Great video; I imagine the patient felt much better and had good hearing. Thank you for your ethics in not doing the hearing test or recommending hearing aids until you've resolved any internal excess skin or wax issues. I know I would be a client if I lived in the UK.

My mother was persuaded to pay £4000 for hearing aids, that didn't fit, before she discovered she had wax in her ears. They returned them for a full refund and got a pair from Boots for a fraction of the price!

Very inflamed ear canal. Still, 6 weeks and it's that full? I hope the patient scheduled another appointment a month out to see if there is a recurrence and determine if there is a problem with the skin in the canal.
I can;t begin to imagine the relief this patient felt after having all this cleared. I love watching “peel” vids. Found a long snakeskin earlier in the year and immediately thought of you, Rhys, and your peel videos.

I’m in the US and I have really bad itchy ears. That oil has changed my life and ears. I am autistic and I have ADHD, so sensory issues are a thing and so is hyper fixation. So they itch and I scratch to the point where I have drawn blood. Now I don’t have as many problems as I used to with that and I have you to thank! ❤
My son in law went to an ENT today and also an audiologist. The latter started the hearing test and it was not going well. So she stops and decides to check his ears for wax. Yep, both ears clogged. He had them taken care of and is much better. I thought of this video and what you said. As you say it blows the mind
The workload has increased because the GP's stopped doing it and also they never used micro suction. The NHS ENT clinic waiting lists are massive. So many people go private even those with a small income.
@@brianredban9393 My practice just tells me to go to A&E, despite the fact that I'm neither an accident or emergency, for literally anything & everything. Or to just get on with it if I don't like it. I've witnessed 2 other patients go in to complain about the attitude, with one being told that "if you don't like it, there's the door" & another "no-one forces you to come here". I've even been threatened myself, when I tried to get an appointment for my mum, when she had an ear infection last year. First refusing to see her ("we don't do that here"), then telling me they had no appointments, they told me to go to A&E. I rang 111 & explained the situation. They were fuming. They booked an appointment 2 hours later for my mum at my practice. Who then immediately cancelled it again, calling me to tell me that "we told you we have no appointments & don't have anything to do with ears". So, back to 111. And the arguments between them clearly flew. The appointment was rebooked, for the exact same time. I don't know what was said, but I got a snotty call again from the practice, telling me that "fine. You can have the appointment. But don't you ever go over our heads again", then hung up! My mum was literally in the room for less than 5 minutes with the GP, who took one look in my mum's ear, confirmed she had an ear infection & prescribed the antibiotics she needed. It begs the question of what exactly they do all day at my practice, when they clearly have appointments, but refuse to see patients.

I just have to thank you guys for getting me into an audiologist after a failed irrigation removal attempt by the assistant of my former GP. I went with my mother to get her ear aids adjusted right after she'd gotten them-- her audiologist looked in my ears, saw the issue right away as to why they failed before and removed it with zero problems at all. My canal turns downward at a slightly odd angle and I'm feeling much better now. By the way-- he's a fan 🤣. ❤ from the USA.

Very interesting video and I'm sure the patient was delighted with the improvement. I have hearing problems and wonder if it is due to flakes of skin from psoriasis on my scalp and ears mixing with ear wax to block the ear canal. Psoriasis can produce a tremendous amount of skin flakes every day. Any advice?
That was worth waiting for! I hope you showed the gentleman what you got out of his ear. If he paid good money for ear cleaning and then showed up like that, he should be getting a refund.
Plus - you say you're on your soap-box, but that's not right, really, is it? If YOU don't expose poor treatment, who else is in a position to? If you don't expose it, who else can? I don't really expect you to launch a campaign via TH-cam, but - if you don't: who will, and who can? You know there's bad practice in audiology (and not only in audiology, but that's what you do): you have good reasons just to promote best practice, and that's what you do: but rotten practice needs to be exposed.

Would this have been painful peeling off the eardrum? I saw a video from another audiologist that used a forceps that was much less bulky and maybe a little longer that seemed really affective. Do you use anything like this?
I don’t know if you have any videos for how to care for your ears and/or how to notice problems and what steps to take to prevent it from getting bad. Maybe you could provide links for those videos if you do have them.
Rhys stop apologising for treating patients en masse! By the look of the wax covering the canal looks like it has been chemically "melted" by drops like antibiotic drops, peroxide or something. Oh and the "McDonalds" of hearing care that rhys is so annoyed with is probably specsavers that are opticians but offer hearing care in a locum ad hoc basis...poorly and without expertise.

They are but you can also buy them privately.

Gps stopped doing everything. They don't do much just tell you to go see this specialist and that specialist. It's really ridiculous

I saw a video from another audiologist that used a forceps that was much less bulky and maybe a little longer that seemed really affective. Do you use anything like this?

I don’t know if you have any videos for how to care for your ears and/or how to notice problems and what steps to take to prevent it from getting bad. Maybe you could provide links for those videos if you do have them.
Rhys stop apologising for treating patients en masse! By the look of the wax covering the canal looks like it has been chemically "melted" by drops like antibiotic drops, peroxide or something. Oh and the "McDonalds" of hearing care that rhys is so annoyed with is probably specsavers that are opticians but offer hearing care in a locum ad hoc basis...poorly and without expertise.
