advocating for this young patient 🫶❤
Your passion and compassion are amazing!!! Thank goodness they found you and your practice❤Keep being you because you're an outstanding example of good in this world😊
How beautiful that you care so much about this little boy you’ve never met before. You’re an absolute blessing and a credit to your field. I wish all doctors were as compassionate as you are. God bless ❤
I'm so glad they found you guys. You guys take the time to get kids comfortable and let him know it doesn't need to be scary. I feel the same way as you. It shouldn't hurt to be a kid.
As someone that had a lot of ear troubles as a kid, that first patient makes me so angry! I was super lucky and my doctor that handled it made it super simple and relaxing, and I'm so glad that little kid's parents found ya'lls practice!
I really appreciate you having a rant on behalf of that poor child, as I know from personal experience that the memory of his ordeal will affect his reaction to going to hospital for any other treatment. Im still scared over 60 years after my first time in hospital. I hope his mother wrote in with a complaint!
Thank you for the patience you had with the child. People often forget that while yes they are tiny humans, everything they do is brand new for them. Where we adults have a general concept of things, they need more time. It’s like going to a country for the first time, you go slower to take everything in.
So much respect to you for your talk in the beginning! I've had slight trauma from bad experiences with medical practitioners as well and it's stuck with me. I've been watching your videos for awhile now and I would definitely trust you with my health
Medical trauma is real. Avoiding medical trauma, especially in children should be every practitioners goal. If you are causing your patients trauma, and upset to the point of tears, it is NEVER OK, and you should reevaluate your career choices. Thank you for helping that little boy have a great experience that hopefully healed the trauma from the previous “professional”.
An experience like that will scar this child for life. Thank goodness you were there to help him. As a parent, I am so greatful for medical people lke you.

Never apologise for being so caring and advocating for children and adults . We need more professionals like yourself and your team 😊
Never apologize for caring about your patients Rhys❤
Your compassion, professionalism, kindness and skills are tops in my book. I'm glad that you were able to help the young one. The little kids do need special handling and you definitely provided that. If I would ever need an audiologist, I'd hope that I could find one here in Florida like you. Otherwise I'll have to fly across the pond & visit your office! office!
Thank you so much for your care and attention to this child. Having been through this kind of treatment from a health professional as a child I applaud you. ❤❤❤❤❤
Rhys, your compassion is compelling.
Poor baby! Thank you for helping him.
Adult humans have to learn patience with littles! Bless! Good job Mr. Reese!
Thank goodness the family found you
What a lovely comment, thank you ever so much.🦻🏼
It shows just how much you care Rhys. Glad the young patient and his mum found you. 🥰
Only you were the right man to do it ,very considerate.👌
I have had to get ear cleaning regularly since I was a toddler. Some of the providers I had made the experience painful and scary. That led to me putting off longer and longer between visits making removal more and more difficult. I wish I had a provider like you talking me through everything as a kid.
Totally understand your “rant”. Having worked in that field you will well understand and be rightfully upset at the distress caused to the child. Thankfully he found you, well done.
Rhys, as a teacher and a momma for almost 30 years, I'm right there with you. Do not apologize for your rant - you're a wonderful advocate.
Your passion and integrity should be applauded. God bless you!!
You’re one of the good ones, Rhys ❤
I love your passion for your trade. It’s infectious. Never apologize for being so zealous towards the well being of your patients, or potential patients. It’s so maddening when specialists in a field give it a bad name. Thank goodness we have people like you!
Thank goodness they found you!!! You and Taylor are the best!
Thank you ever so much for your lovely comment.🦻🏼
I appreciate your passion and thoughtfulness and kindness towards this young child
You have every right to be angry!
I was angry right along with you and all I do is watch ear wax removals..
You are 100% right on this one!
Please don't apologize for the rant ! I'm right there with you. Every patient deserves a DR. who is as caring as you.
Just show how passionate you are about your job 😊
This is why I continue to come back to your channel, I just love your compassion and kindness. It’s hard to find good doctors here in the states and it’s so refreshing to hear how much you actually care. You definitely don’t have to apologize for being upset and advocating for this young patient 🫶❤
Don’t apologise, you are so nice and have a heart of gold and I love that you and Taylor is so kind to your patients 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
As a mom, your rant is so appreciated. Your love and caring heart is so genuine and I wish the world had more practitioners like you in every field.
Thank you for sticking up for the kids!! 💕💕
For a Welsh rant, that was very refined. Normally when I rant people can’t understand a word I say 😂
Haha! Thank you ever so much for your comment.🦻🏼
No need to apologise, your a professional & dedicated to your job 👍
Thank you for the patience you had with the child. People often forget that while yes they are tiny humans, everything they do is brand new for them. Where we adults have a general concept of things, they need more time. It’s like going to a country for the first time, you go slower to take everything in.
What a teeny tiny ear! You are so kind and patient!
Thank you ever so much for your lovely comment.🦻🏼
No need to apologize; you, sir, are a _mensch._ We need doctors like you in all the fields!
So much respect to you for your talk in the beginning! I've had slight trauma from bad experiences with medical practitioners as well and it's stuck with me. I've been watching your videos for awhile now and I would definitely trust you with my health
Your concern is wonderful. Rant away! Your special delicacy in helping children is absolutely spot on!
I just love your authenticity
My inner child is happy to hear your rant 💖 I love when adults care so much
You are a wonderful human being!
I'm glad you took the time to make him comfortable.
I love your passion ! Thank you 💜
GOD bless you! That little boy has to be so relieved to have such a gentle loving person take wonderful care of him!
❤ your such a great guy and fantastic at your job 👏
Do not apologise for being passionate about what you do, take solace in the fact that you help and have helped so many 👍
