Would like to point out a few things: 1. On the Akira-Class, in beta-canon, It entered somewhat limited service prior to Wolf 359 and was actually meant to fight the Cardassians, although following the Border Wars’ end its project was shelved due to the design’s overly-tactical nature, however two ships of the class were in service and one was present in at Wolf 359, the U.S.S. Kaneda, it performance would lead Starfleet to revive the Akira-Class project. 2. On the Saber-Class It is possible that maybe the U.S.S. Yeager was one of the Saber-class ships destroyed at Sector 001, hence why the name was able to be Reused on the Yeager-Class successor. 3. The U.S.S. Lexington may not have been decommissioned following the Battle of Sector 001, my guess is it was decommissioned later on, probably not long following the introduction of the Sutherland-Class, or perhaps it was decommissioned earlier due to being rendered obsolete? Either way I doubt she was decommissioned due to damage simply from the fact that she is preserved. 4. There was a U.S.S. Madison mentioned in dialogue with a commander ludwig aboard. While not shown on screen or confirmed in canon, the Madison in beta-canon is said to be a Galaxy-Class ship, and most likely one to have participated, but that’s dependent upon whether or not Hayes made a different, then destroyed, one his flagship?
There was way more than 30 ships involved in this battle (the 30 ships we see are the survivors), the entire Federation fleet was involved in a running battle with the cube (it probably wiped out a signification amount of the initial battle lines of older ships, and only hit resistance when it encountered the strong newer ships when getting closer to Earth). Ultimately the tactics were better in this battle because it involved the Federation using hit and runs with squadron based tactics but they lost a lot of ships in their engagements. Probably over 100, just they had more to throw at the cube this time. Han and Chewie of course were instrumental in the success.
Still, Starfleet were doing a whole lot better than wolf 359. That massacre only lasted probably 1 - 2 hour. During battle of sector 001, they have ships left to finish off the cube by the end of the battle. I bet during wolf 359, Starfleet has absolutely no idea how to fight the cube. They're used to small scale engagement of 3 or 4 starship against similar number enemy, or large fleet action like in Romulan war or Klingon Federation war. They never have to fight a huge ship with more firepower and defense than 200 of their best ship combined. Although during frontier day, funnily enough, the exact opposite of battle of sector 001 occur with Starfleet fighting using giant structure (Earth Spacedock) while the borg use large fleets of ships.
Video idea every ship type at battle of gintoka or battle of cardassia (not every ship name obviously tho lol just types) Norway and steam runner are my two favorite designs. I would love to see one of them as a hero ship or even a newer design of them but just scaled up like a sovereign or nebula class size steam runner that’s a heavy tactical cruiser used by star fleet security (starfleets big stick lol)
Star Trek:Every ship of the Battle of Sector 001: Akira Class Starships Steamrunner Class Starships Saber Class Starships Norway Class Starships Defiant Class Starship Sovereign Class Starship Nebula Class Starships Soyuz Class Starship Oberth Class Starships Miranda Class Starships Borg Cube Brief Appearance of the Millennium Falcon
This was a great one. I love ships! It seems like some of the sizes might be a bit off. The Sabre Class is smaller more like: (L) 190.5m (B) 193.2m (H) 48.6m
For me, I’d want to command the USS Endeavour. She is one my favourite named ships and seems to have Hero-Ship levels of plot armour; survived Wolf 359, survived the Battle of Sector 001 and then apparently survived the Dominion War. The ILM treatment on the Nebula looks utterly gorgeous as well, and is a design I’ve git a soft spot for. So if I could pick a ship, it would be the mighty, apparently invincible, Endeavour.
I would like to Captain a Norway class. I love that class and it truly needs more love in the Star Trek universe. I would love to see a series with that class as the hero ship.
As shown tactics clearly changed from Hanson’s line based approach to a swarm slugfest. I don’t know if Hayes decided to throw out the subtleties or if the fleet was unmanaged and just covering for each other at that point but seeing earth so close likely led everyone to throw everything but the kitchen sink.
Some of the ships at the battle probably weren't meant to be fighting. In the movie, the Borg broke through the Federation line and it took a while for the Enterprise to arrive so some of those older ships probably were recalled back to Earth when they heard the fleet needed reenforcements.
Did you know following it's guest appearance in first contact the Defiant took a detour following the millennium falcon back to the star wars universe, it is in its own blink and you'll miss it cameo in Episode 3 during the battle of Couricant
8:31 According to the novel “Ship of the Line”, the USS Bozeman in this battle was NOT the original Soyuz class; it became a museum ship @ Starbase 12. It was the Bozeman II, which was previously the USS Roderick, a Sovereign Class. Unless this is contradicted in a canon source (which I don't think it is), it seems reasonable to assume this information is correct.
@@TrekCentral Agreed, but I believe that the general rule of thumb is that a beta canon source can be considered true if it isn't contradicted by a canon source. As I said in my original comment, I'm not aware of such a contradiction in the movie. The Bozeman is mentioned over coms, but do we SEE either a Soyuz or Sovereign Class on screen?
Some of these ships such as the Sabre, Norway, Akira, Defiant and Soverign got to do what they were designed for. To fight, and defeat the Borg. One cube versus an armada. Although, if it wasn’t for Picard showing up with the Enterprise, the battle would have lilely gone another direction
Duuuude the Millenium Falcon being there is news to me and I've seen First Contact a few times over the years! Wow! Also I like how Cochrane tests his warp drive for the first time a day after what would be my 64th birthday lol. Also, definitely with you on wanting to command the Enterprise E. The Sovereign class is the pride of the Federation fleet and would be the dream command of any aspiring captain of the era!
The strangest thing is that there were actually a bunch of ships in sector 001. Usually there’s only one ship in the entire sector. The most important sector in all of Starfleet.
Sabers are supposed to be more on the order of ~170ish meters, fwiw. Rick Sternbach, who partly authored the DS9 Technical Manual, admitted that there were several scaling mistakes in the book. Oh: and the Defiant took part in the 001 fight a LONG time before Chin'toka :) Some canon indicates the 001 battle actually happened _before_ the Dominion War, also.
Also, by some beta sources they weren't fighting a standard Borg cube, it was an assimilation cube, much stronger than a normal cube or even an armored tactical cube. The upgraded fleet would have beat down a standard cube.
8:30 I have to believe that after all those years, Starfleet just didn't have the heart to decommission the Boseman so elected to let Capt Bateson go out in a blaze of glory... 😅
I remember seeing something like 2 or 3 Akira Class Starships that was part of the small fleet that also included 2 Defiant Class Starships that were pursuing the stolen Prototype U.S.S. Prometheus that was stolen by the Romulans in the Star Trek:Voyager episode 'Message in a Bottle'.
What I find funny and poetic is that Starfleet and the borg would replay this battle but in the exactly opposite way. Instead of the borg attacking with one giant structure (borg cube) against defending Starfleet ships, it would be Starfleet defending with one giant structure (Earth Spacedock) against a borg fleet during Frontier Day in Star Trek Picard. I wonder if it comes down to it, would Earth Spacedock of 2360's survive or even win against a weakened borg cube in the battle of sector 001?
For me Akira Class. Also Sabre Class is great. From what I read (mostly games) the Sabre acts kind of a "fast Police Force" in (and around friendly) Federation Space.
One of my gripes about the galaxy was it's slow and under armed. Two torp launchers for such a big ship like come on at least four. But I adore the Akira. It's a pure dedicated torp boat.they even had side launched torpedoes. Not much in phaser strips just three but like fifteen torp launchers. That's why it's a badass.
Gotta love how everyone ignores the fact that ILM been involved in Star Trek since the beginning (almost but one of the early guys there did work on the original series though). There wasn’t much choice at the time for model building and special effects (outside in house work) besides ILM doing quality work. It’s fitting since Star Trek helped inspire Star Wars/ILM with the original series and then ILM helped design and make models of spacecraft for the movies and TNG (so on) going forward. It’s almost like they’re friendly rivals and don’t hate each other like some of the fans from both fandoms.
Not surprised that ILM inserted the Falcon. While they do a *lot* of Vfx work, including past work for Trek, they are by far best known for Star Wars. And this was in 1996, so Disney did not yet own ILM.
Not Star Trek, but the original Enterprise appeared as part of the surviving fleet of ships towards the end of Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica miniseries.
The Norway-class main computer file was corrupted and lost sometime after the movie. So they could not reuse it again. Their were plans to see more of the ship in the 6-7th season of DS9. Also the Saber-class were the intended replacements for the Miranda-class ships. Since SF was hurting on manpower, they designed ships with small crews.
Thanks for making a follow-up video! STO made the old-school Battle of Wolf 359 cool for me, and I hope they give the Battle of Sector 001 the in-game treatment too. =/\=
I would want to command an Akira class! I would like to point out one thing tho, it has way more than two torpedo launchers. It has 12 on the weapons pod, 2 on each side of the saucer and a handful more on the front of the saucer. Its something like 19 or 20 total.
In order of my commanding a starship: a Steamrunner class, a Norway class, and a Saber class. The Stemrunner class would be named after a World War Two general, the Norway class would be named after a NASA medical doctor, and the Saber class would be one attached to the Starfleet Corps of Engineers.
I didn't know about the MF being in that battle until recently when you could see it in the remaster, there was actually 1 named Miranda class at that battle, the USS Bozeman. I remember being disappointed that there was no Intrepid class visible during that battle as it was hinted at during the teaser trailer when we saw footage of Voyager firing on a borg cube. As for what ship I'd command, it would have to be the hero of the movie, USS Enterprise E. What happened to that btw? In Picard S3 it was hinted that it either went missing or was destroyed while being commanded by Worf.
I would probably want command of a Nova class science Vessel, it had type 10 phasers, torpedo launchers And a kickass design., most importantly, it could land on a planet and it had Holodecks, Plus it did not require a huge crew which is great because I don't have very many friends lol
Something I don't get, Battle of sector 001 took place around the time when the Dominion war was on the verge of starting, so how could Sisko loan the Defiant to Worf and let him go defend Earth, while leaving DS9 undefended (even though by this time there was a permanent Klingon detachment stationed, still a relatively small force) I take it this took place before the Dominion captured DS9, since the war begins from this point on, and the alliance was getting routed in the beginning, the Defiant couldn't have had time to go back to Earth.
375 meters length appears a bit too big for the Steamrunner. At Ex-Astris Scientia there is an article debating the size of that ship. I think, that 244 m length is more suitable. The Akira had no less then 20 Torpedo launchers! The weapons pod: aft port:4, aft starboard: 4, front upper half: 4, front lower: 3, saucer port: 2, saucer starbord: 2, saucer underside:1
I'll take the Defiant. Indeed a tough little ship slugging it out with the cube from the onset of the battle. Fast agile & heavily armed & armored with top of the line targeting systems what is not to like. and if things go sideways the front of the ship is a giant warhead & you get to go out like a true Klingon. Prepare for ramming speed.
I don't think the "Falcon" was there, it looked more like a shuttle craft escaping 😅. But, I do remember someone said 2009 Star Trek, when the Enterprise went into the fleet massacre spot, someone had seen "Auto D2" floating by 😅....so, anything could be possible 😅
Plottwist: the Millennium Falcon is the same Falcon that crashed on Earth in comics *Into The Great Unknown* Indiana Jones and friends secretly recovered the Falcon and stored it on Area 51 later and repaired with help of ET that come to Earth when they landed in Roswell
The thing that has always bothered me about the Borg is that they are all about how fast they adapt to defeat an opponent, but this has only ever applied to their shielding. They never change tactics, or weapons, or try any novel approaches in an attempt to defeat Starfleet. The only science-like move that they make is in the first encounter when they cut out a bit of the saucer section to study. Maybe a little more when they send drones aboard to look through the computer banks, but that's it. That's their whole "adaptation matrix". It's weak sauce.
The thing that annoys me with the shots at Earth, where are all the space stations? I guess you could argue they have engines and can move out of orbit in case of emergency.

14:38 the Borg Queen was on bord the Cube at the Battle of Wolf 359 too, Picard said that and was wondering how shes still alive
Video idea every ship type at battle of gintoka or battle of cardassia (not every ship name obviously tho lol just types)
Norway and steam runner are my two favorite designs. I would love to see one of them as a hero ship or even a newer design of them but just scaled up like a sovereign or nebula class size steam runner that’s a heavy tactical cruiser used by star fleet security (starfleets big stick lol)
A great battle. I loved the new ships when I saw the film - for some reason, the Norway and Saber classes were my favorite.
Star Trek:Every ship of the Battle of Sector 001:
Akira Class Starships
Steamrunner Class Starships
Saber Class Starships
Norway Class Starships
Defiant Class Starship
Sovereign Class Starship
Nebula Class Starships
Soyuz Class Starship
Oberth Class Starships
Miranda Class Starships
Borg Cube
Brief Appearance of the Millennium Falcon
I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd love to be in command of The Defiant. It's not exactly an orthodox Starfleet ship but it's clearly the coolest!!
Get the name of Worf ship right. It was The USS Pimphand
@@reginaldshort8486 the USS Ben Sisko's mothafuckin' pimphand
8:31 According to the novel “Ship of the Line”, the USS Bozeman in this battle was NOT the original Soyuz class; it became a museum ship @ Starbase 12. It was the Bozeman II, which was previously the USS Roderick, a Sovereign Class. Unless this is contradicted in a canon source (which I don't think it is), it seems reasonable to assume this information is correct.
True, though the novels are not canon, so for the moment it looks like it is the original Bozeman etc :)
- Jack
@@TrekCentral Agreed, but I believe that the general rule of thumb is that a beta canon source can be considered true if it isn't contradicted by a canon source. As I said in my original comment, I'm not aware of such a contradiction in the movie. The Bozeman is mentioned over coms, but do we SEE either a Soyuz or Sovereign Class on screen?
@@augiegirl1 It is even mentioned in the CCG of Star Trek, First Contact Edition that's the original Soyuz Bozeman.
The Nebula class is my favorite.
Oh: and the Defiant took part in the 001 fight a LONG time before Chin'toka :)
Some canon indicates the 001 battle actually happened _before_ the Dominion War, also.
I would say that the Borg were well on the way to spanking Starfleet, again. It was Picard's intimate knowledge of the Borg that saved the day.
Saber class. Personal fav.
Honestly, I would love to command an Akira class ship at the Battle of Sector 001.
1 Akira, 2 Defiants - against 3 Warbirds and the Prometheus. Very confident. But a fun episode.
With how delicate Oberth ships are I can only assume they were acting in a secondary role, like an AWACS or Comms ship.
So many wonderful, at that time, new designs. Thanks for another lovely vid. And, I would love to command them all, but I have to go with an Akira.
Wonderful!
You got the length of the Saber class wrong because of an error in the DS9 technical manual. It should be similar to the Defiant class.
Id love to here if there were anymore mystery ships Like the Millenium Falcon that were sneaked into any other Star Trek films or series ?
Not Star Trek, but the original Enterprise appeared as part of the surviving fleet of ships towards the end of Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica miniseries.
@mb2000 thankyou for letting me know that I didn't know that 😃
R2-D2 was hidden among debris in both Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek: Into Darkness
I love seeing Star Trek Armada 3 footage
It's a fantastic mod to be honest! :D
By the time of the battle of sector 001, Starfleet should've had a fleet of Defiant class ships....
I like me the scruffy and scrappy tough little ship, the Defiant class.
Little?!
I would want to command an Akira class! I would like to point out one thing tho, it has way more than two torpedo launchers. It has 12 on the weapons pod, 2 on each side of the saucer and a handful more on the front of the saucer. Its something like 19 or 20 total.
All those ships were developed after wolf 359. All was designed to fight the Borg
In order of my commanding a starship: a Steamrunner class, a Norway class, and a Saber class. The Stemrunner class would be named after a World War Two general, the Norway class would be named after a NASA medical doctor, and the Saber class would be one attached to the Starfleet Corps of Engineers.
EC Henry made a video on a Starfleet Falcon its pretty good
I didn't know about the MF being in that battle until recently when you could see it in the remaster, there was actually 1 named Miranda class at that battle, the USS Bozeman.
You forgot the oberth class and the cornelian yt freighter (modified) lol🤣🤣🙄😉😜😆😁👍
So I guess the Millennium Falcon got a an NCC registry too , and what called the U.S.S Flacon by her Captain no doubt .
The Akira class looks like the spiritual successor to the NX-01
Everybody loves the Akira. I dunno why. Probably because it's like a tank.
The Borg Queen is on every Borg ship. She is the Borg.
Wolf 359 wasn't a battle, it was a massacre.
I always liked the Norway class
I would probably want command of a Nova class science Vessel, it had type 10 phasers, torpedo launchers And a kickass design., most importantly, it could land on a planet and it had Holodecks,
Plus it did not require a huge crew which is great because I don't have very many friends lol
Sovereign and it's not even close. Well number two is the Akira.
I would like to be on a Akira Class Ship. Because it can take a beating and deliver a strong punch!
Something I don't get, Battle of sector 001 took place around the time when the Dominion war was on the verge of starting, so how could Sisko loan the Defiant to Worf and let him go defend Earth, while leaving DS9 undefended (even though by this time there was a permanent Klingon detachment stationed, still a relatively small force)
I take it this took place before the Dominion captured DS9, since the war begins from this point on, and the alliance was getting routed in the beginning, the Defiant couldn't have had time to go back to Earth.
God i love the Akira
Its so menacing, hunched over and ready for a fight.
It looks like a Klingon designed it.
I never knew the millennium falcon was in this movie thanks for telling me
Happy to help!
- Jack
375 meters length appears a bit too big for the Steamrunner. At Ex-Astris Scientia there is an article debating the size of that ship. I think, that 244 m length is more suitable.
The Akira had no less then 20 Torpedo launchers! The weapons pod: aft port:4, aft starboard: 4, front upper half: 4, front lower: 3, saucer port: 2, saucer starbord: 2, saucer underside:1
Your image for the "mysterious ship" at 15:56 is flipped.
The cockpit is on the other side
The shot is that way around in the film, so either the animators mirrored the model while animating it, or we're seeing it from beneath.
Sadly I was told that Akira was not named after Asa... Sad missed chance.
i would want a steamrunner or a sabre. i think it'd be cool to operate in a wolf pack with other sabres and steamrunners
Indeed it was there ;)
Either the Sovereign or the Defiant for me.
Wish we'd seen some daedalus class ships for medical support it would have made sense and looked cool
Plottwist: the Millennium Falcon is the same Falcon that crashed on Earth in comics *Into The Great Unknown*
Indiana Jones and friends secretly recovered the Falcon and stored it on Area 51 later and repaired with help of ET that come to Earth when they landed in Roswell
If I was given a choice to make one of the new ships into a hero ship I would choose the Steamrunner.
