  • Looking at precision rimfire rifles from entry level to full blown custom! CZ455, CZ457, B-14R, Vudoo 360. Lets see how they stack up at 50 yards for a base line against each other and just go over the thought process of how and why I made the changes I did.

    All those guns are capable, 22 rimfire competition is no joke, best thing is that you can enter a match with any of those guns stock and compete! Firm believer in practice, speed drills, breathing, positional shooting, and knowledge of the environment that effects a match. Best thing is everyone at every match I have ever attended helped me out. Thanks for your video! It is a great sport and with guys like you promoting your experience it helps the sport.

      Thanks man I appreciate the kind words. Practice, is so key and to your point you can be a top competitive shooter with anything on this list. The beautiful thing about Rimfire is that everyone has to shoot factory 22lr ammo.

    My cz457 American sport contour barrel (20”) shoots the SK long range ammo so well. At 50 yards it’s 10 shot groups inside a dime and right at 1MOA at 100yards. I only hunt with it so that’s more then good for me but I definitely appreciate these prs builds and what they are capable of!

    One year ago I bought a Bergarra b14 r carbon fiber. I modified for Benchrest which I shoot due to handicapped.
    I used it for 6 months. I immediately searched for a used custom Benchrest rifle. I bought a used full custom 40 x rimfire Benchrest rifle. Used it for several months. Now I'm having Speedy Gonzales build a rifle using my 40 x action. Bought a Shilen Ratchet barrel,a McMillan Edge stock . He is doing the stock work, chambering the barrel and adding a new Jewel trigger.
    My advice. Wait till you have the money and buy a custom from the start. It will cost less in the last ng run. Ps. My second scope is a Sightron SIII SS 45 by 45. Sfp. Perfect for Benchrest. Good video. Thanks

    I have a 455 CZ trainer with a twenty inch heavy barrel. Manners rifle stock. Installed a lighter spring and EGW 20 MOA rail. Today I have a Riton Conquer 7 3-18x50 rife scope being delivered today for my CZ. I just sold my last Arken SH4 scope yesterday. The glass wasn’t that great. I actually use to own four of them. I really like the turrets. I have two Arken EP5 models. That aren’t going anywhere. The glass is so much nicer. I don’t compete. So I’m not worried about having to stay with in the rules. That Vudoo is sweet.

    On a comparison video like this I always see the comments about how the groups shot by the higher dollar custom rifle is not that much better than the stock cheap rifle.
    What people are failing to understand is most all decent .22lr rifles can shoot fairly well and acceptable at 50 yds and some even do decent at up to 100 yds.
    You are paying for the consistency and more repeatable performance at up to the 100 yd mark with the much tighter tolerances of the custom rifle build and beyond a 100yds is where the custom owns most factory rifles and really starts to shine and show its superiority.
    For my use something like a Bergara B14R with possibly a decent trigger upgrade and maybe glass that could be caught on sale for around a $800-$1000 is about the max I could even try to justify but I still enjoy the precision that is put into some of the custom builds shown in different you tube videos even though they are way above what I can afford.

    Started with a Rem 513T then progressed to a Bergara B-14R carbon barrel. I pulled that barrel and put on a Bartlein MTU and a barrel I made here in the shop (spoiler alert) mine shoots better. Now i'm going the other way. I don't shoot PRS and nothing is beating the Anschutz 54s and Win 52s at 100 yards. So, i just bought an Anschutz 54 Match and i'm setting it up with a scope and a Walther UIT Special Match set up with dipopter sights. Sometimes the old ways and rifles are the best way.

    I’m surprised that Tikka Didn’t get a nod . I’ve competed against others with vudoo and begarra. And have been more than capable of holding my own to include winning . Also like many others my custom 10/22 with summit precision barrel has been an excellent performer with a stock receiver . Another rifle worth mentioning which has to be the best bang for the buck os a SAVAGE MKii Fvs. Is surprisingly accurate and super affordable

      Not a fan of the carbon wrapped barrels. You will not get better accuracy out of it compared to a bull barrel. The only thing your getting is weight savings and in most comp shooting you want the weight. carbon barrels may be good for squirrel hunting or if your packing the rifle for a hiking trip or something.

      @@rudolphferdinand3634 There really isn't a wrong answer, if shooting puts a smile on your face shoot what you like, the top tier rifles really shine as distance increases. Reading wind is a must if shooting extreme long range and good ammo

    Thanks for the video! Curious as to how the Vudoo hold up against Anschutz as all the medalist from the Olympic games shot nothing but Anschutz. Also like to see compared to Rem 40X in .22LR. Believe both the Anschutz and Rem are using 27” barrels.

      I understand that modern position rifles only have about 12 inches rifled. The rest is called a bloop tube and it’s real purpose is to hold the front sight in place and maintain the sight radius. I have an, as I recall, 1971 vintage Anschutz that is rifled all the way. Anschutz’s big advantage is trigger group design that is mechanical, but faster than electronic designs. More important for position shooting than bench rest. Getting the bullet out of the barrel with iron sights aligned is what this discipline is all about.

    What ammo?

  • @cz503
    @cz503 ปีที่แล้ว

    What competitions you shoot with your 22LR rifles? By zeroing at 50 you can not go down on turrets on closest targets like 20[30 yards right? You have to hold down because of zero stop I guess..

    • @midwest_long_range
      @midwest_long_range  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We are shooting PRS Rimfire and NRL22 and for targets sub 50 yards we either hold under or depending on what scope you are using we set our zero stops to be able to dial down between .5 and 1 mill.

      @@midwest_long_range Not feel comfortable with both- I have zero stop on my scope and passing it down will reflect my time theoretecaly . Same with how down - for some reason my brain take extra time to accept , Need more practice to get it right. Thanks

    What brand of ammo were you using and did you use the same ammo in all the rifles or did you shoot what that particular rifle liked the best.

    • @midwest_long_range
      @midwest_long_range  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s been a while sine I filmed this I think I used what shot best in each rifle. I think the 455 and b14 were sk rifle match, and 457 and vudoo was sk long range but I’m just guessing it’s been long enough ago I don’t remember for sure.
