THE FIRST TIME Erica and Austin met in person was not your typical first date, in some bar or restaurant. It was outside the gates of a prison in Iowa, on his release day after serving a seven year sentence for his part in an armed robbery. They had been put in touch seven months earlier by a mutual friend, who had suggested that realtor Erica may be able to help Austin find a place to live once he got out. And though romance was the furthest thing from both their minds at the time, the more they talked on the phone, the stronger their feelings for one another grew. Though loved ones questioned why Erica was turning down dates to stay home and talk to a man in prison thousands of miles away, they soon came around once they saw how happy she was. The couple have also faced their fair share of criticism from online trolls - but proved all the haters wrong when they tied the knot days after Christmas 2021. She said: "People judge from a 15 second online clip when they have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. But I'm really excited for this next chapter with Austin. The future is bright."

It pisses me off when these girls minimize the guys crimes too. He wasn't at the wrong place at the wrong time, he was the getaway driver, and she knows damn well too. She deserves the guy, but her kid deserves better.

You’re right! My mom’s friend did that with a man convicted for raping his daughter and her best friend, getting them both pregnant. My mom’s friend married this scummy man and their whole marriage was messed up, as he was lazy and controlling.
When the daughters became that he fathered with his daughter and her best friend turned 14, he would take them to a motel and he raped them. The funny thing about it is that my mom’s friend had the audacity to be in denial when the girls told her what he was doing.
So, I can’t chance it with offenders. That’s a horrible story and I hope that he rots in prison forever.
Driving the car for a person to rob a woman at gun point is not a wrong time, wrong place situation.

I'm not buying his story that he had no idea what was about to happen and just drove away out of fear..She needs to really look into the details of his case..If I heard right,he was 18 when he went in,so you can best believe he got tried while he was in there and probably got done too,so I hope she's smart enough to make him get tested before they engage in any activities..The thing that bothers me is her introducing this man into her daughter's life,she has no idea what he's truly capable of and she shouldn't have him around her or communicating with her in any way,, until she gets to a point where she understands him better outside prison walls..

Men in prison know how to charm and talk to women to get what they want. I am talking from experience.... they have a sense of manipulation. I don't want to rain on her parade, but I hope it ends well and he learned his lesson. Women should stop making excuses for men. Period!
I’ve dated several guys who went to prison and I’ll keep it 100, EVERY.SINGLE.ONE had issues! I’m talking each had undiagnosed mental health issues (some genetic, some triggered by abuse or other factors as children or teens that exacerbated as young men in prison) ranging from anxiety to depression to bipolar disorder, with that came hot tempered outbursts (I’m talking 0-100 over the most minute issues), which triggered them to engage in domestic violence be it physical, mental and emotional abuse, all struggled w/ some sort of addictions be it alcohol or other drugs, inability to remain monogamous, extreme jealousy, unable to keep a job and/or find employment, those who were fathers experienced strained relationships w/ their children, their families and the list goes on. NOT saying that every man or woman who’s done time and could check off a few or many of the boxes just mentioned hasn’t been able to overcome adversity bc of course it’s always possible. I’ve had friends return home completely new and improved! They used that time wisely to right their wrongs and accomplish goals.
W/ all that being said, chick lives in a dream world it seems. This is one of the most downplayed, cookie cutter versions of a prison relationship that I’ve ever seen! Both in person and through media. She’s downplayed his crime and the time as if dude stole a candy bar and in turn his parents sent him away to summer camp or military school. This relationship and the way it’s depicted is soo unrealistic! Majority of prison relationships DO NOT transition this smoothly/peacefully! Period. Maybe they’re the exception. The 1 in a 1,000,000! If so, I wish them well! However, I foresee problems ahead. Did anyone else notice how a comment on her TikTok mentioned they saw the bf talking to another girl? 🤔

You are absolutely right. He said that he went to Prison at 18, which means that Prison Raised him. And as for his crime, there is more to that. Austin is a good looking guy and while in Prison he picked the Woman that can support him most & kept her after he got out. Then talked about all she's done for him.🤔

Sorry, but seven years is within the standard for armed robbery, and it’s a fair sentence. He was in the car. There’s absolutely no way to prove that he wasn’t involved, or that he didn’t know what was going to happen. I’m glad he’s out and hopefully he’s changed and not hanging around those types of people anymore.
Yeah the worse crimes deserve longer sentences.
I’m glad he has the opportunity to turn over a new leaf. He committed a crime and did the time, and now he has a right to re-enter society. I just hope they both understand the need to put her daughter first and make decisions that are best for her and any future children.
I have a friend who married a guy who was in prison for robbery for 7 years, he was very young at that time. They have great marrige, 2 sons and baby on the way.

I've been around the block a time or two and I know sometimes people do dumb stuff (myself included) that years after they would never do. Lots of people don't realize how quickly you can get mixed up with the wrong people.

For example, narcissistic abuse from the primary caregivers: a common abuse tactic is to withhold vital information & education from their children. Jealous parents do this. Survivors of abusive and/or narcissistic parents often have to raise themselves & learn things thru making many mistakes. Additionally, there are mental illnesses that cause people to be easily manipulated, easily influenced, easily taken advantage of, etc. Essentially what I’m saying is, not everyone is born and matures on an even playing field, and I agree with the OP.

My friend is the only person I know who did this and she’s been very lucky. It’s a little different as they’ve been friends in their high school days. Both went into different directions, married and had kids with other people and reconnected in their late 30s. My friends daughter was already in high school when he got out and they married within the same week. 15 years later and they are still very happy.
Before his arrest he was in drug distribution and after his release he put his energy into legal business and created a small, successful construction and renovation company. It’s definitely a gamble and luck was on my friends side.

This relationship is a potentially high risk situation for your daughter. Remember- kids don’t have a choice. Whatever you bring in the house they have to be stuck with it until you choose to do something different. You don’t know this man.. PLEASE don’t let your feelings lead… Go to family therapy and continue even if things feel fine. A trained professional will help you to sort through this process so that everyone has a chance to be safe. If he refuses therapy or tells even the smallest lies- RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!

Don't really think it's a wrong place, wrong time situation. They seem happy together and there's been worst couples on these series. I wouldn't personally start a relationship with anyone in prison... if my current partner went to prison, well that's a grey area to think about. Honestly, if the person is trying to live a straight life once he's out, then let him correct his life. It was her choice to even start dating him. I hope their relationship works out and continues to grow for the sake of her daughter as well.

I can't judge them and I do understand her mothers genuine concern when she told her that she was dating a man from prison, but they do seem genuinely happy and he does really seem to care about her daughter and enjoys spending time with her as well which is an added bonus. Ok so I don't usually speak up on these but this one got me! Ik we have to be extremely careful when dating a man after prison but there are men who do worse things and never get caught, that never go to prison, so either way it can be a gamble. I hope for the best for this couple. My bro was actually in prison for like 8 yrs. He's been out for over 20yrs, never committed another crime, got his mastery in electrical, married to the same women, has gotten pardoned after 20yrs, and is now working for the city as the city electrician.

It's different for everyone my brother met his daughters mother while in prison. When he came out it lasted 2 years. In those 2 years they had two girls back to back. And they broke up
