I bought my 99 CV LX 20 years ago this June with 50,000 miles. I am right at 370,000 right now, original motor, transmission, starter, water pump, etc. About time for brakes for only the 2nd time. Changed the intake manifold, fan and radiator, added dual exhaust, fuel pump twice, and new blower motor. Everything else is pretty much original. Most reliable car I have ever had.
@@nov2263 well I like the s60 for some odd reason they seem to hold up a taste... Most cars now can last its just theowners and what day the car was built... Monday built cars are trash ( drunk hang over ) and friday cars are trash ( ready to go home ) lmao
I have a 2009 P71 with 210,000 miles on the clock. I bought it 2 years ago for $2,300 with 174,000 miles. I have had to do nothing but change fluids. One of the nicest cars I’ve owned in my 52 years of driving. I’ve owned more cars than I can remember and I think I like this one best.

Love these beasts. I have three of them. A 2009 with 150k miles that my son damaged. A 2005 with 200k miles. And my favorite, a 1998 daily driver with 92k miles.
Thanks for posting this ! I've had my 02 LX since 2006. Always gotten 23 mpg, will cruise at 100 mph all day long. Starting to show it's age though, just replaced the intake manifold, now gotta trouble shoot everything else. Yes... busted lower ball joint. I haven't had any spark plug troubles. Drag link steering still solid as a rock and has never had to be adjusted, I've only had to replace the tires twice for age not wear.
7:21 Spark plugs are blown out of the heads because many mechanics don't seem to understand that you CANNOT remove a steel bolt from aluminum while the metal is hot. When you do, you take out all of the threads with the bolt. I know from more than one instance of experience because I didn't listen the first time I was told.
very true but also i seen on these cars 4 treads on spark plug holes then add in what you said ( take aluminum when pulling out ) do this 3 times its spitting out... now on the 4v i have seen oil leak just slowly backed out spark plugs over time
I just search for the info ( many people fell ) the info is useless. Now i can final apply this method on video ( many many years later ).. thank you for this comment William!

100% spot on with the '99 running hard. I had one from Connecticut, was a fire chief's car. Before the rear end died, I used to launch and both tires would smoke at will. Would cruise at 100mph just as easily as 50mph.
lmao these 99 where special and they where lighter than the 03-up cars so its was a little better.. they just needed a better rear and some suspension work.... A solid rear would help also and some rust prevetion to.... Thank you for this comment bro!
I have a 2003 Lincoln Town Car. That is the best damned car I have ever owned. With a 90 mile round trip commute, comfort was important. As a daily, reliability was important. No question about it. I won the commuter lottery. EDIT: the front wheels won't flop out if ya take the car to a shop once a year and ask them to check it out. I asked the mechanic to check the front end when I had him change the transmission filter & fluid. It was already up in the air, so why not? I wound up replacing ball joints & control arms with parts that have grease fittings. I'll never have to replace them again.

Agree with your assessment on 2004 as being one of the best years. Also, 2008 is a personal favorite. 08 used the older interior so parts from 2003 are compatible. I swapped in a complete 2003 MGM leather interior to my 08 CVPI and it is perfect.
That seems cool with the interior swap! I am doing the opposite on mine.. Turning my beat up Marquis into a Crown Vic then into a 5 speed Cobra Roush type deal... I just did the cluster here th-cam.com/video/V8W9dUq-ruA/w-d-xo.html trying to this all as cheap as possible.

Great video! I just bought a 1997 Crown Victoria LX, the car is mint. Runs great, just did about 4000 mile trip with it last week. Always garage kept, undercoated, no rot in the frame. Mine's a 1999. Almost 122K miles. Done a lot of maintenance to it but it's all original otherwise. Nearly new condition inside and out, underside looks like brand new!
One of the ways Ford worked on the development of the fleet vehicle program was sending a handful of specially prepared Lincoln's to the Kansas City Police department for testing. They were all supposed to get set back to Ford after the study and be destroyed but I know of a couple that slipped through the cracks and ended up as budget taxi's. I discovered this the hard way when I was running the maintenance shop for a cab company and went to replace a transmission in one of these Lincoln's. Needless to say I took it out of service and kept it for myself for many months.
Basically thicker sway bars, heavy duty transmission cooler and no air ride. An ID tag on the door piller was stamped property of the Ford Motor Company. The cars were featured in a commercial for Mobil One oil and had Mobil One Synthetic oil only in 3 places under the hood, one next to the Property of Ford tag and one on the dash that someone had tried removing. I tried my best to buy it from my work but my boss saw I wanted it way too bad so he figured it was worth as much as a damn new 2000 Lincoln... I told him what he could do with the Lincoln, his garage, the tow truck of his that I also drove, packed my tools and loaded up my two cars I was building and quit and never saw the Lincoln again. Did have a friend try to buy it but, the jerk wouldn't come off of it. From what I've heard it ended up wrecked and scrapped 🙁
I love the old aero coupes, but the Panthers seem to be easier to work on...except for that fuel rail guard on the firewall. I'm doing some rust proofing on mine today before the shitty northern weather hits. One of the great things about em, is you can change the seats if you're lucky enough to find a grand marquis or Lincoln donor.
@@bstfordchannel923 I think maybe we didn't buy enough new ones when Ford was still making em. Damn solid cars... but we remember when gas was hovering around $4 a gallon. That part sucked!🤣
I have got a 2004 Ford Crown vic here in Norway . I really love it. The only issue I have had, is the headlight automatic in the black boks. The 4 mini card relays on the control board had to be changed. The headlights did suddenly cut out in dark. I did solder 4 new Omron relays. No all works fine. The frame on this is very rigid. But I had repainted with hammerite on some surface rust. They has salted ice roads here in Norway in winter. Has replaced Rusty rotors and brake parts. I use only Kendall motor and transmission oil for smooth ride.

I had an old school 1989 Ford LTD Crown Victoria with the “5.0L”. Black exterior and red interior with no dents, went 195k miles with no problems until the trans went out.
I have had 6 of the crown Victoria police car, 98 through 05, I like the 01 better, drives different than my 98 does but still love my 98 and it has 116,000 miles
Also, in 2005 these cars adopted electronic throttle, or throttle-by-wire. So the throttle body was different and so was the transmission. The pre-05 cars have the 4R70W transmission and the '05-up cars have the 4R70E. Although not super widespread, there were issues in the first few years, I think about '05-07 or so, of a bad signal being sent and opening up the throttle fully even without a foot anywhere near the accelerator. I actually experienced this myself in a 2006 Grand Marquis sitting at a red light and nearly rear-ended the guy in front of me. Thankfully I quickly threw it into neutral and cut the engine off. Again, I do not think this was a super common issue, but there are several hundred complaints about this same thing, so I certainly wasn't the only one. Not sure what they did, if anything, to resolve it, but personally I am staying away from the 2005-11s. I have a 1997 Grand Marquis now with 256k miles and it's my daily. Great, reliable car.
I had a Canadian 2011 P 71 the was a Sargent's car so it was in nice shape but the rear end failed and the odo failed as well but it shifted hard and kept up to my buddy's Marauder pretty well.

Just picked up my first Vic, she's a '99 Police Interceptor with 131k apparently from Vegas that made its way up to Canada here after it was auctioned off, and I LOVE IT! Such a fun car, and definitely has an aggressive feeling tune for being one of the lower horsepower vic's. The trac lock chirps the tires every time I pull out from a stop on just an 1/8th of the throttle! I saved it from rotting away in a buddys parents yard after she spit out a plug and he decided to just leave the poor thing for a year instead of getting it repaired. Its been a wild ride doing all the maintenance and fixing what was neglected on it for years, but it's a solid project so far and back to being a daily driver. Currently doing the suspension and next up a better exhaust! And maybe I'll get rid of the crappy cone filter that came on it if I can manage to find a stock airbox somewhere... Anyway really enjoy your videos dude, cheers!

@@mikk0 hey thats awesome bro. I'm looking into these as they seemed to be pretty affordable, and I remembered my dad had one. Was a late 80s model. The boxed type with that 2 tone paint. Like tan body and dark brown around the backend, top area, by the back glass if that makes sense. Folks were saying they got them for $900 or $1500 here and there, but the cheapest I found in deep south TX was like 5 grand. The hell is up with THAT $ht... Are they super rare now or something? Was thinking a p71 would be very good to have since it's got High performance parts and durable as hell. I'm not looking for pretty, I'm needing function without getting pulled over etc. I can do cosmetic crap way down the road. Folks saying they go 500k miles on original engines etc definitely caught my eye. I recently got cleaned out by my ex a year ago and this year of having NO CAR for the first time in 20 years, definitely opened my eyes to just how much a person needs one despite Uber existing. 😂 I figured these would be easy to work on, even tho I'm not a mechanic. I want that sense of pride of fixing something I've never worked on before. And figured I could build up my mechanical knowledge on the vic if I ever get one. I don't feel very confident messing with motors etc bc I've never really done it. The most I can do is plug in the obd2 scanner, read the code, go get the correct part. Problem is I don't know how to swap it out. Afraid IL break something and turn a $50 jib into a $500 one 😂 Sorry long post. Anyways, is there a Web page or something that u know of that u use to look for these cars ???
As the owner of a 1995 Crown Victoria, I can safely say that I wouldn't have bought one if I had known the valve stems and intake would cause so many damn problems. I swear to God it uses more oil than gas sometimes.
2005 P71, 356k miles. Original engine and trans. I love how my year was a transition year, so some parts are from an 04, some were on 06+. Also the only year with an external radio antenna, for some unknown reason
@@bstfordchannel923 found out from a ford engineer. The 03-04 cvpi had a lot of electrical interference from the engine, so in 05 they mounted it on the quarter panel. For the 2006 model year, they figured out that they just needed to add more grounds to it. Hence why 06+ have like 10, even the suspension is grounded.
@@ItsDaJax All 2004+ P71 have a cold air box that is based on the Marauder design. 2005.5s have plenty of advantages over 2005s in many areas - newest firmware for the DBW system, 31-spline rear axles, revised electrical system, others. I have a 2005.5 that was built in June of 2005; have had this car since early 2014 and it runs like a top. Despite the fact it has almost 300k miles on it now. I also swapped the instrument cluster for a 2006 (which needed a 2006 PCM to run it). Oh, and since it was built so late in the MY (June 28th), many of the factory installed parts on it sport 2006 part numbers.

I've got a 1996 Mercury Marquis. No frame rot, no body rust, and runs and drives just fine. So far, after 25 years and 113,000 miles, its only real issues have been a coolant leak that I'm still trying to find. The car had regular service in its early years, but very little for the past 10 or 12. My only concern at this point is that it's gonna nickel and dime me to death catching all the little things that need replacing or repairing.
the coolant leak maybe the Freeze on plug underneath the manifold i seen them go brother.. I feel you on the Nickel and Dime statement you may have to switch the car out . cause with that on your mind just a little you will not fix the car 1 day
@@bstfordchannel923 - Nah, I'll get it fixed. Just gotta get this covid crap over with so all the local shops open back up, so I can get somebody to put it on a lift and look it over. ( I'm too old to be rolling around on the ground if I don't have to. ) I got the car back at the end of April, so the quarantine was already in place... which kept me from taking the car to be looked over then. If not for that, I'd know what was wrong with it, and either already have it fixed, or have it on the list to be done.
@@shamarthefucintruth - Yeah, I thought of that, but I find no evidence of a leak and the bearings aren't making noise. I've checked everything I can without getting under the car, or removing the intake manifold to check the heater hose underneath it. The next thing I'm going to try is putting a container of K-Seal in it and see what happens. If that helps, it'll at least buy me some time to find where the coolant is escaping without having to disassemble anything major. ( It occurs to me that the freeze plug between the engine and transmission could be the problem, for instance. )
I own a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis and I was told rims from 2003-2011 Grand Marquis’ would work but require spacers to address the axle and offset issue you mentioned
thank you for tyhis Robert . I was trying to cram all the info in a video (kinda hard to do ) so much stuff I missed...Thank you for the support on this subject bro!
I have an '04 Crown Vic Interceptor and to hear him say those are the best ones makes me feel truly blessed since I like to mod EVERYTHING from cellphones to I guess now cars. Hahaha! I definitely enjoy the smooth ride my Interceptor gives me, I do slow takeoffs from stoplights and it always makes me laugh when the kid in the Acura takes off and then I catch up once I hit my 40mph. Thanks for the info. I'll sell ya'll my '04 Interceptor for anyone interested; $3,000 in GREAT condition. 215,000+ miles
I have 04 also... the do say thats one of the best .. These cars are great bro.. It seems you really enjoy the car you have.. i will put your name in the next video for the panther body roll call bro.. thank you for sharing this comment. i really enjoyed it!
I picked up a '02 GM LSE with floor shift and Handling Performance Package(HPP) with 120K miles for 2K. The front bushings and ball joints were original and worn out so I replaced the upper and lower arms with Moog But, I might put the stock lowers back on because it seems the Moogs raised the front almost an inch. It had a nice low stance before. I think the HPP option used different lowers than the other GM's. Coincidently my truck also raised up with new lower Moog arms whereas I thought I might have not set my torsion bars to the original height and now maybe not so. The GM originally had the airbag rear suspension that was removed before I bought it. I do need to replace the rear shocks(not looking forward to that) but, also wondering if it is worth it to put the airbags back in. I've never driven one with the bags so I have nothing to compare ride and handling to. This is my first Panther and I'm loving it so far. Parts are fairly cheap and plentiful and even last a long time.
I have a '95 Crown Victoria that seems to be in good shape hopefully it doesn't have frame rot. The body is in pretty good shape and it only has 89K miles on it.
when we mention these things it does apply to all cars, cause like you car was well taken car of.. very different from a car that changed hands and been driven by MANY different people.
@@bstfordchannel923 It was owned by only 2 people they were brothers actually (from what I remember when I bought it.) I have the full service records from 1996 when the car had about 670 miles to 2012 and then it changed hands and the second brother's wife drove it until 2019 or so. Thanks for the reply boss I think it's going to be a cool car I just bought about $3K in parts to get it all up to shape along with some upgrade sway bars from ADTR.net so I'm super excited to see how it'll be when it's done
@@poopsicle1629 Yeah actually, thanks for asking. I just got new rear sway bar mounts put in and about to get a new exhaust. Only problem is finding a new driver door panel and getting this spot of heavy rot in the rear passenger door sill repaired. I had a 1999 CVLX from 2007 to 2014. Loved that car. Drove it all over the east coast. Had mods for days, BBK 78MM throttle body and plenum, k&n CAI, superchips programmer, 373s with T-Lok, cross drill/ slotted rotors, duck tail, Mach 1 chin, full magnaflow full exhaust. Damn texting and driving impala driver ran into me at a traffic light, total lost 😞.

the 06 is like the 07 08 09 10 and 2011 same thing little slight different stuff, but nothing major..Thank you for this comment.. thank you for the support and the HEAVY heavy support JP. thank you bro!
I have a 05 LX Sport only bought it for 800, only needed a new transmission no rust no body damage and it runs perfect. so in total I only spent 3k on it and its in amazing condition.
I own a 2010 P7B the last two years of the vic are the best they coast more up front but they all have cast iron Romeo blocks and F-150 transmission and there on the F-150 frame mine has the j-mode ( shift kit) it's set up for E-85 these are hard to find they where all city cop cars and are very fast not many made it the cops gave em hell .
My spring mounts were so rotted out on my rear end i had to replace it, frame seems pretty decent no rot but anyway. This is a 2005 LX vic not the cop or the sport so i had something like a 255 ratio rear end ratio on the gears i was able to install a 2013 rear end from the junk yard purely stating "2013 crown vic 373" This has added a nice lil kick to my pickup. Don't get me wrong the harder you push the car the slower it seems to go so don't beat your tranny up! Nice middle of the road peddle push and let the gearing take you there these are comfortable cruising cars not rockets, you throw yourself and your personal belongings in this ride talking 5 thousand pounds + in weight. Now i have the new springs and shock or struts whatever they are idc they look like shocks, the 373 ratio has thrown my speedo off about 10 mph on the low end 60 mph is really 50 and 110 mph i believe is really 90 mph. so that will be my next project on my vic but cheers to all you vic owners they aren't going to make them like this anymore and i mean well built, fully loaded, smooth ride on the cheap!
Sorry for the late reply dude... Well now i read this and YOU are correct .. Some how some vics just go slower when you step on it ( they have a smaller Tq converter vs the Lincolns and The GM which is crazy... I had tha same gear set and it was bad, but in the Lincoln it seem faster than my patrol car ( tq covertor ) I am loving you plans with the Vic heers to you to bro... I have to mention you in the next video!
I have a 2006 Grand Marquis and a 2007 Grand Marquis. I bought the 2006 9 years ago with 87,000 miles on it. It is still running fine with 381,000 miles on it. A few months ago I bought a like new one owner 2007 Grand Marquis with 36,000 miles on it. Yes, thirty six thousand miles. An older couple owned it, and they had a big stack of service receipts. I am a fleet mechanic with 34 years experience, and have worked on Crown Vics that entire time. I went over it with a fine tooth comb. The only thing I could find wrong was it needed new windshield wipers. Both my Grand Marquis are original Arizona cars without a speck of rust.
This is a amazing story1 I feel the kep sometimes is having the same driver ( with the same driving style ) vs 2-3 drivers driving the same car... My theory is ( owner ) knows and here things that sound different and will look and replace things as needed vs 9 other that would just drive the car 0 without a care in the world. A simple thing like checking fluids is simple butwith with 3 people driving a car ( this where things will fall short ) great story brother thank you for sharing
I have a 2001 mgm lse. The bottom of the front fender on the driver's side ( below the compressor for the air ride) rusts out a lot on these. I live in the rust belt so everything rusts. I haven't driven a '99 but I can tell you the lse is a marauder without the cobra engine. Rides great handles great. Love it. 1 of only 575 made that year in my color combo

These cars are loved and respected by many guys in the car realm ... Chevy guys down to Dodge guys... Its a sweet comfy semi-boat type ride... The side isnt too big and it isnt small either.. just well balanced car
So would you say a 2009 police interceptor with 117,350 miles for $5999 is a good deal or no ?

I have 98 grand marquis, just picked it up. Fell in love with these cars after getting my nephew one.

I love the old aero coupes, but the Panthers seem to be easier to work on...except for that fuel rail guard on the firewall. I'm doing some rust proofing on mine today before the shitty northern weather hits.
One of the great things about em, is you can change the seats if you're lucky enough to find a grand marquis or Lincoln donor.
that is the beauty of this the flip flop of parts to do affordable upgrades in a snap!

Great information. I used to have an 08 P71. Best runner I had till a bimbo on a cellphone t bone the car. Still ran but was only a 3 door. Replaced it with an 07 with the peeling Grey paint issue. Strange to see a front pax fender mounted antenna. No flex fuel...Sigh. still a strong motor.

Its crazy that the cars are the same , but oddly many of them drive different from year to years..... happy holidays!

Crazy enough she's been an absolute solid daily throughout all of that. These cars are tanks! All that's left is a paint job - Gotta love that peelformance white...
And yeah we call them Pick n' Pulls up here in Canadastan, but there's been pretty much no vic's in yards around here for miles. Managed to get most of what she needed from rockauto on great deals though. Crazy how their shipping usually takes 4 days to get up north here from way down in the states, yet an amazon package takes two weeks to travel one province over up here 😂
@@mikk0 hey thats awesome bro.
I figured these would be easy to work on, even tho I'm not a mechanic. Afraid IL break something and turn a $50 jib into a $500 one 😂
Sorry long post. Anyways, is there a Web page or something that u know of that u use to look for these cars ???

@@bstfordchannel923 found out from a ford engineer. The 03-04 cvpi had a lot of electrical interference from the engine, so in 05 they mounted it on the quarter panel.
( I'm too old to be rolling around on the ground if I don't have to. )
I got the car back at the end of April, so the quarantine was already in place... which kept me from taking the car to be looked over then.
If not for that, I'd know what was wrong with it, and either already have it fixed, or have it on the list to be done.
Or leaky water pump
@@shamarthefucintruth - Yeah, I thought of that, but I find no evidence of a leak and the bearings aren't making noise.
I've checked everything I can without getting under the car, or removing the intake manifold to check the heater hose underneath it.
The next thing I'm going to try is putting a container of K-Seal in it and see what happens.
If that helps, it'll at least buy me some time to find where the coolant is escaping without having to disassemble anything major. ( It occurs to me that the freeze plug between the engine and transmission could be the problem, for instance. )
How long have you had it. Regular service that's you man they don't nickel and dime as much if you spend a few dollars on scheduled maintenance.

Good information. Thank you. My own CVPI is a 2008 and I love it.
Congrates on the new car also
The rims on your 2004 look really good
Thank you just some $250 old rims Oliver... The car is lowered in the rear now...
@@bstfordchannel923 are you fixing up the aero too?
@@oliverw3646 yup doing the Aero and allm the cars at once ( such a bad move ) Oliver but that build will be cleaner than the turbo Crown Vic
