I am a welder of 30 some years and I am thrilled that you stick welded the smoker, makes it maleable as the smoker is not stationary when it is used, heat will cause it to expand and contract, therefore using ARC welding will prolong the life of the smoker, great job guys 👦 👍 👏
Just one person's opinion. The setup and Chamber design are Just older classic Joe Davidson design from The Oklahoma Joes Smoker company. The fact you put your time into it and With the Your Father to me makes it Just over the top. Great Build and Time well spent with your Dad.
I checked offer up to see if any smokers were around my area like this one and looks like youre a few miles away from me. What a small world haha. Good job!
I really enjoyed this video. I’ve seen the big names build them and so far this one wins the detail and measurement award. If I would just complain about 1 thing it would be no thermometer reader. 3k sounds fair
Awesome build. Like the "trim" to create a seal around the firebox door, but don't think it's necessary with the door being open for air flow. I did have a few suggestions: - I would ditch the heat deflector plate as that will disrupt the arc of smoke. - I would also add a thermometer to the cooking chamber, especially at grate level. - What about an expanded metal wall around the storage shelf? Then the wood splits wouldn't fall down. Overall, great job guys. Super cool to see a well thought out, heavy duty smoker.
Love it! You guys are freaking awesome. I commented on your last build about making the firebox floor flush with the door wall for easy ash removal and you guys nailed it!!! Perfect smoker
I wuz wondering wen y'all were gonna do another video, great build, love it, my dad and I jus finished building a pit also, keep them videos coming, 👍🏼👍🏼, oh yeah it's worth 3K.
Great looking smoker and very skilled welding. Looking to build my own. Did you calculate relationship of fire box volume to cook chamber volume and stack volume for airflow and draw or was it a gut feeling kind of thing. Hope mine looks and cooks as well as yours. Cheers
My son and I are talking about doing a DIY smoker with a 250 gallon tank he has. How many hours do you guys have in this project. Helps us plan out timelines.
This is a beautiful build but at 3k my opinion that a bit to much...workhorse 1975, Gator pits and Lone Star Grillz all have pits for less. Also speak from experience I would wear welding respirator mask when you removing all that rust from the pipes...that's not good for your lungs and overall health. New subscriber keep up the great work!
I think what you guys are doing is great and I wish my dad was still around to do projects with but I think $3k is steep for this. My basis for that is that somebody could get a Workhorse Pits 1975 for a little less than 3k with a pull out shelf. Not trashing this at all and if you sell it for $3k then I'm happy for you. Personally, I probably wouldn't pay it.
Even at 20" it seems small. Ever think of cutting it length wise so not only to take the spring tension out of it so the door will fit better but then to add like a 4" section of plate to make it 24" around!?!?
It’s perfect size for back yard smoking. We cooked on it and fit 2 briskets and 2 racks of ribs. But Definitely if we wanted bigger that would work great!!
how did that false bottom work out on heat retention ? ima build one in a few weeks I was quoted 7K for the one I wanted using 2' DIA pipe $ your price is very fair ... well I got a barn welders , crane cherry picker plasma cutters and a torch so why not LOL
how long did it take to cut out the smoker doors and how many cutting wheels did you go through? I'm think of makin a smoker myself soon and the pipes I can find are all 3/8 in thick and I don't think its realistic for me to get a torch or plasma cutter for one build.
@@fathersondiygarage3580 One last question, what brand of cut off wheel did you use? Don't really know which brand so I was plannin just to get the harbor frieght ones. Heard they work fine but others say dont use them

Beautiful craftsmanship. Couple of questions and a suggestion. I didn't see you cut the entry into the smoke stack pipe. Did that happen? The deflector plate at the firebox is going to create a hotspot right in the middle of your grate at the bottom. And have you seen the steam injection video from Smoke Trails BBQ? That one is a game changer. th-cam.com/video/gkGd1qdkXzw/w-d-xo.html

Looks great!! The only thing I would change is drill a hole for your temperature probe over time the door will cut the wire .
Yeah you are right!!! We noticed that when we started cooking
