As someone who's owned many Vics in his time, I can say that the stock airbox and zip tube do not need to be modified. It will flow enough air to feed a mildly modified Vic just fine. Headers for a Vic cost as much as if you were buying another car at the auction so not really "affordable." ( Over $1,000 for a set of the cheaper ones.) A TB spacer doesn't really do anything but make your throttle response a tiny bit snappier. With a little fabrication skills, there is a throttle body option for drive by wire cars. Get yourself a stock throttle body off a 5.4 liter 3V truck. Those are 75mm versus the 65mm that comes stock. Many CVPI's from 06 and up already have 3:55 gears which are just fine for road trips and the occasional stop light drag race. ( My 06 came stock with 3:55's and a limited slip trac lock.) The biggest horsepower gain you will ever get is from a custom tune. A custom tune is money well spent, especially if you're on a budget like most people. Upgrading the exhaust system is another worthwhile expense. Anyone who wants to get more power out of their Vic should concentrate on two things, upgrading the exhaust system, and getting a dyno tune. If you are going to put NOS on it, you should really think about upgrading the fuel pump to a high flow one considering the pump already in your fuel tank most likely has well over 100,000 miles on it. The first time your engine leans out on spray will be the last time it ever does. Again, using a power adder like spray requires other things to support it like proper fuel supply and of course you need a tune to get it to run right. Unless you want your pistons looking like somebody used them for blowtorch practice, or sending a connecting rod through the side of your engine block. But before someone thinks about modifying their engine, they should really make sure it is in good running condition. All sensors working properly, good spark plugs, and ignition coils, fuel pump in good shape or upgraded if planning on a power adder, changing the sloppy timing chains and worn guides that are bound to be on a car with over 100,000 miles like most Vics, and things like making sure they have changed the fuel filter. No sense in modifying an engine that runs like crap because of worn or malfunctioning components is there? Doing all of those "free" tricks won't amount to a hill of beans if that 30 or so horsepower you supposedly picked up is being robbed because your check engine light is on because your O2 sensors are bad or your cats are plugged.
04Interc3ptorP71 wow, good stuff. I’ve had my 03 grand mar for almost ten years and it’s completely stock. Always say if it ain’t stock then it’s unreliable.
Modified can be very reliable as well. It takes time and money though. You have to build it right. For instance, somebody with a civilian Vic can simply go to the pick a part and get the dual exhaust and aluminum driveshaft off a CVPI and gain an instant improvement for not a lot of money.
I have a video on how to fix a couple codes people sometimes get with their Vics. I've seen several online posts about the problem, but never a fix so I made a video to help with the issue. It's on my channel.
@Ford Fanatic Dude, it's not. I even did some of this stuff on my old Ranger and maybe got 15hp. My throttle response was a lot better, but overall acceleration didn't really improve. Mods like this are only good on light weight cars, or boosted cars. An extra 15hp on a tired, old, SOHC 4.6 in a car that weighs 4,000lbs, is not noticeable.
I just bought 2003 Crown Vic and it runs like a beast. It only cost me $800 but is literally almost like new besides some dirt and cigarette burns on the seats. No repairs or replacements needed so far, no accident history, and less than 100k miles on it. This comes into my life when I desperately needed transportation, so it's a huge blessing. I've fallen in love with it, and videos like these get me hyped on all the work I want to put into it.
Similar story here. Got my 02 a couple weeks ago with 161k miles, very clean with minor damage for $850. This is in the middle of me losing my house in a divorce and letting my mazda get repo'd and having to daily my 93 single cab flareside. Which is rather a pain fitting 2 adults and a 5 year old when it's a 5 speed and also as no working air. Definitely needed.
I found a throttle body spacer for my car at the junkyard and when I installed it the only noticeable difference was that it was more responsive at bottom end but once you got past a quarter throttle there was no difference.
LOL explain to me how adding a TB spacer makes your engine require 93 octane. Once you hear that hit the pause button and go back to watching Tom&Jerry you'll learn more there.
I know enough that a TB spacer does not require 93 octane fuel and wrapping an air tube with gold foil does nothing for the type of heat rejection your looking for under the hood of your car. Now that I have replied I will resume watching Tom&Jerry tho I could probably get few laffs watching the rest of this video.
Vic already has a CAI, pulls it's air from the outside of the engine compartment in front of the radiator. As far as the spacer, you probably get more removing the dumb comb thing then the spacer gives.
The early Vics, Marquis, and Lincolns had a "snorkle" (silencer) on the front of the air box, where it drew SOME air from ahead of the radiator support, but not all. Later models have a rubber sleeve that attaches to the air box and extends forward to get ALL it's air from forward of the engine compartment. Early models should remove the "snorkle", and attach one of those rubber sleeves to the air box to provide cooler air through the "stock" system, thus saving a ton of cash and maintaining the "factory stock" appearance. As for that "dumb cone thing" -- I don't understand the engineering behind it, and it makes NO SENSE to me, as it appears to choke off a shit-ton of air to the engine at high rpms. If anybody KNOWS exactly what it does and/or how it works, please tell us. We gots to KNOW !!
@@SlikLizrd I've read your concern about the goofy looking comb thing between the plenum and throttle body, and after giving it a good cleaning and examining it, best I can figure is that it's supposed to redistribute the air coming in and prevent birds and small children from being sucked into the intake. I have no idea...but it has a gasket, so it stays for now.
The actual cold air intake can pull more air then the stock air intake even if you got the K&N performance square filter for the stock air intake the cone version cold air intake will still pull more air
Another way to get quick easy horsepower out of your Crown Vic is to put a zip tie or 3 or 5 on the back side of your gas pedal in order to take the slak out of the cable because 90% of them are stretched out a good way to check this out and see if you need to take up some slack is to take that intake tube off have somebody sit in the car and put the gas pedal to the floor look and see if the butterfly inside the throttle body is opening all the way! Many of them do not because they're trying to restrict airflow and to keep you from giving it Full Throttle I have seen many of these cables not even stretch to put adjusted and someone in the gas pedal is put to the floor the butterfly in the throttle body does not open up all the way. I do this with all cars that have a cable still operating the throttle! You gain a lot more horsepower when you can actually give your vehicle Full Throttle!!! Many times that throttle body will only open about three-quarters of the way when your throttle pedal is floored from inside the car! Trying to adjust at the throttle body rarely will work because the cable is so far stretched and they do not give you enough adjustment at the throttle body! Basically if it's got a throttle cable take the air intake tube off of the throttle body have somebody sit in the car and put your gas pedal to the floor look inside the throttle body and check and see if the butterfly has opened up all the way inside of the intake! If it doesn't climb under the dash go to the cable at the top of the throttle pedal and then put zip tie after zip tie onto the throttle cable between the cable and the pedal until when the accelerator is depressed all the way the throttle body opens up all the way! You'll be surprised just how many cars don't give the car full throttle when floored in the car. Trust me you gain a lot of horsepower when you can use more than 60% of your throttle! If you drive a vehicle open up the Heavens throttle cable check this out I can almost guarantee you your throttle body no matter what vehicle it is on isn't opening all the way! Gaining 30% more throttle for the price of a couple of zip ties now that's a horsepower gain anybody can get behind and every car just about with a throttle cable at this point is more than likely stretched or was previously adjusted so you could not give your car Full Throttle. More than likely if you're driving a car that still has a throttle cable it's at least 10 years old and that cable is stretched! A few zip ties could gain you so much power check it out!!
95 Mercury Grand Marquis I had it for 11 years second motor fourth transmission I just can't get rid of it. shot out to the Grand Marquis and crown Vic rider's it's all about the 4.6 engine
The 95 MERC is now at 167,000 miles -- original engine and transmission. Dual exhaust = Walker H-Pipe, MagnaFlow 2" Glasspax, Walker tailpipes. Bosch #9605 Double-Iridium Plugs; Bosch #09725 Mag-Core Ignition Wires; K&N Air Filter with air box Snorkle removed.
These mods I’d definitely do but I’d be really worried about burning out the automatic trans quickly, but you could just 5 speed swap with a sequential shifter.
if you have a 06 to 08. a trans tune will help just fine. 09 to 11. shift kit will do wonders. 05 and older, I'd only start doing shift kits and Trans tunes once you need to replace it.
YEP. All that extra weight on the front suspension contributes to more understeer, and changes the car's handling considerably under adverse conditions. Extra weight on the nose increases stopping distance, too. Yes, some folks think that the bumper guard thingy is "cool", and/or "bad-ass", but it has NO practical use on a street-driven, civilian vehicle.
One other trick to boost a lil horsepower and to make the air intake colder is take a small cutout of aluminum screen like you would find on a screen door and install it on the hole where air comes inside the air intake box and over the hole where the air passes through the air filter and goes into the engine. You'll immediately notice the boost in power once you do this, I've done it on a 1995 honda civic i had and man that thing cooked
Needs to make a video about gas mileage improvement I don’t have a crown Vic. Even a vehicle at all but I want a crown Vic and I want to see if I could improve it’s gas mileage if I get one. I’m 18 and I’m looking for a job
Don’t floor it everywhere and keep your filters clean and your tires full..there’s not much that can be done in the ways of mpg improvement..keep in mind these cars were never really made for economical use
just grab the K&N filter for the stock air box it flows plenty , the spacer is a waste of money and if your exhaust and cats are in good shape it also flows fine, the C V was engineered to perform from the factory
CVPI's are engineered to perform. Civilian Vics were engineered for grandma to get groceries. And yes, that's all one needs to do is get the K&N panel filter for the air box as the stock air box for a CVPI is from the Marauder and supports a 306 horsepower engine. I have to laugh at these people who put those cone air filters on there thinking they are doing something for performance. All they are doing is taking a stock system that is already a cold air intake ( It gets air from behind the driver side headlight in front of the radiator.) and "modifying" it to suck up hot engine bay air. Not to mention, they may end up with idle problems due to the fan wash from the cooling fans coming on. That's why all the aftermarket cone intake kits come with a shield that goes around the filter.
I've been thinking about a pro charger myself, but I'm having a hard time trying to explain to my wife why I need a part that costs more than twice as much as the car when it runs fine. 🤪
The wrapping your intake piping in heat shield to "keep the cold air cold" is a myth. Debunked most recently by the engine masters show. The air is moving so fast it makes 0 difference.
Mr Random Reviews Maybe but as the owner of a daily driven 700whp Crown Vic, and a 20,000mi Marauder I'm still laughing loudest. Enjoyed the content.😅👍
Man O War I knew it when I watched him cut up his air box which was the same put in the marauder and supports a 300HP engine. He's going to make it better on a 250/265 HP engine by sticking a cone filter on it and suck up hot engine bay air 😆
I like how he stated that all these "tricks" would amount to 30 or so horsepower. I guess those guys wasting their money on heads and camshafts to get that much gain are doing it wrong lmao! In all honesty, anyone that knows anything would tell people that there really is no free way to gain that much power. The only way to do it is with a custom tune ( Which is worth an easy 20 to 30 HP anyway.) and parts like what I mentioned in the beginning. Changing the bound to be worn timing chains and guides so your cam timing is correct will at least get you back to 250 HP where you started. Used Vics are not at that level. The only thing wrapping your zip tube in gold foil will get you is laughed at. But to each his own lol!
For the intake, I'm sure you could make a shroud around the filter to prevent the engine breathing hot air from the engine bay. Air is poor at heat transfer to solid surfaces, heat transfer to the intake pipe will be minimal, but a shrouded filter will make a difference will stop hot air being sucked into the engine. I wonder if there are intake kits that relocate the filter down away from the engine bay heat? I wonder if there are any standalone ECUS that could be used from a Mustang application. It is the same engine and trans after all, that will definitely make a difference, you can even have multiple maps for different octane ratings of fuel and for use with E85 :D
That Throttle Body Spacer doesn't do a damned thing for a Grand Marquis, either. K&N CAI isn't worth the money -- it only helps a little at wide-open-throttle, normal driving does NADA !! Bumper Tuck is no bonus below 60 mph. Removing catalytic conveters is illegal, and STUPID -- they're making 700 HP , street-legal cars that sell all over the country, and they have CATS IN PLACE !! Some fools believe that more noise equals more power -- that's why they call them fools.
Great vid but 2 points. 1. A dyno sheet would be great. 2. Congrats, your vic has the projected hp as a stock marauder (260 in a vic) vs 302 in marauder
So only the police interceptor was rated at 250 , grand marquis and town were rated at Around 224 , I can assume the biggest difference Would be the factory tune .
Stock Mark viii motor don't make no 300hp stock lol. Them b heads make torque-less high revving engines which are less than ideal for moving 4000lbs of car. Best hp mod is nitrous otherwise just put gears onand drive the damn car
2 1/4 - inch exhaust pipes and mufflers are TOO BIG for the 4.6 Liter engine. You WILL lose low-and-midrange torque (where you need it most). TWO (2) inches is maximum -- and allows for proper exhaust EXTRACTION.
Using full synthetic (not blended) engine oil, factory-recommended oil-change intervals, and the factory-recommended oil viscosity, your 4.6 -liter should easily make the 200,000-mile mark -- many owners have gone MUCH farther.
Your '97 Marquis is one of the early, low-powered engines (190 hp Single exhaust; 210 hp with Dual exhaust). Weak spot was ignition wires -- change to BOSCH # 09725 Mag-Core Ignition Wires and BOSCH #9605 Double-Iridium Spark Plugs @ .054. To avoid MAF issues, use a WIX flat air filter in the stock air box and change it YEARLY. Install a Dual Exhaust, with Walker H-Pipe, Magna-Flow Glasspax, Walker tailpipes. DO NOT remove the catalytic converters, the "benefits" are minimal -- while you make more noise and pollute everybody's air.
Thats gravel my point no disrespect is how to make it faster i have a question do you know or a site that has headers that fit a grand Marquis on a budget
If you're on a budget, forget putting headers on a Grand Marquis -- such a system will cost at least 1000 dollars, front-to-back. AND, you won't get much for your money, since the entire intake system would need to be upgraded, with a new cam and throttle body. For tips on modifying a Grand Marquis, go to "Mercury Forums" and type in "1995 Mercury Grand Marquis Restoration".
Go down to the 7-11 and get a bag of ice cubes -- put a pound of ice in the air box, under the K&N filter element, before each run. WAY better performance than a CAI. Must use K&N filter -- ONLY filter that works when it is WET !!
Just to let you guys know, there are two really big issues regarding any P71 air box or CAI mods: 1. For those drive by cable (Year1996-2004) that won't throw a code for this mod , drive by cable years all have oil filler cap neck on the driver side valve cover (except for 2003 and some 2004), making the stock P71 air tube and some aftermarket intake air tube impossible to fit, unless you want to change both valve cover (96-02) to 2003-2009 valve covers. But then the fuel line on 1996-2002 would conflict the passenger side oil filler cap neck on 03-09 valve covers. 2. For those drive by cable (Year1996-2004), there is an 2 wire connected Intake Air Temperature sensor embeded in the air box and a 4 wire connected 70mm MAF sensor. The P71 aire box and some KAI have a different size MAF sensor port for 6 wire connected MAF, which means you need to solder together the 2 wires IAT and 4 wires MAF to fit the 6 wires connected MAF. The process is a lot of trouble. Be aware! I realized these two issues after doing tons of KAI and P71 air box swap on panther cars. With this being said, only 2003-2004 panthers can have this mod as direct bolt ons. For other years, you either need a tune to avoid vehicle running lean, or you need to find a way rewiring the MAF or relocate oil filler cap neck with different valve covers and fuel lines.
First things first guys before You Modify anything change the intake manifold and get either a new stock or something OEM or a upgraded performance one. It will save you lots of BS changing spark plugs, and ignition coils. Plus running with missfire's. They will start leaking coolant around bottom of thermostat housing. Eventually coolant will run on valve covers and find it's way down the rubber boots causing bunch of problems
You only lose back pressure if you cut it at the h pipe and lose the bend. Ik from experience lol. Straight piping it normally- cut and replace - works fine
TB spacer like a mini supercharger ... LOL And how about removing all 4 of the cats ? If you're in a non emission testing state why only remove the last 2 ? LOL
You can remove the last 2 because the o2 sensor is behind the front 2. Therefore removing back 2v don't throw codes or require any extra work just remove them and you free some air without consequences
Cool vids. Been looking for ways to pass people slowing down cause a cop cars behind them without going into street mod levels. About how many horses can be added before needing to worry about over stressing the drive train?
i did a 4:56 gears and nos ,air intake and filter and cat mode.man the car is completely different.more fun even with out using nos. stop light to stop light sprint is amazing.
us a 75 shot.will give you around 90 to 100hp.the kit hp ratings are on low from factory. .zex or nos wet kit.don't do dry kit.or you pay big.i found out the hard way.fatten the fuel a little
Serious question: Is the car been run on a dyno before and after to prove that this gives you horsepower? Or do you guys only trust what the supplier of the parts says?
Yes, bigger is not always better -- ESPECIALLY when selecting Exhaust Pipe Diameter. Too small a diameter causes restrictions in exhaust flow. Too large a diameter causes a loss of low and mid-range torque -- and increased fuel consumption due to lack of exhaust scavenging. Factory dual exhausts on Vics, Marquis, and Town Cars are 1 and 7/8ths inches in diameter -- which yeilds 20 hp over the single exhaust. The famous 95 MERC employs a Walker H-Pipe; 2-inch MagnaFlow Glasspax; and Walker 2 " Tailpipes. Yields 22-24 hp over stock, checked with G-Tech Pro.
First zero dollar mod. Take the throttle body off and hog out the "comb" which is part of the factory spacer, you will see exactly what I mean when the T/B comes off. While you have it off replace it with one from a 3V 5.4, it's 75mm. I have done that to my 06 along with a tune, Comp Cams XE262AH cams, 3.90 gears, and the J Mod to the trans. I have to say though one of the biggest improvements came with the installation of adjustable cam gears to degree in the cams. Stock they were off 6 degrees bank to bank, and when the new cams were installed and degreed the engine really woke up. Head work is next, may just get a junkyard pair and mess around myself with them, Trick Flows would be nice but I don't have that kind of scratch.
A throttle body spacer is like a "mini supercharger"? No... it is not. The rest of it works, but you should mention the downsides of nitrous. Bottles do not last long, needing to be replaced every few uses depending on the length of shot and size of hit. Make sure you have a local refill station so you don't go without. Also, while cheap initially the cost of refills adds up, eating up money that could be put into long term mods that are always "on".
What about e85 on the flex fuel models. I'm looking to get a crown vic police interceptor what years should I look for and flex fuel models are they worth getting
So I did a swap for the underdrive pulleys and I’m noticing the belt looks like it’s touching and it’s a newish belt so I’m wondering will I need a new belt ?
A TB spacer can add a touch of power but mostly at low rpm and skip a goofy short ram intake and keep ya stock airbox and get a high flow panel filter or just replace ya paper filter with a new one and make a bigger better air feed tube for the air box that can get into cleaner cooler air.. remember cool air more oxygen more power.. hot air lower oxygen less power also a TB plenum can add some HP also for cheap money. Dont bother with headers too much of a pain to install and the headers are mega expensive for a vic! Keep ya stock manifolds and ceramic coat them to reduce under hood heat and install some high flow cats and dont go catless you hate the way it sounds and youll get too much attention from the road pirates. Also install an H or X pipe after the cats youll get some good HP from that and dont use flowmasters.. Go with a more straitthru design like a magnaflow or AP xcelerator because when cruising they are very mello with no drone like you get from installing a flow style muffler and when ya on it hard its meaty sounding so best of both worlds. I do like the intake tube wrap to deflect heat so yea good idea.
Aside from gears, headers and good tune, there are only two routes with the mod motors, H/C/I or boost, boost is easier and can be cheaper, these motors love boost, anything below 10psi should be fine and with take you close to 350+ whp area, doesn't sound like much but that's how out dated these 2 valve mod motors are. No discouragement though, out of all my cars my vic is still the daily sleeper and I just can't bring my self to sell it
Dude your videos are the shit . Straight to the point, tons of information. Well organized subjects . Found exactly what I came here for. Without any nonsense . Thanks man . Sub and notification for me.
Removing the rear cats frees up the exhaust to give a proven throttle response..not sure where you are getting your info but it is incorrect..we’ve been removing cats since they were federally mandated always with great success
I know this is comparing apples to oranges, but I had a 78 Chevy 350 Nova that I replaced the cat with a straight pipe with correct mounting flanges. I'd put the cat on, have it inspected, take it off until next inspection. Added 2-3 mpg, and the car felt like it had more power.
@@828enigma6 That '78 Chevy had the old "Pan-type" cats, and they were quite restrictive. The free-breathing cats that have been used by FOMOCO for decades breathe MUCH more freely than the pan-type, as used by GM and early Toyotas. You will NOT get 2-3 mpgs from removing the cats from your Ford-Mercury/Lincoln 4.6.
Hey bro I love the video and I answered yes to all 3 questions but 1 other question I have is does these work for the Lincoln town car? I subscribed to your channel l
Also a cold air intake is actually more harmful to your vehicle unless you also upgrade your fuel intake and your exhaust export. Adding colder air in a massive open amount fights against with the computer is telling the car to do.
TB spacer dosnt really work! And 410 gears are great for low-end tourqe and launches off the line but my gas mileage is still good on long trips around 19/20 mpg @90-110 mph on the highway with my 03 mercury marauder! And I would not call headers a cheap mods, my saintless steel works headers with high flow cat with me doing the install still cost me almost 1800.00 that's half of what I spent to build my Eaton swap supercharger kit.
Yes it an 03 marauder with 4.10 gears, with 31spline axle shafts, also has stainless works long tube header with high flow cats, matco watt links and rear trailing arms with heavy duty swaybar front and rear. And only shy of the blower tension mount and alternator mount for my Eaton swap supercharger I bought 15 months. ago the only real issue with 4.10 gears is at higher speeds my tech gets alittle higher then I would like@ speed 140 or higher screaming at 6200-6500 at 140mph. My marauder was a retired FHP unmarked from south Florida from there aggressive driving task force! So I have no speed limiter, no rev limiter and the fastest I've been in my car was 153mph and she drove smooth as glass.
Eddie Sanchez any super charger kits for 03 grand mar 2V motor? You got the sweet 4V. I’ve had a lot of trouble finding a legit kit for mine. Thanks for the help
Only mod here that actually increases performance (NO2 aside) is cat-back exhaust delete/mod, just cut it out and put in straight pipes out the side. Everything else is a waste of money. Headers do nothing on these engines, they breath fine. Get a factory 3.55 dual-track rear axle if you must, it was an option on the P71.
Your '91 5.0 was stock at 140 HP -- The '92 4.6 was stock at 190 HP, 210 HP with factory Duals. Dozens of mods available for your 5.0 -- not so with the 4.6. JEG'S and/or Summit Racing will have anything you need to make your 5.0 into a rocket -- but remember, a 2-ton car ain't gonna get many trophies !
If you just got a cheap crown vic the best thing to do is do a tune up and make sure the radiator isn't cracked, your coolant and oil are not mixing or leaking, change your spark plugs, coil packs, fuel pump, timing belt, water pump, etc so that it won't shit itself on the road after 100k+ miles of abuse. I imagine it's as easy as a Honda to work on from what I've seen, but if you've worked on Hondas you know how cramped and stupid everything is hopefully America got it right.
Magna Flow 2-inch Glasspax # 18134 are a straight-through design, with NO internaal baffles or louvers. Fits well and sounds strong, but NOT noisy. Fits all Panther cars -- Ford, Merc, & Lincoln.
Throttle Body Spacer ? NO! For tips on modding a Grand Marquis, go to "Mercury Forums", and type in "1995 Grand Marquis Restoration" for tips on performance, economy, and handling modifications of a Grand Marquis, with brands and part numbers.
Back pressure has nothing to do with actual pressure back pressure is an explanation of exhaust flow .. anybody’s ever written a true stroke dirtbike has the large expansion chamber in the exhaust that explains back pressure repair as the hot high temperature flame of the exhaust enters expansion chamber and then cools off wrapping contracts because the suction on the engine side pulling more fuel and air and the engine or in a board stroke causing more of the vacuum or exhausting more waste so that you can get more air in and some might say oh why doesn’t it suck from the tail pipe as well and it does a little bit that’s why you put your hand over a tail pipe it kind of pulls and push the same time it has like a buffeting but because exhaust is going in One DirectionIt pulls more from the engine causing you to have more power but removing how to convert is this not gonna have a negative affect on back pressure removing the exhaust system completely will
As someone who's owned many Vics in his time, I can say that the stock airbox and zip tube do not need to be modified.
04Interc3ptorP71 Bro you should make us a video too , you sound like you know your stuff. I love my vic ☺
I have a video on how to fix a couple codes people sometimes get with their Vics. I've seen several online posts about the problem, but never a fix so I made a video to help with the issue. It's on my channel.
i was thinking about pulling a airbox off a 2004 cvpi ,so your saying my 2005 already has the marauder airbox?
... this is literally like the American version of a Honda ricer screaming autistically that they gained 15hp from a cold air intake.
i hate how true that is :( hahah
From an owner of a crown vic u sir are correct 😂😂
TBH 15hp is a good gain for a small car like a Honda. In a Vic, it's pretty useless.
@Ford Fanatic Not in a 4,000+lb car
The.best car ever made.
Where you buy or how did you
Best price ive ever seen for one in that condition
Similar story here. Got my 02 a couple weeks ago with 161k miles, very clean with minor damage for $850. This is in the middle of me losing my house in a divorce and letting my mazda get repo'd and having to daily my 93 single cab flareside. Which is rather a pain fitting 2 adults and a 5 year old when it's a 5 speed and also as no working air. Definitely needed.
Throttle body spacer doesn't do anything.
myeah i have a hard time seeing that do anything.
I found a throttle body spacer for my car at the junkyard and when I installed it the only noticeable difference was that it was more responsive at bottom end but once you got past a quarter throttle there was no difference.
He said it was like a mini supercharger lol. These do nothing and if they do maybe 1 hp
The 91 octane is what gave him the extra power hahaha
Thats not the only problem with this video. This guy is obviously clueless about automotive tech.
LOL explain to me how adding a TB spacer makes your engine require 93 octane. Once you hear that hit the pause button and go back to watching Tom&Jerry you'll learn more there.
yea stick to watching cartoons you clearly are too dumb to understand how something as simple as a throttle body spacer works LOL
Did this man really say a TB spacer requires you to have 93 octane gas? I guess stickers add 5hp a piece huh?
Its obvious that the guy making these videos is not knowledgable. I hope not too many people listen to his nonsense.
Flashing your PCM with a custom tune that adds more timing generally requires 93 octane. A throttle body spacer never has and never will.
Vic already has a CAI, pulls it's air from the outside of the engine compartment in front of the radiator. As far as the spacer, you probably get more removing the dumb comb thing then the spacer gives.
Every sticker adds 5hp
@@SlikLizrd I did not know that, I have only had later ones (2 05's and an 06). Thanks for the clarification.
I don't see how a TB spacer would add anything
WJ Handy Dad "venturi"
WJ Handy Dad I agree , it doesn't even make pressure .
Lol mini supercharger
He said it "increases the amount of air that goes into your throttle body" even though its placed behind it
That’s because it doesn’t do anything. Biggest sham ever.
These mods I’d definitely do but I’d be really worried about burning out the automatic trans quickly, but you could just 5 speed swap with a sequential shifter.
Man get a manual.
if you have a 06 to 08. a trans tune will help just fine. 09 to 11. shift kit will do wonders. 05 and older, I'd only start doing shift kits and Trans tunes once you need to replace it.
Jmod the transmission
Wanna go faster? Remove the bumper guard
1976 bronx why
Max Dixon obviously weight
Yeah then go on a diet
You forgot the jmod
Throttle body spacer and high octane fuel mini supercharger 🤣 that's some funny shit i reckon you be lucky to see .5 hp pmsl
Should definitely list where we can get these cheap parts
IF YOU HAVE A TRUE P71 DO NOT MESS WITH THE INTAKE SETUP!! IT IS BETTER!
3:49 he left is ID in the shot lol
Needs to make a video about gas mileage improvement I don’t have a crown Vic.
Even a vehicle at all but I want a crown Vic and I want to see if I could improve it’s gas mileage if I get one. I’m 18 and I’m looking for a job
Don’t floor it everywhere and keep your filters clean and your tires full..there’s not much that can be done in the ways of mpg improvement..keep in mind these cars were never really made for economical use
E Riv your telling a 18 year old kid not to floor it LMAO
James Scherbenske I know 🤣😂🤣..I realized how much sense it didn’t make after I commented
She’s gets good mpg on the hwy you’ll be fine I get 20 in the city and have gotten 27 on the hwy
Steel Dragon ya get 23mpg usually that’s relatively good
The crown vics in Saudi Arabia comes with only one cat
I would think those vics have a few "primo" adjustments..... i want to onow all the differences
I think somebody's pulling your leg, dude -- WHERE would a single cat be mounted on the V-8 engine ?
How is headers and nos affordable? Headers a good pair is a grand or more
What does a nitrous kit cost now days? I got mine for about $500 but that was 20 years ago
Depending on how good you want...1200-10k
You can find a nitrous kit pretty cheap used
Sniper kit about 400$
If you think a grand is expensive for car mods just stop now.
The fastest way to tell that someone doesn’t actually know anything about engines or cars is to hear them praise a throttle body spacer... god is dead
But...but.. it's like a "little mini supercharger" for "almost under a hundred bucks". 🤣
just grab the K&N filter for the stock air box it flows plenty , the spacer is a waste of money and if your exhaust and cats are in good shape it also flows fine, the C V was engineered to perform from the factory
You mean the "insulation shield?" not the water from the cooling fan Shield
Yup I didn't wanna mess up my marauder air box so I got the filter is gd and plenty
I work on in service crown vics every day, all this is bull except the nitrous, they'll handle a 75 shot in moderation
I think you'd b better overall going for a TUNE rather than 4:10 gears. Especially after u did all that to let it breath.
I removed my back 2 cats and wow! She’s running much more free.
Side note, use Jeggs deep Tone mufflers. It sounds like a Mustang.
OMG. The list of things not to do that will just drain your wallet. There is just so much wrong with these suggestions, I don't know where to start.
Well why don’t you start somewhere so I can point out why you are wrong
I still have my full flowmaster exhaust & STAINLESS WORKS headers. I know its not cheap but I really wanna supercharge it or at the very least cam it.
I've been thinking about a pro charger myself, but I'm having a hard time trying to explain to my wife why I need a part that costs more than twice as much as the car when it runs fine. 🤪
Love the vids can you please link where you found that exact bike rack?
The wrapping your intake piping in heat shield to "keep the cold air cold" is a myth. Debunked most recently by the engine masters show. The air is moving so fast it makes 0 difference.
Personally, I prefer S&B filters over k&n. I just feel like their quality is better and they perform a lot better on higher horse power applications
3:41 "reflecting heat away from it?? Is there a sun inside the hood?
I shouldn't laugh but these mod suggestions are hilarious.😅
you laugh at my videos and i laugh all the way to the bank...everyone wins😂😂😂👌👌
Man O War where is this 700hp crown Vic you speak of? You haven’t even posted it
For the intake, I'm sure you could make a shroud around the filter to prevent the engine breathing hot air from the engine bay.
I own a Grand Marquis v8, Yes and yeah.
@@SlikLizrd yo I gotta 98 marquis pushing 356 HP (mods from first owner) but do you think I can make more without swapping
But marauders are hard to get... Comparatively...I would love one😭
And cheapest best hp mod..swap in a mark viii or any 32v engine and your over 300hp on a stock setup and the stock ecu can run it with 93oct
Stock Mark viii motor don't make no 300hp stock lol. Them b heads make torque-less high revving engines which are less than ideal for moving 4000lbs of car. Best hp mod is nitrous otherwise just put gears onand drive the damn car
It's really expensive to put a Mark VIII motor in a crown Vic. Lots of things are different and won't fit. Lots of custom fabrication required.
Joshua Morris None of those things are correct
I now have catless 2 1/4 dual exhaust with Flowmaster40's. My car definitely sounds badass now.
Waktosha 73 but still slow AF!!!!!
They will do 120 mph plus, how much faster do you drive ?
2 1/4 - inch exhaust pipes and mufflers are TOO BIG for the 4.6 Liter engine. You WILL lose low-and-midrange torque (where you need it most). TWO (2) inches is maximum -- and allows for proper exhaust EXTRACTION.
@@polskatoja
Not really.
I have a 05 Lincoln Town Car or all those mods work for my car?
is the 4.6 a good motor how many miles can you get out of that motor
Using full synthetic (not blended) engine oil, factory-recommended oil-change intervals, and the factory-recommended oil viscosity, your 4.6 -liter should easily make the 200,000-mile mark -- many owners have gone MUCH farther.
I own a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis LS Does my car fit for a candidate for these modifications?🤔
What's the best place to get cold air intake setup?
Go down to the 7-11 and get a bag of ice cubes -- put a pound of ice in the air box, under the K&N filter element, before each run. WAY better performance than a CAI. Must use K&N filter -- ONLY filter that works when it is WET !!
5:30 plenum as in the full intake plenum that's mounted to the heads, or just the throttle body?
Thank you Philip Thomas. Call dealer and sure enough my son's car had recall . Made appointment for this Wednesday. THANK YOU AGAIN. Safe some $$$$$$.
First things first guys before
You Modify anything change the intake manifold and get either a new stock or something OEM or a upgraded performance one.
It will save you lots of BS changing spark plugs, and ignition coils. Plus running with missfire's. They will start leaking coolant around bottom of thermostat housing. Eventually coolant will run on valve covers and find it's way down the rubber boots causing bunch of problems
Throttle body spacer, gain 5hp, then have to purchase high test gas for the life of the car. WTF!!!
About how many horses can be added before needing to worry about over stressing the drive train?
i did a 4:56 gears and nos ,air intake and filter and cat mode.man the car is completely different.more fun even with out using nos. stop light to stop light sprint is amazing.
kamran etemad u have a p71 and with 4:56 is it good off the line ?
How is the nos on the car? I was thinking about getting a 100 shot
yes theonly peso.i use it in city.and you will spin tires of the line. you WILL lose fuel milage big time.but much more bottom end punch.love it.
us a 75 shot.will give you around 90 to 100hp.the kit hp ratings are on low from factory. .zex or nos wet kit.don't do dry kit.or you pay big.i found out the hard way.fatten the fuel a little
kamran etemad your math doesn’t even make sense..explain how a 75hp shot will get you 90-100hp ..
Serious question: Is the car been run on a dyno before and after to prove that this gives you horsepower? Or do you guys only trust what the supplier of the parts says?
Stay away from the k&n air intake kit if you have an electronically controlled throttle body. I think it's 06's Victoria and up like my 08.
YEP. Use a WIX air filter, and change it every year. UNLESS you run in a rainy climate -- The K&N is the ONLY air filter that works when it's WET !!
I just got my 2000 CV back on the road TODAY. it feels like a cloud on any road, cloud, not turbulrnce
Are these mods applicable for Lincoln Town Car as well?
I wouldn't recommend using NOS on a plastic cheap manifold all these have!!
Do these mods also apply to the grand marquis as well
YES. Go here for a list of parts and ideas: www.mercuryforum.com/forum/new-member-area-8/95-grand-marquis-restoration-8656/#post20263
Sometimes going with bigger pipes aren't always the best
This is awesome! The only thing missing now is a crown Victoria
Can all this be translated to a grand marquis?
YES. But most of these mods are NOT a good idea. These are NOT race-cars, and you'll go broke before you can get any real speed out of a 2-ton car.
There is no factory spacer and there is no “comb” what exactly are you referring to?..what year panther do you have?
It's the gasket, about a 1/4" thick with fingers that stick up from the bottom, called a "comb"
What year panther do you have?
06
Yea that’s part of the electronic throttle body that started in 05..earlier panthers did not have a comb
Also add under drive pulleys and run E85 fuel
A throttle body spacer is like a "mini supercharger"? No... it is not.
The rest of it works, but you should mention the downsides of nitrous. Bottles do not last long, needing to be replaced every few uses depending on the length of shot and size of hit. Make sure you have a local refill station so you don't go without. Also, while cheap initially the cost of refills adds up, eating up money that could be put into long term mods that are always "on".
What about e85 on the flex fuel models. I'm looking to get a crown vic police interceptor what years should I look for and flex fuel models are they worth getting
2008
So I did a swap for the underdrive pulleys and I’m noticing the belt looks like it’s touching and it’s a newish belt so I’m wondering will I need a new belt ?
Removing the rear cats . why not remove all 4 , would that be better. ?
I do like the intake tube wrap to deflect heat so yea good idea.
throttle body spacers make it unable for the cruise control cord to attach the the throttle mount
The minute he said throttle body spacer I knew he didn't know wtf he was talking about
Lmao.👌
Aside from gears, headers and good tune, there are only two routes with the mod motors, H/C/I or boost, boost is easier and can be cheaper, these motors love boost, anything below 10psi should be fine and with take you close to 350+ whp area, doesn't sound like much but that's how out dated these 2 valve mod motors are. No discouragement though, out of all my cars my vic is still the daily sleeper and I just can't bring my self to sell it
The 2V modulars also like timing. With 92 octane, they can't get enough.
04Interc3ptorP71 agreed, i have a 95 octane tune and works very well, i also use water/meth injection to combat detonation so far so good
Dude your videos are the shit . Straight to the point, tons of information. Well organized subjects . Found exactly what I came here for. Without any nonsense . Thanks man . Sub and notification for me.
Hey another cheap and easy upgrade is fuel injectors Bosch sells a fat 26 lb fuel I injectors
I wanna know how to make the cruise control work. All the fuses are good no broken wires anywhere.
Could these mods fit on the Lincoln town car?
will these mods work on a mercury grand marquis
Hey I got a 2005 Crown Victoria with some corroded spark plugs how do I remove this corrosion off the spark plug it's real have build up
Just buy new spark plugd. If
You can't afford $4-5 bucks for a spark plug. Use a hard brush and clean the corrosion off
Best Spark Plug for the 2005 4.6 Liter engine = BOSCH #9606 Double Iridium.
Gap @ .054 -- Use NO anti-sieze, tighten to 130 Inch-Pounds.
Removing the rear cats adds nothing, it only improves sound. Proven, unless boosted
I subscribed to your channel l
it sure will man 100%
Also a cold air intake is actually more harmful to your vehicle unless you also upgrade your fuel intake and your exhaust export. Adding colder air in a massive open amount fights against with the computer is telling the car to do.
He thought doing shitty doughnuts in gravel was cool
I already straight piped mines,is it too lat to remove the CATS?
TB spacer dosnt really work! And 410 gears are great for low-end tourqe and launches off the line but my gas mileage is still good on long trips around 19/20 mpg @90-110 mph on the highway with my 03 mercury marauder! And I would not call headers a cheap mods, my saintless steel works headers with high flow cat with me doing the install still cost me almost 1800.00 that's half of what I spent to build my Eaton swap supercharger kit.
Eddie Sanchez check mines out bro th-cam.com/video/qeab7pM7syU/w-d-xo.html
You have a Marauder and 4.10 gearing? o:
ADTR has a site with mods for the vics and they have a supercharger
Only mod here that actually increases performance (NO2 aside) is cat-back exhaust delete/mod, just cut it out and put in straight pipes out the side.
Everything else is a waste of money. Headers do nothing on these engines, they breath fine.
Get a factory 3.55 dual-track rear axle if you must, it was an option on the P71.
Do you need to replace the MAF sensor when bolting on the BBK throttle body?
Just save your money and buy a mercury marauder engine for $1500 bones. That alone is 300 mustang horsepower if you catch my drift.
Yh but they're hard to find
@@anthonywaters424 the car itself yes, the engine is a 5.0 from a mustang
@@zamorakbrews7228 then just coyote swap it
the j mod is cool. i did that on a 98 mustang gt. made it alot more fun!
I have a 91.. how can I make that one faster? It has the 5.0 engine
Thanks for this video mr random 😎
I'm about to go pick up a 2004 crown Vic for 3 racks and it only has 55k miles on it. Can't wait!!!
Getting rid of all the cats. Going 40 series flow masters. Don't have to smog where I'm at.
if you have an 06 or newer crown vic the stock air filter is best.
Agreed but a k&n panel filter is always a good idea
I have a 2000 and a 05 both P71. I love this video
What kind of performance upgrades can I use for a quieter exhaust and not so much as the rumble racing sound
Magna Flow 2-inch Glasspax # 18134 are a straight-through design, with NO internaal baffles or louvers. Fits well and sounds strong, but NOT noisy.
Fits all Panther cars -- Ford, Merc, & Lincoln.
Does the stock mustang intake plenum say BBK on it or is the one with the Mustang symbol on it the same thing?
im getting an 06 crown vic lx sport sedan. wrecked the 2000 mercury grand marquis ls and time for a new car with a v8 and rwd for some fun
Can these mods work for a grand Marquis??
Throttle Body Spacer ? NO! For tips on modding a Grand Marquis, go to "Mercury Forums", and type in "1995 Grand Marquis Restoration" for tips on performance, economy, and handling modifications of a Grand Marquis, with brands and part numbers.
Arent kooks headers 5k? I thought this was affordable mods. Maybe 6 uears ago they were affordable?
Bad ass video bro !
I did the 78 mm BBK throttle body a 80 mm maf the k&n air filter cut a hole in the air box and she really woke up
Back pressure has nothing to do with actual pressure back pressure is an explanation of exhaust flow .. anybody’s ever written a true stroke dirtbike has the large expansion chamber in the exhaust that explains back pressure repair as the hot high temperature flame of the exhaust enters expansion chamber and then cools off wrapping contracts because the suction on the engine side pulling more fuel and air and the engine or in a board stroke causing more of the vacuum or exhausting more waste so that you can get more air in and some might say oh why doesn’t it suck from the tail pipe as well and it does a little bit that’s why you put your hand over a tail pipe it kind of pulls and push the same time it has like a buffeting but because exhaust is going in One DirectionIt pulls more from the engine causing you to have more power but removing how to convert is this not gonna have a negative affect on back pressure removing the exhaust system completely will
