    Just watched the video and really like how you did the testing. I just recently got a B14R and have 5 bricks of Norma Tac 22 on order and should be here on 1-10-23, can't hardly stand the wait. I put a 6-24-50 Arken on top and I hope my 77 year old eyes are up to the challenge.

    Great content. It would be interesting to run more rounds of the better cheap ammo through to acclimate the barrel(or whatever the term is) to see if it actually gets better, then raise the same question "is it worth paying double for practice ammo."

    That is decent shooting with cheap ammo...we are plinkers, and live on inexpensive bulk...our groups not quiet as good as you're getting, but using 6-7 cent rounds in a $300 rifle does limit accuracy, so we do the best we can...really, the big problem with bulk ammo is the consistency, as hot/cold rounds just go everywhere...but, we put up with it, as affordability does mean lots of trigger time, also known as fun time...

We have had cases of it where it wouldnt group 4 inches @ 100 in a 1913 Supermatch or the bullet wouldnt even exit the barrel..... And then We have had cases of that that shoots absolute screamers..

    I've done a lot of similar testing with my rifle (not in the same game as your rig) and I've gotten similar results with the CCI SV and the Fiocchi, both really solid. I would also recommend Aguila RN SV, surprisingly good. Remington 22LR rimfire, in my experience, regardless of the claimed quality/cost, is some of the worst for accuracy that I've found. I was told (in a 22LR forum) that it's because Remington's rimfire manufacturing equipment is very old and outdated, while companies like Aguila are using modern state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment (courtesy of Eley).

    Almost didn’t watch this when you said you weren’t going to include Norma Tac22. I buy it when they have sales, you can get it for as little as $39 a brick. That is less than any of the ones you tested. I shoot the new CZ 457 VPC MTR, and I get significantly better results with Norma than I do with Eley: Tenex, club, team, force. SK standard plus performs pretty equivalent but is hard to find and cost more than double. If your coming up through the STL area soon I’ll donate a box or two. It is not only the cheapest ammo you can get (when you catch the good sales buying directly on their site with free shipping) but is absolutely some of the best shooting too!

    I ran into a guy on Facebook proclaiming that he shoots one quarter inch groups at one hundred yards with a Smith and Wesson 15/22. I tried to explain to him that some with 3-$5,000 Vudoo rigs don't do that. He said you guys just wasted your money. I know I know. I have offered him my monthly social security check to come show me. I shoot a modified Ruger 10/22. (Can't afford a Vudoo) Using the new Lapua Super long range 22 ammo I shot a one hole 5 shot group at 25 yards yesterday. I am looking forward to stretching this out to 300 yards.

    As for Nomra TAC 22LR... I recently posted comments on another video by Miidwest. I don't wish to repeat myself, but the gist of my comment was that I found (dumb luck) what must be the ideal Norma TAC (TARGET RATED) lot number that my CZ 457 loves, and it makes ALL my SK 22LR ammo (Long Range, High Velocity, etc.) look surprisingly sub-standard.

    I own a Vudoo 360 and shoot cheap ammo 99.9% of the time, Aguila blue/yellow box super extra 40 gr. Lrn. I have close to 10k of that brand down the pipe, it shoots pretty well. I do sort for rim thickness to .0005 for consistency as it is cheap ammo. I have maybe 100 rounds of SK and 50 rounds of Lapua centerX thru it, I like seeing what it can do with the cheap stuff, its pretty impressive. edit - Vudoo 360 with an Ace 20" mtu contour barrel, 30 moa rail, Leica PRS 5-30PRB scope, arc m-10 1.1 height medium 34mm rings, Greyboe Ridgeback stock with Area419 arca rail with an br4 accu-tac bipod, and a TT diamond flat shoe 2stage trigger set close to a lb.

    A lot of people misunderstand Remingtons target designation for that ammunition you were shooting. Target means that it is so inaccurate that it is considered unethical to hunt with and should only be used on targets. Not for competition or good groups mind you, just on targets like cans, paper, etc... This way the designation will sucker people into giving it a try and some junior rifle clubs will order a chit load of the stuff for cheap.

    I went to 4 Walmart locations in January 2022 to find any 22LR ammo I could buy other than Winchester. I bought two boxes of 50 rounds of Federal Champion and recently found that thy provide sub MOA groups most of the time with my Tikka T1X at 50 and 100 yards. I wish the stores had more in stock back then and I had bought them. I doubt any Champion I may buy today will perform as well. The Champion performed better than Federal Auto Match, CCI SV, and Norma Tac-22. Every one of my CCI SV groups had one or two bullets hit far out like the 5th bullet in your 2nd group.

    Only two things i have to say about the test besides "nice job" is
    #1) ran 10 to 15 shells of each through the barrel before actually test it. Ive seen some ammo really change after a few of the same are run through before hand. Cci SV will shoot 1-1.5moa for the first 10 or so after switching to it from SK Rifle match. After a couple groups it will get down to .6-.8 avg. That's outta my rifle tho. Others may be different.
    #2) it would of been nice if you ran them through a Chronograph while testing to see how the #'s match up with the group's

    I would definitely like to find some of that Fiocci standard. All of mine performed the same with all of those you tried & Remington golden bullets & some different types of Aguilla. I get regular.40-.45” groups @ 50 yards with my 1966 Remington 572 Pump, 1947 Remington 550-1, 1982 Marlin Model 60, 1968 Wards Westerfield 87a, CZ 457 Jaguar, Modded Ruger 10/22, & silenced Anschutz 1710 with match bolt group & stainless match barrel. I’ve contemplated a Voodoo and others like it however it’s not worth the $4000+ price I’ve learned. I’m not a competition shooter yet however I have been learning & watching. Many old ones shoot just as good and or if not very close to a hi priced Voodoo I’ve learned. I haven’t even head spaced any ammo to my CZ or Anschutz yet and they both group .35-.38 regularly with CCI Standard & Quite Semi Auto. S&K Rifle match my two best like alot and shoot even better groups with, same for R-50 & ELEY Match however S&K is my favorite and also Lapua Midis X. Nice testing however I personally don’t set the ammo on my rifle as I shoot. It will fall possibly loosening the primers. I handle my .22 ammo gently so It will always shoot well. Less chance of duds. But that’s just me, 😉. Good testing.

      @@midwest_long_range my main rig is a 457 Varmint MTR. Only mod is a yo-dave down to 4oz. Using s sightron 36x42. The thing is a shooter. I do ammo testing for fun and typically shoot 25 Five shot groups and dump the best and worst group. It will shoot aggregate over those 25 groups sub MOA with many many brands. I have settled on RWS Target Rifle as my preferred cost effective round. Will it shoot better groups with more expensive stuff....yeah...but not THAT much better. And it is just for fun anyway so paying 15 or 20 a box for 0.05 or 0.1 inch better vs 8.50 a box means a lot more shooting.
      Keep up the good work.
      Another idea for you: shoot 5 groups at 30 second intervals between shots. let barrel cool. Then shoot 25 shots as fast as you can and then immediately shoot another 5 groups with 3 second intervals between shots.
      Measure results.
      Another idea: shoot 5 groups where you REALLY take your time and focus on everything....and then shoot 5 groups where you just intuitively aim and shoot with no real focus....
      Test the idea that the more you "think/try to improve" possibly the worse you do.
      And lastly: shoot 5 groups where you break contact with the rifle between each shot. Vs NEVER breaking contact other than offhad to change mags...you might be surprised.
      I all all tapped out of crazy ideas...enjoy

And i`m only using a cheap Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56, 419 rail. I`m not knocking the OP, i just can`t justify spending that kind of money against what i have, when my CZ457 will run the table.

      I have several videos showing cz457, tikka t1x, Bergara b14r, Anschutz etc. shooting premium match ammo "not sure I'd put Norma in that category at the moment, but I have heard they are working on good stuff" and I don't have a $6000 rig just for shooting good groups, it's a system to help with many parts of the shooting sport I participate in "it's not a benchrest rig."

      @@midwest_long_range Whatever makes people happy. I think there is a market for everyone. Likes and preferences applications etc. For the regular Joe get a decent 22 bolt, but spend your money in good ammo. I have seen Eley Tenex just to name one ammo shot from a custom built rifle and groups were nothing to brag about. Switch the ammo and rifle become a tack driver. Go figure. Try different good ammo see what your rifle likes and stick with it.

    So is a $4000 dollar gun more accurate than a $2000 gun? We all know that there is no limit to what you can spend on a gun. Increasing $$$$$ over a certain amount only gives bragging rights on spending, not group size.

    • @midwest_long_range
      @midwest_long_range  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This depends on the shooting discipline your interested in. If you focus the money on custom barrels and a quality smith accuracy is going to similar but then you will be limited on the types of stock the budget will allow and for positional shooting there are tons of stock options some very budget friendly others not so much but lots of options. But if you spend your money on the stock and add on’s rather than a barrel, the gun will most likely be less accurate and less consistent than the custom barrel version. I was unwilling to sacrifice what I wanted in my barreled action or my stock and trigger so with that about $4000 is what is commonly spent on rifles by those competitors but similar accuracy can be achieved for less absolutely

    When cycling through brands like this, is there a best practice for number of fouling shots before you start looking at groups?

    • @midwest_long_range
      @midwest_long_range  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes especially if switching between ammos like lapua and eley due the extreme difference in lubricant. Most of these were very similar and when I tested foulers off camera it showed no noticeable difference in this particular selection

    THANK YOU for your interesting video. I'm a bit of an ACCURACY FREAK but don't like spending $10-$15/box of 50. I don't have any SUPER ACCURATE 22lr rifles or pistols but do have a couple of GOOD CONTENDERS on a BUDGET PRICE. I've got 2 BRNOs, 2 somewhat modified 10/22s, 2 single shot Mauser trainers pre-WWII and a Norinco 522 early target rifle that I can't wait to do some SERIOUS TARGET SHOOTING soon. Unfortunately I had a FIRE at my house in my BEDROOM at 3 am and I'm OVERWHELMED with the BS I'm in countered with my insurance company. I was somewhat fortunate that I had a friend who was able to store my BIG BOY TOYS COLLECTION while I'm dealing with the RESTORATION of my house. IT'S been so OUT LANDISH dealing with the insurance company I'm probably going to SELL MY HOUSE, I'm turning 71 in a few days and I'm not PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY and PSYCHOLOGICALLY prepared to DEAL with this BS so I'm going to sell. Trying to secure a place to go after where I'm staying now where the insurance company put me while the house is being fixed. 🤔😱😳😵‍💫😖😡😮‍💨
