WITH 25 years between them, couple Felicia and Adam Fredrickson are used to raised eyebrows but it’s not the age gap that has most concerned their loved ones. Talking of his ‘bad boy’ past, Adam has served time in prison and has a history of addiction before finally turning his life around. By the time he met Felicia, Adam was clean and volunteering with several rehab charities but his lengthy criminal record and jail time still alarmed Felicia’s parents. When the couple got married, the initial hope was that Felicia’s parents would be there on the day but it ended up being a small ceremony with just 16 guests - and without her parents. Felicia, 21, and Adam, 46, from Minnesota, hope to have a second bigger ceremony in October 2020. At the moment Felicia’s parents are not due to attend but Felicia is still in contact and they tentatively hope that the family can be reunited.

I would see an addiction as a bit of a red flag, but as someone who’s currently fighting an addiction I have a new appreciation for people who have been able to overcome it and beat it. I’m really glad that he seems so much better off now.

It seems like he’s been in recovery for many years before he met her and generally and even statistically in relationships where the person has been clean for two years and more the statistics of the relationship working is very good. It’s also a good sign that they met at an activity like volunteering. It shows that they have a deep common interest intend to be empathetic people. A lot of younger people tend to get in the system and get stuck in the system when they’re young and addicted to drugs. without the proper treatment especially when it comes to childhood trauma and addiction it’s almost impossible to get out of the system without a few felony’s.

I met my boyfriend when I was 17 and he was 24. I helped him get better and he helped me learn about life. We grew together. We now own our own beautiful home and have a son and 2 dogs with amazing jobs. If it's legal and both parties consent then there's nothing wrong with that. (Where we live 17 is the age of consent) you can clearly see this man has finally bettered himself and they are really in love

I was 20yo when I met my jailbird future husband who was 45 years young. Few months later I said Ok I be yours if you straighten up..and he did! No more alcohol (mostly because I don't), quit smoking and hasn't been in trouble since 2007. Yes it's been 14 years and 3 kids later we are still going strong. :)

What kind of parents throw their daughter under the bus like this? Yeah, you’re not happy, but it’s her life. Support her, be there for her, love her. Whenever I see parents like this, its hard to think of them as loving parents when they only care about their own agenda and preferences.

Im 30 my husband of 10 years is 56. He is only 2 yrs younger then my parents. My parents werent excepting at first but within a year they came to terms with it and now me and my husband have a daughter together and my parents love their granddaughter more then anything.
This relationship is beautiful. My now husband is 14 years older than me and we both come from very different backgrounds. We have been together 14 years and my family never accepted him fully. It hurt for a while but now I’m ok. Whether they accept him or not you both will be ok.

Adam was totally 'correct' -> he was not dating many women at a time ... he was only "spending time" w/ her to see if they were suited for marriage : ) he was being upfront & honest about his intentions ... In the old days ~ this was called "Courtship" & yes, like this couple, there was an "exclusivity" to it - How wonderfully refreshing to see this still going on !

I am having the same issue except, I am 41 and my husband is 30. He had a bad past with drugs also, has one felony one his record but has been in recovery for about 5 yrs now! We have both been to intreàment programs that worked well for us ,have gone to celebrate Recovery and actually met at a sobriety meditation meeting! My parents hate him and are now not really as big of a part of my life! He is the best man I have evr been with. Kind caring and understanding. He tàkes amazing care of me and we support eàch other and our sobriety! People do change.... CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU BOTH !! KEEP ON KEEPING ON.....LET GO AND LET GOD.
