Mind blown. But what’s even better than the smoker is the father and son bonding on the project. Great work guys!
That’s what it’s all about. We appreciate all the support!
Great job! Now I see why high-end smokers cost several thousand bucks! That’s a LOT of work!
You got that right! Hoping to do a first cook and walk through video so stay tuned!!!!!
@@fathersondiygarage3580 HOW MUCH YOU CHARGE TO BUILT 1 LIKE THAT
@@hova575 one like this probably around $3000. A Lot of time and material compared to our other builds!!!
@@fathersondiygarage3580 I've seen Smaller hand made grills go for double that. I thought this one would be pushing north of $10,000 🤷♂️
Nothing like father/son project. Good work!
That’s what it’s all about!
nice build, each smoker better than the previous one. killer background music!
Great build there is nothing better then doing a project with your son. Lasting memories.ntake care and stay safe
That’s what it’s all about! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Great looking build!
Thanks Buddy. We appreciate the support. We love what you're doing at Chuds BBQ and that was inspiration for this build!
That’s a beast of a smoker! Y’all did a great job on it. 👍🏻👍🏻
This is a beautiful smoker
Nice large firebox...love it!!
I love how ridiculously big it is. Kudos to you and your dad
we love it!! cooks amazing!
I love the newbie welds it gives this so much character. Good jod!
This was our first big project!
You and your son have an amazing skill set. Awesome build.
Wow, thank you! More builds are on the way!!!
Great build prob means alot for Father and son build together. Priceless
Sure thing Raul. I really enjoyed working with my son on this project and look forward to doing other projects together.
Outstanding work!!! Deyuuum. That fire box is outta this world. That's how the pros create such good bbq Nuff said.
Plenty of space for preheating your sticks or chunks in that box. I smoke in the Colorado mountains in winter. Tough to manage your fire with a small box. Thanks for sharing.
Deyuuum yoall went to town with that thing..... awesome job on it!!
Smoker looks great! Keep up the hard work!
Love the video!!!!
Thanks for sharing!!!
I’m in the middle of a build right now. Lost my mojo fir a while. But I’m back at it now.
You’ve helped encourage me to go back at it full force. Thanks!!!!
Glad we inspired you to get back at it!! Comments like these encourage us to get out there and keep making videos. Hope your project turns out great!!
@@fathersondiygarage3580 wish I
Could DM pics of it to ya when I’m done. I was stuck at the legs trying to figure out the right angle to cut the square tubing for the cooking chamber to fit right. But I figured it out. Was a hurdle that I had to jump over. And the fact that I’m working in a small apartment patio is even more frustrating. But it could be worse. I could have no space to work in. But I’m going to get a folding welding table and that’ll help with getting more space back there.
Nice work Brothers! Liked the Local 398 shirt too!! Keep up the great work! I'm out of Local 110!
Very nice guys! That's a beautiful smoker.👍👍
Great build guys. Enjoyed watching.
Appreciate it, more to come!
Cool build
Awesome work guys 💯👏
Awesome work guys!!!
Fantastic build, envious👍🏼🇺🇸
Glad you like it! Thank you for the support!!
Wow what a great job guys! Seriously amazing.
Thank you we appreciate it!
Music too..the fabrication is cool.
Great Job Guys
Great video.
Super cool!
Great job and dont forget to season that smoker with flakseed oil before using.
Yes sir already done! Give us a subscribe to see our cooking video that will be posted shortly
Huge firebox, personally id support it from the bottom a bit, maybe add a few gussets running from the legs
I was also concerned about this at first but in the video you can see I tested it out by sitting on it and it didn’t budge at all.
Need dimensions of tank for reference! Great work and awesome build
How many gallons is that tank?
Nice job
And you were stick welding 😁
The only thing I would have done differently is a stainless steel screen for your food cook surface. Well and maybe incorporated a rotisserie to do a whole pig 🐖 besides that great job
Appreciate it. A rotisserie would be badass!
Hey for beginners what welder should I buy and go with for my first time so inspiring!?
Great job! What are the dimensions of the tank?
Hank Hill would be proud, I'll tell you what!
This build is badazz & that stack sets it off; very nice job! Does the heat travel pretty evenly?
Yes it does. Compared to our regular size smoker that we had before this build it retains heat and shaves two hours off of cooking time. My favorite feature of the build is the smoke stack!!! Thank you for the support we are hoping to get more videos out soon!!
i dont know whats better, the smoker or the fucking music! rawk on!
Really like the pit but mixed feelings on the bolted on smoke stack and the sharp 90. However yall seem to be the experts so wtf do I know haha
The stack is actually one of our favorite features. The reason we went with the bolt on was to be able to have a tall stack but still be able to take it off and store in the garage.
@@fathersondiygarage3580 Pretty smart, just ones I previously seen I remember smoke always leaking out there and they always having issues with sealing. Great looking pit! Like I said yall are the experts lol
@@piratelute8934 we appreciate the support!!!
Did you add a smoker thermostat I didn’t see one and Beautiful Build really great job fellas
We still need to add one! Appreciate the support!
Great build but I have 2 questions...why is the door so small? Should it not be longer? Also the diameter is so huge...it should have at least 2 racks.
It was our first smoker build. Looking back we definitely would have done things different
Bad azz pit!!! 💯
That the firt offset You and you pop made? I like it how big is that fire hole ?
First smoker build! We just went for it! Tank is 185 gallons, fire box is 2ft by 2ft 1/4 inch steel plate
Adorei o projeto vou tentar fabricar uma no meu canal.🇧🇷✌️
Looks great. I'm making one from a similar tank. How big did you make your door opening.
Tabalho perfeito parabéns, assistindo seu video do Brasil 🇧🇷
Awesome
Awesome job. I've been looking at self builds myself. How many gallons is the tank?
185 gallons, get out there and build!
Great build, but where's your thermometer's?
We need to add one.
Nice smoker! Does the smoker really need the deflector plate inside the chamber? I’m asking because I just removed it from my smoker. The smoke/heat was going under the meats because of the chamber deflector plate. I now have better air flow going through the chamber.
Hi Ralph, Adding a deflector plate to our cheap offset smoker improved the temperature consistency across the cooking surface so we decided to add the deflector to this one. However, this is much larger and may not need the deflector. We'll be cooking on it for the first time this weekend and I'll have a better idea then. Thanks for watching. Steve
If the plate goes all the across chamber with a opening on the end and your stack is above the fire box that's an reverse flow smoker.
@@mrgoodtimes05 wasn’t talking about a reverse flow. I removed the reflector plate on fire box opening inside the chamber.
@@ralphr6650 ok I'm just curious, what's a reflector plate?
@@mrgoodtimes05 it’s welded right over the opening of the fire box inside the chamber. It pushes the heat/smoke downward as it exits the fire box and into the chamber…could be called a baffle plate
Great job guy's but the lid needs a counter weight 👌😎
What for? Keeps the lid tight? How would you add the weight?
What type of tank is that ?
I think I saw a UA shirt in this video, hello from 170! Great video how’s the smoker treating you guys?
Yes sir 398! The smoker is awesome, I do new construction but got the tank off a service job I was apart of. It’s Massive and cooks a mean brisket!
I'm using a 120 gal. tank with an old disposable helium tank as the smoke box. Mine isu upright and looks like an atom bomb
I’d love to see it are you posting it on TH-cam?
@@fathersondiygarage3580 yes i will soon, but I think I'll need to m make it sit horizontal first though. The fire box might be too small. While testing I can Barley maintain 200 degrees. Also mine is bolted together until I get access to a welder. I'll tag you when I do. Cheers. Subed
what grill sir sorry what hinges did you use for the main grill lid and what degrees is that tube where it would smoke greetings from Mexico
I always have a question about these diy smokers. People use different kinds of steel drums/tanks /containers, are these ones food safe? Or do they need to be food safe?
Usually smokers are built from propane, compressor, or water tanks. All which are food safe when properly cleaned. This tank happens to be an expansion tank for hot water and was lined with a rubber bladder that we took out. What we did was grind off the rust and lit a fire to burn out the tank. Last step , when the fire was going we rubbed the entire inside with cooking oil to coat it. Thanks for watching!!!
How thick was the material in that bladder tank Dad? I never thought about using one but that is just the size I want for my next build.
Loved the video man. What rods were you using with that old buzz box
thank you!! we used 6013!!
@@fathersondiygarage3580 thanks for replying. Keep up the good work
How you you think the smoker would run without the heat deflector? I see alot of people removing them.
Personally when building we thought the heat would concentrate to much in the beginning of the tank and not spread evenly. We were worried our meat closest to the firebox would cook drastically faster than the other side. Everything works well on our smoker and it cooks some good bbq so I think we made a good choice.
🔥🔥🔥
Hi it looks awesome, wondering how many cans of paint did you use?
Thank you! I believe we used 4 cans
Nice one...how much would you charge to build one like that for someone interested in one like that with a thicker firebox bottom
I would probably charge at least $3,000. Lot of labor, and material involved.
That’s not a bad price
@@Chiswag83 for a tank that size I think it would be fair, hoping to get into building them to sell one day.
Ok Thanks...
Lovely build!!! Could you guys contact me if no problem. I have a question on the build?
What would you like to know?
Could you build one for me. I'll pay shipping and all cost!

As a formal Cali resident, those wooden saw horses will cause cancer and birth defects according to prop. 65😆😆
Otherwise such a nice build. How did it work out? I love the fact that it’s a father and son build while using a stick welder!
One of the best builds we have done! Lot of work, but a lot of fun!
@@fathersondiygarage3580 I bet it was. I’m in the planning and drawing phase right now. Hopefully by end of July I’ll have everything I need. Then I can do it with my boy who’s about to be 12.
Good job. How many gallons isthat tank and how thick is it?
200 gallons and 3/16" thick
Nice! What size tank was this in Gallons???
185 gallons
What size tank is that?
Where do you buy a tank like that and what's the average price normally?
I got this tank from work. I’d recommend checking offer up or a scrap yard. These tanks generally get recycled.
Think about welding in a insulated false bottom inside the firebox. Will help with longevity of the firebox floor.
Edit. What kind of tank was that?
That is a great idea may have to add that as we do some upgrades. The tank is a commercial thermal expansion tank.
I line it with fire brick great insulation....
Hey guys, where did you end up sourcing your tank from, and did your supplier pre-purge it for you? I've been looking into doing a build like this, but I'm having trouble sourcing a tank.
The tank was a thermal expansion tank under no pressure so no purging was necessary. The tank we got for free as it was about to be thrown away.
How many gal my husband what's to build one like it
how many gallons is the tank?
185 gallons
HOW MANY GALLONS WAS THE TANK AND HOW THICK?
185 gallons and 3/16” thick
What size tank did you use?
185 gallon
Where can I purchase a tank like that thanks in advance
Scrap yard is cheaper than new
Where is your temperature gauge
Great build video guys!!
"BUT" it would have been nice if you could have walked us through the build step by step so we can learn!
Just saying 🤷♂️
That would have been awesome. With all the video we got it would have been at least a two hour movie!! Maybe the next smoker build we will do that !!
Yeah your right it would take several videos to do that and would be time consuming!
I hope one day when you do have the extra time you'll be able to do a more detailed on how to do instruction video.
You guy's should design your own Offser Smoker, you certainly have the talent and know how!
Anyway nice work and my kinda music!
Thanks for replying!👍
How many briskets can you cook in there at once?
Set up for 6 Briskets
How much could you sell something like that for?
We spent about about $1000 in material for the project and many days building it. With it being almost 200 gallons and customized, We probably would not let it go for less than $3000.
Dimensions of that tank?
The tank is approximately 30 inches diameter by 60 inches long.
I don’t know, maybe the smoke stack should be a little taller
This build was awesome until you painted it black. Man that looked sweet raw.
put in narration we can put on our own music in the background if we want
Check out our newer videos, we are slowly improving
Can you build me one?
Great job, get yourselves a paint gun.
Great idea. That was our first time using high heat resistant paint. Cans took a little longer but got the job done!!
@@fathersondiygarage3580 I'd pop for an oxy acetylene torch first, bending those hinges with mapp/propane looked like it took some patience.
Definitely on the list!
good job , but that shaking camera and the wacky music just became too much.
First video of the channel. We will get better I promise!
Part 2 cook up results
Coming next week!! Give us a subscribe!
Need some more upbeat music lol
Music makes it difficult to watch
Great Idea and work, bet you can roast a hole pig inside.....LOL....
Video quality is poor, too much hand movement.
Gotta stop watching, the camera bouncing is killing me.
Sorry boss, trying to improve on that. This was our first video ever!!! Next ones will be better!
Can't watch, that music ruined it.
Absolutely cant listen to that noise volume down 🤣😂🤣😂😂🤣
that Firebox just seems way too big.
