When you think of visiting a museum, just as you would expect to see animals at a zoo, chances are you're expecting to see artifacts, art, and a plethora of dioramas depicting prehistoric times... That's not exactly how things go at the Toledo Zoo's Museum of Science. The building's centerpiece paints a picture of Ohio's past - with mammoths, mastodons, American lions and other creatures that thrived 12,000 years ago. But that's not all! The seemingly never ending supply of rooms invites you to experience a WALK THROUGH POISON DART FROG rainforest, a touch tank full of sturgeons, a MASSIVE Coconut Crab, hundreds of invertebrates, not one but two SNAKES THAT SWIM, and several of those rooms take you face to face with some of the world's deadliest species - Stonefish, Rattlesnakes, and even the Komodo Dragon. I know you'll enjoy this one of a kind tour of this one of a attraction.

I worked at the Toledo Zoo for three and a half years, and I got to see the museum the first day it opened. It was definitely an improvement over what was in there before. The lobby was empty most of the time, the only animals were small amphibians and arthropods, and the second floor had a bunch of offices. This renovation was a definite improvement.

I am so happy people enjoy this building. I'm a a volunteer at this zoo and I get to see all this almost everyday so I am always happy to hear other people enjoy it as much as I do. If enyone has any questions about the zoo I will be happy to answer.

I visited Toledo with my kids this past summer, and this zoo was a big reason why. We weren't disappointed: compared to the Buffalo Zoo, one of the oldest zoos in the world, Toledo's is easily a world-class attraction. Each of its houses are worth hours of exploration, but that Museum of Science blew us away. Much like yourself, we spent nearly four hours wandering through it, with a new wonder around every corner.

I've been going to this zoo since I was a child as it's my local zoo.
I'd love for you to go over their updated aquarium as well, it's truly stunning! Staying nearly the same on the outside but, if I recall correctly, approximately tripling the gallons of water on the inside, it's now truly a great sight. I only wish when I was younger I had had the ability like kids do know to take photos of the old one to compare.

Having a blue banded sea Krait is amazing and a good testament to the skill of the herpetology care team on staff.
Also I must say this who facility branch they have built is downright inspirational.
I would love to see this kind of museum and indoor animal house hybrid facility more
In fact one facility that I’ve been to in the states that has a very similar feel to this was the Virginia living museum. While a admittedly smaller facility it had amazing habitats for their animals and similarly offered both the interactive educational experience of a museum and the first hand inspirational experience that seeing love animals at a zoo or aquarium offers.

I just found your channel and I love it!! You should try to visit Virginia Beach and see their aquarium sometime, they have a great selection of locally found animals. And I believe they're doing renovations on their second building that talks about the wetlands and marshes of the area. Plus the Virginia zoo is nearby in Norfolk, about 30 minutes away.

Cause' if you visit the Oakland Zoo, you should visit the new California Trail attraction, featuring a gondola system, along with some abundance of bison, gray wolves, black bears, grizzly bears, jaguars, cougars, & California Condors, too. Jumping Juravenator!🐺

And the robber crabs are cool..but not always easiest display species..our zoo had them.. problem is they moult underground for long periods of time..so empty enclosure. Do a lot with native reptile conservation too . including venomous..and venomous snakes neglected in UK zoos. Great list here especially death adder. We used interactive displays with themes..hats off to toledo zoo☺️

I am a former volunteer at the Calgary Zoo in Alberta and I can honestly say...I wish I was at the zoo in this video than there. Although it was fun, I was turned down for a job at the zoo 7 times and then resigned when the vaccine mandate came into play. As somebody who works there, don't worry! Theres not a huge risk of guests stepping on the frogs. Theres usually 2 teen volunteers near the area. One in the entrance room, and then one in the exit room. The first one usually gives out some rules about The Tropics. Mainly about just being careful of where you step and being careful as to not touch the plants. This also includes the frogs. And the one in the exit usually checks for any critters who may have wanted to become hitchhikers. But don't worry! The frogs there are safe for the most part!

Shy reptile and amphibian species like that especially amphibians that hide under foliage until rains can be kept fairly well in densely planted setups that have systems to imitate daily rains which encourage the animals to naturally come out and feed.
Many species of frog are the same way their driven to feed and come out and about by the sound and feeling of rain.

Just found out about your channel and am loving the content. Out of curiosity any plans to make your way up to Alaska's Sealife Center in Seward and/or The Alaska Zoo in Anchorage? The former is a dedicated cold-water aquarium/research facility dedicated to arctic aquatic animals, and the later got it's start in 1966 after a radio contest offered a man 3,000 dollars or a baby elephant and he chose the baby elephant (sadly we do not have elephants any more, turns out an Indian animal doesn't do well in a place that can reach -15 degrees in the winters).

Well, as somebody who works there, I can actually awnser this! Theres usually 2 ZooTeens ( teen volunteers ) near the area. One by or in the small entrance room, and then one in the small exit room with a huge mirror in it. As well as an educator sometimes. Theres also rules in place that the entrance teen usually gives out ( such as not touching the plants or animals ), plus theres usually staff within the mueseum or out and about, so stealing frogs from there is VERY unlikely. Also, fun fact! There are actually over 300 Dart Frogs in The Tropics! Thats the estimated number, because they have bred like rabbits in there.

The pheasantry is part of the random assortment of birds. There were no Reindeer on my last 3 visits (2 year span). Nothing lives in that valley by the Amphitheater anymore.

@@ZooTours Thanks for the response, sorry about my misinformation as I have never gone to the Toledo Zoo and am only getting my research from a quick google search, but I'm glad that your covering all the sections and I'm looking forwards to the videos whenever they may come out.

@@ZooTours If your wanting to see some Reindeer, they're in Africa! at the moment, but during Lights Before Christmas, they'll be heading to The Barnyard!

I mean, they have alot of birds. Including some Chickens, Rhinocerous Hornbills, as well as alot of other species of birds. Which, to be honrst, are living dinosaurs. :)
