No don't buy one. They handle really badly. Very unreliable. Weigh as much as a full size truck too. If anyone has one they want to get rid of I'll take it off your hands to save you the headache.
I've owned four MX-5's, and in my opinion the NC is the absolute best of all of them. The steering in them is particularly good, the engine is brilliant, the shifter is typical MX-5 heaven, and there is something about its particular type of MX-5 handling that I loved when compared to the other versions (they're all excellent of course). Plus it comfortably fits my 6'3" frame. It's also in my subjective opinion the best looking of all the MX-5's - mine was dark blue, lowered on Öhlins coilovers and TE37 copies for wheels and it looked absolutely epic. We have a manual Porsche 981 Boxster S now, which does most of what an MX-5 does but with mid-engined handling and the glorious sounds of a flat 6, but if I didn't own that I'd be back in an NC, and I'd be very happy.
I actually sold my '88 911 Carrera 3.2 for an NC and have no regrets. The 'peak' enjoyment in the 911 was higher (the flat 6 sound and feel and the way they squat, grip and go out of tight bends etc) but the Mx5 NC has a much wider band of enjoyment. Even just cruising around around at low speeds with the top down, it is fun, whereas the 911 was less comfortable , hotter and stressed me out with other road users!
I love my 2010 NC MX-5 GT PRHT, have owned it for over 7yrs, zero issues only regular maintenance. It's my go to during the spring and summer, the top is down if it's not raining.
Owned a 2008 and sold it 24. The biggest pain is water in the cabin and the rain rails that clog. Changed the clutch plate, windshield wipers, oil. Honestly, the most reliable car. Simple and fun.
I was obsessed with them before covid when you could find a decent one for around 12k. But unfortunately they are not the forgotten sports car anymore.
My auntie used to have a black NC soft top with a red interior, and I had the chance to drive it through the Adelaide hills. I never wanted that drive to end!
I recently picked up a 2012 NC2 with less than 30k on the clock. With a service and fresh PS5 rubber it is absolutely amazing. I have owned a 996 cabriolet and 997 4S and while nowhere as quick the MX5 puts the biggest smile on my dial 😀
I sold my '88 911 3.2 Carrera for my 2012 NC3 with 60k on the clock. PS5s for road and Yokohama AD09s for track. Love this car and no regrets selling the 911. (Although I admit I miss the flat 6 wail and the way it fires out of low speed bends, but that's it. The rest of the time, I'd rather be having fun in my NC!)
Agree. I recently purchased a 2012 NC from Porsche Monterey with just 23K. Drove it for one year and it was Ok, until I just recently installed Goodwinn mild lowering springs and their SuperQ exhaust. It transforms it 100%, sharper steering, just the slightest more aggressive stance yet handles so much better around apexes, and a seriously worthy low muffle. Exhaust is only 15% louder but most notable is the lower tone.
@@Hilighted So just lowering sharpened it up that much? If I didn't need to replace the dampers (probably with coilovers in due course), I was going to stiffen it with heavier duty anti-roll bars.
Thanks for a great video. I have owned my 2011 Special edition NC2 PRHT since buying it new. I have never tired of this beautiful little car. I am little ashamed to say that I have only driven it 21000 km but have it fully serviced by Mazda every year. It’s not the only car I have so I just drive it on a nice long enjoyable run when I feel like it and I know it turns more heads than the ND I love my ND but I doubt I could ever part with the NC as it has become so much a part of the family.
These are absolutely brilliant cars and massively under rated. I’ve just sold my well set up 3.5 PHRT BBR200, wish I hadn’t perhaps but I have just bought an ND. Trick is finding one with out rust. Seriously for the money there isn’t a better two seater. Great and solid review.
I've owned a red hardtop NC1 for six months now delving into so many self fixes, improvements and maintenance and I gotta tell you that this is THE most perfect review of the NC. For me, what's the point of making it to mid-life without owning the perfect mid-life crisis* car? *actual crisis optional
Own a 2011 mx5 nc. Kendo in mica black, with stone leather and all the upgrades. I feel the same way, its the best fun reliable car i ever owned. I will never sell it, life allowing... great video, liked and subscribed. John
Planning to get an NC (preferably NC2 or 3) for my retirement present iin a few years time. This video is just what I need. To me, the NC is the best looking of all the 4 generations available now. It's body style is great for a lifted stance with A/T tires. 😃
Had a NB, now have a NC1 soft top with the "big block" Mazda 2.5 swap, full exhaust, intake, ECUTek, coils, sways, Konig rims, PS5's and a Android head unit The NC is so much better to live with than the NB, like others, initially purchased as a weekender, but it is now the main car I take everywhere, it is so much fun
i don't know if you should buy one but I bought an NB2 8 years ago and have not regretted it for a moment, absolute joy. the best thing ever. the koenigsegg test drivers personal track car is an mx-5 nc so if it's good enough for him it's good enough for you, ignore the haters.
Best series of cars ever made! Not a bad one! And completely agree with the design as you said Adam. You’ll never drive a better car in your life than an mx5 ever! What an underrated happy reliable little sports car love them so much!

@@stevegreene9149Wow! That’s super interesting, appreciate you sharing that Steve! It’s incredible that you sold a fantastic Porsche for the NC, really a testament to how good the car is.
I recently brought one as my second car. Before it I had a 1.3 Yaris and I brought the 2.0 Miyako… it was my dream cars to own and I have to say - I’m in love. I’m a bit of a novice when it comes to cars but my god it’s class. I always enjoyed driving but it truly just brings EVEN MORE fun out of the experience. Every journey you just don’t wish to end, I often now go for a drive when I don’t need to, just for the sake of driving her! Yeah mine has a few issues and I need to spend a little time get her back looking fresh but my god is she worth it :)
The fix for the NC1 seat belts is very simple, just replace the plastic seat-mounted guide with the part from the NC3. The belt binds up in the NC1 plastic guide but not the newer version.
@@JoJo-me8ih Double check, it's been years since I bought them for my 2007. Current owner of NC2 and before that an NB2 - The NC2 is the best thing on 4 wheels, every drive puts a smile on your dial! They're low tech, ultra reliable and under the radar.... until this video gets out. :)
You are absolutely right . I just bought one 2 weeks ago nc1 for 14k . Its amazing. Handles way better than Nd which is start at 25k for 2015 . I love it. Best value for money 2 door fun car.
14k? holy mackeral..........i am in the uk and have a very good condition nc which i am currently selling for an inflated price of 3.5k..........mrs keeps hounding me to get something the kids can fit in the back of............
I have a 2007 NC1 and love it. It has a pioneer head uinit that is usb compatible, and I put a backup camera in. About to install a BBR Super 200 kit, and I have already installed a Flyin' Miata Stage 2 suspension package consisting of Koni shocks and FM Lowering sprints and Sways. This car is more fun than any car I have owned in my 68 years.
Sold in Australia as Sunset Yellow, not Competition Yellow, but the paint code is the same. 2009 only to introduce the NC2. And to clarify for US people, Australians use the year it is actually available, not the following year as is done in the US. Cheers
great Video! 9:29 as an NC2-owner, the thing that guides the seat belts does also play a huge role in the belts retracting better. Mazda changed them, too - but until until the NC3. Plan on swapping them out soon. Oh, and here's the part numbers of the upgraded ones: NH18-88-1M7 -02 (left) NH18-88-1L7 -02 (right) Also, CarbonMiata seems to have come up with their own product. Have fun with your Miatas, guys!! :)
Have now had my NC for seven years. I put in some 3rd millennium speakers (I have a non-Bose system), this is a vast sound quality improvement, highly recommended. Installed a new horn as well, the original one is pathetic. No issues, fantastic car, toook it on long holidays, Alps, Italy you name it, super great fun!
I traded my Miata NB for a 300 Hp WRX at the end of last summer ! I am going to trade my 300 Hp WRX to a Miata NC at the end of this winter 😂. Miata is just ... Miata ! 😍 the connection is just different
Got a PRHT NC2 in dark metallic grey with 65000 km, a Smarttop roof controller, a little tune to use 98RON and RE03 215 tyres. Swapped in a Mazda6 variable intermittent wiper switch. Roof needed a little tighten to reduce the rattle. BOSE amplifier let go with a $500 repair. Agree with everything said here especially the thin paint. Next on the list is a short shift because I used to drive wings and slicks open wheelers so I like short and notchy changes. Don't like the pretend oil pressure gauge. Leather on the driver seat entry has worn out its colour. Not my old Dallara F3, but then it's not my wife's ASX either- but I did find myself slipping into the heel and toe, drive more on the nose old habits by reflex. It's more fun than my old Porsche for the reasons mentioned- you can use the fun (maybe or maybe not on the old Bruce Hwy not saying...)
@@stevegreene9149 Yep- I still have a light button buzz from time to time after tightening the roof. Tightening got rid of a lot of general roof noise and only reduced the buzz. I just press the button lightly again which gets rid of the buzz and I guess reseats it. I haven't tried lubricating it, but for me chasing that down isn't a priority because I only do roof in high summer (for the aircon in tropical Queensland) There's plenty of videos how to tighten the roof generally but no one's mentioned the button buzz! But tech tip- to tighten the roof you need fine needle nose pliers to do the circlip properly which they also don't mention...
Both my NC2s had the clutch pedal set too low from the factory, adjust it up 2 or 3 turns on the pushrod and the gearchange becomes perfect, this is well known. oh and use a good 75/90 synthetic gearbox oil and don't forget the top turret lube to complete the job.
Bought one last month. I am genuinely in love. I’m gonna get a boot bag since space is tight and I think I’m gonna wear out the rear tires in a few months…
I had to replace the windshield on my 2011 NC MX-5 GT PRHT and thanks to the $50 Windshield deductible on my insurance policy that's ALL I had to pay..not $350.00 like he's talking about. If your insurance company has this option, sign up for it immediately! Progessive Insurance in the USA has this available! Great handling car and extremely reliable. I considered getting an ND model, but decided to get a Nissan 370Z Sport 6 spd MT instead. I'll always love ❤️ the MX-5 though!
YESS! I've been waiting for this one. At about 6'3"/6'4" (that's what Uncle Doug says right?) I think it's the only reasonable option for my height (and girth). I hired an NC for the weekend as a birthday present a few, years back, absolutely sublime (and still a tight fit).
I punched it over the back of the Gold Coast Hinterland down to Murwillumbah, then over the Burringbar Range. Only complaint on a probably 40° summer day up here, the aircon was a little bit feeble.
Just get yourself a set of lowering seat brackets and that will do the trick. We install loads for taller customers and also in our own cars. We have a flat floor fitted in our k24 track car.
I've owned a low miles 2006 NC for 11 years. Only failure is the $50 brake switch. And i replaced the coolant expansion tank with the Moroso. Apart from that, standard maintenance and smiles.
I bought my Sunset Yellow NC2, top spec being Recaros, BBS wheels and Bilstein in 2015. Then an unmolested Mariner Blue NA in 2018. The NA is great but is far more raw to drive ( no power steering in mine), but the NC you can comfortably tour in and then bang really quickly up and down the mountain passed. Brilliant. I do get huge anxiety when I have to park either of them. Other road users don't have either capability or respect when parking... But that's another rant. Cheers
@ I can imagine. I’ve never driven a NC, but I bet it’s brilliant. For my personal preference of a weekend car it’s always been a red NA, but I think any manual MX5 would be a correct answer.
@xkimopye try to get into the different gens. They offer slightly different experiences. Not just a case of some being better than each other. NC is like half way between an NA/NB and an RX8 for feel. It's not as raw but it's a much better GT and to drive fast on a windy road its just so much more capable Than the first 2 gens.
All MX-5s are great. Even if the NC1 is the “least” of all the models I’d still take one over any other sports car. Double that for most of today’s new cars. I ended my years long, on/off search with an ND. However, having driven several different models, my ultimate determination is- they’re all good! The thing that amazed me the most was the NCs I drove were between 15-17 years old. When I drove them, the engine, transmission, chassis dynamics. They didn’t feel a fraction their age. Maybe I just got lucky with every test drive. Dunno. They all seemed pretty good to me.
Great video, thank you. Btilliant car. Had 2008 NC1 for 3 months now after a seismic change from 12 years in an E55K. Love the bones of it - I live where the roads suit it (UK, B roads mainly) and the drop from 500bhp to 158bhp bothers me not one jot. And it just sailed through the MOT today 🙂 They're cheap as chips in the UK, for now. Only fault I found, as mentioned in the vid, is the paint is either thin or soft. Easily marked. Again, thanks for the vid 👍
Got me a 2013 for a decent price and just replaced the top and I’m working on the whole drainage situation but mostly sorted and I’m excited about ownership. It’s black and I got a red/burgundy top. Love this thing!!!
I love all Mazdas (except the diesels). The halcyon days of Mazda were the 60's - 80's and our first was a '68 1500. We've been driving them ever since. Zoom zoom indeed!
The NC in Sunflower yellow is a real head turner. I have a 2010 in Hardtop in Sunflower Yellow. I never liked a yellow car until I now lol. These cars are very reliable but you do need to do maintenance when due. Mine has a weird hum coming from the back when on highway at certain speeds. 80km/h and around 110km/h when ever so slightly on the throttle. When I let go of the throttle it goes away, I hope its not the diff. The car only done like 38000km. The only 1 thing that is a pita on these cars are the pcv hose that tears and then you get a vacuum leak. Happened on my previous 2006 NC and what a job it was to replace a dirt cheap little hose. Once you are there just replace the pcv valve and the knock sensor as they also tend to go and avoid doing all that over lol.
Love this cool little car. Thinking that you could do videos on how to improve the driving experience of used cars by upgrades to tyres, suspension, engine tuning and entertainment system kits. Would imagine you’d get quite a few sponsors interested in advertising their products and services. Cheers. Love the videos 👍
Good to see the Escort in Jim's Garage. Had an RS2000 back in the day. I've never driven any MX5 but to me the NC was the pick of the genre. I went for a 986s (Manual) as my first convertible, graduated to a 981s (PDK) and now drive a 718 GTS 4.0 (Manual). They're pretty good too.
Honestly didn't expect to have a video come out today. Will you be going back to the original Wednesday and Friday upload schedule or is it Wednesday, Friday & Sunday schedule now? It definitely a car that has aged gracefully compared to some of it's competitors. Chews more fuel that expected which is surprising for the weight of it. Brilliant work as always guys and look forward to Friday's video as per usual 👍
My dad had a new 2009 NC RC that he put 180000kms on with the only problem being that he needed to graphite grease the windscreen header for the vibration where the roof meets it when up. I had a 2007 LE (with the weird BBS wheels) softop which was at the time the cheapest one on carsales but it had a bit of a stiffness getting into first gear. And the roof rattled like a bastard. Only reason I didnt buy dads was I didn't have a carspace where I lived at the time and only reason I sold mine was my wife was on her Ls and preferred an auto.
I've been running Idemitsu Racing Rotary Oil as premix since I bought my 2011 RX-8 and it's been great. If I remember, the MX-5 is a shortened RX-8 chassis which is a super fun chassis.
Oh guys. I meant to say. I was sending your Honda CRV videos to a mate a couple of days ago and I noticed the second video you did on the later CRV had no sound from a couple of minutes in. I thought my phone had died but everything else works.
We’ve heard that was an issue. Completely fine for most, but some had an issue. It plays fine on all our devices on our end, apparently it happens more when viewed on TV.
Great video that adresses almost all common faults on the NC. I own one NC1 and my only complaint is... I wish I had bought one sooner. My other car is a pristine and low mileage S2000, so clean that I almost don't use it. For everyday and unstressed use: NC.
There's 2 major problems. It's yellow and the steering is on the wrong side. Kpower makes a complete K24 swap kit for around 6k that makes it a perfect sports car you could turbo later if you like.
I had an NA for 10 years, and loved it dearly, but these days I would absolutely love a competition yellow NC3 roadster coupe. I am told the perfect upgrade for NC1 owners who may happen to kill the motor is to swap in the 2.5 out of a 3 or a 6.
The short answer is if you fit, yes, yes you should. I have a Fiat 124 spyder. I'm 6ft even it fits me like a glove. I have 2 friends who are an inch or two taller than me, they don't fit comfortably.
My Abarth 124 has a NC gearbox and it was a shitty to use, displaying all the issues described in this vid - notchy, missed gears, it was a dog. It was the most disappointing thing about my 124, by far. I changed the g/b oil with little improvement. Changed again, this time using the Redline GL4 as recommended by various MX5 fanatics. What a stunning improvement !!! Recommended to any NC owners
Love this take, definitely so much better after gearbox oil , try tightening the chassis too, makes the gearbox line up better and everything becomes wayyyy smoother
Got a beautiful specimen of a 2008 PRHT Touring with everything including the rare body kit trim and original Highland Green paint still shiny. I love it but I do plan to sell it in a year or two for a Boxster just because I’ll be turning 50.
The infotainment is actually different for the NC3, mine came with an factory Alpine headunit (with a mazda changed OS), I ended up replacing it with a Kenwood unit that has wireless android auto, the alpine unit is a standard double din so mine looks perfectly factory, just amazing. I suppose the only grip I've with it is since it is positioned quite low on the dash, looking at the waze map can feel scary, since I'm taking my eyes off the road a bit too much.
What does "sort the suspension geometry out" actually mean? Bilstein shocks and urethane bushings and camber adjustable ball joints and bigger sway bars and end links? How involved does this get?
I’m on my 2nd NC. This is a fantastic 2nd car, a toy really. To put things in perspective, I got my 2006 for $13k, pristine condition with 40k miles. I passed up a ND2 Club with the optional BBR package for $25k because the price difference was too much and when you’re driving with the top down on a mountain road it’s amazing.
@@EchoSigma6 Wow! That's a huge asking price, I'm not sure what it goes for here but recently a white hard top NC3 with 60,000km's went for only 26k AUD. At this very point in time I feel and the market suggests that the car is still considered underrated here in Sydney, Aus.
I've owned an NA, did shocks and springs and it handled amazingly. Great car. A bit let down by the 1.6L engine tho. Drove an NC a few years ago. hated it, felt like it was going to fall over or twitch the rear when cornering. Ok - you guys did mention fixing the suspension geometry, so maybe that can be sorted. The other factor is the lines, looks crappy compared to the ND.
I run a MGTF 160 at the Mt Cotton hillclimb. It took a lot of work to get it faster than a slightly warm NC. I have driven a few NC's at the hill and it is the car I should havee bought if I didn't have an MG "thing". But the really fast car on the hill was a Boxster S with R spec rubber. Yes that icon at the front of my text is the other MGF and it has over 200K and is still quick at the hill.
I am a new owner of a NC2 PRHT. It has almost 200.000 km on it but still drives amazingly. It is lowered with eibach springs but I am wondering if there Can be a better suspension setup? What does it mean to figure out the suspension geometry as is recommended in the video?
Congratulations! I have the same car and at one point installed Eibach springs with Koni shocks only to learn they are not compatible when my car started bottoming out. Eibach springs need high compression dampers which Koni’s are not. Now I have the Koni shocks with stock springs. If I had my time over I’d go with Shockworks coilovers instead. If you are happy with the height and comfort of the suspension just find a company in your area which has a good reputation for setting up suspensions (wheel alignment/geometry). Companies who carry out these services are not all equal. Those who setup cars for motorsports can usually set these up more precisely for you. Ask for a fast road setup and you’ll be looking for twisty roads every time you get behind the wheel. A front sway bar swap for a stiffer one such as Whiteline or one from an RX8 will also make a huge difference if this hasn’t been done already.
Agree with your video, but most importantly is that its the last to have hydraulic steering! (Side note: use their suggested alignment angles from their website to make it all 100%). Wish I could post pics.
2010 NC2 PRHT owner here . Can I get a definitive answer on how to check the drain holes . Have checked all the forums & there seems to be many conflicting answers. I’m an older 6ft 3 owner so it’s the only model I can fit in , tips ,fit seat lowering brackets , lower the clutch pedal (not simple) & I fitted a smaller steering wheel from Flying Miata . Cheers Simon
Bought a 2011 in March of 2024 with 29000 miles on it and a month after had to replace the clutch. Also tires and rear brakes. Granted that probably fault of last user. Agree on the paint it was from FL and I am in Illinois there is fade spots and issues in places with the clear coat. Not as fun as a MGB to drive in my opinion. Yet I am older and bigger guy so maybe that is the issue. Also stupidly in IL and using it as daily. If you want to come buy it I am near Peoria IL and have it listed on facebook or craigs once in awhile, cause it snowed here today and I was all over the place. Yeah winter tires, not good all season. DAMN.
Coolant tank, sway bar end links, clutch slave and master cylinder, and oil changes. There may be other stuff with age. Especially shocks. These cars do not need much love to keep giving a great roadster experience. Get the PRHT. You’ll thank me later.

For me, what's the point of making it to mid-life without owning the perfect mid-life crisis* car?
*actual crisis optional
I realize the cliche, but I'm 44 and it's time.
Do it..I did
@@peteromara642
Working towards it. Keeping fingers crossed everything will work out as planned.
Had a NB, now have a NC1 soft top with the "big block" Mazda 2.5 swap, full exhaust, intake, ECUTek, coils, sways, Konig rims, PS5's and a Android head unit
The NC is so much better to live with than the NB, like others, initially purchased as a weekender, but it is now the main car I take everywhere, it is so much fun
Current NB owner and thinking about getting an NC1 to swap a 2.5 in as well haha. I cant bring myself to get rid of the NB though
@magicwaffl3z decisions decisions,
Awesome, epic car. If you've never driven an NC get to one, it'll change your mind.
Bought a 2011 PRHT last month, absolutely love driving it!
i don't know if you should buy one but I bought an NB2 8 years ago and have not regretted it for a moment, absolute joy. the best thing ever. the koenigsegg test drivers personal track car is an mx-5 nc so if it's good enough for him it's good enough for you, ignore the haters.
Best series of cars ever made! Not a bad one! And completely agree with the design as you said Adam. You’ll never drive a better car in your life than an mx5 ever! What an underrated happy reliable little sports car love them so much!
Definitely an underrated sports car! I’d love to see how it stacks up against a Porsche though in terms of fun 😅
@@chrisandryracing my comment (from experience) from above: I actually sold my '88 911 Carrera 3.2 for an NC and have no regrets.
@@stevegreene9149Wow! That’s super interesting, appreciate you sharing that Steve! It’s incredible that you sold a fantastic Porsche for the NC, really a testament to how good the car is.
I’m fortunate to have a Gr Yaris and an MX5 NC 3.75, the Gr is fantastic in the wet. The MX5 shines on a sunny day.
Hahahaha! 94kw is far from a sports car. The awful cx-30 has more power.
For two years I owned this model (2013), never had any problem: was a nice car to drive. And a good babe magnet 😊😊😊
I pulled my wife in a 1998 NA lol.
@ whaha
I’ve just bought one. Thanks guys, thanks to your video I now have an NC 2. 😊🥳🤩
Part no ?
@@JoJo-me8ih Double check, it's been years since I bought them for my 2007. I think these are the correct replacement parts:
NHY8 88 1L7 Belt Guide (Right) 1 (Plastic Guide)
NHY8 88 1M7 Belt Guide (Left) 1 (Plastic Guide)
NHY8 88 1J1 Protector (Right) 1 (Metal Support)
NHY8 88 1K1 Protector (Left) 1 (Metal Support)
i was pleasently surpised how fun these are to drive at any speed
Competition Yellow is fantastic!!
Love that yellow 💛
It really is! I love when people yell out Spotto 😂
Sold in Australia as Sunset Yellow, not Competition Yellow, but the paint code is the same. 2009 only to introduce the NC2. And to clarify for US people, Australians use the year it is actually available, not the following year as is done in the US. Cheers
@@RossG61 True! I love how there’s two names for such an awesome colour 🫶
@@RossG61 I always wonder why companies use different names for the same thing in different parts of the world.
great Video! 9:29 as an NC2-owner, the thing that guides the seat belts does also play a huge role in the belts retracting better. Mazda changed them, too - but until until the NC3. Plan on swapping them out soon.
Oh, and here's the part numbers of the upgraded ones:
NH18-88-1M7 -02 (left)
NH18-88-1L7 -02 (right)
Also, CarbonMiata seems to have come up with their own product.
Have fun with your Miatas, guys!! :)
Appreciate this!!!
Thanks for the part numbers! Love my series 1 NC such a joy.
Take the belts to a seat belt repair specialist who will increase the retract tension, doesn't cost much.
Such a great, well researched, engagingly delivered video. Haven't found a channel that is this thorough, or objective. Subscribed.
Thanks so much mate!
I traded my Miata NB for a 300 Hp WRX at the end of last summer ! I am going to trade my 300 Hp WRX to a Miata NC at the end of this winter 😂. Miata is just ... Miata ! 😍 the connection is just different
Couldnt agree more with your comment Lifes is better with a MX5 in your life!
Hahah this is too true
I am running a 2009 NC it is at 180000 miles on the clock and running fantastic. Just regular oil change. No rust. in Washington state.
How did you tighten the roof? I have an annoying buzz from the release button (not the clamp).
@@stevegreene9149 Yep- I still have a light button buzz from time to time after tightening the roof. Tightening got rid of a lot of general roof noise and only reduced the buzz. I just press the button lightly again which gets rid of the buzz and I guess reseats it. I haven't tried lubricating it, but for me chasing that down isn't a priority because I only do roof in high summer (for the aircon in tropical Queensland)
There's plenty of videos how to tighten the roof generally but no one's mentioned the button buzz! But tech tip- to tighten the roof you need fine needle nose pliers to do the circlip properly which they also don't mention...
Still the most honest and best used car channel on the net! Loving the videos!
Idemitsu sponsorship, you guys are crush it. Keep up the good work.
Both my NC2s had the clutch pedal set too low from the factory, adjust it up 2 or 3 turns on the pushrod and the gearchange becomes perfect, this is well known. oh and use a good 75/90 synthetic gearbox oil and don't forget the top turret lube to complete the job.
Good info
I'll always love ❤️ the MX-5 though!
i own an NC2 and i never knew about the cubby hole behind the passenger seat 🤯
Only found on the soft top versions.
I love my NX5 6 spd. Gand touring soft top. It makes me smile every time I drive it. I purchased it brand new and never regretted it. Great car!
YESS!
I've been waiting for this one. At about 6'3"/6'4" (that's what Uncle Doug says right?)
I think it's the only reasonable option for my height (and girth).
As the owner of a beautiful NA. If the NC is even nearly as good as the NA, then yes buy it!
And it just sailed through the MOT today 🙂
They're cheap as chips in the UK, for now.
We owned one for 12 yrs! Absolutely troublefree! Excellent roadholding on Michelin Pilot tires! The worlds topseller sports car!
I love all Mazdas (except the diesels). The halcyon days of Mazda were the 60's - 80's and our first was a '68 1500. We've been driving them ever since. Zoom zoom indeed!
This is the most well researched video on the subject I ever watched. Good job!
I have a 2012 retractable. great car.The hardtop is a fantastic improvement over a cloth top.
Almost everything from the RX8 bolts in. Go nuts guys
Love my 2013 PRHT Club. Red with black hardtop. Beautiful cars. Super reliable.
Road & track NC’s hard… Awesome!!! 👍😊👊💥

Oh guys.
I meant to say. I was sending your Honda CRV videos to a mate a couple of days ago and I noticed the second video you did on the later CRV had no sound from a couple of minutes in.

Great video that adresses almost all common faults on the NC. I own one NC1 and my only complaint is... I wish I had bought one sooner. My other car is a pristine and low mileage S2000, so clean that I almost don't use it. For everyday and unstressed use: NC.
Those recaros are amazing. I wish we got them as an option in the states. I have a 15 club PRHT they would be amazing in them.
One thing you missed is the issue of the huge, 4x4 wheel arch gap, and the suspension geometry. The handling can snap to oversteer unpredictably.
Great review, love my NA, would also buy an NC if I had space
There's 2 major problems. It's yellow and the steering is on the wrong side. Kpower makes a complete K24 swap kit for around 6k that makes it a perfect sports car you could turbo later if you like.
17:40 " yes yes...so much yes " LOL, enjoying the drive much ? lol. I had a previous gen one of these, fun car to drive.
On my 2nd NC1....
BBR tuned, what a great little toy
An amazingly simple but fun car! This yellow one is my third 😂
Own an NA, went shopping for 2 years for the right NC, bought a Nissan Dualis. You make this make sense.
I had an NA for 10 years, and loved it dearly, but these days I would absolutely love a competition yellow NC3 roadster coupe.
I am told the perfect upgrade for NC1 owners who may happen to kill the motor is to swap in the 2.5 out of a 3 or a 6.
Ooohhh unfortunately may be impossible for you to find, Comp Yellow only came out for 09 and 10 models (NC2)
Could always wrap on though!

The short answer is if you fit, yes, yes you should.
I have a Fiat 124 spyder. I'm 6ft even it fits me like a glove. I have 2 friends who are an inch or two taller than me, they don't fit comfortably.
The NA MX5 was green lit for development almost 40 years to the day.
Great episode like always! Please make a review for a Toyota Mr2 mk3 🙏
Thank You!
Can you do a review of the NB? Thats been my favourite since 1999 (when i was in year 12).
I thought 124 uses the nd platform?
Love this take, definitely so much better after gearbox oil , try tightening the chassis too, makes the gearbox line up better and everything becomes wayyyy smoother
@@aadriohno yes it does, however the g/b is from the NC....as the ND g/b could not handle the turbo torque
@@chrisandryracing Mine is on Eibachs, improvement, albeit slight
@@kidoctane best NC GB oil is ford Motorcraft from my experience. Getting stiffer engine mounts also helped
Got a beautiful specimen of a 2008 PRHT Touring with everything including the rare body kit trim and original Highland Green paint still shiny. I love it but I do plan to sell it in a year or two for a Boxster just because I’ll be turning 50.
I wish this colour was available in the UK. Competition Yellow 😍
What a great example to do a video on. Comp Yellow ❤
Comp yellow 💛💛💛
It really is an amazing car, this yellow one is my third!!
@
Well that Club NC in competition yellow is like gold here in Los Angeles, easily asking for $20k.
My mum has had hers for nearly 10 years now - fantastic car and I love to drive it whenever I visit, miata purists be damned
This is as pure as it gets to be honest 😅
The designer of the MX-5 has an NC himself and says it’s his favourite 😂
is a NC 2012 with 103,406 miles still good and worth to buy?
I've owned an NA, did shocks and springs and it handled amazingly. Great car. A bit let down by the 1.6L engine tho. Drove an NC a few years ago. hated it, felt like it was going to fall over or twitch the rear when cornering. Ok - you guys did mention fixing the suspension geometry, so maybe that can be sorted. The other factor is the lines, looks crappy compared to the ND.
Hahah the NC does roll a lot, ND is definitely more of a tighter feeling car. Each to their own!
The Aussie goats are back!🔥
Brilliant car. Have an NC1 and it is my daily. Also have an i2N and if I had to sell one of them it is the i20N
You know a car's good to go, when Jim finds time to spruik a product in his segment LOL.
Haha. He has so much more time on his hands when it comes to MX-5s
I'd save up and stretch to an Elise, personally, but I'd definitely give one of these a look.
Ooohh I’m sure elises are fantastic cars, especially if you get one where you can drop the top 😅
I have one, it’s brilliant 🏴
Agree with your video, but most importantly is that its the last to have hydraulic steering! Exhaust is only 15% louder but most notable is the lower exhaust tone. It’s a complete transformation of the car, yet absolutely still livable as a discreet daily.
U doing my favorite cars of late. ❤
DAMN.
I have my nc ten years already, i will never sell it, such a fun car😊
It really is!!
Coolant tank, sway bar end links, clutch slave and master cylinder, and oil changes. There may be other stuff with age. Especially shocks.
These cars do not need much love to keep giving a great roadster experience.
Get the PRHT. You’ll thank me later.
