    I feel like a found footage of the zombie outbreak could work if the story was about a cop and what we're seeing is their body camera.

    • @Wetbread88
      @Wetbread88 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      genius. It would explain why the "camera man" NEVER gets rid of the camera despite it being the smart thing to do and can easily be explained "during the panic he forgot to take/turn off the camera" versus "oh geez I got to record everything and be a nuisance because it's my journalistic duty"

    • @MamaMOB
      @MamaMOB 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think it could work if they went full blooded documentary style. Where what we’re seeing is the zombie outbreak not specific survivors surviving the zombie outbreak. That way we could get found footage from many different people and it still makes sense.
      Your idea is also absolutely phenomenal! But I don’t think they had those when this movie originally came out.

    • @MuertaNox
      @MuertaNox 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@MamaMOB Look, that's what I wanted for World War Z. The book's a series of interviews, right? So we shoulda gotten the interviews as a framing device and source of narration with cuts to 'footage later recovered from security cameras and personal recording devices' and 'events portrayed by actors' scenes filmed later in-universe like how we get with the History Channel.

    I would like to see a found footage film where if the camera's off, it's like a cinematic film, but if it's on, it goes back to being found footage. It might not work, but it's an interesting thing to experiment with.

      I think in the right circumstances it could be rather effective. For example: a movie with a monster (or monsters) that are invisible to the naked eye and can only be picked up on cameras. There are multiple points when the cameras are broken or lose power and it gets really intense when they can't see whatever's attacking them and they have to find ways to get the cameras working again.

    Apparently the paramedics felt no need to buckle the patients in before transporting them out of the building. You know, it kinda just makes it more fun- like balancing a martini on a drink tray. Oops! the stretcher leaned that time, now our patient's head is cracked open like a melon. Damn, and just 3 more stairs to go!
    And the defibrillator- first of all, the ones in the hospital do not say "shock advised", those are the tiny AED machines and they don't tell you that until you've attached the pads and let the machine analyze the heart's electrical activity. Then, if the AED discovers the patient's heart is in Atrial Fibrillation, only then would it say "shock advised" and that is so the average street Joe could use the device correctly. Talking only about the hospital model- at the very worst, if you repeatedly shocked a person in the same place 3 to 5 times without gel, they might- MIGHT have burn marks. Bodies do not pop up off the table and they certainly wouldn't send the eyes shooting out of the skull.

    Love your reviews, your commentary is always spot on and a delight. Note: I worked 5 years as a Dispatcher for an Ambulance company and it was odd when a Paramedic did Not have some kind of defence training of some kind. Some patients act a bit crazy and you are not allowed a gun or most weapons on an ambulance.. so that kick worked.

Hard to believe that this was made by the same guy who did three of the best zombie films ever. Also, hospitals would become zombie factories during a zombie apocalypse, NOT ABANDONED!! 15:30- I would love to see a zombie film taking place in or near an Amish community, just to see how their society would react compared to our far more frequent reliance on modern technology, ever changing culture, and divisive ideals. What would they do? How quickly would they decide to fight back? Would their religious beliefs affect the situation?
    23:05- I think you missed one, Deusdeacon. Introducing Boyd Banks, yet another Dawn of the Dead remake cast reference to a far superior film in a feeble possible attempt to somehow link this next-generation Romero schlock.

    I think this film is a masterpiece. Unironically. I think it's one of the best found footage movies as well. I didn't realize it had so much hate until years later when I got more into online reviews and things. I guess I'm seeing things no one else is. I don't know. Everyone is different. I don't really nitpick stuff like some people.

      Theres not being nitpicky and then theres not having standards, I normally wouldn't tell people what to like but jesus christ! a masterpiece ?! by any actual metric thats ludicrous also this is barely a found footage film, it has footage that is found yes but doesn't actually bother to use the medium in any meaningful way and resorts to regular film technique instead, if you think this is a masterpiece I wouldn't dare recommend a good found footage film just incase you spontaneously combusted.

      @@deusdeaconReviews I've literally seen every found footage film that there is. Or that is at least readily available or known(hell I've even seen some shitty TH-cam made ones). I can guess what the recommendation would be, because it's always the same two movies from any fan of the genre. It sure as hell isn't going to be "The Tunnel" or "Cloverfield".
      I'm a big Romero fan. Myself and my family grew up in the same area he lived and worked. My mother was on site for the filming of "The Crazies". I've always been partial to his work,whether it's perceived as good or bad.
      I saw the film as soon as it was released. I think at the time the message was clear and relevant,if not very subtle. It still is. People still seek fame (or likes) under the guise of "telling a story" no matter the cost to themselves or others. Theres also some jabs at the mainstream media,and the way people are now with cameras and smart phones. I think that's the whole reason the "found footage" is even there. It's a plot device,and nothing more. I will definitely concede that,and the fact that it didn't try anything new.
      Maybe it's just personal taste,or because I saw it at the right time,but I stick by my statement. I wasn't exactly comparing it to Cannibal Holocaust or whatever. There's other films I would consider masterpieces that I know nobody would agree with, including The Crow,Battle Royale,Cloud Atlas,You're Next,etc. I really only watch horror with very few exceptions.
      I think the film is better than Land of the Dead,and better than Survival of the Dead (which people really enjoy,idk why). Anyways I'm a big fan of the channel,I appreciate the interaction,even if our opinions differ. You put a lot of work and heart in your content,I wish you the best.

      Not gonna lie, it's up there as one of my favorite Romero movies as well. It's one of the only ones I own, being it and the original. Though that's mainly cause i don't actively look for them, and saw this in a bargain bin and remembered enjoying it. Though my opinion doesn't count for many things, as I enjoy a lot of "bad" movies, a lot of the time for the things that make them bad.

    I’m just going to come out and say it. Romero made great horror films, but his dead movies ain’t among them. I’ll acknowledge that night of the living dead was creative and brilliant, and day of the dead is an interesting drama, but none of these films make for good horror. We talk about zombie fatigue but the reality is zombies in the Romero style were never interesting. They can’t exist without a hamfisted message about (communism, consumerism...other things edgy teenagers wine about). They have no goal, no master, no purpose, no discernible rules. The old zombie concept of resurrecting the dead to do your bidding is terrifying and packed with potential. Night of the living dead was still sort of creepy because Romero had not yet perfected his zombie concept. It’s when Dawn of the dead turned zombies into a global, virus based, aimless mob that everything fell apart. There is NOTHING you can do with that concept. Anything interesting comes with human reaction to the zombies but the zombies themselves have no substance. Fuck bub. My dog is more interesting than bub.

    I don't think George Romero sucks as a director. He has good movies out side of the dead series such as Knightriders. Night and Dawn are great but by the the end of Day I could see the series start to go down hill. The lesbians kissing for the sake of lesbians kissing was a clear sign that the series needed to end. I never watched Survival of the Dead. At that point I gave up on the series.

    • @deusdeaconReviews
      @deusdeaconReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It not about whether romero sucked, it was a case of him being a director of a certain time, because films and filming techniques moved on and improved and he didn't, this film proved that because he simply had no idea what makes a found footage film good.

    Yo dude. As much as I love your videos, Romero not only created genre but was one of the first directors to push the envelope on social commentary. He definitely did misstep here but don't bash him as a director because his movies helped innovate strong lead characters, make up effects and story telling. He lost his way but he was just trying to pull on what made him famous. But the thing is we got so progressive that he was late to push that narrative. It's like saying "we get it Romero black characters can just as strong and interesting..." With Night of the Living Dead" c'mon dude. He was trying to shed some light.

      I get that romero made great films and if i was talking about those films I would talk about how great they are, but crap is crap romero's legacy is exactly why this shite got so much of a free pass from people in the first place, and i don't agree with that also i am so harsh on this film because romero should've known better this garbage was beneath him.

    • @solidsnack352
      @solidsnack352 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@deusdeaconReviews can't disagree with that, the movie and alot of the content is shit. My only point was just that your comments on his pushing a closer look at the issues of the time were pointless. But of course he's pushing an agenda, it was kinda his deal like Ripley being a strong female lead, he just unfortunately started pandering which I won't deny. I just think his later decisions shouldn't reflect on his legacy... that which he's remembered for and which made his career. Also can't stress this enough, you're also a legend in your own right. Looking past any sort of fanboy nonsense and take a REAL look at the work. Much. MUCH. Respect.

    Well despite the popular opinion of this film. I absolutely love this film. To me it's a film that's seriously misunderstood and way better then Land of the D
    ead or survival for that matter
    The characters in Diary of the Dead are more interesting in a cheesey way then in other films. Just because people miss the brilliance behind this film and completely misunderstood that yeah the movie does make fun of certain horror film cliches and then does it anyway it's called irony. As far as the zombie ignoring the cameraman and biting the friend it's called a cool surprise I love the moment and racks up good tension and ends with a cool kill. The whole point of the film as well is the hopeless situation the characters are in. But aside from all that stuff I will say if you don't like this film that is fine but to come out and just say the film is bad and try to pass that as fact is just showing a critic first and movie lover second. Other then the points mentioned I will say I highly enjoyed the film and will always disagree with anyone who says the film is bad and point them to really bad zombie film's. I welcome anyone to try and convince me this film is bad and that I am wrong.

    • @deusdeaconReviews
      @deusdeaconReviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You complain about me claiming what I say is fact, And yet you do the exact same thing, you like the film, fine I get that, but that doesn't mean you opinion has anymore weight then mine does, You'll find this film gets a pretty average 50% more or less across the board so its clear opinion is divided, also irony is not just doing the shit you make fun of, thats just being shit.
