I believe that we all feel a strong pull inside of us to become a person of value, someone who makes a difference in people's lives. Danny Maude you have become such a regular part of my life for the past few years that I would TRULY be devastated if you stopped making videos. Thank you for providing quality content to those of us who cannot afford to do lessons with a PGA professional. I just felt compelled to tell you that I think you are an amazing coach and you make the best content on youtube with so much new content. You know what else, I bet that 99% of your followers feel this exact same way! Thank you for being you!!!!
Hi Danny, your last few lessons have really made a difference for me. Why? Because you’ve taken the basic elements of the swing and described them in a very understandable way that readily translates onto the practice range and course. Moreover, these latest lessons are congruent with all of your previous instructions. So helpful. Thank you and blessings.
You have already got me hitting straight shots with the drip version. I was at the range this am practicing all the irons. However will try the feet together and a little foot positioning a small amount of space apart. Tomorrow.
I'm usually a skeptic on golfing videos since there are so many possible answers for one or two issues. This one is incredible. It's basically a back to basics. So before I would hit maybe 150 to 170 yards with a vicious slice an absolutely horrible slice and 99 of 100 times I wouldn't be on the fairway or I'd lose balls constantly and add a drop and rehit to the stroke count. I dreaded hitting my driver. With this simple 12 minute video and working in my backyard back to basics really. Replicating the swing and balance lessons in this video I'm at 50 to 60% power in my swing and I'm probably at the 150 to 170 yards but they're straight! I keep this up and eventually build in my power while keeping my balance centered I should have no problem reaching the 250 range and staying straight. Best video I have ever watched!
While it sounds like you have very little natural ability if youre actually doing what you describe (in which case, good luck with this game!!), I total agree that this is a brilliant routine for most of us to follow, medium, high hadicappers included!
Try this today on the course, with a 3 quarter swing, it was amazing, I started to hit the driver straight and my irons, for the first time in a long time, I felt in control, thank you so much for this drill, will keep you updated on my progress cheers Danny 😊
Thx for reminding me about feet together practice. So useful. I realise it’s best sticking to you each week rather than checking out lots of other coaches which gets confusing. It’s like having a personal coach every week with back up notes if needed. Thx as always. You’re the tops.
I had forgotten how good this drill is. What I would add is for those practising to hit 5 balls normally and stick a marker down at the average of these FIRST. Then work progressively from slow and easy to progressively faster and progressively wider. Watching the ball get closer to the marker with shorter width and slower swings helps to reinforce that bad things in the swing are getting overcome. Nothing like having a target and then kicking its butt whilst learning - then hitting it sweeter and longer and straighter in progressive way. Thanks Danny, brilliant as usual!
Quick question, what exactly does this mean? "stick a marker down at the average of these FIRST". Stick a marker... What kind of marker? A Little Flag? A Pen? An actual magic marker? And place this "marker" at the average of where? At your feet position? Where you're striking the ball? Where the ball is ending up? You're confusing me mate... I need some further direction...
Tried this feet together drill this morning at range. Was seeing much better consistency with swings with all clubs. Best I have swung driver for ages. Thanks
My hat is off to Danny Maude for this tip. Irregardless of the camera angle, I followed the instruction and IMMEDIATELY improved both distance and accuracy! I’m 66 and my average drives were in the 254 range! Just incredible. I take my time to set up as instructed, take my normal swing and away it goes. I’m a 5.7 hcp and love golf! Thank you Pro!
Your teaching is so concise and clear. I have been watching your videos for about a month and my ball staking has greatly improved. I now understand why I hit a certain bad shot. And the fix for it. You are the first instructor ( in person or video) that has helped me to understand the right elbow position. I have added 20 yards to my driver because of your videos. Thanks
Such a simple, clear explanation of getting back to the basics of the golf swing. My high school golf coach would "re-start" myself and teammates with a similar drill on the range by having us hit every club in our bag with a quarter swing, half swing, three quarter swing, then full swing. Doing so quickly provided feedback as to what your top half, arms, and "tilt" were doing incorrectly. This drill makes all of that unnecessary, as it allows one to progress to full swings only when the balance is able to be maintained in the shorter swings. I'm playing tomorrow and will give this a try throughout the round. Thank you again Danny....and you are welcome for the follow. :)
Brilliant lesson Danny. I’ve used this drill in the past for tempo but never really thought about why it worked or how to use it to evaluate proper balance. So obvious once you explained it. Thanks for all you do for the golfing community!
Hi Danny My post is nothing to do with today’s video but a follow up to one a few weeks ago with your Leo and the towel drill leading to longer drives. Decided to try it out during my usual Wednesday game concentrating on high hands on the backswing and then whipping it down to the ball. I noticed three things: I was hitting it further, consistently outdriving my playing partners and on one occasion by 30 yards. One of my partners, who plays off 4, wondered out loud if I’d been bodybuilding! On one hole my drive measured 255 yards. Now, given the cold air temps and the very soft fairways, that’s not bad for someone nearing 69 and stands at 5’4”. Think what I could do in summer temps with the fairways firm. My target must be 280+? I was hitting the ball STRAIGHT! I believe with my previous ‘safe’ drives, I was getting ahead of the club maybe, leaving the clubhead behind me and therefore the face might be a bit open leading to a fade, a BIG fade or…..the gorse bushes!! I was actually hitting the ball down the left of the fairway this week probably because at address I was closing the clubface slightly to conteract the fade. So, the ball wasn’t going everywhere! The brain takes over and adjusts. I was just letting it go! The ball flight was much higher, with the ball in the air for longer. Again, if I’m not getting ahead of the club I feel I must be hitting up on the ball much more leading to a better ball flight?? I have read posts from your subscribers who have got so excited at doing this or that on the course after following your video tips. I can now understand how they feel! It is SO exhilarating! So, if any of your subscribers managed to read to the end of this post, please just give it a go, you’ll be amazed. Thanks Danny. Grahame
Thanx for that graham I can't get out yet but I am practicing the towel drill in the garden with hands high, I've wanted someone to endorse it around my own age and height thank you so much
Just 'let it go' Arthur! I was playing it too safe in trying to hit the ball up the middle. Now I only concentrate on generating that speed. And it works! Try it and have fun. Grahame @@arthurrytus7318
I tried this drill on the range today. And I was able to fix my driver in about 1- swing. One of the best drills I've practices. you can literally use this on the course.
Thank you Danny, This is something I use to get myself to slow down and focus...My coach taught me this over 25 years ago and it is one of the drills that has stuck with me. Nice to see that it has not gotten lost in todays technology movement.....
Probably the best video I've watch ! Started golfing in May 2024.had a good start (hitting 250 here and there) then went on a downslope after watching too many videos of long drivers and wanting to be like them. This vidéo right here brought me back to the basics.I hit 200+ with my feet close to each other and finish my range session ona couple 250yards shots. My last two weeks before that were horrendous, barely hitting 200 .thank you so much for this video Danny !
Danny first off I just want to say thank you! I'd given up on driver because I'm a HOOKER lol. I was exclusively using 3 wood off the tee and long irons. I played a scramble yesterday and was disgusted with myself. So I went down the youtube rabbit hole last night lol. I found this video and it just made so much sense to me. Combined with your other lesson on driving the ball it was just INSANE my ball striking off the tee. I only missed one fairway on my first attempt in went low left. Then after that BOOM!! Every F****** drive went 270+ either straight or with a baby draw! Omg I was jumping up and down on the tee box! My buddies were like wtf are you doing to hit like this! Guys I'm telling I did this drill for like 15 minutes before tee time. Then i would do it once for a practice swing. Then with Danny's video on ball placement ball of the left hill under your left armpit its just EFFORTLESS POWER!! DANNY THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Thank you so much for this Danny, the best drill I’ve ever done, took it in the back garden first without a ball, then the driving range where I had possibly my best ever range session. Acid test on the course today, played my best round for a couple of years. Thanks again mate
Danny - I watched this video yesterday before my first round of the year in Minnesota. I had been struggling with my driver on consistency and length. This video (along with the previous one on go slow to go fast) helped me shoot my first 73 (+2). Beating my personal best by THREE strokes. I was either in the fairway or just off. All my irons were struck great. I am looking forward to getting out of the 80s and into the 70s more this year thanks to your videos. Please keep them coming!!! Thank you!
Love these lessons and they definitely help. Something I get very confused with is the effortless not even trying swings going 250 yards. Been playing golf about 20 years and I'd say I've hit it over 250 less than 100 times and always in summer with wind helping etc. They just look like you're not even trying and yet it's obviously somehow generating speed most of us can't get near. Even with your legs together so presuming no real ground forces at work there. I'd be more than happy with 250 yards drives consistently and in play, I think for most amateur tees / golf courses it's more than enough. Basically I guess I'm jealous of those effortless 250 yard drives where you don't even have to try 😂
Is it possible that Danny and others have jacked up the launch monitors to produce higher speeds? I have played 56+ years and have run into just a handful of golfers who can carry a driver 300 yds or a seven iron 180-190 yds and invariably these have been big boys with terrific strength. @@tbone2859 I am suspicious.
OMG, this drill is AMAZING. I can see why P. Cowen said this was the fastest drill to sort your swing. I’ve been in a funk with my driver for quite a while, even working with a local instructor. 30 mins with this drill showed me exactly where my balance issues were in my swing and what correct weight shift to my left side felt like, especially with driver. It also showed my that wider stance is way better for me for stability and weight shift with driver. I had been thinking for months that my issue was related to poor flexibility so I had been using a narrow stance. This drill made me realize it wasn’t flexibility but stability and correct weight shift were my issues. The whole swing became more fluid and confident once I had the feel for staying balanced with the wider stance……ironic that it took a feet together drill to show me this. THANK YOU Danny for posting this and for your amazing instruction. FWIW, I did this with ball position on my left big toe when feet were together and then pretty much kept it their as I widened my stance. Made sense for me because I tee the ball lower than you do.
Danny, this is absolutely my all time favorite drill. I have used this drill for over 40 years and I can tell all of your subscribers that it works. I start off doing half swings to also check my club position. Then increase to a 3/4 swing and then to a full swing. Thanks for posting!!!!
@@randywolf4731 I’m not going to say this has changed my game just yet. But I never take a driver to the range. I’ve just hit several straight drives in excess of 190 yards!! This is a guy who hits a 6 iron off the tee, so I consider this to be a step in the right direction. Just need to build on it now 👍
This is in the top 5 best TH-cam golf tips for me, had to leave a comment. I found I would add way too much loft and spin to my driver that I was getting the same 240-50 carry as my 3 wood. I tried to super narrow stance, smooth swing approach and found it goes same distance but has a better lower flight and remarkably consistent in going straighter with a tighter dispersion. While I work on my driver - don't care how it looks on the course, this is 100% going to be how I will be driving it off the tee for the forseeable this coming season., I just can't get over how good this tip is - thank you Danny
Thanks Danny. Took it to the back yard and then to the course and it worked. This was perhaps the best tip I've ever hard. Thanks so much, you're the best.
this makes so much sense i’ve even thought about it myself and i’ve only been golfing for 3 months. never thought about all of the things to pay attention to though lol. explains why my wedges were so on point from the start. i’ve always stood like this with everything locked in hahaha
Danny! I wanted to thank you for this lesson. Went to the range today and I tried this drill. I couldn’t believe the results. I’m 62 years old and have been playing golf most of my adult life. Never before have I had consistent contact with the golf ball as I did today. I could feel the balance and even weight shifting from my right foot to the left foot. I’m so happy with the results. I even used this drill with every club in my bag with the same amazing results. Thanks again!!
That is incredible how far you get it with your feet together like that. If I can do that I won't bother widening my stance, fantastic. Thanks as always have a great weekend
I tried this routine for the first time today, having not played golf for some months due to illness. It really worked a treat with me consistently hitting driver as far as I normally do but without the glitches of me dipping down into the ball that is consistently my bad shot. I also tried it with the irons and, guess what? It works. More work needed but a wonderful drill. Thank you Danny.
I love how you teach. I feel like this is the only golf lesson I need. I wish you were local to me. I spend thousands every year at my Golftec and they are not bad but they are not you.
Loved lesson. Always struggle with driver, and i play alot. Took this to course yesterday had my best round in months. After drive i used it for every shot that day. Lot better contact lost hardly any distance. Will keep playing like this for now. Thanks danny
Hi Danny, I love your unpretentious and straightforward teaching style. You make it seem easy to improve the golf swing, and you're the only golf instructor I watch on TH-cam. Keep up the good work!
Omg just tried with a wedge and wow!!! It really works gonna practice it Monday before my round Tuesday the swing plane is just at the perfect arc and circle with this because you don’t need to focus on stance
This lesson really resonated with me because after I retired I took a job as starter as a course watching hundreds of golfers hit off the first tee and common denominator when they hit poorly was a loss of balance during the swing often starting during the takeaway with a less than ideal, too far inside club head path. The light bulb in the head then went off realizing I was doing the same thing WITHOUT REALIZING IT! Interested in the underlying psychology of things I thought about why I had difficulty feeling I was falling off balance and concluded it was because the process of staying in balance is so unconsciously reflexive-the body mass reacts to counter the force going in the ‘wrong’ (less than ideal) path without the conscious brain realizing it until its too late to fix. The paradox in a golf swing is that beginners tend to do with club in the takeaway-pronate lead hand pulling it too far inside the hands-is itself an uniformed reflexive solution to dealing with the exponentially increasing force stored in the club head mass as it swings back. The first time a student is shown the more ideal outside that hands takeaway what happens? They will be pulled off balance because their reflexive brains haven’t ever reacted to a pull from the club head in that direction before. What the feet together drill really teaches is how to ideally take the club back because failing that step staying in balance during the rest of the swing becomes increasingly difficult. I first came across the drill in a book by Hank Johnson called “Winning the Three Games of Golf: The Swing, The Stroke, The Score which focused on biomechanics in the swing using analogies. His similar balance drill involved swinging a old fashioned broom with the butt end stuck in the belly at address. The mass of the broom greatly exaggerated any loss of balance due to technique and having the butt end of the club pressing against belly ensured the takeaway was truly ‘one piece’ with hips, shoulders and hands forced to move together in the first 45° of the swing arc until the momentum acting on the head of the broom forced the wrists to cock and the butt end popped out of gut. What I realized from that action of extending wide to generate force - which will cause loss of balance - is that the action of cocking the wrists does a very critical thing in the backswing with regard to balance: it redirects the force vector in the club head mass up and forward which is why a WELL TRAINED golfer is able to stay in balance. An analogy is how a figure skater does a spin starting with arms extended wide at the start then pulling the mass of the arms into the body closer to the center of rotation and balance to spin faster. When a golfer learns to take the club head away from the ball ‘in one piece’ without any reflexive hand action to steer the club to the more balanced inside path in the takeaway it begins force the wrists to cock automatically at just the right time and place in 3D space relative to center of rotation and balance! The swing starts to feel automatically balanced as if swinging the club head in a groove! What I realized from all that analysis and experimentation is that the #1 fault in untrained beginners swings was not being CONSCIOUSLY aware of where the club head should be in 3D space relative to the feet and center of balance at the point the wrists should react to the force, cock and swing the mass in closer to the feet and redirect the force up making it possible to stay in balance. So I created a drill to teach them this similar to what the broom drill felt like. First I would have a golfer swing the club as they had been too far inside and hold it still at the point where it would force the wrists to cock. I’d then grab the club head and pull on it, always pulling them off their feet because their is no way to brace against force moving in the that direction. Next I would show them where in 3D space their club head should be relative to feet and center of balance when force causes wrists to cock giving their brains a CONSCIOUS swing way point and showing them all that is required to hit it is to set up properly at address and turn hip/shoulders/hands together (as if the butt end was stuck in the belly). Once they could repeatably swing the club head mass to that waypoint slowly I have them hold it extended just before the point the wrists cock automatically and pull on the club head in the direction of the takeaway force vector. What invariably happens the first time the club head is pulled when it is in the ideal waypoint in 3D space to cock the wrists is the golfer gets easily pulled off balance. Why? Their reflexive brain hasn’t ever encountered a force pull in that direction! But the brain adapts very quickly to solve balance problems so after repeating the tugging exercised 3-4 times the golfer learns to reflexively tension the correct muscles in legs and torso to resist the tug and stay in perfect balance. What is learned by that drill how to create a great deal of momentum in the body turn of the take away to generate a effortless well balanced backswing just by consciously breaking the habit of steering the club head mass with the hands and letting just the hip/shoulder turn and stable arm triangle guide the club head mass the ideal spot in 3D space relative to the center of rotation. The short cut in that process the instructor showing them where that ideal spot in 3D space is, which broom drill and this one with feet together also teach but by trial and error until the golfer realizes it ‘feels’ better.
this video helped me so much. ive watched so many before about hitting the driver and you made it so simple. i went to the range today and i was absolutely striping it right down the middle. thank you so much, you just made golf so much more fun for me
Thank you! This is a game changer. I was all over the place with my driver and I tried this an entire round of golf and it really worked! I’m usually a long hitter but wasn’t consistent off the tee. I played an entire round doing this and still drove the ball the same distance as the other guys. I moved my feet a little bit more apart as the round went on and I was down the middle of the fairway every time. I truly appreciate your videos. I shot my lowest round of golf doing this!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I came up with this myself 40 years ago, and I still do it because it works. This is the first time I have ever seen anyone recommend it. It improves your balance and ball striking, and as you demonstrate, you can actually hit the ball surprisingly far with your feet together. The one thing you do differently than I have ever done is to point your front foot forward. I just tried it. and that makes the balance easier, and improves the follow through. Well done.
This is absolutely insane! Tried it just today and I can’t believe how smooth and relaxed I was! It somehow promoted a nice swing plane, and even with my feet together I was driving them to my normal distance, just that it was straighter, and my impact was much more solid! Utterly impressed by this drill. Thankyou Danny so so so much! I really love golf now 😂
I've always hit a long iron or 3-hybrid off the tee on a longer par 4 or par 5 because of my inconsistency with the driver (even though my long irons and 3-hybrids weren't consistent either, lol). I've played bad golf for over fifteen years, and just recently started to play more consistently. After years of TH-cam videos and Instagram reels, I finally invested in lessons and dramatically improved my swing. However, my driver was still as inconsistent as ever. Just a few days before watching this video, my driver shots at the range were topped, sliced, or just completely missed. I would say my hit rate (this is simply making decent contact with the ball) was about 20%. And for the 20% of balls that made contact, they would average around 125 to 150 yards in no predictable direction (maybe I would get lucky and get 220 yards with a nasty slice). The driver was a mystery and I did not know how to solve it. I stumbled on this video late yesterday and watched it twice while reading hundreds of comments. Today at the range, literally for the first time ever in my fifteen years of playing golf, I was hitting 20 to 30 balls in a row... straight, with an average of 250 to 270 yards of total carry (there's a trackman at the range I go to). I literally cannot believe the experience I had tonight. I never comment on TH-cam videos, but wanted to share this so other golfers won't give up after less than stellar range sessions or after embarrassing rounds of golf. This video alone may or may not be a miracle for your particular swing... but with consistent work and practicing fundamentals, you can definitely get there.
Danny I took this lesson to the range today and hit a bucket of balls step by step. First w/feet together, slow controlled swings, then a little faster, then spread the feet out a little, just as recommended. What an improvement, especially with tempo and catching the center of the face! This might be the best driver tip I've seen, and I'm going to use it to warm-up before every round from now on.
When you began to spread out your feet and increase speed, did you still keep the ball on the outside of the left toe, or bring it inside your left heel?
My coach got me to do this to help with tempo. As it works, I built this into my pre-shot routine on the tee i.e. one practice swing feet togethet, then one with feet apart keeping the same feel then hit the ball.
Just tried your tip from this video. I was in a rush and barely made my tee time get on the first tee block. Do you tip three swings. Step in a hit a really nice gentle fade up middle of fairway. I repeated this tip before every club swing and it really worked! I normally score around 90 to 95. Argh. Today. Shot a 84! Awesome. Finally a TH-cam tip that actually works. Thanks!!!!
Danny I have adopted this drill across all my clubs especially the longer irons to the driver. Even in competition when I am wayward I hit a few shots with my feet almost together and it seems to reset me and gets my concentration back. This is gold. Thanks heaps. Won my comp today and I put it down to this.
This week’s lesson is an absolute golden example of Danny’s entire style: simple yet powerful. I’m playing my first round in 2 months on Monday so hoping to try this out at the range ahead of the round. Thanks as always, Danny!
Combined this logic with Ernest Jones classic 1937 Golf Book "Swing the Clubhead". Went to the range at my club here in Scottsdale AZ and stroked 80 balls for the first time using this drill. Only 2 hard slices, maybe 8 fades and the rest straight or nice draw using irons, fairways and driver. I wish I had seen a video like this many years ago. Can build on this and slowly widen my stance with control and consistency. Smooth takeaway, staying on plane, keeping the feet closer eliminates body movements (any sways) .... makes a big difference.
@@DanielMaude Was a good experience as a starter golf player (hcp 52 atm), but harder than I thought it would be. The balance keeping in the swing motion is especially a point of training now. I hurt my pols earlier last week after I changed my grip a little bit to avoid blisters on my hands 😅
Hey Danny. I watched this video at the weekend , I used this drill before each shot on Monday ie (feet together) and swing in balance. I had almost immediate results, so much so I had a gross 77. which was 9 over par. I play off 13.4. Brilliant thank you once again.
Love your teaching but one thing all teachers seem to have an issue with is the stated ball position. The camera always seems way off. In this one the ball appears to be inside the left foot but you mention it is supposed to be out side the left toe!! Is it my screen....
Great video. Makes it so simple and clear to follow. You don't rush it, you show all the inidivual steps, making it easy to follow and undestand...and, what I think is really important, is, that you also show what you shouldn't be doing when swinging (which we all do), as well as what you should, which makes it all so much easier/clearer to follow.
Was playing this morning so had a few warm up swings on the 1st, worked really well striking improved both off the tee and from the fairway. I will keep working on it as its simpler than any other solution to my "kill the legs" thought when I feel myself moving too much....now to rewatch the chipping lesson with Pete
I am a beginner and now realize how important balance is. I love the importance now more than ever. Doing this balance exercise has taught me how the body and hips are supposed to be used in the golf swing. Thank you
Thanks! This is great. I am 65 Korean who love to play golf. I have less problem for driver than iron. After this drill, my golf comes back like 40 years old time. Solid contact and distance. Really recommend to age golfers. Make your body comfortable to play.
Hi Danny, I sort of lost my swing a bit whilst the courses were closed here recently, this drill has been just amazing to get that feeling and tempo back and has really helped me reduce my pulled shots massively, thank you!
Have made so many swing changes in the past couple months and have went from a slice to a low hook with driver and 3w only. Going to try this on the range tomorrow, hoping it can help me eliminate all the wasted movement and overcompensating that got me to where I am now. Thanks Danny!
Danny. Danny. Danny. I’m a once-a-week golfer. I shoot 87-93 pretty much every week. I watched this video late last night while searching for driving tips because I’ve been driving terribly for a month now. Bottom line is I shot an 81 today and hit longer and straighter than I have all year. 🎉 Many thanks.
A fantastic drill and so simple. I will be using the golf simulator a bit alter and I will be trying it out. Danny is by far the best Golf instructor on youtube.
Danny, I am 10 handicap that has really been struggling with a consistent swing lately. After applying this feet together practice, a light bulb went off and my swing has vastly improved. I find if I take my practice swing with feet together and than hit the ball with a normal stance, the resulting swing is near perfect. Thanks for putting this video out there.
I watched this video this morning and I am now on the range. I tried this and have hit 6 consecutive drives down the middle at a distance of around 240. Not only does it help your swing plane but because your feet are so close together you really can’t over swing or else you would fall over. Great tip. First thing I thought of was this would be a smart thing to do off the first tee.
@@DanielMaude I've made some progress over the last couple days. Feeling a bit more comfortable with iron swings. Driver is a bit of a challenge. But we'll get there. Really enjoying all the content and live lessons have been great to watch 💪🏻👍🏻
I appreciate most of your tips and drills. This one in particular is my favorite. One thing about this video, and it may be the camera angle, but the ball position between your feet appears to be exactly the same between driver and irons. I would like to see some sort of more definitive lines on the mat to see that ball position on the little toe for driver and middle of feet on irons.
This is also a great drill for tempo. That’s why my coach introduced it, but the secondary benefits for me were what you shared in this video. This is how I warmup after my stretches. So good.
The 45* inclined plane circle that you are demonstrating in this video is something that I have been working on. Although I still lack the distance I am wanting, I do have the consistency in the strike most of the time! Well Done Danny! Always learning and validating from your videos!
Love this one! I constantly go from good swing to off balance so this is going to be a great way to get my body to learn to stay aligned through the swing. Thanks for another good drill.
The instant I saw you swing driver with feet together... exaggerating how you would notice wobble, tilt, head coming up, falling over... WOW! I don't hit anywhere near your head speed (79-89 mph me) I realized this has so much help to offer in one drill. I JUST CAME INSIDE.. By my second swing, slightly over more than a half backswing I nearly fell over!! 😅 I recorded myself for about 15 mins and it was obvious that I am bending my knees in a weird left to right motion as the club head come up during back swing, then right to left during downswing all off tempo, by the time my shoulders are on their way down fairway, I can see how much energy I'm wasting to try to get the clubhead back to it's position from address and thru, most of the time resulting in a massive slice! At 85 mph it's only carrying 155-160 yards! ONCE IN 10 OR 20 ILL have a clean strike and its pushes it 195, 215 yards.. NOW ive SLOWED DOWN to what feels like pitching speed... yet my strike is cleaner and it's going on to 175+ yards (not far for big stick) BUT ITS ON THE FAIRWAY!! I am going to keep using this drill!! TYVM DANNY!!!
nice video I'm new to golf like GREEN!! went to the driving range yesterday and I was under the impression its about power and not just going with a basic follow through swing... Great video
Long time lurker on your channel. Gonig to try this out today on the course! I hit my best yesterday of 97 but putting was letting me down on the temp greens. I always think far too much about my grip and swing pattern with driver but not really any other club. Recently fractured my left middle finger so can feel awkward with my left hand being the main grip. Please don't ever stop these videos!!
Great drill ! I bring it in my routine yesterday . Works very very well. It helps me also to get into the right tempo. Results in saint cloud golf course during a competition = 80 % fairways hit , 20 m longer than partners ! Amazing .
I started playing golf for the first time 2 months ago. The best I have ever done on a 9 hole course was 54. After I watched this video and practiced at the range 2 times I played another 9 holes this afternoon and got 44. Thanks so much for the video 💪
I used this drill before I started my round yesterday. 2 under my handicap. Will use it always now before a round of golf. Will see if I can improve more tomorrow Danny 😊 Thanks for your videos they are fantastic
Hi Danny, this Clip was the best trick you ever posted. I tried many of your drills but after trying it only 2 times on the range I stopped my slice with my driver after 14 years of slicing. I stay still quite narrow but even draw it now slightly. And it works as well for my 5 wood.
going to give this a try tomorrow on the course, Have had such inconsistency in my driver just seems such a easy way to get that arch shape back into my swing.
@@DanielMaude Danny what an improvement to my game today!! All my drives today bar 1 all on fairway & good distances, was averaging 240 yds, kept feet about club 1/2 distance & positioned as you recommended, I will continue to use this & week widen feet overtime! 🙏🙏
I forwarded this vid to my friend when it first came out a few months ago. He now keeps his feet together during his practice swing before every shot and he’s been hitting the ball much better. Thinking I should start following his lead.
I recently had my playing partner video my driver swing during our round. I was shocked at how much excess movement there was with my body and subsequently my swing path. I am absolutely going to start incorporating this drill into my practice sessions. Thanks again Danny!
simple tips are best. This one in particular: easy to implement and to check balance is under control. Then self-video to check that the head is not moving sideways. That's it: full package and repeatable at will (which is not bad to re-play now and then) Bringing this balance and effortless sensation to the golf course is (for me) key to consistency. MANY THANKS. Great content from THE online coach ;-)
Tried this today at the range and could not believe how far I was hitting them with my feet together. It gave me confidence to know I could hit the ball far and straight. Hit a couple with my feet together and then slowly widened my stance. Was so good. Kept going back to feet together to check myself. Also worked on keeping my front shoulder higher than my rear and both things combined was gold.
That’s so kind of you to say David. I really love coaching, thanks for taking the time to write, means a lot 🙏
Yes indeed. Danny speaks to the most simple of fundamentals of the swing and they all really, really help tremendously.

Thank you, I really appreciate that
Danny you’re the best on TH-cam. Such a smooth, effortless swing and you’re able to teach without over complicated drills or language. Thanks!
Really kind John, thank you
You have already got me hitting straight shots with the drip version. I was at the range this am practicing all the irons. However will try the feet together and a little foot positioning a small amount of space apart. Tomorrow.
Used this drill yesterday on the course and it worked immediately - straight and long. Ball contact was also excellent. Thank you Danny, as always!
You are very welcome Willie
@@DanielMaude Hello, teacher. Can I share your video on the homepage of my other video platforms?

@@RC_Trailblazers that’s wonderful to hear, thank you for taking the time to feedback
Brilliant well done Hamish!
Thx for reminding me about feet together practice. So useful. I realise it’s best sticking to you each week rather than checking out lots of other coaches which gets confusing. It’s like having a personal coach every week with back up notes if needed. Thx as always. You’re the tops.
Very kind appreciate the support!
Thank you! Appreciate the support and you taking the time to comment 👍
Thanks
Well done Graham!
Amazing to hear
Your teaching is so concise and clear. I have been watching your videos for about a month and my ball staking has greatly improved. I now understand why I hit a certain bad shot. And the fix for it. You are the first instructor ( in person or video) that has helped me to understand the right elbow position. I have added 20 yards to my driver because of your videos. Thanks
That’s wonderful well done
I've struggled to get my game back after a breakdown. Enter Danny, brilliant, easy to follow I'm now saving up for a lesson with the great man👍😊

Really appreciate the feedback 🙏
Brilliant lesson Danny. I’ve used this drill in the past for tempo but never really thought about why it worked or how to use it to evaluate proper balance. So obvious once you explained it. Thanks for all you do for the golfing community!
Thank you!
Hi Danny
My post is nothing to do with today’s video but a follow up to one a few weeks ago with your Leo and the towel drill leading to longer drives. Decided to try it out during my usual Wednesday game concentrating on high hands on the backswing and then whipping it down to the ball. I noticed three things:
I was hitting it further, consistently outdriving my playing partners and on one occasion by 30 yards.

Thanx for that graham I can't get out yet but I am practicing the towel drill in the garden with hands high,
I've wanted someone to endorse it around my own age and height thank you so much
Just 'let it go' Arthur! I was playing it too safe in trying to hit the ball up the middle. Now I only concentrate on generating that speed. And it works! Try it and have fun. Grahame @@arthurrytus7318
I gave it a go and I still can't carry the ball over 200.
Can someone guide me on how to find the towel drill video as I have failed so far…

Go back a week or 2 on dannys vids to the one that mentions short hitter I think it's that I mate
I tried this drill on the range today. And I was able to fix my driver in about 1- swing. One of the best drills I've practices. you can literally use this on the course.
Wonderful to hear
Thank you Danny, This is something I use to get myself to slow down and focus...My coach taught me this over 25 years ago and it is one of the drills that has stuck with me. Nice to see that it has not gotten lost in todays technology movement.....
I really like it
Probably the best video I've watch !
@bradschwartz9084 amazing! Well done 👏 Thank you so much for watching 🙏🏻
Thank you so much for this Danny, the best drill I’ve ever done, took it in the back garden first without a ball, then the driving range where I had possibly my best ever range session.
Acid test on the course today, played my best round for a couple of years.
Thanks again mate

I really can’t believe how simple and easy this drill looks. I can’t wait to give it a try.
You can do it!
Thank you!
Well done Phil happy to help and plenty more videos to come 😁
Love these lessons and they definitely help.
I was thinking the same thing. I need the wind and the cart path to get over 250 lol😊
I need to bounce down a hill to break 225 😂
The #1 golf training tip I have rcvd!!! I took 5 strokes off of my game yesterday. Thanks Danny for all your videos...
Thank you Desnel 😁
A Saturday without your videos is a given away Saturday. Perfect to realise again!!

@user-wh7py7w3e that’s amazing. Well done 👏 Thank you so much for your comment 🙏🏻
Danny, this is absolutely my all time favorite drill. I have used this drill for over 40 years and I can tell all of your subscribers that it works. I start off doing half swings to also check my club position. Then increase to a 3/4 swing and then to a full swing. Thanks for posting!!!!
Love it Randy, thanks for sharing
Randy, does this work with irons too? Before I mess up what little ability I have 🤣🤣
30 seconds later, Danny reveals all 👌
Yes it will also work with your irons! This is a great drill for many aspects of your game.
Thanks Phil appreciate you taking the time to leave the support 😁
Thanks Danny. Took it to the back yard and then to the course and it worked. This was perhaps the best tip I've ever hard. Thanks so much, you're the best.
Thank you Rob!
this makes so much sense i’ve even thought about it myself and i’ve only been golfing for 3 months. never thought about all of the things to pay attention to though lol. explains why my wedges were so on point from the start. i’ve always stood like this with everything locked in hahaha
Thank you James, appreciate the support 😁
That is incredible how far you get it with your feet together like that. If I can do that I won't bother widening my stance, fantastic. Thanks as always have a great weekend
It’s such a simple way Julian to start improving the efficiency of your body action.
You can do it
Loved lesson.
Thanks for the support Martty appreciate you taking the time to comment 😁
😅
Omg just tried with a wedge and wow!!! It really works gonna practice it Monday before my round Tuesday the swing plane is just at the perfect arc and circle with this because you don’t need to focus on stance
Absolutely 👍
The short cut in that process the instructor showing them where that ideal spot in 3D space is, which broom drill and this one with feet together also teach but by trial and error until the golfer realizes it ‘feels’ better.
this video helped me so much. ive watched so many before about hitting the driver and you made it so simple. i went to the range today and i was absolutely striping it right down the middle. thank you so much, you just made golf so much more fun for me
Great drill, great video. Your online coaching and golf swing explanations are some of the best out there. Thank-you Danny!
That’s really kind Mark, thank you for taking the time to feedback
@anibalmendez866 you are most welcome. Well done that’s great 👏
I came up with this myself 40 years ago, and I still do it because it works. Well done.
Same for me! Have been doing this myself 😊
That’s wonderful to hear Joe, thanks so much for taking the time to feedback
Danny I took this lesson to the range today and hit a bucket of balls step by step. First w/feet together, slow controlled swings, then a little faster, then spread the feet out a little, just as recommended. What an improvement, especially with tempo and catching the center of the face! This might be the best driver tip I've seen, and I'm going to use it to warm-up before every round from now on.
@BradChambers-km7ne that’s fantastic! Well done. Thank you so much for watching 🙏🏻
When you began to spread out your feet and increase speed, did you still keep the ball on the outside of the left toe, or bring it inside your left heel?
I would never share this or any of your other videos...I want to win against them!!! Ha! Your teachings are simple and to the point. Thanks.
Thanks for the support JP
I like your teaching, easy and to the point 🫢✅
My coach got me to do this to help with tempo. As it works, I built this into my pre-shot routine on the tee i.e. one practice swing feet togethet, then one with feet apart keeping the same feel then hit the ball.
Love that Peter, thanks for sharing
Just tried your tip from this video. I was in a rush and barely made my tee time get on the first tee block. Do you tip three swings. Step in a hit a really nice gentle fade up middle of fairway. I repeated this tip before every club swing and it really worked! I normally score around 90 to 95. Argh. Today. Shot a 84! Awesome. Finally a TH-cam tip that actually works. Thanks!!!!

Love this. I have been struggling with driver lately. This is now my go to practice and warmup drill. Thank you Danny.
You are very welcome Jim
Danny I have adopted this drill across all my clubs especially the longer irons to the driver. Even in competition when I am wayward I hit a few shots with my feet almost together and it seems to reset me and gets my concentration back. This is gold. Thanks heaps. Won my comp today and I put it down to this.

That’s really kind thank you 🙏
Combined this logic with Ernest Jones classic 1937 Golf Book "Swing the Clubhead".
Wow I want to test that swing immediately, but the golf course (driving range) is closed rigth now!
Look forward to hearing how you get on
@@DanielMaude Was a good experience as a starter golf player (hcp 52 atm), but harder than I thought it would be.
Brilliant Dave well done!
Love your teaching but one thing all teachers seem to have an issue with is the stated ball position. The camera always seems way off. In this one the ball appears to be inside the left foot but you mention it is supposed to be out side the left toe!! Is it my screen....
I agree, noticed this in the edit and was disappointed in myself that I hadn’t set this up correctly
So - is it supposed to be on the inside or outside of the left foot?@@DanielMaude
@@iggy0978go with what he says not with the mistake he made in setting up the camera
Thanks for clarifying this.
It seems to cause me to hit it fat, or thin it. But, correct ball position, great contact and ball flight.
Thank you, happy to help 👍
Crazy when I rip the ball I average a 240 carry. You’re getting 250 with minimal effort 😫
Same👊
@turbomouse269 keep practicing. Don’t give up. Thank you for watching 🙏🏻
@ChipGreen-h6r thank you for watching. Keep practicing and enjoy 🙏🏻
@@DanielMaude 👊
Was playing this morning so had a few warm up swings on the 1st, worked really well striking improved both off the tee and from the fairway. I will keep working on it as its simpler than any other solution to my "kill the legs" thought when I feel myself moving too much....now to rewatch the chipping lesson with Pete
Absolutely, swing in balance 👍
Danny! I have been watching you for a long time. I love your videos. But, please, please do not grow a beard!
It’s gone 😁👍
@@DanielMaudeLol....beard looks fine, grow one if you like it.
Seems exactly what I need. I am going to go practice this starting tomorrow. I lack consistency and this seems the way to get there. THANK YOU!!
Pleasure Verinder, all the best
Bloody marvellous!! So simple, yet so effective. This will end up being one of my "go to's" Thanks Danny.
Hi Danny, I sort of lost my swing a bit whilst the courses were closed here recently, this drill has been just amazing to get that feeling and tempo back and has really helped me reduce my pulled shots massively, thank you!
Well done Rodger 😁
Have made so many swing changes in the past couple months and have went from a slice to a low hook with driver and 3w only. Going to try this on the range tomorrow, hoping it can help me eliminate all the wasted movement and overcompensating that got me to where I am now. Thanks Danny!
Hope the video helps you Samroy!
Excellent exercise, I tried it and amazing result, from now on I will do this before every shot
Danny. Danny.
@ucoll83 that’s great well done. Keep it up & enjoy practicing 👍🏻
Brilliant to hear Gregory well done
I watched this video this morning and I am now on the range. I tried this and have hit 6 consecutive drives down the middle at a distance of around 240. Not only does it help your swing plane but because your feet are so close together you really can’t over swing or else you would fall over.
Great tip.
First thing I thought of was this would be a smart thing to do off the first tee.
I'm a BRAND NEW golfer, turning 32 later this year. this video really made alot of sense. cant wait to go to the range in the morning
Love to hear how you get on Jared
So good.
Thank you Daniel!
The 45* inclined plane circle that you are demonstrating in this video is something that I have been working on. Although I still lack the distance I am wanting, I do have the consistency in the strike most of the time! Well Done Danny! Always learning and validating from your videos!
Thanks for sharing John
Love this one! I constantly go from good swing to off balance so this is going to be a great way to get my body to learn to stay aligned through the swing. Thanks for another good drill.
warm up this way on the range. Couldn't start without this drill. Works great for all clubs. Thanks, Danny
Thank you Mitchell!
The best channel for golf on youtube.
Thanks
Very kind thank you 😁
This lesson makes much sense to me. I am going to try on the driving range next week.
Have fun
The instant I saw you swing driver with feet together... exaggerating how you would notice wobble, tilt, head coming up, falling over... WOW!
I don't hit anywhere near your head speed (79-89 mph me) I realized this has so much help to offer in one drill. I JUST CAME INSIDE..
By my second swing, slightly over more than a half backswing I nearly fell over!! 😅
I recorded myself for about 15 mins and it was obvious that I am bending my knees in a weird left to right motion as the club head come up during back swing, then right to left during downswing all off tempo, by the time my shoulders are on their way down fairway, I can see how much energy I'm wasting to try to get the clubhead back to it's position from address and thru, most of the time resulting in a massive slice!
Brilliant well done! Thank you for taking the time to comment 😁
nice video I'm new to golf like GREEN!! went to the driving range yesterday and I was under the impression its about power and not just going with a basic follow through swing... Great video
Danny is my go to guy every time. Love his presentation style and delivery. The BEST
Thanks so much for the support
I tried this at the range today, it was a revelation!!! Simple! Thanks Danny.
Thank you Paul! Glad it helped 😁
Thank you appreciate the support 😁
Great drill ! I bring it in my routine yesterday . Works very very well. It helps me also to get into the right tempo. Results in saint cloud golf course during a competition = 80 % fairways hit , 20 m longer than partners ! Amazing .
Obviously in my routine i did not hit a ball 😂
I started playing golf for the first time 2 months ago. The best I have ever done on a 9 hole course was 54. After I watched this video and practiced at the range 2 times I played another 9 holes this afternoon and got 44. Thanks so much for the video 💪
@ChrisPlaysCoC that’s amazing. Well done 👏
Happy to help Kaif!
thank you for your time in showing this technical key drill to make a good accurate straight golf swing
@lifehealth489 you are very welcome. Thank you for watching 🙏🏻
I appreciate the simplicity of your training, and the swing thoughts needed.
Cheers,
-Jon
Thank you Jon!
Brilliant !
I tried this tip and it immediately helped the consistency of my low point
Thank you! 🙏🏻
Fantastic! Well done Dave
going to give this a try tomorrow on the course, Have had such inconsistency in my driver just seems such a easy way to get that arch shape back into my swing.
Love to hear how you get on Matt
@@DanielMaude Danny what an improvement to my game today!! All my drives today bar 1 all on fairway & good distances, was averaging 240 yds, kept feet about club 1/2 distance & positioned as you recommended, I will continue to use this & week widen feet overtime! 🙏🙏
Great training tip, thanks.
@ricblic901 thank you. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Thanks Danny. I will be trying this out tomorrow on the range. Love your videos.
Super kind Jeff
I forwarded this vid to my friend when it first came out a few months ago. He now keeps his feet together during his practice swing before every shot and he’s been hitting the ball much better. Thinking I should start following his lead.
@ra1der5 that’s great. Enjoy practicing. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
I recently had my playing partner video my driver swing during our round. I was shocked at how much excess movement there was with my body and subsequently my swing path. I am absolutely going to start incorporating this drill into my practice sessions. Thanks again Danny!
Thank you!
simple tips are best.
@Ptitsuisse356 thank you for watching. Really pleased you enjoyed my video. It’s great to hear I’m helping you 🙏🏻
Tried this today at the range and could not believe how far I was hitting them with my feet together. It gave me confidence to know I could hit the ball far and straight. Hit a couple with my feet together and then slowly widened my stance. Was so good. Kept going back to feet together to check myself. Also worked on keeping my front shoulder higher than my rear and both things combined was gold.
@DuesGibGolfandLife that’s amazing. Well done 👏 Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
