      @@ImHungryMKI’ve seen your videos on this one and the Bella. I’m curious about your opinion on this aspect: the PIG blows from the top of the hopper and the Bella blows from the bottom of the hopper. Do you think that affects how much heat (and/or smoke) is transferred into the cooking chamber?

  • @EnochLight
    @EnochLight 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Still waiting for that follow-up review of the PIG. It's been over a year and 1/2 - @I'm Hungry - you still using it?

    Would it be better to put it on the opposite side of the smokestack? For better flow of the smoke. I have to get one for my rec-teq rt700

    • @ImHungryMK
      @ImHungryMK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would on the RT-700, but you have to be careful of the controller. The BFG has two smokestacks so I chose to use the non-controller side.

    Hey, I have the magnum PIG on my RecTeq Bull and love it! I've been using over a year and the way SmokeDaddy says to use it is not how I use it. I fill up half to 3/4 with charcoal and light from the bottom. Thought about getting a small chimney but haven't yet but that would make it easier. Once the charcoals are mostly hot(white color) which can take 20 minutes or so, then I add wood chunks. Sometimes I use chips but prefer to use chunks as they last longer. Then as it goes time over time, I will add one or two more charcoals and more chunks and/or chips.
    I watched the comparison video between the SmokeDaddy and the Bella's and the one thing that is hard to measure is the quality of the smoke and affect on the meat. Zero doubt in my mind that while pellets do produce smoke and good smoke, charcoal and real wood is just different. I do run through fuel faster because I have my magnum PIG on the non controller side of my RecTeq Bull so I need the pressure higher to reach the other side to create a reverse flow. With your BFG, won't be as necessary to have the pump as high I would think.
    I have a long thread with some others on smokin meats forum all about the Magnum PIG and one also on SmokeDaddy's HeavyD heat diffuser. I have both and WAY prefer the Magnum PIG.
    Good luck and smoke on!

      Doesn't adding that much charcoal increase the temp in the smoker? I don't have a PID controller so just using one briquette and chips raised my temp 12 degrees.

    • @Kstone113
      @Kstone113 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danamcfadden2147 No, the PID takes care of all of it. I have cooked at different temps with running the magnum pig. As low as 180 and as high as 275.

      @@Kstone113 so what's the additional smoke flavor like. Thinking of adding one to my smokefire

    • @Kstone113
      @Kstone113 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hinds90 Mimics more an offset smoke taste than just the pellet smoke. Pellet smoke is lighter than wood and especially lighter than charcoal and wood. My first smoker was just a vertical propane smoker using wood chips and chunks. But at first when I got my pellet smoker, the smoke ring would be bigger but way less smoke flavor. Time and seasoning a pellet smoker does help with that over time but still different than real wood and charcoal. Hope you get what I am saying.

      I went with the Bella's they recommend a 50% chip and 50% pellet mix, it seems to work perfect. They also revised the lid to reduce/eliminate condensation. th-cam.com/video/os7XsxWUiqI/w-d-xo.html

    If you watch the manufactures video they say to add some charcoal in with the wood chips to help it burn. I have had one for years but find its a pain in the butt to keep lite even with charcoal to help it out. And it does not last very long before it needs refilling.

    How long would that magnum run for before you'd refill it?

    • @ImHungryMK
      @ImHungryMK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great question, and it really depends on what you put in it and how high the air pump is turned on. I normally get about 2 to 3 hours out of it. Normally closer to 3, however if you crank up the air pump and blanket your neighborhood with smoke it could be done inside an hour. The reverse is also true, if you turn it down you can get 5 to 6 hours of almost nothing but that sucks.

    • @ImHungryMK

      I haven't had much issue with the white smoke,, it's the black smoke that ruins food. It's all the creatine from a raging flare up and it isn't great for sure! Ruins grills and food a like.

    • @ImHungryMK
      @ImHungryMK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      might have worked, but I believe due to the design, they might just get stuck over the tube at the bottom. they would have to be small chips. When summer comes, I am going to be building a box and will be using the Bella’s, will try it.
