    Excellet build guys! Fun and satisfying to watch you talk about it. Question for you... I like how your capped the ends of the cook chamber with half spheres instead of flat plate and how the smoke would collect in it as a manifold then out the stack. Any particular formula in designing the size and length of the stack due to the sphered ends vs coming off of a flat plate? Also, is there a clear finish on your steel? Which one can handle that heat? Thanks!

    • @CodeyMikes
      @CodeyMikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These are old propane tanks that’s why they have the spheres ends. But you’re correct with the smoke. This size was a 250 gallon.
      We use a car clear. Seems to work the best. But I don’t believe there is a forever paint for bbq smokers. Any paint you put on it. You will need to tend to it at some point. The car clear has been the best so far.

    Try making a metal downplate where the firebox meets the tank. Sometimes the flame can jump on you and scorch meat, that'll force the heat below the grates. Badass build man

    From firebox to cook chamber you need a baffle to help deflect heat. Or that side of smoker will be useless cause the heat will be too intense. Also it needs a drain for fat and drippings.

    • @CodeyMikes
      @CodeyMikes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What I would do is get it nice and hot. And scrape the grates. And then pray them down with Pam cooking spray. And then do a dirty smoke on it. Or you could get some fat trimmings (something you don’t really care to eat) and cook on the grill. The metal taste will go away.

    Sick build........I love it. Couple of questions though......What exactly were you trying to show with the torching of the two different types of insulation because neither one of them seemed to burn? Also, the lock on the firebox door and the vent control stem, do they get "untouchable" hot during a cook?

    • @CodeyMikes
      @CodeyMikes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The insulation. The high temp if it gets open flame it doesn’t burn it turns into a metal type dust. The regular would burn /catch on fire. We should’ve touched more on it.
      And it really doesn’t get that that hot. I mean it’s not like you’re going to rest your hand on it. But to put it into position it works fine. When I get the fire set I never mess with the FB damper unless I want to run a dirty fire at any point or if the wind blowing hard right into it.

      Cars N Que just depends on what your cooking
      If only brisket cooks I keep one shelf but I cook several meats at the same time so it’s nice to have 2 shelves. What state are you in?

    How did you get the angle to cut out the hole for the fire box to attach to the smoke chamber?

    • @CodeyMikes
      @CodeyMikes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Took a 4 foot level. Set the outter fire box the height we wanted it. Took a marker and level and did the ark. Then the bottom was flat because the way our fire boxes are.
