Excellent review! Uses 2 rifles, 5 different types of ammo, no preconceived ideas (no sponsors involved), described results and even showed target results with corresponding ammo used. Simply down to earth, good job. Thanks!
I remember when the 550 bulk pack from Walmart in the early 2000s was $8.50, but I had great luck running it through my Savage Stevens model 99, which also happened to be my first firearm ever that I bought from Walmart as well and it was only $89 haha, but this was in New York back long before New York banned all further sales of semi-auto long guns. Now instead of getting 550 rounds for under $10, we are paying over $30 for 350 rounds or less 😵
I know how you feel Bruce. Those were the good ol' days. The Federal 550s were the first bulk packs that worked well in most of my firearms. Back then they were the gold standard of bulk packs.
Throughout the pandemic i discovered aguila. I normally shoot remington golden bullets, but they became unobtainable. I have to say after several thousand of them shot now i am dang impressed. I have went through several bricks in a row with zero malfunctions or duds. It was the most impressive 22 ammo i have ever seen, I wondered what the few people were talking about in reviews about their boxes of aguila 22 being full of duds. Then after a couple years of shooting solely aguila 22, i opened a fresh box of 250. The bullets would almost stick to your fingers they were so heavily coated with wax. I would get 1-2 failures to fire out of every 10 rounds until i got to the very bottom of the box. The last 30 rounds were all duds, soaked with wax to the point im guessing it ruined the powder and primer. Im on my 3rd box of them now in a row that i bought that is like that. I do hope all the others i put on the shelf are from good batches. When they are on they are phenomenal. But from what ive seen they put out some bad batches now and then. Thanks for confirming the accuracy. I have both the 38 gr and the 40’s. Every 22 i have seems to like both. The 40’s out of my lever gun i have the most experience with are tack drivers.
Thanks for watching frederickjeremy! I haven’t gone through enough rounds of Aguila to find bad batches, but they definitely can be waxy. I make sure to clean out my chambers after lots of use to avoid buildup that might affect the semi autos
That box was contaminated with something. I would find out how to get in touch with their sales rep. You might get a replacement carton. Hope you kept the lot number info.
A very comprehensive test of the ammos, you clearly have put a lot of thought and effort into getting these results, well done. What i'm kinda surprised about is that the "Jam-o-Matic" generally returned better groups than the bolt gun. Good work Tex. 👍
I ABSOULTELLY love the AGUILA 22 Super Extra ammo and I have tried almost all the other 22LR ammo (except CCI which can be 3-5 times as expensive). The COPPER plating leaves absolutely NO lead build-up in my 8 shot Smith and Wesson 22LR revolver barrel rifling. EVERY other manufacture's ammo I have tried has left lead inside the barrel that was extremely hard for me to remove. NOT so with this Aguila 22LR ammo. In addition, I have shot thousands of rounds and maybe 1 failure to fire and that is it - one failure. On sale it cost .04 cents a round so I wait for that price and then I buy in bulk. I am 100% converted to this ammo from this manufacturer and will be a life long customer.
@@texmexshoots Thanks T-M, coincidently I cleaned my 22LR Smith & Wesson revolver today after shooting 400 rounds of AGUILA 22 Super Extra ammo and there was ZERO lead build up in my barrel riffling. It use to take me up to an hour to remove the lead that other bullets left by wrapping strands of pure copper around a brass cleaning jag tip. NOW, no lead build up so no copper strands and no scrubbing efforts !
I'm able to get 10 rounds all touching (3/4" group) at 50 yds with the same Aguila ammo you tested from my RAR. Best results so far for that rifle. Next best result was cci mini mags. Great video! Thanks.
Thanks Steve! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. My ammo test videos take more time and effort to produce, but they sure are a lot of fun! Those 10/22 LVT's are real gems. Great bang for your buck but their triggers need a bit of work.
Great job on testing. Real world stuff. Results surprised me I must say. That’s why we need to test different brands in our rifles to find its preferences
Thanks for watching Rich! It really is amazing how different rifles can prefer different types of 22. Plus how different the point of impact can be out of one rifle when shooting different brands.
Good video. Thanks for making and posting! I've noticed, too, that the Aguila has an odd smell. Also, when I fire the Aguila out of my S&W 43C (revolver), I frequently have trouble extracting the casings from the cylinder. Not sure why, but it's happened enough that I no longer use the Aguila in my revolver. On the other hand, no problems with Aguila in my Taurus TX22 (semi-auto).
Thanks for watching Mr. Miller. I figured the smell was the "Eley primer" since it smelled similar to the Eley Target ammo I shoot. However it may the the waxy coating on the casings. That may also be what is causing the difficulty in extraction from the cylinder.
Hey buddy I’m enjoying watching your.22 comparison and yes it does make sense to shoot readily available bulk packs! Here in Virginia I have only been finding Aguila and Federal auto match and just lately cci 40 grain lead nose. Now I do have quite a few thousand rounds of other types I’m just talking about what is around currently. I almost embarrassed to include one box of Winchester in the 40 year anniversary package of 300 because I paid $40 at Walmart, Keep making these videos as a lot of people enjoy watching.22 related videos
Thank you Robert. That is very kind. I have already filmed a couple of other 22lr ammo comparisons, but still need time to edit them. I don't live out in the country so have to take video footage when I escape and then edit it back at home. I would have included one of those new Winchester bulk packs in this video if I had gotten my hands one one, but I didn't see them on the shelves until after. I think the old style boxes look great!
Thanks for watching Captain! After filming this video I started looking into Aguila more. It is a great manufacturer and I've found various loads that many of my 22 pistols and rifles seem to like.
Every Ruger 10 22 i ever used was a bang-jammer but 1. The good one was a bicentennial model and it was great. I own a GP100 and a M77 and love both of them.
My ruger american (same as yours) shoots that winchester really well. Even better now with .002" trigger shims bolt shim installed. Hitting golf balls at 70yrds 3 out of 5. And 5/5 at 50yrds.
Was the first box i got for my 10/22, tried it out and it would not cycle very well. Shot about 150-200 of federal auto match which cycled fine. Retried the Winchester and worked perfectly with pretty good accuracy from 50 yards. Pretty sure the gun just needed a little breaking in before running it
The 550 Federal Value Packs were $8.97 at Walmart, their every day low price. I wish I had stocked up on more of these. This was probably prior to the shortages around 2008 - 2010.
I found that the Aguila worked really well for me also. So good that when it was four cents a round I brought 35,000 rounds 50-50 of standard velocity and high velocity. I'm so glad I did.
Great tests ! Same ammo brands I’ve tested except the Blazer! I used my Ruger 77/22 for all my tests ! I added CCI Stinger and Velocitor and Mini Mags ! Tightest groups were Auto Match and Aguilar with almost one hole groups were the Velocitor and measuring the groups the Mini Mags won with almost 1 hole groups @50 yards ! Yes all .22 firearms are just a little different on what they shoot the best !
The Aguila Super Extra shot the best in my 22`s. With my 1022 i can cover the group with a dime and not see any of the bullet holes. My wifes Ruger American rimfire shoots them really well too. Second best for our 22`s was the Federal AutoMatch. When rimfire isn`t as scarce, we usually shoot CCI Standard & Lapua CenterX & SK Match.
A little late on commenting. this is a video I'd like to do sometime as well because I have so many different bulk packs to choose from. Anyway, the smell of the Aguila is because they are Eley primed or at least they used to be. I have many bulk packs and that was a marketing point as they printed it on the box. Well off to watch the other video with standard velocity ammo. Oh and I pronounce Aguila as Eagle.
I got a bunch of the Aguila thru Sportsman Guide for $15.19, 250 ct but haven't put any down range yet. After your video I and stoked and looking forward to it.
Thanks for watching Paul! I hope they work well for you. Just make sure to clean out your bore after shooting a bunch of them. They seem to have a little wax coating (like Eley) that can build up after lots of shooting.
I know that it is blasphemy to suggest any imperfection of a Ruger 10/22 magazine, but I think all of your "failures" shooting the 10/22 were at the first rounds off of the magazine. Aside from that, great shooting and informative. I had extremely good luck with Federal bulk pack over the years, but the Aguila is my new favorite. Quality product and very nicely packaged, and I can find it on loss leader sales on a regular basis.
My biggest complaint are that they are hard to clean. At least compared to a simple strait magazine. But at least they aren't too expensive so I can always carry a spare.
My grandpa's old Stevens single shot really performs well with the Aguila SV 40gr RNL rounds. Best peformance was CCI SV 40gr RNL. Thank you for sharing this video. Well done.
Thank you Tony! I appreciate the kind words. One of my closest buddies growing up had a Stevens single shot. I remember going rabbit hunting with it on numerous occasions.
I used to shoot .22lr target and silhouettes to go along with my regular pistol Silhouette shooting with my 1983 Ruger MkII Model 678 Target. I bought some Ramline 12 shot magazines that were a heck of a lot better than the 10 rd (8 really) steel lip factory mags. Not one single failure ever with those plastic mags, easy to load all the way down to the last round. I still have them and the pistol. I bought a brick of Remington green and white box 40 gr. round nose lead bullets and took them to the 25 yard police range and used sand bags to sight the pistol in and I shot quarter inch groups at 25 yards. 1/4 inch with that ammo!! Then we later chronographed it at 975 to 1025 fps out of the 6 7/8th" barrel. Anyway after shooting those tight groups I went back to the store I bought the 1st brick at and bought 4 more 500 rd bricks of the same batch. I loaded it into my 10-22 rifle with a 30mm 3x-7x scope and it held less than one inch at 50 yards at over 1200-1250 fps. Any .22lr ammo that only deviates plus or minus 25 fps is match quality and I had 2000 rounds of it at a penny a round. I would have bought more, but that was all they had of that batch. I never found any 22lr ammo that matched it.
Thanks for watching Mountain Fisher! What a great story. It is wonderful when you find that ammo that works so well. Was that the Remington match or target ammo? I seem to remember they had a white and green box, or I may be confusing it with a blue and green box. Anyway that is great groups for open sights at 25 yards and 7x at 50. I need more now days to keep my groups tight!
@@texmexshoots No, not match at all, just the stuff they sold in $5 500 rd. bricks as we called them. They shot exceptionally well in my pistol from a bench rest. 1/4" 10 round groups at 25 yards and 1/2" at 50 yards if I was up for it, it could shoot better than I could.
@@MountainFisher That's a great accuracy for standard ammo! Plus I expect all your competition experience honed your skills. I would have also bought everything they had on the shelves. It's always great when you find that magic ammo your firearm loves. Thanks again for sharing!
@@texmexshoots Still have my Dan Wesson 8" barrel .357 Maximum with those 180 grain .358 rifle bullets I filed 10 grains off the front to fit in my cylinder. 1700 fps compressed load of Reloader 7 with bench rest rifle primers.
My ruger american rimfire .22lr 22 inch barrel likes the Agilla. 40gns super extra, my ruger 10-22 had a 18.5 barrel and it liked the agilla super extra 38gn. I found a factory 22inch barrel and swapped it out. Now it likes the agilla 40gns. Both guns hate the agilla interceptor.
Thanks for the info Reo Horse! That is very interesting how the barrel length can affect the loading a particular rifle likes. Hope you enjoyed the video!
i love that federal auto match and the cci blazer stuff always works well in all my 22lr pistols and rifle i turn my nose at the Winchester stuff bombs in my guns
Aqulia and the cci blazer always shoot very well in my Marlin model 60 Marlin model 80 and my Ruger 10-22 the winchester, federal, and champion provide ample frustration with mis fires, failure to eject I also experience the same problems with norma tac 22 and armscor. The only ammo that I buy is CCI standard, AR 300 pack MiniMag or Veloster and the Aquilia super extra these brands all fire pretty much flawlessly in my sig 1911/22 and all of my rifles, Lever and bolt action guns can be very forgiving regarding ammo quality semi autos not so much
My Marlin model 60 also seems to really like CCI Blazer and most other CCI and Federal ammo. It does not like Winchester white box or especially M22. I stocked up on Blazer during the Trump era
Nice head to head, I like the Aguila myself in most of my 22 LRs. Can I recommend that you try the CCI Tactical, it preforms quite well. I have a RUGER 10/22 HEAVY BARREL MODEL 01262. It states in the user manual DO NOT USE CCI MINI MAG ammo, the case is just a few thousands too long. But the CCI TAC works no problem.
Thanks for the info PlayingWithFIreOutdoors! Didn't know about the mini mag problem in 10/22s. Guess I should read my manuals. 😄 I'll try to get my hands on some CCI Tactical and compare it with some others.
I still have part of a Winchester 555 box I bought about 14 years ago, works in the bolt action rifles but the bullets are so loose they jam in all the semi-autos. The Remingtons from the same time had a very high FTF rate and quite failure to eject.
That would have been around 2008? After that election ammo flew off the shelves. If I recall correctly, that the time 22lr in particular became difficult to find for quite some time. It's possible you got rush production 22 trying to fill the void. Personally Remington golden bullets have always been hit or miss for me.
@@texmexshoots I was standing in line buying any bulk .22LR I could but eventually swore off any Remington .22LR except for the higher priced stuff in plastic boxes. Loose bullets, split casings, dirty. More failures then all of the Winchester and Federal and American Eagle put together.
@@frankhinkle5772 That's been my experience as well. That being said I have bought a box of thunderbolts and rem golden bullets for my next bulk comparison. Considering only using bolt actions for that one!
Yep, both of those ammo companies have turned things around. No longer do I avoid these rimfire 22's. Even Thunderbolts & The Golden bullet are great shooters. Winchester bulk ammo was in the dumps for years, try the new ones, make sure they are from latest production, surprise!
Nice comparison! I've run a lot of Fed. Automatch, it works well for me in most of my .22 rifles, pistols & revolvers, also CCI and Aguila. Got a couple of boxes of Winchester Super X though, and that was extremely problematic. Lots of misfires, stovepipes, and failures to extract. Couldn't find any firearm that likes them so I've still got a box & a half. Remington Golden Bullets also perform well for me. Oh, how I wish I had an outdoor range to try 'em all out at 50 or 100 yards! The only ranges close to me are all indoor, all 25yd. Oh well!
Sorry to hear about your range limitations. I am very fortunate to have multiple ranges within an hour's drive. Even one indoor range out to 100 yards. I like the indoor due to it taking wind out of the equation when sighting in a rifle. But getting out of the city if my favorite way to shoot. I've heard a few people who have trouble with the Winchester. Strangely enough a few of my rifles like it. 22's are very temperamental!
@@texmexshoots You've sure right about 22s being picky! I may have just got a bad batch, too. It's crazy, here in N Texas there's a lot of open land, but it's all privately-owned, so you have to know someone (or at least know who to ask for permission.) Oh well!
Surprising? I enjoyed you video, I shoot the same .22's that you do. I did my initial tests using just a 10/22 over 10 years ago and had the same results. For practice and hunting varmints, all I use is the Aguila. It's half the price of CCI, the accuracy and reliability is about equal. The big savings is the cost. Aguila is half the cost of CCI. For serious target and competition, I've found that Eley shoots the best out of my guns. But you pay for that accuracy! Great video brother!
Thanks for watching Mark! I appreciate the kind words. I plan on doing some other ammo tests soon. I just need the planets to align on one of my trips out to the shooting range where there will hopefully be little to no wind. Take care!
@@texmexshoots Little to no wind at this time of year is tough! The Eley ammo I've found that shoots best out of my 10/22's is the Eley Target 22LR Ammo 40 Grain Round Nose, 9.99 a box of 50 at Midway USA. I ran comparisons using SK, Federal, Norma, Aguila, CCI, Winchester, I was shooting dime sized groups at 50 yards. Spendy, but well worth it. SK was the close second. The Norma wasn't bad, about tied with CCI. All were standard velocity, 40 GR Round nosed rounds. For the bulk ammo, Aguila Super High CPRN's win in a landslide. I've got about 7500 rounds of the Aguila, so I put my money where my mouth is. Keep on shooting brother!
@@markbucher7609 That one works well for me too. Started buying it over a decade ago when 22 ammo first started disappearing. It was my first exposure to quality 22.
Based on this video, I need to try some of that Aguila Bulk. Already like and use the 50 round boxes. I like the Blazer ammo too and buy it in the 50 round packs as well.
Thanks for watching edjett2631! My LVT really liked that Aguila bulk pack. They do seem to have a little wax coating on them though. So it would be wise to clean out the chamber after a few hundred rounds to make sure you don't get failures to extract.
TM I tried some of that Agulia you shot in my guns and it shot great I always avoided it because Mexico ain't known for quality control but it shot great so I stocked up.I have a 1022 I built in the 80s when it wasn't much known I got a Fagen stock and a Midland heavy bull barrel it one holes the stuff. And I love the smell I think it's the gunpowder they use..Some of these match shooter guys on Utube shoot 20 seasoning rounds when they change Ammo I don't think it dose any good myself when they shoot that 40 dollar a box stuff .But thanks for the tip
Thanks for watching Chub4141! I like the smell of that ammo too! I thought that maybe it was the primer they used since it smelled similar to the Eley Target I would occasionally shoot. I bet your 10/22 shoots great! It is always awesome when you finally find an ammunition your particular rifle likes. Take care and stay safe!
Thanks for the video, the Aguila and Winchester 333 are available at my local sporting goods store to try out on my Marlin 795. Hopefully, I’ll get similar results.
Thanks for watching Glenn! You know how it is, the moment you want to do some shooting the wind starts to blow. It wasn't too bad and I plan to do another bulk pack comparison here soon.
I appreciate the kind words Dennis! I bought more bulk packs and have been planning another head to head test. Unfortunately I can only get away every few weeks, and it's been windy every time I go. Hopefully soon.
You should have had some Remington golden bullets in your demo.I think the jamming problem with your 1022 is the gun all these semi autos from 2000 on seem to have the problem.I think they just put cheaper parts on the inside and make the outside look flashey all my older 22s eat everything and never fail but these newer ones in rifle and pistol seem to have cycling problems
Thanks for watching! Semi-auto 22lr firearms can be very picky about what ammo they cycle well. Sorry I was unable to test Rem golden bullets. Didn't have any at the time. Maybe for the next test!
When you change ammo you can be changing bullet lube and powder fouling that can affect accuracy and functionality of semi auto firearms. Five or ten rounds to season the barrel before groups might tell you a different story. Try a Volquartsen extractor for the 10/22 to reduce the failure to eject stoppages. I haven't done it my self yet but cleaning the chamber with wet and dry patches between brands might help the function of the semi.
Thanks for the info Gordon! I might try running patches through at my next ammo comparison. It will take more time to film but should give me better results. I also need to keep an eye on the extractor as well. Maybe blast it with gun scrubber between brands and run a cloth under to get any gunk out.
Understood and I completely agree. I use the patch worm system. I like it a lot and use it all on my 22's and one 17 I own. patchworm.com/ No metal involved and I can pull a couple of patches through just to clean up the chamber and some of the barrel between brands.@@gordonv2456
Thanks for the info! I've usually had great luck with CCI as well, but recently I did have a batch of mini mags that had a few misfires. I think it was on my single six video. Otherwise they are always good to go.
You need to try the Green Mountain 17" tapered barrel or the FJ Fedderson 17" also tapered. Will fit in perfectly in the LVT stock. Both have high ratings due to the bentz chambers.
@@texmexshoots also like to see velocity tests on yer 20" LVT. CCI SV/Blazer, Tac 22, Federal & Winchester Whitebox. Be the first to show how fast they flying outta the Varmint barrels. 👀
Thanks for watching Michael! And boy is that the truth. Especially with 22's who will shoot some great and others terribly. But part of the fun is figuring out which ones they like!
Thanks for watching! The first ammo shortage that happened over a decade ago was when I first started buying higher grade match 22lr. It was a real eye opener
Thanks for watching Mike. I have put some Aguila loadings against CCI SV in about three of my videos. Two when I was testing them through the Buckmark Hunter and Challenge. And there is a video I put out a while back comparing different Standard Velocities through some rifles. Check my channel and it should be there.
Should try some CCI, Standard Velocity, AR Tactical, Copper 22, Meat Eaters. Also the Thunderbolts. You clean your barrel(s) before you head out? Maybe wind was a little high for them groups. On a different note, what kinda watch you have, looks heavyweight outdoors like my Pathfinder.
Thanks for watching! I plan on making some more 22lr comparison videos here soon. I'm sticking to stuff I can currently find in stores since I figure people will be more interested in what they can buy. I do clean my barrels between shoots. Especially if I am checking for accuracy. Some of those rounds are pretty dirty and I will start having failures to feed. As for the watch, it's a Tag Heuer F1 with the big date on the bottom. Bought it used and so far it has worked well. I tend to beat up my watches (not on purpose) so I always need something beefy. If I recall it has a 42mm case which is why it looks so big!
@@texmexshoots right on! Yah them Aguila have a different but ok smell to them. Some of mine (22lr Aguila) look like I put them in my ear with a wad of wax on them. 🤣 👂 👀
Thanks Brad! I plan on doing another bulk pack review in the next few months. Sadly the last couple of times I was able to escape to the country, it was too windy for an accuracy test.
Before I watch, or even see what gun you are going to use, I have a prediction based on my experience. Best, 1 Aguila 2 Federal AutoMatch 3. Blazers if you season the barrel 4. Winchester 333 5. Federal trash pack.
@@texmexshoots Oh yeah... I have all types of Aguila 22 ammo ... From 60 grain 'sniper 22 lr - 30 grain Supermaximum at 1700 fps and Colibri 20 grain primer only!!!

Agulia do stink just like eleys. 👍cascade is a brand I like but there hard to find I stocked up while I could that was last year when they were 100bucks for 500rounds crazy but had to have..Great vid by the way thanks for the reviews
Thank you for watching Bassmaster81! I've always been curious as to how some brands compare to each other and this video was a real eye opener. Of course 22 rifles/pistols do seem to be finicky about what brands they like but at least I know what works best for these two firearms.
Well Dennis, maybe someone will send me one! 😁 I actually do have a couple of Savage rifles, but in 22 mag. The only 22lr I have is a Rascal I got for my daughters.
I replied yesterday, but for some reason TH-cam sometimes hides or deletes posts. My advice would be to first try a different manufacturer of ammunition first. Potentially CCI Standard Velocity or something similar. If you can only access Aguila ammunition, then yes, I would try the lighter grain or different bullet type.
I’m pretty surprised to see so many failures to eject and double feeds with the 10/22. I don’t have near that many problems with mine. Could it need a good cleaning? Just curious.
That is always a possibility. However I do clean my rifle after every shoot. Usually first with a "gun scrubber" type powder solvent , then I run some patches or snake through the barrel and then oil up the springs and guide rods. I may have not given the ejector enough attention though.
Thanks for the video. I really like the 22lr. It’s actually affordable to go shooting. You have to have a pretty hefty bank account to shoot much of most other calibers.
Thanks for watching! In my experience, most semi-autos 22lr rifles/pistols are very picky about the ammo they will shoot reliably. Many won't like bulk packs or hi-velocity loads. Federal Auto Match usually does well, but CCI SV usually works in even the pickiest of firearms.
@@texmexshoots admittedly I've never shot Aguila, so to me the juries out on that, i'll try it if I ever see it...and yeah you're spot on w the semi's being picky
Lawrence, they are the 38g hollow points. I've been trying to find a box to compare with the bulk pack, but so far I can only find 40gr. And yes, they do shoot great out of the LVT!
@@texmexshoots seeing your green stock on the American, would you paint your LVT a camo color too? I thought about it a couple of times. Maybe a green, tan mix. If I ever do decide to do so.
That particular Ruger American came with the green stock. However it has a black cheek riser on the back that I believe can be switched out for different heights. Although I have never tried to take it apart. I do change the stock on some of my rifles, but the LVT shot so well that I hesitate to do anything to it. Also I like the look of the wood on that particular firearm. Probably due to my history with classic wood bolt actions. It's mostly a bench rest rifle anyway so there is no need for me to camouflage it.
@@texmexshoots is that a leather sling on the LVT? What kind is it? I saw one (leather) with a shell holder on it. Think it was 20rds. I might get one like that for my 10/22. Do have a spandex stock shell holder. 14rds & it is handy, to me anyways. Should get one for the bolt.
I purchased it from Ruger's website but don't see it listed anymore. I liked it due to having the Ruger emblem on the front and the leather is padded at the shoulder strap. However the do have one that has a pouch for carrying an extra mag: shopruger.com/Ruger-10_22-Sling-with-Mag-Pouch/productinfo/50113/
Hello Gspsx. Thanks for watching. I'm not 100% certain, but I think Aguila uses a wax coating on their ammo. Probably to keep out moisture. That can build up on the chamber.
Hello Fryinberg! Thanks for asking. It's all stock with a Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9 X40 Rimfire MOA. That and I adjusted the factory trigger to as light as it would go.
9mm is too expensive so I got an M&P 22 Compact for Christmas. It loves tne Aguila and a brand called Atmos. Both gave great groupings. It would not for CCI. Every other round would misfire. I think that box of ammo must have got too much moisture.
That is “terrible ammo” your only shooting at 50 yards push out to 100 where SD start to really matter.. also those aren’t good groups at all. I did enjoy the video An don’t mean to sound like a jerk just the fact as far as the distance an SD are concerned.. thanks!!
I appreciate the comment Jeffrey. I guess you can only expect a certain amount of accuracy out of a bulk pack. They aren't typically going to shoot like Eley or other quality ammunition. Plus I'll readily admit I am not the best shooter in the world, and my rifles don't have target grade barrels. But a man can dream 😂
@@texmexshoots in my s&w 15-22 semi they just don’t work well at all. 80% of the ammo jams, does not fire, ect. Unfortunately I have 3 555 boxes that are totally useless to me.
Again testing accuracy of 22lr outdoors is so hard to evaluate that it makes testing just hit and miss. Find a good 50-yard indoor range and perform your tests, that is the only way you can evaluate true accuracy.
I appreciate the advice John. The only indoor ranges around here only allow for one hour rental. That wouldn't give me enough time to test much. However I've been waiting for a calm day to do some other testing. I'll be swabbing the barrel between different brands and seasoning with a few rounds before putting it on paper. Hopefully that will help me get more consistent results.
My 50-yard range crosses a bunch of little dips and valleys in a wooded area. Over the years I have noticed that sunny days are hard to get a good grouping and the only thing I could think of was heat inversion, so I did some research and found out that even snipers have to account for this. So many variables, but that is what makes it fun to shoot 22lr. @@texmexshoots
That's some good advice. I knew heat could cause some optical lensing, but never thought I would be a good enough shot for it to matter. 😅 @@Anoldphotographer
It was very odd to hear Aguila pronounce correctly! The way it's pronounce on most videos drives me nuts. And I'm a white guy. It's like when people say halapeeno. It's a pet-peeve of mine.
Thanks for watching Allen! Yeah, as someone who grew up spending time in both The Unites States, Mexico, and the border which culturally is its own weird thing that is neither US or Mex, I'm accustomed to many mispronunciations. 🤣 But I'm sure I'm guilty of it too. You can hear me stammer in most of my videos.
I tried ordering a pepperoni pizza with jalapeños on it over the phone in new york and the dude taking my order didnt know what I was talking about, so i explained what the topping looked like and he said “oh the Juh-lap-e-nose, yeah we got those”. For once i was grateful for the less butchered pronunciation of halapeenos.
OOhhh NOW I see... An LBT is some fancy bull Barrel with no iron sights!!! I KNOW I'm wrong in this BUT I'm stubborn and GEN X raised by not BOOMERS but THE ULTIMATE GEN... WW2 and NO IRONS... NO SALE!!! I will NOT buy a Rifle w/o Iron sights UNLESS it's an AR and I can add them w/out a machinist.... Scopes are GREAT but a Rifle w/no sights = SALE!!!
Yes sir! The LVT (Light Varmint Target) has a thicker barrel profile than your standard 10/22, but doesn't have the full bull barrel of the target version. It starts as a bull and tapers down to the muzzle. And you are correct, no sights. However it does come with a scope rail pre-installed.
Excellent review! Uses 2 rifles, 5 different types of ammo, no preconceived ideas (no sponsors involved), described results and even showed target results with corresponding ammo used. Simply down to earth, good job. Thanks!
I appreciate that Scott! You are very kind. I plan to do another bulk pack test here soon. Just need to get away from work and out to the country.
Good video. I appreciate how you used 2 different rifles for each ammo. It helps to narrow down which ammo can possibly be consistent.
Thanks 4Bears! I appreciate that. The ammo comparisons are my favorite videos to make.
I have never experienced that, but I have only bought the 50 boxes.
The 50 round boxes don't seem to be waxed.
Might be worth the time to remove the wax.
Maybe different production lots have varying wax coatings
I ordered 500 of the Aguila HVs today before I watched this, lookin good. Nice demo!
Thanks! You'll be happy with it. Many of my rifles shoot it well.
A very comprehensive test of the ammos, you clearly have put a lot of thought and effort into getting these results, well done.
What i'm kinda surprised about is that the "Jam-o-Matic" generally returned better groups than the bolt gun.
Good work Tex. 👍
Thank you very much! I appreciate the kind words. Planning some more bulk pack tests soon.
I'm with you MV-DB this test really opened my eyes to the quality of the Aguila rimfire ammo! Happy shooting!
Thanks.
Thanks for watching Joe! It's great quality ammo for bulk pack. Going to try some more bulk pack tests soon now that the weather is getting nice.
I've had good luck with the Aguila, is a little dirtier but for me it's been pretty consistent and still fairly priced. 👍
Consistent is a good description of Aguila. Thanks for watching Tes Tos!
It is super dirty, I started using cci mini mag and a noticeable difference when cleaning
My ruger american 22" loves the automatch
Thanks for watching! The automatch works well out of a few of my rifles and pistols. It was one of the first bulk packs that gave me decent accuracy.
@@dogmudkips567 same here. 22"
And my Marlin 60 as well.
That was great! Alot of fun to watch. Two excellent rifles with what looks like top-notch glass. I've owned two 10/22's.
Thanks Steve! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. My ammo test videos take more time and effort to produce, but they sure are a lot of fun! Those 10/22 LVT's are real gems. Great bang for your buck but their triggers need a bit of work.
@@texmexshoots couldn't believe how accurate it was with that Aguila ammo
Great job on testing. Real world stuff. Results surprised me I must say. That’s why we need to test different brands in our rifles to find its preferences
Thanks for watching Rich! It really is amazing how different rifles can prefer different types of 22. Plus how different the point of impact can be out of one rifle when shooting different brands.
Very good comparison. Thank you! Aguila wins the day. I get mine from Rural King, they generally have them stocked up.
Thanks for watching Al! Glad you have good access to Aguila. It will occasionally appear around here, but quickly dries up.
I switched to Aguila exclusively for Project Appleseed shoots...very consistent in the TX22 and the Tippmann AR. Qualified multiple times with it.
Thanks for watching MT. 22's can be very ammo sensitive. But it's always fun trying to figure out which brand/weight it likes.
Yeah, my 10/22 is a jam o matic, my cmmg 22lr conversion works great
My ruger american (same as yours) shoots that winchester really well. Even better now with .002" trigger shims bolt shim installed. Hitting golf balls at 70yrds 3 out of 5. And 5/5 at 50yrds.
Wow Malky! That sounds like some great shooting. It is always wonderful when a rifle likes bulk pack ammo. Thanks for watching!
I’ve had so much success with that white box Winchester despite all the flak I’ve heard about it.
Thanks for watching Kevin. It certainly shot well out of my rifles!
Shoots fine for me also 🙏🏻🇺🇸🤙🏻💯
@@22addict40 Thanks for watching 22Addict. Glad ammo is appearing back on the shelves to sustain your addiction!
@@texmexshoots Your Welcome and Thank You Sir 🙏🏻🇺🇸🤙🏻💯
Was the first box i got for my 10/22, tried it out and it would not cycle very well. Shot about 150-200 of federal auto match which cycled fine. Retried the Winchester and worked perfectly with pretty good accuracy from 50 yards. Pretty sure the gun just needed a little breaking in before running it
Those 550 packs were plentiful years back!! Glad I stocked up on a few of those… also liked the blue federal bulk packs too..
Those 550 packs were the main reason i visited Walmart. They always had them. Those were the days.
@@texmexshoots yeah miss them good days when ammo was plentiful and cheap
@@jbazan11 Ahh for the days CCI Mini Mags 50 pack .49 cents 100 for .97 and it was sold everywhere, sigh...
@jz422 How long ago was cci minimag $0.01cpr?
The 550 Federal Value Packs were $8.97 at Walmart, their every day low price. I wish I had stocked up on more of these. This was probably prior to the shortages around 2008 - 2010.
I found that the Aguila worked really well for me also. So good that when it was four cents a round I brought 35,000 rounds 50-50 of standard velocity and high velocity. I'm so glad I did.
That was a smart move! Stack up on the good stuff. Happy shooting!
Thanks for watching Norman! I appreciate the support. I need to try some Velocitors myself.
Sounds like you enjoy shooting the good stuff! It really is amazing what a quality 22 rifle or pistol can do when paired with match grade ammunition.
The moment I fired some of that Aguila I could smell the similarity to Eley. Must be why they do so well in my rifles!
Great review. I go to the range a lot and shoot a ton of .22LR along with 9mm, AR and 12 Gauge. I’ve always wondered about .22LR.
Thanks Mr. Evil! If I can get a nice calm day I plan on doing more 22lr comparisons.
I think that Aguila is Eley primed. And yes it is good ammo. All my firearms seem to run well with it.
That makes sense. It really seems to be the best bang for your buck!
Very nice now we need a chronoed comparison
I was already thinking of getting a chrono, so I'll use it for the next bulk pack comparison.
Thanks for watching Andrew! Winchester seems to be dirtier than lots of the other bulk packs. Tends to gum up the actions on semi-autos.
Aqulia and the cci blazer always shoot very well in my Marlin model 60 Marlin model 80 and my Ruger 10-22 the winchester, federal, and champion provide ample frustration with mis fires, failure to eject I also experience the same problems with norma tac 22 and armscor. The only ammo that I buy is CCI standard, AR 300 pack MiniMag or Veloster and the Aquilia super extra these brands all fire pretty much flawlessly in my sig 1911/22 and all of my rifles, Lever and bolt action guns can be very forgiving regarding ammo quality semi autos not so much
Thanks for the info r hare! I agree that the lever actions will eat what the semi-autos won’t. Or a good ol’ pump action.
I'll try to get my hands on some CCI Tactical and compare it with some others.
Yep...Aguila ... They use Eley Primers legend has it!
Makes sense! Might explain the accuracy.
The Agulia bulk and the Blazer is the BEST imo
Thanks for watching Censored Truck Driver! Both of those ammunitions have done well in some of my firearms.

I appreciate that Timothy. I really do enjoy making these videos. Still figuring out all of the technical issues.
@@texmexshoots I can only imagine the headaches that making a video can entail. Keep up the good work.

It really is one of the best bangs for your buck as far as bulk packs go.

Excellent vid, should be getting thousands of views! Thanks for doing this, helps me decide donde a poner mi dinero.
I would like to see the Aguila 40gr lead round nose and the copper plated round nose vs. The lot.
Thanks for watching! I do plan to do some other bulk pack comparisons soon. Just waiting for the weather to cool down a bit.
I was not suggesting you run a rod down your barrel a lot. More .22 barrels are ruined with rods than ammo.@@texmexshoots
Understood and I completely agree. I use the patch worm system. I like it a lot and use it all on my 22's and one 17 I own.

No metal involved and I can pull a couple of patches through just to clean up the chamber and some of the barrel between brands.@@gordonv2456

Thanks for watching! The first ammo shortage that happened over a decade ago was when I first started buying higher grade match 22lr. It was a real eye opener
have you compared the aguila to the CCI standard yet? I always hear good things about CCI
CCI is absolutely the best 22 ammo
Thank you for watching! I certainly use a lot of CCI and their Standard Velocity load is one of my favorites.
Overall you are right CCI is good ammo!
Blazer yeah! My guns luv them!
I always thought of Blazer as the low end CCI stuff, but their 22lr is quite good.
The Aguila uses ELY primer. Good nose!
Thanks Brad! I plan on doing another bulk pack review in the next few months. Sadly the last couple of times I was able to escape to the country, it was too windy for an accuracy test.
Okay, so we see how they perform from rifles, but how good are they from a 22lr pistol?
Thanks for watching Cat Whispurrer. I plan on doing some other bulk pack tests soon. I'll try to add some pistols in there next time.
Before I watch, or even see what gun you are going to use, I have a prediction based on my experience.
Best, 1 Aguila
2 Federal AutoMatch
3. Blazers if you season the barrel
4. Winchester 333
5. Federal trash pack.
You were mostly right!
Automatch and Aguila do well in my marlin 60...
Automatch had been my bulkpack "go to" for semi auto shooting, but Aguila impressed me in this video. Started buying it more often.
@@texmexshoots Oh yeah... I have all types of Aguila 22 ammo ...
From 60 grain 'sniper 22 lr - 30 grain Supermaximum at 1700 fps and Colibri 20 grain primer only!!!
Good video
Thanks Grace! I appreciate you watching.

Thanks for watching jpb. Sorry for the late reply. For some reason my notifications can be spotty. This ruger is one of my favorite 22lr rifles.
@@texmexshoots No problem at all...I Just PTL we're still staying busy in this Country!!!
Thanks for your reply!
guns can be fickle, if one brand doesn’t work well in semi autos another will. They all work good in bolt, lever, break, pump action and revolver.
Yes sir. I'm thankful there are more options on the shelves again so people can try different brands/loadings out of their firearms.
Wow you really need to get a savage rifle
Well Dennis, maybe someone will send me one! 😁 I actually do have a couple of Savage rifles, but in 22 mag. The only 22lr I have is a Rascal I got for my daughters.
Aguila 🦅 is my favorite! Only cci is better
Thanks for watching Julian! Aguila is good stuff!
Try the 40gns super extra my ruger american rimfire 22 inch barrel much better groups than the 38gns. They come in five hundred box
Will do. Thanks for the info!
Somebody tell me what the heck happened to winchester rimfire ammo! It has been the worst even compared to the cheapests you can find
That's a good question. I still have Winchester ammo from a decade ago that it good stuff. Seems quality control started to slip sometime after that.
I have aguila super extra 40grain... my tx22 doesnt like it at all. Should i try a lower grain?
I replied yesterday, but for some reason TH-cam sometimes hides or deletes posts. My advice would be to first try a different manufacturer of ammunition first. Potentially CCI Standard Velocity or something similar. If you can only access Aguila ammunition, then yes, I would try the lighter grain or different bullet type.
Where can I buy Aguila ammo online? I looked locally and no one has it.
Hey there! Try ammoseek.com You can narrow the search to look specifically for Aguila in stock.
@@johnanderson3405 Ain't that the Truth!
I think it looks like he is shooting from a between the knees stance.
I'm not that flexible!😅
Lol.. that's what I thought at first.. I thought how the heck is he doing that.. then I re iew liked it was a rest
@@jamesbranham2217 Yup, just a caldwell shooting bag.
most bulk 22lr I ever get is terrible for me, always jamming...CCI is all i run now
Thanks for watching!
Them Aah gee lah, are they the HV hollow point 38g.? Cause they rock in a LVT. Especially for bulk.
However the do have one that has a pouch for carrying an extra mag:
shopruger.com/Ruger-10_22-Sling-with-Mag-Pouch/productinfo/50113/
The Winchester might be good out of a revolver or bolt action but it doesn't look like it's good for semi autos
You know how picky some 22 autos can be. But yes, I think it works better out of a bolt or lever rifle.
The rifle your shooting again?
The Ruger 10/22 LVT and a Ruger American Rimfire
Aguila leaves grit behind. Anyone know what that is?
Hello Gspsx. Thanks for watching. I'm not 100% certain, but I think Aguila uses a wax coating on their ammo. Probably to keep out moisture. That can build up on the chamber.
Thanks
Thanks for watching!
The aguila super .22 doesnt like my tx22 at all. Always misfeeds every magazine
Firearms chambered in .22 are usually very finicky about the ammo they will shoot well. Save the aguila for a different gun and try something else.
@@texmexshoots thanks for the reply
I would say your scopes off, plus how about 5 fouling shots before you shoot the next brand?
Thanks for the advice Whittler! I will keep that in mind for my next ammunition test.
What's you ruger american setup?
Hello Fryinberg! Thanks for asking. It's all stock with a Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9 X40 Rimfire MOA. That and I adjusted the factory trigger to as light as it would go.
Aguila uses Eley primers
That explains it! Thanks for watching Jonathan.
1ST SHOT @ 2'30"
Thanks for watching John! So does that mean that I'm talking too much before shooting? 😅
Tag Heuer Formula 1?
Yes, good eye!
👍
Thanks as always 3Pillers.
Man at 10:22 she's pretty good with that aguila
Thanks Anthony! Yes, she seems very partial to them. Luckily I was able to pick up a couple of extra boxes.
9mm is too expensive so I got an M&P 22 Compact for Christmas. It loves tne Aguila and a brand called Atmos. Both gave great groupings. It would not for CCI. Every other round would misfire. I think that box of ammo must have got too much moisture.
Thanks for watching Frank. Those M&P 22 compacts are sweet! You must have been good last year for Santa to bring you such a nice present!
Shocking! Winchester fails to extract.
This ammo always gives me problems with any rifle.
What was more surprising is that it grouped relatively well. But if it won't cycle that restricts its use to bolt/lever actions.
@@texmexshoots in my s&w 15-22 semi they just don’t work well at all. 80% of the ammo jams, does not fire, ect. Unfortunately I have 3 555 boxes that are totally useless to me.
@@GreenPleco Do you have a friend with a lever or bolt action 22lr? You could give them away as Christmas gifts 🙂🎄
@@texmexshoots i am thinking of buying a single action Rough Rider 22lr revolver. I hope they work on that.
@@GreenPleco I expect they will 👍
Again testing accuracy of 22lr outdoors is so hard to evaluate that it makes testing just hit and miss.
What the heck is an LVT and is really saving you time to say LVT when that is basically 3 words already?
The LVT is the Light Varmint Target. And sadly yes Mr. casualgunguy, with my habit of mumbling and stammering, the less words I say the better! 😅
@@Initial_Gopnik LOL! I hope the pizza was good!
@@texmexshoots Kewl rifle... maybe you'll convert me!
Blazer sucks. Dirty as hell. I tried few different calibers of that brand I completely hate it
Thanks for watching! That does seem to be the consensus on Blazer 22. However I have gotten some good accuracy out of it out certain firearms.
jesus christ man, get a windscreen on your camera. BYEEEEEE
I'm still a newbie at this. Sorry to see you go.
Apparently I had the wind reduction option off on my camera. Hopefully that will fix the issue for the next videos.
