That’s a great way to explain it! The slight offset of the 1300 is already questionable, so they surely must have had a really desperate need to make it stick out even further on this one. Hazardous cargo would make a lot of sense.
@RadioFreeCoruscant considering that the two escape pods are in locations immediately accessible to the crew, unlike how they are placed on a 1300, just adds more credence to my headcanon. Picture a YT-2400 is carrying something unstable like coaxium or some type of explosive in the cargo holds furthest from the cockpit. The cargo load master goes to check on it, and unfortunately, it's about blow... Load master runs to the pod by the airlock and ejects it to safety while telling the pilot and other crew in the cockpit to bail in the other pod after sealing the interior door of the cockpit to hold a breathable atmosphere while getting in the escape pod.
@jtjames79 Usually, there'd be ground crews doing the cargo loading underneath the hull, and the cockpit really doesn't have that good of visibility for that type of loading. At best, its window configuration would allow for better visibility when landing on smaller docking pads, but a simple landing camera would do the same.
While I enjoyed the video on the YT-2400, the highlight was the abridged history of the YT-2000. I really enjoy the center cockpit members of the YT family and would love to know more about the YT-2000.
I am starting to really love your ship break downs. The hammer head you did was the best breakdown of it I have seen and I have looked as the hammer head c80 is my favorite ship. I don’t know were you got some of your images and videos tho they were awsome ! Keep up the good work and thank you
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it! The scenes you didn’t recognize were probably some original animations I made. I found a 3D model of the ship from Star Wars Starfighter Missions and animated it in Blender. I also tweaked it some by adding custom lighting and upscaling the texture to make it look a little nicer close up. I did the same for this video as well, though the YT-2400 model was from Star Wars Galaxies!
@Alpha_Digamma I'm personally think that BB unit and ID9 Seeker Droid both would be great. For one reason with BB You don't have to worry a whole lot about terrain issues. You just have to make sure as well as their own personalities seem to be mostly agreeable sure you need sometimes to be told wait And even then they go with the flow I find. ID9 get some set up around the ship or if you're on the mission and you can find your target as well as making sure your shift is running smooth for those tight corners that us meet bags can't get to . But I just think having a massive killing machine with a sarcastic personality would also be enjoyable to a certain extent, just not in the long-term.
@@michaelmaynard937 I don't find BBs that useful tbh. Granted they're just as impractical as R series astromech units outside of a starfighter socket. You can give a HK unit additional programming for maintenance and ship operation tasks, if they don't already have it. They're pretty mobile too and can use liquid cable throwers if necessary. And their combat frames should be useful when you have to move heavy cargo. But the ID-9 is a good idea. Its flight capability and small size make it ideal for scouting.

It seems like it would be really hard to fly. In fact, I seem to remember a bit of lore from somewhere saying that it was, and was not recommended for new pilots, but I couldn’t find that back when writing the video.
Why is it that when cargo capacity in Star Wars is measured, it's based on weight instead of volume despite so much of the time the cargo is being hauled through space where weight is less important?
I wonder that all the time. The real-life reason is probably that it’s easier to just pick an arbitrary number that fits the role of the ship rather than actually calculate the volume of the ship and decide how much is cargo space. I suppose you could also say that the weight is just how much extra the repulsorlifts are rated to carry or something, too.
@@RadioFreeCoruscant I like the repulsorlift reasoning. That sounds like something Lucasfilm would use as an explanation. Because of the functionality of ships in Star Citizen, I like to use them as a reference point for understanding the volume of cargo space in Star Wars ships.
My brother and I would argue all the time as kids (When the game came out) and adults over who's ship was faster. The Millennium Falcon, Outrider, or The Moldy Crow. He was a massive Dash Rendar fan and when Kenner came out with the first action figure for Render, I walked 4 damn miles with my saved up lunch money to K-mart just to get him it as a surprise. We finally agreed years later that the Falcon was faster, Outrider was better in combat, and Moldy Crow was the pale horse who walked calmly but brought total destruction. Don't get us going on who's a better gunfighter, Solo, Rendar, or Katarn... oh and IG-88, we still hate you...
Long live Dash Rendar, Long live the Outrider
I always loved the YT-2400
I've sorta headcanoned that the standard YT-2400 had such an outstretched cockpit because it was designed to carry slightly more hazardous cargo.

That's a good a reason as any. Works for me !
If it's picking up cargo from below, it would give a much better view.
Kind of reminds me of a yard dog.

I’ll have to make a video on it someday! And maybe a list video of all the YT series freighters.
Oh my you managed to make a 3d interior! Cool!
It’s actually from an old game, Star Wars Galaxies! I just did the lighting and animations. Glad you liked it though!
@RadioFreeCoruscant really well thought out!

That does it. I'm subscribing! 🤘
The was also a 2400 taking off in the Mos Eisley scene Special edition.
@@davidragan9233 that was specifically Dash Rendar's Outrider

I loved that game! I bought it from the local video store after I rented it a few times.
I would love to hear a video about the best. Droid companions for a ship or just in general? In your opinion
A quartet of HK-55s should do the trick. Best "bodyguard" Droids around and with their meatbag banter it'll never get boring.

If I was a ship captain in the Star Wars galaxy, one of the ships I would want is the YT-2400.
Dash Render and Kyle Katarina would make a great series.
I always had a hard time playing with those types of ships in games, I never could figure out just how far that extra bit stuck out.

I liked the toy they made for this. Just liked the big gun it had on the port side.

I consider the yt2.4k to be far superior than the 1.3k. Hell, I remember the video game when it came out WAAAAAAAAAAY back then
They make a action figure size one of these too
