    I love mine. I own a rec tec 700 and was never pleased with the smoke flavor (or lack there of) this gets you back to that stick burner taste and quality with still the convenience of a pellet. I cook with the Heavy D on every cook now. I’ve produced some the most amazing brisket with a good smoke ring and bark. And the temp never swings 225 all the time. I even have LavaLock tape on the door. Not sure where people complain of high temp swings or fires. I’ve even loaded mine to the brim both chambers never an issue.

      tell me more please, how does it sit in the bottom of the rt700, so the sticks sit on the side or are they front and back
      Im considering one for my rectec for the exact reasons you stated
      (also you can try adding smoke tubes , they have helped me get more smokey flavor)

      Tim, did this fit your RT700 without any modification? Which model did you get, the Pit Boss version, or the standard?

      I just used one on my recteq 700. It fits perfectly, the wood chambers are on the left and right of the burn pot

    Will using the Heavy D void a warranty? Of course, one could uninstall I suppose...a bit sneaky, though. Good demonstration, Dennis.

  • @ryancinker7497
    @ryancinker7497 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I start mine on high. Once I know wood is lit I turn it down to 225. It runs a little hot for 3 hours which is no big deal. It might run closer to 250-260. If I have my fan on top running it seems to run hotter. If I shut it off runs a little cooler. The only way I would see problems is if smoker is completely full of meat. Then bottom may get burnt or cook way faster. I love the heavy d and I pack it full every cook. Just have to learn how to cook with added heat. Raise meat to top

  • @rse62965
    @rse62965 ปีที่แล้ว

    To retain the slide n sear function on the camp chef, i cut a hole in the center of the diffuser over the burn pot and place a piece of steel over it for smoking, and slide the strel over for direct flanes. You need a perforated drip pan for this to work properly.

    • @Smokedaddyinc
      @Smokedaddyinc  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Heavy D is meant to be used for smoking and maintaining even temperatures from left to right in the smoker. If you planned on using the slide and sear function I would remove the Heavy D

      @@Smokedaddyinc I think that you should disclose that fact...a lot of people enjoy the slide n sear function and it isn't feasible to remove the heavy d every time you choose to sear.

      That being said, I just got the best cook ever using the heavy d. The extra mass of the heavy d really helped with temp control and I love the dirty smoke it puts out!

    Would soaking the wood chunks help slow the wood burning and increase smoking time?

    • @Smokedaddyinc
      @Smokedaddyinc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe it would, it is not something that we have tried for ourselves in testing

  • @jeffa7148

    If you put a solid split that fills the entire hole on each side, how long does the wood typically last at low and slow temps(225)?

    • @Smokedaddyinc

  • @Joemauma_

    Are there any benefits to using this over a regular smoke tube? Or will it be pretty similar?

    • @Smokedaddyinc
      @Smokedaddyinc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Using the Heavy D compared to a smoke tube will add more of a smoke flavor. The Heavy D uses the bigger chunks which gives you a better smoke flavor compared to hardwood pellets.

  • @glenjones2164
    @glenjones2164 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is as close to stick burner taste you can get. High to get going and set at 200. It does run a little hotter., so at 200 I get 225 to 230.

    is there a method that will prevent the "fires" and overheating that i hear about? Seems like using 1 larger piece instead of multiple chunks is what works best

    • @Smokedaddyinc
      @Smokedaddyinc  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We recommend using one larger piece, and to be safe we have started soaking the wood so that it is harder to catch on fire. But as long as you are smoking under 250F with one large split we really haven't seen any issues

  • @josephpichardo321
    @josephpichardo321 ปีที่แล้ว

    How long do they normally smoke for? I’m just thinking how many times, if any, do I need to refill it to continue smoking a brisket

    • @Smokedaddyinc
      @Smokedaddyinc  ปีที่แล้ว

      They usually smoke for about 2-3 hours. So you should only need one fill when doing a brisket.

  • @michaelz8661

    Can I take my pellet grill to a higher temperature than the 250 that you mentioned here? What would happen if I took my pellet grill to 350 while using this?

    • @Smokedaddyinc
      @Smokedaddyinc  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you go higher with the Heavy D the sticks would catch on fire instead of smoldering. Which would cause temperature swings and bad smoke from the pellet grill.

  • @addamochs
    @addamochs ปีที่แล้ว

    I sooooo want to buy some of your products but they won't work for my application as sold. I have a Z Grills 6002 series and want to use this stick burner heat diffuser and the heavy duty drip tray. The drip trays on the website are a solid inch too wide for my grill. Inside the entire body is a shade under 16". As for the stick burner, it's too narrow in the middle for the fire pot of about 7" and to the top of the fire pot from the flat body floor is about 3.5". Raising it up isn't hard. Lava rock or weld on a few risers of similar ga steel. It's that extra 2 inches of width need in the middle that is the issue. Do you guys have anything in the works for these units? I just got this thing about 2 months ago and have already accidentally burnt the powder coat off a patch in front. I think grease got down there and caught fire.

    • @Smokedaddyinc
      @Smokedaddyinc  ปีที่แล้ว

      As of right now we don't have anything in the works. We would have to do a whole redesign and make at least a few hundred at a time.

    • @Smokedaddyinc
      @Smokedaddyinc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it is not working directly over the burn pot, it may be by design of the grill to bring all of the heat to the center. I would try off centering it by an inch or so to the left and to the right to see if it helps "cool" the center area of your pit
